LIVING OUR MISSION Chadwick Schools strive to develop global citizens with keen minds, exemplary character, self-knowledge and the ability to lead.
— CHADWICK MISSION STATEMENT
In 1935, Margaret Chadwick set out to make her ambitious educational vision a reality with the establishment of Chadwick Open Air School, which evolved into Chadwick School as we know it. In doing so, she enriched not only those fortunate enough to know and learn from her personally, but the generations of students and teachers who have attended and worked at the school in the years that followed. Margaret Chadwick’s influence continues to be felt daily at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, at Chadwick International in Songdo, South Korea and in the lives of thousands of Chadwick alumni throughout the world. As we approach the 90th anniversary of Chadwick’s founding, her philosophy guides us as we seek
to fulfill our Mission to “develop global citizens with keen minds, exemplary character, self knowledge and the ability to lead.” We are grateful to you – our alumni, parents, trustees, alumni parents, grandparents, faculty and staff and philanthropic friends – for your enduring commitment to Chadwick's students and Mission. Your generous gifts of time, talent and treasure help power a world-class education grounded in Margaret Chadwick’s vision and philosophy. Our students and the world are richer for it. Thank you for all you do in support of our students, and the entire Chadwick community.

FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD Dear Chadwick Community, As I complete my second year as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Roessler-Chadwick Foundation (RCF), I remain impressed by how remarkable Chadwick is as an institution and, more importantly, as a community. Each year at Commencement, I reflect on the achievements of our Senior Class and my own children’s educational journeys. Our students walk through Chadwick’s signature graduation gates shedding their identities as Chadwick students and entering their next stage in life. The Class of 2023 received 495 offers of admission from 170 different colleges and universities across the country and will attend 57 different colleges/ universities. There is much hope and promise ahead for these wonderful young people. For the 2022–23 school year, the RCF Board established three goals: 1. Complete the Strategic Plan. 2. Successfully transition and onboard our new Head of School Jessica Donovan. 3. Review, and revise if appropriate, the governance structure. STRATEGIC PLAN In June 2023, the RCF Board announced an exciting set of strategic goals to propel Chadwick forward over the next five years. By 2028, Chadwick School will stand as a model of an educational community that: Commits to Leading Values Community Wellness
6
Prioritizes Institutional Sustainability Ensures an Accessible Experience Head of School Jessica Donovan will work with the school’s leadership team to define specific initiatives to achieve these strategic goals. HEAD OF SCHOOL TRANSITION During the 2022–23 school year, Chadwick’s incoming Head of School Jessica Donovan visited the Chadwick community several times and met with a variety of administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and board members. She also actively participated in Strategic Planning Committee meetings. Finally, she was able to engage in many Chadwick traditions old and new, including Homecoming, Social Justice Day and the Chadwick Parents Association Golden Gala. ENTERPRISE GOVERNANCE As of July 2023, we established that the RCF and Roessler-Chadwick Foundation Group (RCFG) would be identical in their Board membership. This new governance structure improves our ability to maximize the value of all Chadwick assets and ensures synergy in our board functions. On behalf of Chadwick, I want to thank our Chadwick alumni, parents, trustees, grandparents, parents of

alumni, faculty and staff for their generosity. Together, our community raised more than $4 million during the 2022–23 fiscal year, representing an increase of $1.3 million from the prior year. We also received an additional $4 million in deferred estate gifts. All of these contributions were directed to several important school initiatives including the Annual Fund, special capital projects, financial aid and investments in the school’s endowment. In closing, I would like to thank Tom Sheppard for all he has done as Interim Head of School over the past two years. I would also like to enthusiastically welcome our new Head of School Jessica Donovan. Jessica will continue to build upon the 88 years of values-based leadership that form the solid foundation of Chadwick School and this community. Best regards,
Eden Warner Chair of the Board of Trustees Roessler-Chadwick Foundation

