BILLS UPDATE/George Radney
Bills lose to Dolphins. PHOTO JEROME DAVIS
New Bills Regime, Same Old Bills…So Far Chan Gailey and the Bills were out-coached by a mediocre Dolphins team that was not much better than the Bills. Trent Edwards continues to show us he’s not a pro football quarterback. He could not make one more play to win the game. Gailey made a major mistake by not starting Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch both who could run inside the tackles. They should have been given the ball more often, than the under ten carries combined. They were the keys to victory and would have taken the game out of Edwards hands and allowed the team to settle down on offense. Our right tackle, Cornel Green, should be cut immediately, because he cannot play at this level anymore. (Too slow and injury prone. GEORGE RADNEY He should be replaced by Jamon Meredith) Our defense kept us in the game, and made adjustments throughout. Keith Ellison has played more quality games for the Bills as a non-starter after Paul Posluszny left the game with another injury, this time to his knee. Posluszny must be cut and replaced by Akin Ayodele in the middle and Ellison moved to the outside linebacker position. Corey McIntyre had an outstanding special team’s performance by making three solo tackles, and assisting on keys plays that also kept us in the game. He also had a very questionable holding penalty call against him after a Fred Jackson 15-yard run out of the wildcat formation. David Nelson, only Bills wide receiver said, “I tried too keep my composure, and do what I’m supposed to do…I’ve been here for three months, and I and Trent must look at game film to see exactly what was happening. I look forward to contributing to our team. It was a great learning experience, and I’m glad to get the first game out of my system, and now play the next game.” David Nelson, a free agent rookie out of Florida University, had a descent game and was open throughout , but our guy Trent could not find him or Lee Evans. The Bills lost 15-10 to Dolphins, but I expect a better showing in Green Bay with a 20-17 loss to the Packers. Unfortunately we have an 0-2 start to the 2010 NFL season.

Election Results McLeod, Pridgen, Thompson Win!
Winners! (L-R) Pridgen, Thompson, McLeod.
McLeod did it! After years of “politricks” and disappointing election bids, City Court Judge James A.W. McLeod finally got the win he deserved Tuesday night in his bid for Erie County Judge. A Primary victory was critical for McLeod in order for him to stay in the race in the November General Election, where he will face his opponent (who will be running on the Republican line in November ) once again. He won the Primary with 57 percent of the votes with 97 percent of the districts reporting. There are currently no African American judges in the County Court System.
Thompson Wins Decisive Victory State Senator Antoine Thompson campaigned hard during the Primary and it paid off as he won a decisive victory over his two opponents with 59 percent of the votes with 96 percent of the districts reporting. Despite negative campaigning and on-going media/ Internet/political attacks against him, Thompson stood firmly on his record of progressive leadership and got the results he so justly deserved.
Pridgen is Victorious With 88 percent of the districts reporting, the Rev. Darius Pridgen easily defeated his opponents by taking 64% of the vote to become the next Ellicott District Councilmember. It was a redemptive moment for the charismatic religious and civic leader, who was denied the seat by the Council despite being the community’s choice for the seat after it was vacated by Brian Davis. Other Results: *Incumbent Sam Hoyt beat back challenger Joseph Golombek, winning 51 percent of the vote in the race for the 144th Assembly District. *Carl Paladino won the Republican nomination for Governor and will run in the November General Election.

