THE U.S. COAST GUARD AND ITS ACADEMY The Coast Guard is the United States’ oldest continuous seagoing military service, founded in 1790 by Alexander Hamilton. In wartime, the Coast Guard functions as a specialized part of the Navy, in peacetime, it performs essential humanitarian missions vital to the safety of lives at sea and the environment. Under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard establishes and coordinates search and rescue operations by ships and planes, maintains advanced electronic and other aids to navigation around the globe, operates ice-breakers for polar expeditions and keeping domestic waterways open, enforces marine laws and Merchant Marine safety, and maintains military readiness to fulfill its naval wartime commitment. What is known today as the Coast Guard Academy began in 1876 as the Revenue Cutter School of Instruction. The original class of nine Cadets began its training on the Schooner DOBBIN, which operated out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. In 1878, the 106-foot barque CHASE replaced the DOBBIN as the Cadet-training vessel. It wasn’t until 1900 that the CHASE found a permanent homeport at Arundel Cove, Maryland, where classroom instruction was added to shipboard training. After nearly 30 years of service, the CHASE was retired in 1907 and replaced by the cutter ITASCA. In 1910 the Academy moved to Fort Trumbull, an Army coastal defense installation in New London. Like other colleges, the Academy strives to make each graduate a well-informed, contributing member of society, fully prepared to accept life’s responsibilities. But that’s just the beginning. Each Academy graduate must be a qualified officer, capable of leadership. For this reason, the program at the Academy is more rigorous and more demanding than non-military colleges to meet the professional needs of the Coast Guard. The educational philosophy of the Academy has three basic objectives: to provide by precept and example an environment which encourages a high

sense of honor, loyalty, and obedience, to provide a sound undergraduate education in a field of interest to the Coast Guard; and to provide training which enables duties as junior officers aboard ship. With these three principles serving as guidelines, the Academy staff has evolved the present curriculum, which leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as Ensign in the United States Coast Guard. The curriculum is constantly being reviewed and updated to stay abreast of the modern trends in education and the needs of the Coast Guard. Athletic competition is a part of every Cadet’s life at the Academy. Physical strength, endurance, agility, and competitive spirit are considered just as important as academic study and military training for future Coast Guard officers. In fact, every Cadet must play on an intercollegiate or on an intramural team, depending on ability and preference. The smallest of the four military academies (current enrollment is approximately 1,000), the Academy fields varsity teams in twenty-three sports. Men’s sports are baseball, basketball, crew, cross country. football, soccer, swimming, tennis, indoor track, outdoor track, and wrestling. Women’s teams include basketball, crew, cross country, indoor track, outdoor track, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball. Pistol, rifle, and sailing are co-ed sports. Admission to the Academy is open to U.S. citizens of good, moral character who are at least seventeen years of age but not twenty-two years of age, and who are unmarried. Prospective cadets should be good students, physically fit, and medically qualified. Interested high school juniors should initiate and application at the end of their junior year or as soon thereafter as possible. The deadline for applications is February 1st of every year before attending. Admission to the Academy is based solely on nationwide competition, and not by Congressional appointment. Dear Cadets, Alumni and Coast Guard Football Fans, I am thrilled to welcome you to another wonderful season of Coast Guard Academy football; something I very much look forward to every year. Coach George, his dedicated coaching staff and the cadets are poised to start strong this year in our season opener on September 1st at Anna Maria. This followed by winning back the Secretaries’ Cup here at home on September 10th, against our friendly rival Merchant Marine Academy. Go Bears…Beat KP! This season marks our last season in the New England Football Conference (NEFC), as the football program will become a part of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in the fall of 2017. Beyond football, last year our entire Academy athletic program experienced great success, as we once again won the Superintendent’s Trophy in our multi-sport headto-head competition with the Mariners. Of special note, our Women’s Sailing Team won the 2016 Sperry Women’s National Championship, with 2/C Nikole Barnes being named the Quantum Women’s Sailor of the Year. This was the first national title in program history. I hope you will again join me in the stands this season and throughout the year, cheering on our Bears as they continue to achieve athletic excellence each and every day. DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS TIM FITZPATRICK Tim Fitzpatrick enters his sixth year as Director of Athletics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and on his watch the USCGA’s athletic program has seen growth in several key areas. In addition to securing a comprehensive, five-year shoe and apparel agreement with adidas America for the academy’s 21 NCAA sports, has overseen a rebranding initiative that has resulted in new logos and marks and created an athletic booster organization (the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Bear Club). Under Fitzpatrick’s guidance, the department produced its first-ever women’s professional development seminar (the Women’s LeadHERship Symposium) for female USCGA athletic staff members as well as attendees from colleges and universities throughout New England, and has launched an external program for sale of corporate sponsorships and partnerships. Fitzpatrick was the Director of Athletics at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for two years prior to his arrival at USCGA, after spending the previous four years as the Deputy Athletic Director at Indiana University. At Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Fitzpatrick secured major gifts for construction of a new outdoor tennis center, as well as renovation of the university’s baseball and softball stadiums. He additionally served on the NCAA’s Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee while in south Texas, and executed a strategic plan which increased the department’s corporate sponsorship revenue by nearly 40%. While at Indiana, he was responsible for internal administration of the department, oversaw capital construction and facilities management, and had oversight of the football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs. Additionally, Fitzpatrick managed IU’s external units, including marketing, ticket operations, licensing, merchandising, website, and publications. Additionally, he negotiated a 6-year, $21,000,000 shoe and apparel agreement with adidas America and administered the Hoosiers’ multimedia partnerships with Learfield Sports and the Big Ten Network. During his tenure, Indiana realized a ticket sales revenue increase of 15-percent over annual budgeted projections.

