Royal defense Bears hold Westwood under 100 yards with dominating D CHAD WILSON sports@c-bstatesman.com Just about everything went right for the Brownsboro Bears on Friday the 13th as they played host to Westwood in nondistrict action. Homecoming 2013 was a breakout party for the Brownsboro defense as it held Westwood to 83 total yards of offense in route to a 34-6 victory. “I am very proud of the way our offense and defense performed. I thought our defense did a tremendous job against an offense that is usually very stingy. We made some great stops and did not let them get on track,” head coach Jason Hooker said. Brownsboro held Westwood to 15 yards of total offense in the first half while the blue and gold scored four times offensively. Trailing 27-6 at the half, Westwood took its opening possession of the third quarter to paydirt Sept. 20 scoring on a sevenvs Wills Point yard run. Bear Stadium The 65-yard drive - Preview 3B was aided by a 15yard personal foul penalty on the Bears after Westwood broke off its longest play of the day – a 45-yard run. Following the long drive, Brownsboro held Westwood to two yards of offense the rest of the game. “It really was a team effort tonight. I am sure when we watch film we will see some individuals that really stood out but I saw a gang-tackling style to the ball. I saw three or four guys getting to the ball so many times and I am so proud of the team effort,” Hooker said. Westwood scored 54 points in a week one victory against Huntington as the Panthers totaled more than 400 yards of offense, including a 235-yard rushing performance by Peter Calhoun. Calhoun was held to three yards on four carries Friday as the Bears allowed just two plays of 10 yards or more. Hooker gets win No. 1 CHAD WILSON sports@c-bstatesman.com First-year head coach Jason Hooker picked up his first victory on the varsity football level in fine fashion last week as the Brownsboro Bears topped Westwood 34-6 on homecoming. In his 19th season as a football coach, Hooker celebrated with friends and family after the game before being presented with a game ball by defensive coordinator Josh Turner. “This win seems like it was a long time coming. This is my 19th year of coaching. Growing up coaching, so to speak, you look forward to the opportunity of having your own team and staff and putting everything together for a win,” Hooker said. “This is very rewarding because of all the hard work we have come in and done since March.