HEALTH MATTERS
The Importance of Cleansing to Your Health T
By Abdel J. Nuriddin, N.D., Ph.D
he notion that cleansing the colon will somehow relieve disorders or rejuvenate the human organism not new. As far back as human beings can remember, purgatives to relieve stomach aches and constipation, such as hydrated bentonite, aloe Vera, cas cara sagrada, senna leaf and castor oil have been used as remedies and suggested to expel unwanted waste. This waste or undigested matter, mostly composed of undigested protein, is seen to be the culprit in the development of catarrh which leads to discharges, colds or the beginning of disease. For many years of my youth and adult life, I suffered with constipation. I didn’t have the slightest idea why my body tired and sluggish most of the time. It wasn’t until I was introduced to a naturopathic doctor, who was also a practicing iridologist that I found out about all the old fecal matter that was trapped in my body that was creating the problem. After subjecting myself to a series of colonics an colon cleansing herbs, I felt so much better. My energy level

improved and unhealthy sinus symptoms faded away. The reality is that most people today are walking around with pounds of this putrid matter in their Gastro intestinal tracts unaware of its impact on their lives. Some studies say people could have in excess of 30 to 50 pounds of this unwanted matter in their bodies. The need to remove this morbid matter from the body is so crucial to improved health, that most alternative health care practitioners recommend it as one of the fist steps to the rejuvenation of lost health. It is also suggested as a consistent measure to maintain healthy balance between body mind and spirit. The Primitive Gut Tube One of the first things to develop in the new forming embryo in the womb of its mother is the primitive gut tube. This tube can be seen with budding like developments on it after approximately four weeks of growth. Ultimately, this tube becomes the bowel, intestine or colon and these shapes that look like buds become organs that make up the human body. As the gut tube grows into the colon, these organs remain attached to the colon via the nervous system indefinitely.
Through this development from primitive gut tube to colon, we can see the importance of cleansing the colon. If our vital organs, such as the liver, spleen, kidneys, etc., have a direct relationship with the colon through the nervous system, it is imperative to maintain the health of the colon to protect these vital organs. The nerve flow from the colon to these organs and glands and from the organs and glands to the colon is critical to the effective functioning of that network. When the colon becomes congested with fecal matter and enervation sets in, then stimulation to and from these vital organs are lost, leading to an imbalance in function. Many operations on the colon for one matter have accidentally cleared up other matters. Doctors have reported that operating on a patient for diverticulitis or cancer of the colon, many times has led to the cleaning of parts of the colon that were not affected, and in doing so other symptoms went away after the operation. This tells us that restricted nerve flow from a congested colon will affect the efficient functioning of o r g a n s and glands in other parts of the body. Therefore, the attention that is given to
Maat E’s Mental Health Message: Open Heart When we free our hearts, the rest of our lives can follow. Sometimes we all get a little stuck in painful emotions. It feels like the grip of pain and anger will not let go. A key to emotional freedom is opening the heart, first to let the pain out and second to let love in. If we can open our hearts, we can free ourselves,. Have a peaceful day. -Dr. Ma’at E. L. Lewis
the colon in terms of cleansing is preventive to disease in the body. This attention also will lead to the body’s own curative powers being activated. I believe if most people knew that their heart, stomach, adrenal glands, eyes, prostate, ovaries and other vital organs and glands originated in the gut, they would take better care of it. The body has the ability to heal itself, if it is given the chance through p roper maintenance. One of the main factors to this maintenance is in colon cleansing. For consultation call 336-852-3040. Dr. Nuriddin will lecture here on Saturday, September 18 at the R Healin Center, 1067 Kensington Avenue. Donation is $20.

Dick Gregory Announces Fast for 911 Truth One of New York City’s largest gatherings of scholars, investigative journalists, former intelligence operatives, architects and activists convened in lower Manhattan, Thursday, September 9 thru Sunday, September 12 for panels that challenged the government’s version of what happened on September 11, 2001. The organizing group, ‘We Are Change’, presented LEROY BAYLOR scores of speakers such as Cynthia McKinney and Cindy Sheehan; authors, Hank Albarelli, Peter Dale Scott; intelligence veterans, Wayne Madsen, Ray McGovern; talk show host and researcher Ralph Schoenman; blogger Michael Ruppert; and, activist, comedian, researcher Dick Gregory. The most frequently mentioned observation in several panels was the manner in which the three World Trade Center buildings fell. “Controlled demolition”, “Implosion” were terms emphasized by several speakers and reinforced by a new report by the organization, ‘Architects and Engineers for 911 Truth’, founded in 2006 by Richard Gage. Dick Gregory referred to this report
Author Interviews Cuba’s Former President:
Fidel Castro Speaks on the “Bilderberg Group,” US Military Bases in Latin America and the Al Qaeda “Terrorist Bogeyman” HAVANA – Recently former Cuban president Fidel Castro published an article in the Cuban newspaper Granma that was in large part a retelling of information detailed in the best selling book The True Story of the Bilderberg Group by investigative journalist Daniel Estulin. The Bilderberg Group is a highly secretive annual meeting of the world’s richest and most powerful people. According to Estulin, the conclave determines how the world is to be run in behind-the-scenes forums attended by royalty, top business people and senior government officials. The group, founded in 1954, held its 2010 meeting in Sitges, Spain. “The obligation of all human beings is to make sure of the survival of all the human species. The Bilderberg Club wants to make sure of its survival exclusively, ” the author says.