Fitzpatrick came to IU after spending the previous five years as COO and associate athletics director for external operations at the U.S. Military Academy. Fitzpatrick directed a fundraising effort that saw Army’s “A Club” donor base grow from 750 to 6,700 and annual giving grow from $500,000 to $1.8 million. He also cultivated the Army Sports Network from two radio stations to 18, including 50,000-watt ESPN 1050 in New York City. During his tenure at West Point, corporate sponsorship revenue jumped from $250,000 to $920,000 annually. He arrived at West Point from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where he served as the associate athletics director for external affairs and executive director of the athletic foundation. Fitzpatrick’s work at Charlotte resulted in a 26-percent increase in annual gifts and a 39-percent increase in planned gifts. Prior to Army and Charlotte, Fitzpatrick served in a similar role at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to serving as the men’s basketball sport administrator, he directed a staff that generated a school record $1.4 million in sponsorship revenue and a $125,000 increase in annual giving. Fitzpatrick was a senior associate athletics director at the University of North Texas from May 1994 to June 1996. He was instrumental in UNT’s transition from NCAA Division I-AA football to the Big West Conference, and during the 1994 football season, North Texas was one of three programs nationally to have every football game televised in its home market. This local television package generated more than $700,000 in corporate sponsorship revenue. He gained considerable experience as Assistant Commissioner of the Southwest Conference from 1992-94. Fitzpatrick negotiated a $2.25 million, three-year men’s basketball tournament title sponsorship with the Dr. Pepper Company, and he also oversaw the league’s national and local television syndication efforts. Fitzpatrick began his athletic administration career as the assistant marketing director at Army before moving on to Virginia Commonwealth as the director of marketing and Ticket Sales (1984-87) and Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Public Relations from 1987-92. A 1981 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College with a bachelor’s degree in English, Fitzpatrick earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1982.

HEAD COACH BILL GEORGE Ithaca enjoyed tremendous success during George’s nine seasons as the Bombers made six trips to the postseason play. They earned an NCAA Playoff berth four times (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994) and beat Dayton 34-20 to win the Division III National Championship in 1991. The Bombers also made it to the National Semifinals in 1994. Ithaca also made two ECAC Playoff appearances in George’s nine years and won both times. The Bombers won the Northeast Championship Game in 1996 and won the Northwest Championship Game with a 40-6 win over Hartwick in 1998, his final season. Prior to Ithaca, George was an assistant coach at the United States Military Academy Prep School (USMAPS) for three seasons (1987-89). The 1980 graduate of Ithaca College, began his coaching career in 1982 as an assistant coach at Ithaca before moving on to Princeton in 1984. George was then a graduate assistant at Ohio State for two seasons (1985 and 1986). During his playing days at Ithaca, George was a four-year starter (1976-1979) at center for legendary coach Jim Butterfield. George was an All-American and co-captain of the 1979 team which won the National Championship during his senior year. He was also a two-time qualifier for the National Championships as a member of the wrestling team. Bill and his wife Nancy and their six-year old daughter Lila reside in Salem.

Bill George, who has more wins (57) than any football coach in Coast Guard history, begins his 18th season as head coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy. George was named the 15th head football coach at the Coast Guard Academy on April 8, 1999 and set the program record for most wins as a head coach in 2013. As well as his duties as head coach, we also coaches the Bears offensive line. George was named New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division Coach of the Year in 2007 as he led the Bears to their second consecutive NEFC Bogan Division championship as the team was a perfect 7-0 in division play for the second straight season. The team lost in the NEFC Championship Game for the second straight season and finished the season 8-2. In 2006, the Bears tied a school-record with eight straight wins, finished the regular season 8-1 and earned a spot in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl, the school’s first postseason bid since 1997 and finished 8-3 overall. Prior to arriving at Coast Guard, George, spent nine years (1990-1998) as an assistant coach at Ithaca College where he assisted head coach Mike Welch in running the offense. Over the nine years, he worked with the offensive line, linebackers as well as serving as head junior varsity coach from 1990-94.