GLOBAL CITIZENS
8
Chadwick cultivates global citizenship in its students, beginning in kindergarten and continuing throughout their education with thoughtfully designed, sequential, age-appropriate experiences. Early exposure to global language instruction, diverse cultures and multiple perspectives empowers Village School students to learn about themselves and others. As students advance through grades K to five, they collaborate remotely on projects with their Chadwick International counterparts. In sixth grade and Middle School, academic and athletic exchanges at our CI campus in Songdo, South Korea, deepen cultural understanding and promote cross-cultural friendships. Middle School students can also participate in Junior Model United Nations and immersive language opportunities. Expanded global opportunities are available to Upper School students. These include semester- and year-long academic and cultural exchanges both within the United States and internationally, including language immersion programs. Round Square conferences and exchanges at 150 member schools worldwide provide additional opportunities. Specialized global experiences in the sciences, humanities and performing arts developed by Chadwick faculty allow students to take their learning beyond the classroom into the world. Strong relationships with local organizations in communities provide an opportunity to engage in authentic and impactful ways around the globe.
“ One of the cornerstones of a Chadwick education is our commitment to fostering cultural competence and preparing students for an ever-changing world. We are thrilled about our students' myriad opportunities to meaningfully engage with different perspectives and cultures, both within the classroom and beyond. At Chadwick, we firmly believe that global education is essential to successfully prepare our students to navigate an interconnected world. We are committed to developing not just global tourists, but global citizens who can effectively engage with the world through respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness and compassion.” —THOMAS "TOMMY" HATTORI Director of Global Education
Chadwick’s Global Education Programs encourage students to seek solutions to complex world issues in solidarity with their international peers. As they learn to analyze, empathize, problem solve and engage, Chadwick students become empowered global citizens, ready to confront the world’s diverse landscape. RECOGNIZING ANNUAL GIVING
All gifts to Chadwick School are greatly appreciated. Because Annual Giving contributions support Chadwick’s current operations and highest priority needs each year, special recognition is afforded to donors who directly support Chadwick’s Annual Fund or Delphinus Operating Fund for Financial Aid, or who make restricted annual gifts to current operations. Recognition levels are determined by the total dollar amount of gifts, including employer matching gifts. Contributions to sponsor or underwrite events or to support parent organizations are not direct contributions to current operations and therefore are not included in Annual Giving recognition. Such contributions are recognized separately at the events or by the parent organizations. Gifts to endowed funds, including the general endowment, support the long-term growth of the school rather than current operations and are honored separately as well. In addition, this list celebrates consecutive years of giving by individuals. It is a testament to the loyalty and commitment of the Chadwick community that so many consistently support the school over multiple years. As with all of our efforts to thank and recognize donors, every attempt has been made to ensure the accuracy of our information. If your records differ from ours, please contact the Institutional Advancement Office so we may update our files. Contributions from donors recognized here represent more than $2.1 million in Annual Giving to Chadwick in 2022–23. We are deeply grateful to all members of the Chadwick community who include Annual Giving to Chadwick in their philanthropic plans each year. Thank you!

KEEN MINDS AND EXEMPLARY CHARACTER
Lived experiences of a diverse and inclusive community develop keen minds and exemplary character and form the foundation of a Chadwick education. At Chadwick, our shared Core Values — Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Fairness and Compassion — are modeled and reinforced daily, providing a compass that guides students toward a life of meaning and purpose. Our students are empowered to make good decisions, respect multiple perspectives, act fairly and honorably, and engage thoughtfully and productively in their school community, at home and beyond. Chadwick School’s immersive, experiential learning environment provides an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to encourage curiosity. Students don’t simply seek to know, but rather to understand the “why” of their learning and then apply those principles beyond the classroom. All students engage in hands-on learning, whether programming in a robotics course, dissecting specimens in kindergarten, performing onstage, or collaborating on multimedia projects in the studio. Experiential learning is more engaging for students, and it also enhances understanding and increases retention of course material. The lived experience of Chadwick students, both inside and outside the classroom, prepares them to engage and thrive as leaders by example in the world. Through our learning environment and in all our programs, students experience the important dynamic between individuality and social responsibility, an essential understanding in a closely connected world. 28
“ When I think about Chadwick students and the word ‘keen’ in our Mission Statement, the etymology ‘pugnacious and bold’ comes to mind! I see our students risking big things to grow, and it reminds me why the pugnacious in our world have helped to find solutions to so many problems. To that we can enjoin 'exemplary character' — this idea that integrity in our dealings with one another doesn't just elevate us, but those around us, too. I've seen that in the way student affinity groups broker conversations with one another about difficult, seemingly intractable problems. Chadwick students give me such hope for the future!” —JOHN ADEN, Ph.D. Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