DICK GREGORY as he spoke before an overflow session Sunday afternoon. “The new forensic evidence released by Architects and Engineers for 911 Truth demonstrates the presence of controlled demolition material in the World Trade Center buildings One and Two,” he said, “…at least 900 first responders have since died as a result of the effects of toxic dust from the buildings and the 3000 human remains that enveloped lower Manhattan.” Gregory observed that Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani’s directive to immediately clear the World Trade Center rubble constituted removal of “evidence from a massive crime scene”. He continued, “One thing I know is that the official government story of those events, as well as what took place that day at the Pentagon, is just that, a story. This story is not the truth, but far from it.” He concluded with a declaration of a special fast. “I was born on October 12, 1932,” he continued,” I am announcing that I will be consuming only liquids beginning today until my eightieth birthday in 2012 and until the real truth of what really happened on that day emerges and is publicly known.” Gregory reminded the audience that his extensive career in fighting for human rights confirmed his notion of the power of collective prayer, fasting and affirmations, and that “it doesn’t matter who comes out with the truth, it is a matter of prayer everyday at noon for the truth to come out”.
‘Dozens of children die’ in Nigerian lead poisoning Doctors said when the poisoning was discovered that the situation would get worse. As many as 30 children have died of lead poisoning in northern Nigeria over the past week, authorities believe. Scores of people - mostly children - have already died this year in Zamfara state, poisoned by lead-contaminated waste from illegal gold mining. The latest deaths occurred in a remote village near the town of Anka. But officials have not been able to confirm the reports because rainy-season downpours have prevented them from getting to the area.Lead poisoning has killed at least 160 since June, when visiting doctors realised children in the region were dying in unusually large numbers. Investigating scientists traced the source of the poisoning to soil contaminated with lead which had been dumped in water sources by miners. Page 6
Castro was so impressed with Estulin that he invited the author to Cuba to personally meet with him. Castro himself has been a major figure in world politics, especially during the Sixties when he stood up to the Kennedy administration during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Since the Cuban hero is not under pressure from the major media to quell any mention of conspiracy-related issues, he is nearly alone among international political figures in wanting to out the Bilderberg Group. Estulin met with Castro on August 26 for nearly three hours. He is the first western journalist to interview former Cuban President in the past five years. Estulin said, “I found him to be very much recovered from the illness that nearly took his life. His handshake is firm, his walk steady, his look penetrating. He has a twinkle in his eyes that tell me he is not quite ready to play dead. I told him that many people around the world are hoping for his full recovery because he is the one man who can galvanize nations towards progress and development which will subsequently increase the power of man over nature.” Both men agreed that the U.S. is looking towards other Latin American countries as locations for military bases, Venezuela being one. So far, Castro noted, “against all odds, Venezuela continues being of the few countries of the world where there are no North American military bases. And they hate Cuba for the same reason: its independence.” They also agreed that U.S. administra- tions have used the Al Qaeda terrorist network as a convenient bogeyman each time they have needed to scare the public. According to Estulin’s sources, however, the last time that Bin Laden’s true voice was heard was on the 21st of December 2001. “As of that date, it disappears. From then on, they have replaced him with a bad actor, who gets dressed like him, but does not look like him.” Estulin also has documented information on the strategic arms objectives against Russia, and claims that the US is building bases in Afghanistan not to confront Iran, but aimed at southern Russia. Castro listened with interest and said that, “to accumulate more than 25,000 nuclear weapons is not a mark of prudent people. This passed through my mind while you spoke, and I wondered what would it take to stop all this. That was exactly why I wanted to talk with you. I have a spent long time reading and collecting information. We have always asked questions, while those who make decisions that can decide the life of million people, are misinformed.” Estulin presented his books The True Story of the Bilderberg Group and The Shadow Masters to Castro and wrote a dedication that said: “We will win the war when the power of the love overcomes the love of power.” Estulin’s books are published in the U.S. by TrineDay Books, the country’s largest publisher of “inconvenient truth”. Visit www.trineday.com for more information on these and many other titles.

