Mixed-use Development Chicago, Illinois
This project consisted of designing a mixed-use development in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The site is between Monroe St. and Madison St. (North/ South) and Peoria St. and Sangamon St. (East/ West). Mary Bartelme Park is directly to the south of the site. The intent was to create a development that would benefit the local economy, other residences in the community, and the developer. The development consists of five key components: a boutique hotel (orange), a music school (blue), a health club (yellow), retail space (red), and an integrated parking structure (purple). This is a year-long project. The work shown here is from Fall semester only. Spring semester is dedicated to utilizing the BIM software, Revit. This allows for the further enhancement of current drawings and to resolve structural and mechanical details.

Placemaking: City of Metal Benton Harbor, Michigan
This project is located in the Arts District of Benton Harbor, Michigan. The area is home to many artists, musicians, and small businesses. Locals within the area are very committed to providing opportunities for people of all ages to express themselves creatively. The intent of this project was to create spaces/ places for people to utilize and enjoy. The “City of Metal” model was created using SketchUp by my classmate, Aryana Robinson, and me. The idea here was to use shipping containers as residential and commercial spaces. To accommodate growth, we decided a large gantry crane would occupy the center of the site. The crane would operate on tracks and be used to move and add shipping containers where necessary.

Michigan City Mixed-Use Michigan City, Indiana
This project is located in the Arts District of Michigan City, Indiana. The intent of this project was to create a 40,000 square foot mixed-use development that provides an area of refuge for a specific need in the community. I chose to incoroprate a homeless shelter on the third floor of the building. My development consists of a double-height sanctuary space, multiple classrooms, office spaces, a homeless shelter, a garden for the residents, a book store, and a top floor restaurant.

The carriage house includes a two-car garage on the ground level and a one bedroom living area above. The carriage house was to be a timber frame construction. Structural insulated panels (SIPs) were to be used on the interior of the building to construct walls, ceilings, and floors.