Dana begins his 17th season as a member of the Bears coaching staff. Fleischmann serves as the Co-Defensive Coordinator and coaches the defensive backs. He was an assistant coach at Maine Maritime prior to arriving at the Academy. He worked with the running backs and served as Recruiting Coordinator and Academic Counselor. The 1997 graduate of the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota was a two-year letter winner as a punter and a All-Academic selection in the MIAC. Dana earned a Masters Degree in Athletic Administration and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State in 1999. Dana, his wife Corinna and their daughters Josslyn (6) and Jayna (2) reside in Ledyard.

Ray begins his 18th season as a member of the Bears coaching staff. He is the Offensive Coordinator and coaches the quarter-

backs LaForte spent five seasons as the Defensive Coordinator at Ithaca, sharing an office with current Coast Guard head coach Bill George. While at Ithaca, LaForte coached three All-America selections and the Bombers made a trip to the 1994 NCAA Semifinals and won two ECAC Championships. LaForte was also an assistant lacrosse coach at Ithaca for five seasons and is the menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lacrosse head coach here at Coast Guard. Prior to coaching at Ithaca, LaForte was a graduate assistant at East Carolina from 1991-1993. Ray, his wife Michelle and children Michael (17), Mason (14) and Madison (10) reside in Waterford.

Defensive Line Jay begins his 24th season on the Bears staff. The New London native will coach the defensive line. Driscoll played at New London High and spent 11 years coaching high school football at Waterford, East Catholic and Norwich Free Academy. A defensive end at New London, Jay continued his playing career at the University of Connecticut where he played safety for the Huskies. Jay, an English teacher at Norwich Free Academy and his wife Sandra reside in Norwich with their eightyear old twins Aaron and Amelia. He also has a daughter Julia.

C.C. begins his 18th season as a member of the Bears coaching staff. Grant, a 1992 graduate of Cortland State, spent six seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the last two as Offensive Coordinator. During his playing days, Grant was an All-ECAC fullback during the 1990 season as he led the Red Dragons in rushing. Grant, who is also the head baseball coach at Coast Guard, earned a Masters in Physical Education from Cortland State in 1994. C.C. and his wife Susan have two daughters Hannah (8) and Grace (4), they reside in Waterford.

Offensive Assistant Don begins his 18th season as a member of the Bears coaching staff. Miller, who is the all-time winningest coach at Trinity, owns one of the top winning percentages in New England and Division III as he had a 174-77-5 record for winning percentage of .693 from 1967-â&#x20AC;&#x2122;98. Don was named New England Small College Coach of the Year five times (1970, 1974, 1978, 1980 and 1993). Miller compiled a 31-2 record from 1955-58 as head coach at Newark (Del.) High School. Before arriving at Trinity, Miller served as Offensive Coordinator at Amherst from 1959-64.

Chris is in his second season as a part of the Bears coaching staff. Strand is a 2013 graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in

Computer Science. He played four years at Ithaca after playing his high school football at nearby NFA. Strand spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Bacon Academy, he served as the lineman coach in 2013 and the defensive coordinator last season as the team finished 6-5 overall, just the second winning season in program history as the team set 11 records.

2016 SEASON PREVIEW Coast Guard will be led by record setting senior quarterback co-captain Derek Victory, who led the Bears 9 to aSEASON 4-2 start as the team won three PREVIEW straight games for the first time in eight years last season, before an injury cost him the rest of the season and the Bears finished 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the New England Football Conference.

Victory, who as a sophomore threw 21 interceptions, worked feverishly last offseason to cut down on mistakes and last year he threw just two interceptions (both vs. Merchant Marine in week two) while throwing for 1,119 yards and six touchdowns. He ended the season with 149 attempts without an interception.

Victory is one of five starters back on offense, three of those are offensive linemen in junior right tackle Cory Tomasetti along with senior center J.D. Dunaway and senior left tackle Jordan Hart.

“Derek did a fantastic job last season of cutting down on turnovers and that is a credit to him maturing on the football field. Senior wide receiver Kyle Jackson, who had 25 receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns last season is only other returning starter on offense. Victory is already the Academy’s all-time leader with 508 completions, 915 attempts, 4,866 passing yards and 5,067 yards of total offense. He also owns the single-season school record with 220 passes completed and 409 passes attempted in 2014.