Lt. General Russel Honoré (U.S. Army, Ret.)
Rodney Peete
Ronald W. Walters, dedicated and highly respected scholar, strategist and longtime professor of political science at Howard University and the University of Maryland was an intellectual on issues of race, public policy and civil rights. He died Friday, September 10 in a Bethesda, Maryland hospital of lung cancer at age 72. Many of his closest associates didn’t even know Walters was ill. Walters, said Democratic political strategist and commentator Donna Brazile, was “one of the most brilliant political science professors in the country. He co-authored the 1988 (Democratic National Convention) platform and rule changes.” Walters earned a bachelor’s degree in history and government from Fisk and a masters in African Studies and a Ph.D in International Studies from American University. Walters authored seven books and more than 100 academic articles and was an expert on black presidential politics, pan-Africanism and the resurgence of white conservatism. His book “Black Presidential Politics in America” won the Bunche prize. He also was a popular guest on political talk shows such as “Meet the Press” and CNN’s “Crossfire.” His strategies, which helped end the winner-take-all delegate count during primary contests – bringing Jackson in second to eventual Democratic nominee, Gov. Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts – are also credited with helping Barack Obama win the Democratic presidential nomination in 2000, paving the way for him to win the presidency.

What do an Actress, Quarterback, Educator, Entrepreneur and General have in common?
“Ron Walters was a brilliant strategist who was totally devoted to improving the plight of Africans and AfricanAmericans. He was a consistent and unapologetic voice for the voiceless. Ron was the consummate race man,” said syndicated columnist George E. Curry. But for all his accomplishments, his great passion was teaching and working with students, his wife Patricia Walters said. At their 30th wedding anniversary celebration, she said, “When he got up to speak, he called me his love and said, ‘I really have to thank this woman for letting me do my work and not complain.’ He said his work was ‘my grand passion in life, equal to my passion for her.’”

Ask God for What You Want by Bishop E. Earl Jenkins E. Earl Jenkins
Imagine walking into a restaurant on a whim and asking if your order is ready. “When did you call it in?” the server asks. “Oh I didn’t,” you reply, “I just thought perhaps you’d have something with my name on it.” Sound ridiculous? No more so than expecting God to answer requests you haven’t made — or made in faith believing. James says, “The reason you don’t have what you want is…you don’t ask God.” Does that mean He’ll automatically give you everything you ask for? No. James adds, “Even when you do ask you don’t get it because…you want only what will give you pleasure” (Jas 4:3 TLB). Your motives need to be in tune with what God knows is best for you. John says, “This is the confidence… we have in Him…if we ask anything…according to His will…He…hears” (1Jn 5:14 AMP). Lamentations 3:25 says, “The Lord is good to those who wait…expectantly for Him” (AMP). Expectant prayer demonstrates confidence in God’s goodness. Instead of fretting and taking matters into your own hands, when you say, “Lord, I’m going to trust you with this, regardless of the outcome,” He’ll honor your faith. Paul says, “Pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks” (Ph 4:6 NCV). Do you need a job? Help overcoming a problem? Salvation for your loved ones? A deeper walk with God? Physical or emotional healing? Jesus said, “It gives your Father great happiness to give you the [benefits of his] Kingdom” (Lk 12:32 NLT). God wants to be good to you, so tell Him the “desires of your heart” (Ps 37:4 NKJV). And thank Him that the answer will come – in His time! Scripture Of The Day: “The reason you don’t have what you want is…you don’task God.” James 4:2 (TLB)
Malinda Sapp’s Homegoing Service Set Funeral services for gospel singer and pastor Marvin Sapp’s wife, MaLinda, who lost her battle with cancer last week at the age of 43, are set for Thursday, September 16. Marvin Sapp and his wife were long time lovers and childhood friends that met in elementary school, and married 13 years ago. They have three children. Holding court with her husband over a thriving ministry, MaLinda learned in 2009 that she had colon cancer. After a brief period of remission, the cancer returned to claim the fragile body of this strong little woman. Parishioners at the Lighthouse Full Of Life Center Church gathered together last Thursday Sept. 9 for a prayer vigil, only to find they had gathered to mourn the passing of their pastor’s wife. The church was founded by the couple along with a small group of approximately 24 believers in 2003. By 2008, Kingdom Square had become a nearly 17 acre campus, and home to more than 1,500 active members. Page 8