ANNUAL FUND
TOTAL GIVING TO THE ANNUAL FUND
$1.65 MILLION
All monies raised through the Chadwick Annual Fund are used to support the operating budget in the same academic year that they are contributed. Thanks to the generosity of Annual Fund donors, Chadwick students enjoy enhanced opportunities in all areas of campus life and learning. We thank the following 2022–23 Annual Fund donors for their commitment to making every academic and co-curricular program at Chadwick outstanding for our students. Chadwick relies on a committed group of volunteers to reach out to members of our community for their support of the Annual Fund. These volunteers write letters, make phone calls and assist with planning to help raise funds to support Chadwick’s students, faculty and programs. We are deeply grateful for their hard work, leadership and gifts of time to the school.

SELF-KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY TO LEAD
46
Self-knowledge and the ability to lead are qualities called out separately in the Chadwick Mission Statement, but they are closely connected. When students gain knowledge of who they are and what they value, how they fit into the world, and the talents they can contribute to it, they develop a sense of self and confidence based on learned experience.
“ Our athletic venues are labs for self-knowledge and leadership development. They are where the Core Competencies are executed, and the Core Values are on display.” —JAIME HOFFMAN Director of Athletics
From an early age, Chadwick students are encouraged to discover the many facets of their identities. They are surrounded by opportunities in academics, athletics, performing and visual arts, outdoor education, community service and global learning that expand their boundaries. Faculty, coaches, advisors and older students provide positive role models and mentoring that enable growth. Our alumni pitch in to provide support and specialized expertise, too. Responsible risk-taking, embracing challenges, and seeking and providing compassionate feedback build resilience, independence and courage in Chadwick students. They also learn to value the unique perspectives and gifts of others. All these qualities create a solid foundation for effective leadership. Age-appropriate leadership opportunities, both formal and informal, are available in all three divisions and every area of interest. In addition, students learn different ways of leading, including through positive influence, planning and directing action, analytical thinking, building consensus and working in effective teams. DAY OF GIVING 2023
On behalf of all students and faculty at Chadwick, thank you for your participation in Chadwick's annual Day of Giving on Feb. 14, 2023. The day was a tremendous success! Together, we raised more than $83,000. With gifts from 403 donors, we handily surpassed our goal of 350 donors to earn a $10,000 matching challenge gift for financial aid. A special congratulations to the members of Chadwick’s Class of 2022, who won our Day of Giving Young Alumni Challenge by bringing in the highest number of donors among the classes of 2013–22. In addition, congratulations to the Class of 1990 for winning the “Best of the 90s Decade” challenge with the highest number of donors on that day. Thank you for being a part of this successful partnership and for supporting the educational experience of hundreds of students every day.

ENDOWMENT FUNDS
Endowment funds are financial assets that generate income through effective investment of the principal. Portions of this income are used to relieve the operating budget and, when substantial enough, to help minimize tuition increases. Contributions may be made to existing funds, or new funds may be established through major gifts. Endowment funds are frequently established to honor or remember someone of significance to the school. We are especially grateful to those donors who have established the endowment funds that provide security for our future.