Junior Adam Davis (50 of 101, 457 yards, 3 TD, 4 INT), who started the final three games of the year last season, and sophomore Ethan Goldcamp (13 of 26, 69 yards) will battle for the backup quarterback spot.

There a number of guys who will fight for the two remaining starting spots on the Bears offensive line this season to protect Victory. Junior Camden Cecchini (50 carries, 100 yards and two touchdowns) along with sophomores Colin Cashin and Jeff Porter will all compete for the starting running back spot with all three expected to log carries.

2016 SEASON PREVIEW Junior tight end Cody Bain, who had 25 receptions for 352 yards and two touchdowns last season returns. Sophomore Jacob Pawlina is expected to start at the other wide receiver spot. Coast Guard will return just four players on defense as the Bears lost plenty of quality veteran players to graduation.

Sophomore Cole Austin will take over the place kicking and punting duties replacing AllAmerican punter Tyler Henning, who also tied the Academy record with 28 field goals in his career.

“We lost some very talented and experienced defensive players last season at both linebacker and defensive back,” said George. “So our biggest question going into the season is who is going to step up and fill those positions.” Seniors James Walsh and Brendan McNeil, who each had 35 tackles last season are returning starters and will anchor the defensive line along with classmates Logan Mars (29 tackles) and cocaptain Nick Lodovici (35 tackles).

and sophomores Jake Behne and Luke Wilson will all compete for time in the linebacker corp. Junior cornerback Will Daniels (38 tackles, 1 INT) is the only returning player in the Bears secondary. Juniors Oliver Kremer, Matt O’Donnell and Ryan Robertson are among the returners that will compete for the starting secondary spots.

“I’m looking forward to Cole picking up right where Tyler left off. He has worked very hard in the offseason,” said George.

“The guys are excited to start the season, the last one in the New England Football Conference,” said George. “We have developed some small rivalries in the last few years and there are a lot of talented teams in this conference and we look forward to the last time through and having some tough matchups and having some entertaining games.”

THE “NEW” NEW ENGLAND FOOTBALL CONFERENCE In 2013, The New England Football Conference announced a restructuring of the Conference. The NEFC functions as an eight team league and retains the NEFC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The realigned NEFC consists of Curry College, Endicott College, Maine Maritime Academy, MIT, Nichols College, Salve Regina University, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and Western New England. GAME #2 MERCHANT MARINE 14, COAST GUARD 3 September 12, 2015 @ Kings Point, N.Y.

Senior Mike Clancy carried 14 times for 106 yards and two third quarter touchdowns, the first Coast Guard player to rush for over 100 yards since 2012, leading the Bears to a season-opening 34-6 win over Anna Maria in a nonconference game.

Sophomore fullback Luke Tiefenthaler rushed for 172 yards while senior quarterback Matt McDaniels ran for 114 yards leading Merchant Marine to a 14-3 win over Coast Guard to win the Secretariesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Cup.

Sophomore Camden Cecchini scored a pair of first half touchdowns, the first two touchdowns of his career in the win.

The Mariners rushed for 347 yards and finished with 367 yards of total offense while Coast Guard was held to just 162 yards of total offense, just 13 rushing and only 48 yards in the second half.

The Bears got on the board on a 30-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Derek Victory (13 of 20, 148 yards, 1 TD) to classmate Kyle Jackson with 51 seconds left in the first quarter. The extra point was no good and the Bears led 6-0. It was the first career touchdown for Jackson.

Junior quarterback Derek Victory was 14 of 29 for 149 yards with two interceptions and he set the Coast Guard career mark for completions as he finished the day with 429 breaking the mark of 425 held by Cory Anderson (2002-05).

Coast Guard forced Anna Maria to punt and then went 62 yards in eight plays as Cecchini scored from two yards out for a 13-0 lead with 7:01 left in the first half.

Merchant Marine got on the board on a 20-yard touchdown pass from McDaniels to classmate David Gregory with 11:06 left in the second quarter capping a 96-yard drive. The key play in the drive was a 61-yard run by sophomore fullback Luke Tiefenthaler. That completed pass was the only completion for McDaniels (1-5, 20 yards) in the game.

Anna Maria answered with a 33-yard field goal by freshman Francis Cole with 2:13 left in the half to make the score 13-3. The Bears got a 53-yard kickoff return by Will Daniels putting the ball at the AMCAT 31-yard line and Cecchini finished the drive with a three-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left as the Bears led 20-3 at halftime.

Coast Guard responded by driving down to the Merchant Marine 9-yard line, but Victory was intercepted at the 1-yard line by Stone with 6:58 left in the first half. It was the Bears first turnover of the season.