Bob Marley’s family lost a lawsuit seeking the copyrights to several of the late reggae singer’s most popular recordings. A U.S. District Judge in Manhattan said the UMG Recordings unit of Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group is the rightful owner of copyrights to five albums that Marley had recorded between 1973 and 1977 for Island Records. The albums “Catch a Fire,” “Burnin’,” “Natty Dread,” “Rastaman Vibration” and “Exodus” were recorded with Marley’s band The Wailers. They include a number of Marley classics, including “Get Up, Stand Up,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “No Woman, No Cry” and “One Love.”

General admission is $25; seniors, $20 and $15 for students Directed by Lorna C. Hill, Ruined” has been hailed by critics as “A powerhouse drama. . . . intense…beautiful, hideous and unpretentiously important .” A rain forest bar and brothel in the brutally war-torn Congo is the setting for Lynn Nottage’s extraordinary new play. The establishment’s shrewd matriarch, Mama Nadi, keeps peace between customers from both sides of the civil war, as government soldiers and rebel forces alike choose from her inventory of women, many already “ruined” by rape and torture when they were pressed into prostitution. Inspired by interviews she conducted in Africa with Congo refugees, Nottage has crafted an engrossing and uncommonly human story with humor and song. Ujima continues to use theatre as a tool that addresses how the arts shape and reflect our lives; how they participate in civic conversations; and how they serve as a vehicle for social change. EDITORIALS Byron Brown, a Mayor in “Black Face” In Defense of My Daughter Karla Dear Editor: Following 16 years of Jimmy Griffin and 12 years of Tony Massello, it looked like this communities ship had finally come in with the election of Byron W. Brown as Mayor of Buffalo. Brother, were we wrong. Griffin took care of south Buffalo and Tony took care of the West-Side. However, Mr. Brown has yet to make the East-Side a priority. Brown continues to keep the black community on the back-burner, until there’s a need for them, while taking care of the “good o boys” down town. Now some of you might find the above statements are somewhat strong. But think about it, is there another major city in this country with a police chief that holds a dam G.E.D.? Or, how about the way Mayor Brown and his “Grassroots crew”, stormed into Sunday services at True Bethel, with the white man in-toe, talking about a, “Compact with the Community”. That was 3 years ago, and not a word since. Now they wish to take this communities number one son, Pastor Pridgen, and make him the Ellicott District Council Member. What Brown is missing, he may have unknowingly just selected the cities next Mayor. Keep your eye on these guys pastor and remember, you can’t serve two masters. What’s most disturbing with this mayor, is his decision making process. For example, following the “Main Street Massacre” of a few weeks ago, Brown and his high school educated police chief, thought it would be a good idea, to move police officers from the neighborhoods and send them down to Chippawa Street. Now how much since does that make? At the same time, you left black residents venerable, while insuring a safe environment for suburban patrons, as well as white businessmen down-town. Next, he took the “swat team” in to a quite neighborhood and arrested the wrong guy. Followed by, a terrorizing experience for residents of the Ferry-Grider Housing Project. Cops with guns drawn, shut down an entire neighborhoods. Going door to door while scaring the hell out seniors and young kids made no since. Can you imagine if someone had gotten hurt? Can you spell “Law Suit?” Thank god for Brother Darnell Jackson, or a killer might still be on the streets. Maybe Darnell should be considered for the cities top cop instead of the Barney Fife we have now. Lastly, what is Mr. Brown’s problem with Black women? Let’s take a look back. The cities’ first black female Deputy Mayor, Gone! Donna Brown, gone. Tonya Perrin-Johnson is MIA, until you can find a place for her. And then there’s, Karla Thomas, gone. I guess that’s what 20 years of loyal service gets you, FIRED! You want more? If Brown would have supported Janet Ogden last year, she would be a Erie County Court Judge today. You want even more? Brown turned his