Mixed-use Development Location: Chicago, Illinois
This project consists of designing a mixeduse development in the West Loop in Chicago, Illinois. The site is between Monroe St. and Madison St. (North/. South) and Peoria St. and Sangamon St. (East/ West). Mary Bartelme Park is directly to the south of the site. The intent is to create a development that benefits the local economy, other residences in the community, and the developer. The development consists of five key components: a boutique hotel, a music school, a health club, retail spaces, and an integrated parking structure.
Placemaking: City of Metal This project takes place in the Arts District of Benton Harbor, Michigan. The area is home to many artists, musicians, and small businesses. Locals within the area are very committed to providing opportunities for people of all ages to express themselves creatively. The “City of Metal” was created by my classmate, Aryana Robinson, and me. We used shipping containers as residential and commercial spaces. The large gantry crane in the middle operates on tracks and would be used to transport and move around the containers, if need be.