Clancy, who had nine carries for 96 in the second half, scored on a 37-yard run and then a 33-yard run in the third quarter as the Bears pushed the lead to 34-3 with 4:32 left in the third quarter.

The Bears defense forced a punt from the end zone and Coast Guard got the ball back at the Mariners 46-yard line and got on the board on a 32-yard field goal by senior Tyler Henning with 1:08 left in half.

Cole had the only points of the fourth quarter on a 39-yard field goal with 13:32 remaining in the game.

Merchant Marine took the second half kickoff and went 71 yards with sophomore fullback DeVar Jones scoring on a 3-yard run to take a 14-3 lead with 9:02 left in the third quarter. The Mariners converted a 4th-and-2 from the Bears 24 yard-line to keep the drive alive.

Provost led the Bears with three receptions for 81 yards. Senior Chris Bettano led Anna Maria with 22 carries for 76 yards while junior quarterback Daniel Faison was 5 of 13 for 130 yards with an interception. Sophomore Trai Weaver had three receptions for a game-high 103 yards for the AMCATS.

The Bears, after going three-and-out on each of its first two second half possessions, got their only first down of the third quarter on a 19-yard pass from Victory to senior Jordan Groff on the final play of the quarter.

Anna Maria finished with more total yards than Coast Guard 306 to 303, but the AMCATS turned the ball over three times while Coast Guard did not turn the ball over in the win. Anna Maria had 176 rushing yards and 130 passing yards while the Bears had 154 rushing yards and 148 passing yards.

Victory was intercepted by senior Skyler Stone, for the second time in the game, on the Bears first possession of the fourth quarter at the Mariners 35-yard line with 14:04 left. Coast Guard would only have one other possession in the fourth quarter as Merchant Marine got the ball back with 6:50 left and were able to run the clock out.

Senior James Rizzo had the only interception of the game, a first quarter pick that he returned 28 yards before leaving the game with an injury.

Merchant Marine held a huge advantage in time of possession (36:40 to 23:20) finishing with 21 first downs to the Bears 11. The Mariners fumbled four times, but did not turn the ball over recovering the fumbles each time while the Bears turned it over twice.

Coast Guard which had just five rushing touchdowns last season, had four rushing touchdowns in the win. Sophomore linebacker Jacob Brown, making his first career start, led the Bears with eight tackles.

Groff had a game-high six receptions for 66 yards for Coast Guard. Senior linebacker Kyle Wood led the Bears with nine tackles while classmates Mark Behne and Eli Maurer each added eight tackles.

T.J. Tutone threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns and Catholic outscored Coast Guard 26-3 in the second half en route to a 40-24 win over the Bears in a non-conference game.

Tutone was 35 of 58 while Coast Guard junior quarterback Derek Victory was 34 of 59 for 306 yards with one touchdown.

Senior Tyler Henning’s 37yard field goal with three seconds left gave Coast Guard a thrilling 21-20 upset win over Salve Regina, ranked 5th in New England, in the NEFC opener for both teams in front of a large Parents’ Weekend crowd. Sophomore Ryan Robertson’s second blocked punt of the game setup the game winning kick. Robertson, who had a huge game on special teams, also recovered a fumbled punt.

Sophomore tight end Cody Bain had career-highs with nine receptions for 135 yards along with his first career touchdown reception.

Salve junior Sam Pascale rushed for 216 yards on 36 carries and the go ahead score with 9:41 left in the game as the Seahawks finished with 439 yards of total offense (234 rushing) while the Bears totaled 224 yards (171 passing).

Catholic finished with 566 yards of total offense while Coast Guard had 333 yards. The Bears, who rushed for just 13 yards last week, were held to 27 yards on 24 carries.

Henning opened the scoring with a 28-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter as the Bears took a 3-0 lead.

Lucas Morley had 13 receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cardinals.

The Seahawks took the lead on a 17-yard touchdown pass from junior Brendan Basil (24 of 39, 205 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT) to sophomore tight end Tommy Seaver with 11:44 left in the first half for a 7-3 lead capping a 75 yard drive.

Senior Paul Puddington had a 40-yard interception return to tie the game 7-7 with 5:46 left in the first quarter. It was the first interception of his career.

Henning added a 35-yard field goal with 1:04 left in the first half as the Bears trailed 7-6 at the half.

Senior Kyle Wood recovered a fumble on the Catholic 10yard line and on the next possession and on the next play senior Jordan Groff had a 10-yard run for a 14-7 lead.

The Seahawks took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched 71 yards in just six plays as Basil threw a 40yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Alex Hulme on 3rd and 11 to take a 14-6 lead with 12:06 left in the third.