back on the late Beverly Gray, and never gave Police Officer Horn, a second thought in terms of support. As well as circulated petitions against Betty Grant just last year, and the list goes on At this rate, the only people left in the hall will be all white men, Oz and Otis Barker. However the biggest slap in the face of all, our black Mayor supported Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama for President of these United States. (On a side note, let’s take a moment to thank State Assembly Crystal Peoples and NY State Senator Antoine Thompson for bringing the first $10 pack of cigarettes from Albany to WNY). When they say that deliver, they mean it. - Note to Ms Peoples, You seem to have lost your voice since being elected to the NY State Assembly. I can only hope you find it. The black community could sure use it. As for Senator Thompson, I hope that “Insurance Scam” works out for you. You deserve it. Dear Mr. Brown, here are some suggestions I believe you should take to heart. If you want to get rid of some people, start with Maurice Garner and “Massa Steve Casey”. These guys are a cancer around your neck, and they are killing you slowly. I believe if you take a good look at how they have served you, you will see they have not served in your best interest at all. They continue to divide and isolate you, from the very people that got you elected. Second, when the 4 young people lost their lives at the City Grill, 3 other young men also lost their lives the very same weekend. (Sattler Street, Durham Ave and Cambridge Street) 7 young lives lost in one weekend. This should be priority one! This summer has been hot in more ways than one. Buffalo’s Black community has a better than 50% unemployment rate. You can expect more shootings unless you begin to deal with this very important issue. BMHA has a Contract compliance position, which has been open for more than a year and a half. Included in this position, along with Obama’s “stimulus money” is a component that insures community and neighborhood hiring. Fill the position and get some of the Brothers off the streets. Years ago, we talked about doing great things on buffalo’s east-side, as well as all of Buffalo once you got elected Mayor. Get back to your real roots and make them happen. You still have an opportunity to do great things. Stop POLITICKING and start GOVERNING. What the east-side needs is a leader. The question is, are you one? A lot of people had great hope with your election. Most of them, you have “kicked to the curb”. Focus on the opportunity before you! Clarence Lott Jr. Former Resident, Grassroots Member and friend

Dear Editor, My name is Blanche Thomas. I am 89 years old. Karla L. Thomas is my daughter. When my husband of 70 years passed away last year, the pride in our three children was the only thing that got me through. Karla has been in this politics and community stuff all of her life. Her uncle and my youngest brother, is Luther Burnette, one of the founders of Juneteenth. He and I were very active members of Core and B.U.I.L.D. back in the day. Karla has stood shoulder to shoulder with Byron for over twenty years and I know they care about each other. I may not understand all that’s going on cause I don’t hear that good any more, but I do know my child is under fire and when that happens, I’m going to help. We need to support Karla just like we did Mayor Brown when he was in trouble with these same mean people with his re-election last year. I’m asking ALL mothers in this community who have ever had a child in trouble to support mine like Karla has probably supported theirs. Please all you registered voters in Buffalo, go to Karla’s hearing on Thursday or call the Mayor’s hotline 311 and tell him you don’t want Karla Thomas fired. What happened here I don’t believe is fair. She’s a good person and qualified to do her job. I know because I raised her and the apple don’t fall too far from the tree. -Mrs. Blanche Thomas
Outraged by City Grill Article Dear Editor: As a resident of Buffalo New York I am not only appalled by the article in the Buffalo News written by T.J. Pignataro, I am bothered by the fact that he would even venture into the victims past in an attempt to connect the dots as to why these people were murdered. He should be ashamed of himself for such a senseless story. And just to think, I once welcomed this writer into my home to interview me and put a story together regarding the murder of my brother and how I’ve worked with young African American men since his death in an attempt to help my community. It has me to wonder, was he really there for me and my positive influence as an African American or was he there