How long have you worked here and in what areas?

Cadd’s Corner

I have worked here since the summer of 2013 in Archives, DVDs, Information Commons, and Circulation.

Yes I do! Circulation is fun because of the contact I have with my peers. Archives helped me to learn so much. I learned more about the university as well as things about metadata and how to make databases.

10 QUESTIONS WITH J’LYSA ROBINSON What exactly were you studying and what did your research entail?

J'Lysa Robinson is a Winston-Salem native and senior that is expected to graduate in the fall of 2016. She is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Justice Studies. J'Lysa is very passionate about the justice system and hopes to one day bring change to a flawed system. We are honored to have such a vibrant, successful, driven, and great individual on our staff! She has worked at the library for over three years and is what she considers a "seasoned vet" when it comes to O'Kelly Library. Ms. Robinson and her classmates Noah Williamson, Da'Shan Flonnary and J.D. Polk, wrote an article for a Justice Administration class that was recently published. Bookmark 67 decided to recognize her accomplishments and talk about the opportunity. Tell us t he process of your research and how it resulted in you getting published? There was an assignment offered to the Justice Administration class, by her professor Dr. Denise Nation. Dr. Nation was working on the exoneration of a man named Ronnie Long who was wrongly convicted. A woman was raped and he was charged based on false evidence. The eyewitness was led by

Dr. Nation was working on the exoneration of Ronnie Long. She was studying how there was no evidence that proved Long was guilty. Long was racially profiled and wrongly charged and convicted. At first it was just a group project that was assigned. That ended up being a really great publishing opportunity for me and my classmates. What made you want to conduct t hat type of particular research?

the police and picked Mr. Long at random because he was black. How did you feel about getting published, initial reaction? I literally could not breathe. During a very difficult test Dr. Nation approached me about the paper and said she would like to publish it. What was your initial goal and expectations before going into t his? I have always felt that getting published is something that is beneficial for me especially when it comes to her resume’ and continuing my education in grad school. In my mind it was not so much a big deal about getting published or even being recognized, it was more of a shock than anything.

I am very passionate about the inconsistences in the justice system and how I can work toward corrections that need to be made. I am a critical thinker and finding information that I feel strongly about comes easy.

I always joke about how I want to be the next Ronunda Claiborne. If all else fails I would seriously consider getting a Library Science degree and coming back here. What are your future plans as far as education and career goals are concerned? I have 5 or 6 plans that include Admissions Recruiting, pursuing at least my Master’s Degree, obtaining a Library Science Degree (UNCG) and come back here to work, or get my PhD in Psychology or a Law Degree to become an expert witness and attempt to rectify the justice system.

Book of the Month O’Kelly Library student worker, Evyan Durham has selected the March Book of the Month: Shake Loose My Skin

Did your working at t he library assist or have anyt hing at all to do wit h helping you conduct your research? Yes, most definitely! Working here at the library put me in touch with Ms. Ronunda Claiborne; one of our previous Reference librarians who was also the Education department’s liaison. She pushed me to my limit and help me dig deeper. I will always be indebted to her and I will always consider her my mentor. If Ronunda Claiborne had never worked in the library, I would have no clue where I would be. She taught me how to do research and what research really was as well as how wording is key in anything you write. She was very supportive of me and a true godsend.