Victory threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Bain with 2:28 left in the half as the Bears took a 21-14 lead into the half.

Victory threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Jordan Groff to cut the deficit to 14-12 with 7:04 left in the third quarter. Groff’s two-point conversion run failed.

Catholic had 306 yards of total offense in the first half, 185 passing while the Bears finished with 158 total yards in the opening half, 135 of those in the air.

Coast Guard would take the lead 18-14 on a 2-yard touchdown run by Victory with 3:27 left in the third quarter. His two-point pass was no good.

The Cardinals scored touchdowns on each of its first three possessions of the second half turning a 21-14 halftime deficit into a 34-24 lead as the Bears added a 27-yard field goal by Tyler Henning in the third quarter.

Salve drove 84 yards in 13 plays with Pascale scoring on a 14-yard run for a 20-18 lead with 9:41 left, the extra point, which would loom large later was missed.

Senior Jordan Groff added eight receptions for 56 yards while classmate Carter Provost had six catches for 54 yards in the loss.

Robertson came up huge again blocking a punt and senior Cory Sonnega recovered giving the Bears the ball at the Salve 37-yard line with 2:35 left in the game to set up the game winning kick.

Senior Joe Rizzardi had a huge game on defense as he finished with 17 tackles, nine solo while senior Kyle Wood finished ten tackles.

Victory was 19 of 34 for 171 yards and a touchdown. He set the Coast Guard Academy career passing attempts record in the win.

Senior Mark Behne had two of the Bears three fourth quarter interceptions including the final one in the end zone with 40 seconds left as Coast Guard overcame a 14-0 deficit and held off Maine Maritime 21-14.

Senior Mike Clancy ran for a careerhigh 134 yards and a touchdown while junior quarterback Derek Victory threw a touchdown pass and ran for another leading Coast Guard to a 28-13 win over MIT on Homecoming Weekend.

Senior quarterback Derek Victory’s 7-yard touchdown pass to classmate Jordan Groff with 11:55 left broke a 14-14 tie. Victory became the Bears all-time passing yards leader in the win as he finished the game with 4,686 yards breaking the mark of 4,569 set by Jon Resch (2009-12).

Clancy had 12 carries for 106 yards and his touchdown in the second half and the Coast Guard defense shutout MIT in the second half. DEREK VICTORY

The Bears, who ran for a seasonhigh 204 yards on 40 carries, won their third straight for the first time since 2007.

MIT scored the opening possession of the game on a 32-yard field goal by junior Tucker Cheyne for a 3-0 lead with 10:16 left in the first quarter.

Maine Maritime had three possessions in the fourth quarter, all of which ended in interceptions with sophomore Will Daniels getting the first of his career with 14:03 left in the game which set up the go ahead score before Behne added a pair of interceptions.

Later in the first quarter, the Coast Guard defense came up big as senior Joe Rizzardi returned an interception 16 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 7-3 lead with 3:46 left.

The Mariners triple-option offense ran for 403 yards on 82 carries and had 428 yards of total offense while dominating time of possession (41:50 to 18:10). Coast Guard had 245 total yards, 80 of those on the ground.

Cheyne booted a 24-yard field on the next possession as the Engineers trimmed the lead to 7-6 with 14:04 left in the opening half.

Senior Joe Rizzardi blocked a 22-yard field goal attempt with 5:31 left in the third quarter and the game remained tied 14-14.

Coast Guard would then march 81 yards in 14 plays with Victory scoring on a 1-yard run on 4th down to push the lead to 14-6 with 8:27 left in half.

Coast Guard would take the lead on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Victory to Groff with 11:55 left for a 21-14 lead.

MIT would answer by going 71 yards in nine plays with sophomore quarterback Jon King throwing a 10-yard touchdown to classmate Jared Hansen cutting the deficit to 14-13 with 4:42 left in the first half.

Maine Maritime turned it over once again as Behne intercepted a pass on 4th-and-7 from the Coast Guard 34 with 7:44 left. Maine Maritime would drive to all the way to the 5-yard line, but a holding call pushed it back to the 15 and on 4th-andgoal when Behne intercepted the ball in the end zone to preserve the win. Fahey’s 1-yard run with 12:46 left in the first half opened the scoring and freshman Chad Martin’s kick gave the Mariners a 7-0 lead. Maine Maritime used the short field driving just 36 yards for the touchdown.