The Chadwick Parents Association (CPA) is an organization made up of parents of current Chadwick students. Its purpose is to support the school and the school community. The CPA coordinates Village Room Parents and Middle and Upper School Parent Representatives, supports parents and families by helping parents become better acquainted, raises funds in support of Chadwick, and helps foster and improve communications between parents and the school. The group organizes a plethora of events and activities throughout the year to enhance the Chadwick experience for students and families. Numerous volunteers donate thousands of hours to enhance the Chadwick experience for all students. In 2022–23, the CPA organized the second annual Fall Fest and the new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Winter Holiday Party. This year’s Spring Event, the Golden Gala, was a glittering triumph at the Rolling Hills Country Club, enjoyed by all. Co-chairs Eunice Moon and Sharla Wilson and other parent volunteers created a festive evening that raised $500,000 for Chadwick's Phase II Outdoor Living and Learning Spaces Initiative, which will support enhancements to the Rosenwald Amphitheatre. Many thanks to all the volunteers, event sponsors and auction donors who contributed to the Golden Gala's success! The CPA donated all proceeds from their multiple 2022–23 fund-raising efforts in support of Chadwick’s Phase II Outdoor Living and Learning Spaces Initiative. We are truly appreciative of the CPA for all the ways it strengthens our school community.
Additionally, the CPA actively supports these programs:
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Chadwick proudly supports diversity, equity and inclusion in our community by encouraging the development and growth of parent affinity and allyship groups. These groups provide affirming spaces for families that share common identities and heritage with others in the Chadwick community. All Chadwick affinity groups are inclusive and welcoming to allies and other community members who wish to be supportive. Several groups are now operating under the Chadwick Parents Association, and plans are underway to develop more.
Global Opportunities Chadwick provides a student exchange program with the Chadwick International campus in Songdo, South Korea. The CPA helps mobilize K–12 Chadwick host families for these exchange students. The student exchanges between campuses provide immersive, memorable experiences for families and students alike.
Visual Arts Squad The Visual Arts Squad is comprised of K–12 parent volunteers who believe that a strong arts education is a sound investment in the overall development of our students. Members support the department throughout the year, donating their time and resources to enhance the program. Opportunities for involvement include assisting with hospitality at art shows, coordinating the department’s donations for the Spring Event, promoting programs and events, and more.

The mission of the Friends of the Library (FOL) is to promote literacy and the love of reading in the Chadwick community and to support the Chadwick Leavenworth Library and librarians. In addition to providing financial resources, the FOL sponsors visiting authors and illustrators, manages the Book Talks and Sneak Peeks, and organizes and implements the Village PALs program. The FOL also works with Chadwick’s Community Service program on literacy projects in the broader Los Angeles community and organizes the much-anticipated Chadwick Book Fair. FOL members give countless volunteer hours each year to support and enhance library and literacy programs in grades K to 12. In 2022–23, the FOL partnered with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department (DEI) to purchase 175 DEI-focused books for the Middle School. Through the Classroom Book Donations program, the FOL provided more than 70 books for classroom use. The FOL again joined with Access Books and Chadwick’s Community Service program to create a library at an under-resourced local school. The FOL also hosted several distinguished visiting authors. Chadwick parent Oliver Sims Jr. presented his book “Introducing Ollie Tamale” to our first- and second-graders. Village School students heard from Chadwick’s own Dr. Dijanna Figueroa and her co-authors, who offered insight and enthusiasm with their S.T.E.A.M. book series. Edward Humes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, presented his book “Garbology” to our Middle and Upper School students. He also spoke to parents, faculty and staff in a separate presentation about his other books, including “Forever Witness” and “Burned.” Chadwick gratefully acknowledges the Friends of the Library for their support of the school and its library and literacy programs.

Throughout the year, the Booster Club promotes attendance at all sporting events, recruits sports representatives for every team, organizes spirit days, sells spirit wear and hosts the Chili Cook-Off. The Booster Club works hard to encourage the entire K–12 community to participate in Chadwick’s community-building athletic traditions. In 2022–23, the Booster Club also made a generous gift of $10,000 in support of the school. Chadwick gratefully acknowledges the Booster Club for its impressive efforts on behalf of the school’s athletics program and sports teams. Go Dolphins!

CHADWICK LIMELIGHTERS The Limelighters mission is to encourage students to participate in Chadwick's Performing Arts programs, including chorus, dance, improv, orchestra and theater, while supporting department objectives. Limelighters representatives serve as liaisons between Village School, Middle School and Upper School Performing Arts faculty and the Chadwick parent community for volunteer solicitation and supplemental support. Throughout 2022–23, the Limelighters provided hundreds of meals for students attending evening and weekend rehearsals. Limelighters also provided dinners during tech weeks and performance evenings. Limelighters volunteers served as ushers at the Laverty Center and provided decor and intermission refreshments for performances. Limelighters hosted faculty receptions before performances and created promotional items for cast members including show pins and telegrams. This year, the Limelighters facilitated and funded two Village School educational assemblies, “Letters to Harriet Tubman” and “Poetry Jam,” featuring performers from The Music Center. In addition, the Limelighters offered financial support for the Chadwick Vocal Music trip to Carnegie Hall.
