YOUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE! HABITS OF LEARNING Gibbons students build habits of learning that will serve them far beyond their high school or even college experience. At our core, Cardinal Gibbons strives to help our students develop the aptitude and passion to learn actively throughout their lives so that they can adjust in an ever-changing future, become leaders and ethical citizens, and, most importantly, live with purpose. HABITS OF MIND Cardinal Gibbons holistically addresses adolescent needs, focusing not only on academics, but also nurturing imagination, creativity, and moral development. We value independence, passion, collaboration, and spirituality as the hallmarks of our students. Gibbons students are the agents of their
own education. We are also a Catholic school that offers a rigorous academic program, preparing our students for the intellectual, academic, social, and emotional challenges they will face in college, and in the greater world around them. Gibbons’ curriculum embodies the principle of “learning by doing by affording students abundant opportunities for hands-on investigation, student-centered discussions, regular retreats at Short Journey, and engaging in local and global communities through our robust Outreach program. Our educational model provides students with an education that supports character formation through intellectual rigor and critical thinking, creative expression, Catholic identity, and a wide array of athletic and artistic opportunities.
A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL JEFF BELL There is no school like Cardinal Gibbons in North Carolina. We are a Catholic school rooted in critical inquiry and academic rigor. Our robust arts and athletics offerings push our students to be their best both creatively and competitively, and our diverse co-curricular programming provides a wide range of opportunities from growth and personal development. Gibbons’ culture is vibrant and inclusive. We are a school that is committed to helping them to become leaders as adults in their chosen professions, in their families, and in the Church. We have a 111-year history of preparing our students not just for college, but also for life. It is our privilege to educate, to mentor, and to form our students so that they can go on to do great things in their lives and make a difference in our world. We are proud to welcome you to Cardinal Gibbons, and we look forward to welcoming you into our community.

ENGAGE YOUR HEART As a Catholic high school, we are committed to the faith life of our community. Our Spiritual Life program enables students to attend and lead one of over 40 retreats at our own Short Journey Retreat Center. Retreatants pray, grow, and live the story of their faith in their hearts.
Prayer is a consistent part of the Gibbons experience in all classes and events. Signs of our faith are evident throughout our campus. And they are visible in the many ways our students and educators willingly share their gifts with and love one another.
We also partner with 37 area service organizations, participate in over 200 hours of community service annually, and live out our call to serve.

ENGAGE YOUR SPIRIT Visitors often talk about the life and energy they see at Gibbons. This activity comes from our deep sense of faith, hope, and love, and our gratitude towards each other. When our students step on campus as freshmen, they have the opportunity to engage with our vibrant community, share our mission, and find joy in our over 50 co-curriculars.
By the time our students are seniors, they are creating and leading more opportunities for the students who will follow them. Cardinal Gibbons also is a home for parents who are encouraged to have their own experience separate from that of their students. We invite parents to embrace the Gibbons spirit and find their place within the school community.

SPORTS AS A MINISTRY We have an extensive athletics program with 900 student-athletes, 95 coaches and 50 teams competing in 27 different sports. Our goal is to get 100% of our students involved in some level.
to compete in college annually. We have won the State Wells Fargo Cup for Overall Athletic Excellence more than any other school in state history.
To that end, Cardinal Gibbons provides meaningful participation opportunities for all students - from intramurals to championshipcaliber competition for college-bound athletes.
Our success, however, is measured by how well we use our talents and gifts for good in our community. Our teams engage in service, go on retreats, celebrate Mass, and find opportunities to lead our school - together. We use the playing field to form men & women who serve and lead, in church and community.
We have won 119 state championships. Some 35 to 40 of our senior athletes earn scholarships

TECHNOLOGY At Cardinal Gibbons High School, we believe that technology in the classroom is an expected part of the learning experience in the same way that we expect students and educators to use pens, pencils, calculators and textbooks. We empower our educators to design their lessons utilizing the best tool(s) to meet their learning goals. Through our 1:1 device program, started in 2013, it is our vision that all students will graduate with the ability to troubleshoot devices as well as develop the skills needed to seek tech support and articulate the challenges they are experiencing. We believe that these problem-solving and communication skills are important transferable life skills that all graduates need.
STARS STARS (Student Technology Assistance Resource & Support) is a student-centered help desk which focuses on keeping technology at Cardinal Gibbons current and connected.