MIT freshman running back Adis Ojeda had 17 carries for 138 yards in the first half and finished the game with 27 carries for 208 yards. The Bears extended their lead by going 77 yards in seven plays on the opening possession of the second half and Victory threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to junior Kyle Jackson to take a 21-13 lead with 12:49 left in the third quarter. Henning knocked a punt out at the six-yard line and MIT would drive all the way to the Coast Guard 8-yard line before Rizzardi blocked a 25-yard field goal attempt to keep the score 21-13.

Fahey would score on a 9-yard run and Martin’s extra point gave Maine Maritime at 14-0 lead with 10:45 left in the first half.

The Bears started at the MIT 35 and five plays later Clancy scored on a 10-yard run to close the scoring giving the Bears a 28-13 lead with 11:09 left.

The Bears answered with a 10 play, 67-yard drive with Clancy scoring a 3-yard touchdown with 7:06 left in the half and senior Tyler Henning added the PAT to cut the deficit to 14-7.

MIT looked to make it a one score game before senior linebacker Ed Lazowski intercepted King in the end zone with 2:49 left.

Like last week, it was the Coast Guard special teams making a big play as the ensuing kickoff got knocked down by the wind and was untouched before Rizzardi fell on it at the Mariner 27-yard line. The Bears tied the game when Victory threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to junior Kyle Jackson with 6:24 left in the second quarter. Henning added his school-record 88th PAT to tie the game 14-14.

The Engineers finished with 509 yards of total offense, 269 rushing and 240 passing. King was 23 of 41 for 240 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Victory was 13 of 24 for 168 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.

Senior linebacker Kyle Wood had a career-high 18 tackles while Ed Lazowski had 15 tackles and Mark Behne finished with 14 total tackles for the Bears.

Davis, filling in for junior Derek Victory, who was injured last week and is out for the rest of the season, was 25 of 46 for 301 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Derek Victory left the game with an injury after the first series and Curry scored touchdowns on four straight possessions to end the first half. The Colonels had 329 yards of offense in the first half and the Bears were held to just 79 total yards in the opening half.

The Bears scored on the opening possession of the game as Davis marched the team 80 yards in just seven plays. He hit sophomore tight end Cody Bain with a 44-yard touchdown pass down the sideline with just 1:37 into the game for the 7-0 lead.

Cote was 16 of 22 for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half and finished 24 of 35 for 350 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

Coast Guard missed 35-yard field goal with 2:02 left in the opening quarter, but on the next possession, Rizzardi intercepted Michael McCourt and returned it 52 yards to push the lead to 14-0 with 14:15 left in the first half. Davis threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to senior Carter Provost with 6:26 left in the first to push the lead to 21-0.

Sophomore Adam Davis was 13 of 25 for 117 yards in relief of Victory. The Colonels finished with 533 yards of total offense, 182 on the ground, while the Bears finished with 193 total yards, 141 of those in the air. The Bears got on the board when Davis threw his first career touchdown, a 10-yard pass to senior Jordan Groff, with 6:57 left in the third quarter.

Senior Tyler Henning would add a 32-yard field goal with 27 seconds left in the half for a 24-0 lead. Nichols punted on six of its seven first half possessions and also threw the interception. The Bears had 226 yards of total offense in the first half, 196 passing while the Bison had 80 yards in the first half. The Bison finally got on the board with 6:10 left on a 9-yard touchdown run by senior Andre Rickerson. The two-point pass failed and the score was 24-6.

Coast Guard freshman running back Colin Cashin closed the scoring with his first career touchdown, a 6-yard run with 1:36 left. Senior Mark Behneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 47-yard punt return set the Bears up at the Colonel 29-yard line.

Senior wide receiver Jordan Groff had a big day for the Bears leading the way with nine receptions for 125 yards while Provost had five catches for 79 yards. Nichols sophomore quarterback Michael McCourt was 15 of 27 for 75 yards with one interception while leading the way with 27 carries for 84 yards. Junior Grant Klimeck added 18 carries for 56 yards.

Groff (27 yards) and sophomore tight end Cody Bain (23 yards) each had four receptions to lead Coast Guard. Senior Mike Clancy had ten carries for 32 yards to lead the Bears on the ground.

Coast Guard finished with 329 total yards, 301 in the air while Nichols had 267 yards, 192 rushing.

November 7, 2015 @ New London, Conn. Graduate quarterback Tyler Ward was 22 of 25 for 216 yards with a pair of touchdowns and Western New England, ranked 1st in New England and 19th nationally, scored touchdowns of six of its first eight possessions en route to a 51-0 win over Coast Guard.

Three different players threw touchdown passes leading Endicott to a 33-5 win over Coast Guard. The Gulls finished with 491 yards of total offense, 323 yards passing while the Bears were held to a season-low 110 yards, just 24 passing.