for the sake of getting “his story? As a news staff reporter I understand that his job is to bring forth light to such tragedies (as the City Grill Massacre) in the City of Buffalo and I can even understand his need to cover both sides of a story for the sake of having balance, but what I can’t understand is the importance of putting together a story about the decedent’s criminal past. To further assassinate a group of people that were already executed publicly, is heartless. A much more interesting story would be, why did it take the Buffalo Police Department so long to arrive at the homicide scene when their headquarters is just within walking distance?? Or better yet, why are my tax dollars being wasted on patrol cars that are parked on Chippewa Avenue doing absolutely nothing?? Or what about this, why was a 911 caller placed on hold the night of the shooting?? Or what about the grand finale of them all, the murderer had been allowed an extra week to roam freely because of these bumbling idiots we’ve entrusted to protect us all!! The stories that The Buffalo News has continued to print are reckless and nothing short of disrespectful. First there was Dan Herbeck and Jay Rey reporting that an unnamed source stated to them that at least 40% of the participants were drug dealers or gang bangers and then Pignataro digging into the past lives of the deceased.... at what point does the scope of this reporting turn toward the person that committed this crime?? Has apprehending him, become secondary?? Any new leads on his whereabouts?? In ending I say this, an unnamed source of mine tells me that 99% of The News staff are racists and Pignataro is not among the 1% that isn’t. It’s amazing how Buffalo’s own Patrick Kane’s criminal past disappeared once he hoisted that Stanley Cup Trophy over his head.... while those four victims criminal past reappeared once they were laid to rest. You should be ashamed.... Aaron Jackson
Family of Thelka McCall Says Thank You Dear Editor: I wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for your words of comfort in memory of our wonderful mother. It is during times like these when our faith and friendships shine like a beacon in the night. Needless to say the words of many of those old great hymns run constantly in my mind. Even now I can hear that old Negro classic “well we’re moving on up (moving on up) to the east side (‘moving on up) to a deluxe apartment in the sky. Yeah we’re moving on up to the east side; we’ve finally got apiece of the pie” I see you know the song! On July 7 our mother left this ghetto and moved to a new neighborhood with a swanky new deluxe place in the Jesus Christ subdivision on Well Done Good and Faithful Servant Blvd. Jesus promised “let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am there you may be also”. I believe! Yet often times our expressions of comfort don’t celebrate this promise. We say they’re in a better place like we don’t mean it, when they really are! Ok my mom moved to Maui (sometimes
called paradise) to an all expense paid resort for the rest of her eternal life and my big brother Jesus picked up the tab, now that is a different view but not a better one!`We choose to look in the rear view mirror of this world instead of the window shield of God’s provision. Rejoice! When my mother left this world she was found sifting on the couch in our living room, pointing to the ceiling and eyes wide open with a smile on her
face! Wow I can only imagine what she saw. George Jefferson’s cleaners got him to his deluxe apartment so does the blood that cleans sin but in a much, much nicer neighborhood. In closing, the side mirror has a message printed on it just for you “objects are closer than they appear.” Pie anyone? May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. -The Family,Dewayne, Deborah and Sabrina

Reflections on the McCray Surrender and You Can’t Stop the Violence in Ghetto Streets What To Do If You Are Stopped Why People are Reluctant to Witness for the Without Stopping the Violence in Iraq, By The Police Police… Afghanistan and Elsewhere
W
