2016 ONLINE GUIDE

2016 SEASON PREVIEW The Bears return five of their seven runners competing at the New England Regional Championships including top finisher Gretchen Krause (19:47 5K NEWMACs / 23:05 6K Regionals).

Bonny Turnage and Rachel Burchill will prove to be formidable runners on the team and in the conference. Turnage began her breakout year runner to the #2 spot at regionals (23:46 6K) then to go on in the track season to run 4:53 in the 1500 meters as well as 18:16 in the 5000 meter

“We are fortunate to return so many runners from last season’s roster. Our returners gained some valuable experience from last year’s cross country and track & field seasons,” said head coach Ethan Brown.

during the outdoor track & field season. Burchill kept turning up the intensity all year. She posted the CGA’s #2 indoor track & field season 5000 meters at 19:53, but then went on to top that at 19:17 outdoors and then ran a 39:55 in the 10,000 meters.

“The roster is a little smaller, but that is no indicator of our potential. There are so many runners on our team that could really make a significant impact to our team’s performance and make a run for a big performance at NEWMAC’s,” added Brown.

One senior, Jenn Haley (5:03 1500 / 19:56 5K), and three sophomores, Anita Green (19:38 5K, 23:44 6K), Nina Ragle (19:28 5k/23:48 6K), and Morgan Garrett (injured during cross country, outdoor 800m best was 2:25) will also play a big role in keeping a tight scoring group.

SEASON PREVIEW

Krause was a consistent runner for CGA through the championships season of cross country finishing in the top spot for both NEWMACs and Regionals. She later went on to run 2:22 in the 800 meters during the outdoor track & field season.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Coast Guard welcomes six newcomers, among which Kirstin Carson, Olivia Suski, and Olivia Konecni will look to compete for a scoring spot.

TIM FITZPATRICK DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS SIXTH YEAR Tim Fitzpatrick is in his sixth year as Director of Athletics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and on his watch the USCGA’s athletic program has seen growth in several key areas. In addition to securing a comprehensive, five-year shoe and apparel agreement with adidas America for the academy’s 23 NCAA sports, has overseen a rebranding initiative that has resulted in new logos and marks and created an athletic booster organization (the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Bear Club). Under Fitzpatrick’s guidance, the department produced its first-ever women’s professional development seminar (the Women’s LeadHERship Symposium) for female USCGA athletic staff members as well as attendees from colleges and universities throughout New England, and has launched an external program for sale of corporate sponsorships and partnerships. Fitzpatrick was the Director of Athletics at Texas A&MCorpus Christi for two years prior to his arrival at USCGA, after spending the previous four years as the Deputy Athletic Director at Indiana University. At Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Fitzpatrick secured major gifts for construction of a new outdoor tennis center, as well as renovation of the university’s baseball and softball stadiums. He additionally served on the NCAA’s Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee while in south Texas, and executed a strategic plan which increased the department’s corporate sponsorship revenue by nearly 40%.