The Golden Bears improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Western New England finished with 586 yards, 348 of those on the ground. Coast Guard was held to a season-low 125 yards of total offense, 53 rushing.

Sophomore Adam Davis was 3 of 10 for 11 yards while freshman Ethan Goldcamp was 4 or 10 for 13 yards in the loss. Senior Mike Clancy led the Bears with ten carries for 64 yards.

Senior linebacker Paul Puddington finished with a team high-high 11 tackles while senior Kyle Wood had nine stops and juniors Nick Lodovici and Logan Mars each had eight tackles for Coast Guard.

Junior Nick Connell carried 17 times for 109 yards and a pair of scores while Ward carried 13 times for 50 yards in the win. Senior Kevin Degnan carried six times for 37 yards and a pair of scores including a 5-yard touchdown run on the opening drive for a 7-0 lead with 11:51 left in the first quarter.

Michael Scherer was 12 of 20 for 201 yards and a touchdown while Sam Ouellette was 8 of 10 for 113 yards and two touchdown passes for the Gulls.

Western New England would score touchdowns on its first three possessions in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead with 3:48 left in the first quarter and the Golden Bears also scored on their final three possessions of the first half taking a 42-0 lead into halftime.

Lavante Wiggins led Endicott with 16 carries for 73 yards. Kyle Regan opened the scoring with a 23 yard field goal with 7:33 left in the first quarter.

The Golden Bears had 349 yards of total offense in the first half, 184 rushing and 165 passing while Coast Guard was held to 35 first half yards.

Jacob Simmons caught a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter with receptions of 22 and 14 yards. The extra point on the second touchdown was blocked and senior Joe Rizzardi returned it all the way for two points and the Bears trailed 16-2 with 3:30 left in the first half.

Degnan had a 14-yard touchdown run for the only touchdown of the third quarter and the Golden Bears got a safety on a bad snap with 3:49 left in the game to close the scoring.

Endicott had 222 yards of total offense in the first half, 122 of those on the ground while the Bears were held to 29 yards total yards, 20 of those yards rushing. Jake Pelletier threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Michael Scherer with 8:05 left in the third quarter to push the lead to 23-2.

Coast Guard sophomore Adam Davis was 8 of 18 for 28 yards with one interception while freshman Ethan Goldcamp was 8 of 11 for 44 yards off the bench.

Senior Tyler Henning booted a season-long 40 yard field goal, the school-record tying 28th of his career, with 2:52 left in the quarter to make the score 23-5.

Junior Kyle Jackson and senior Jordan Groff each had four receptions to lead the Bears. Senior Joe Rizzardi led the Coast Guard defense with 13 tackles and 11 solo and the Bears only interception of the game which appeared he would return for a touchdown, his third of the season before an inadvertent whistle blew the play dead.

Regan would kick a 27-yard field goal and Connor Crotty would catch at 7-yard touchdown pass from Sam Ouelette with 3:15 left in the game to close the scoring.

COAST GUARD ACADEMY IN THE NCAA PLAYOFFS NCAA Division III Playoffs--November 22, 1997 ROWAN 43, COAST GUARD 0 GLASSBORO, N.J.— Senior quarterback Greg Lister threw for 289 yards, 236 in the first half, and three touchdowns as Coast Guard was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs for the second straight season by a team from New Jersey. Eugene Foster opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run with 8:33 left in the first quarter and on the next possession Lister threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jamaine Crawford to make it 14-0 with 4:45 left in the first quarter. Rowan rolled up 508 yards of total offense while holding Coast Guard to just 92 total yards.

NCAA Division III Playoffs--November 23, 1996 COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY 17, COAST GUARD 16 EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J.— Coast Guard’s season ended in dramatic fashion as the Bears scored with 1:17 left on a one-yard run by James Jones on fourth-and-one to pull within 17-16. The celebration was short lived however as the extra point sailed wide right. The Lions struck first on a 30-yard field goal by Dan Sperco and then Jaime Cropper (18 carries, 131 yards) ended the first half scoring on a 55-yard run to give the Lions a 10-0 halftime lead. Coast Guard climbed back into the game when Al Thompson (3 catches, 68 yards) ignited the Bears with 57- yard touchdown reception from Dan Warren. The Bears defense controlled the second half shutting down the option that proved to be so successful in the first half. Coast Guard tied the game 10-10 on a Steve Deveau 24-yard field goal with 12:47 left in the 4th quarter, but three minutes later, College of New Jersey quarterback Pete Harteveld capped off a five play drive with a one-yard run to give the College of New Jersey a 17-10 lead. Damon Maldonado led the Bears defense with 16 tackles, while Stan Sanchez and Ed Hernaez had 10 apiece.