hy are people reluctant to witness for the police? Just look what happen to me when I accompanied Riccardo McCray to turn himself in. He was being sought in the City Grill shooting that left four innocent people dead and four wounded, but insists that he did not do it. On one hand law enforcement asks for help, but when certain people help they end up getting targeted. In every bushel there’s always one or a few bad DARNEL apples, if the police JACKSON would attack me on camera for no reason, what would they do off camera? I was standing in my front yard a few Tuesdays ago when I was approached by a group of about four youths who asked if they could they talk to me . I was told that McCray who was being sought by over four different police agencies for questioning about the City Grill shooting, and that he wanted to get to the police for questioning . I agreed to turn him in. It was suppose to happen the next morning around 9am that Wednesday. I set up what I needed or thought was the best way to turn him over without incident, but they didn’t call, so after waiting for a few hours, went about my daily activities. But at around 1 p.m. that afternoon I was approached again by the same individuals who asked me to follow them to an undisclosed location. I then called Bishop Perry Davis to accompany me to talk with the young brother McCray. Bishop and I rode in my car following the other vehicle with the other men in it. Once we arrived at the location two young men came out and approached our car and called him on a cell phone. The young man then expressed concerns about turning himself over to the Buffalo Police, so I called a lawyer as a back as well as Channel 4 News’ Rich Newburg ( who I had previously set up the surrender with). I convinced him that I would make sure that he would be protected and given advice from the lawyer as of his rights and be filmed by Channel 4 to let the community know that he was not hurt or armed. After 15 minutes he was convinced that I was a man of my word and would guarantee his safety as we went to Channel 4 I called the lawyer who had also gotten on with his daily duties. We arrived at the station first, so we had to wait on the lawyer to get there. Rich told me he wouldn’t call the police until the attorney arrived, but the station manager called the police right away, and they got there before the lawyer . While Rich was asking some questions, the police were waiting in the hallway for around 10-20 minutes. Mr. McCray kept asking would if he would be alright in police custody. I made it clear that September 15, 2010
he would that’s why the lawyer was called into play. Rich suggested that maybe we should call the office of US Attorney William J. Hochul. I agreed to that. Once we were able to get in contact with Mr. Houchel, he said that he would have me talk to the FBI agent that was assigned to the task force looking for Mr. McCray when the agent called me back and told me he was sending the FBI over to pick up McCray to make sure he was protected. Rich relayed the update to the homicide officers, but they in turn they made a call to higher ups or DA Frank Sedita, who in return told them to get McCray downtown in Buffalo Police custody . That’s when they came in and I asked them if they could wait two more minutes for the lawyer was around the corner. This is when the one police officer told me to get out the way or he have me arrested and pushed me from behind. It was seen by countless viewers on television. Would this have happen if I was a clergy or politician? There was no reason for him to act like that except he figured I stopped him from arresting McCray on the streets so he could do whatever he planned to do, that’s my opinion. If he acted like that on camera how does this officer act off camera? I’m pressing charges or filing a complaint on the officer. That’s why I feel I was personally targeted for arrest which I believe will come out in court in the near future. I also question why the police kept saying not to put McCray’s picture out over the news or in the paper, but the same police officer was putting his picture out in the Black community . I also questioned the Police Commissioner about that, but still no response. It doesn’t make sense to me how about you? Was there a plan to get Mc Cray before he could be turned in by someone like me? Do they Have the right guy this time? There’s all types of questions that need to be answered. I feel in my spirit 8that I helped all sides of the situation. It could have turned out to be a bad ending, like McCray being killed by police or one of the families that was killed or assaulted supposedly by him . What if he was armed and refused to be taken alive and had a shootout and more people got killed? Is that what the community wanted or is that how the police wanted it? What if one or more police officers were killed trying to bring him in? How would their families feel? What if it happen to you on your family next? The violence hasn’t stopped. Who’s child will be next? Who will the police assault next ? Will it be you? There’s no question in my mind that I’m targeted by the police, mayor and district attorneys office. None of them thanked me for my role in McCray’s surrender. How can the police commissioners or mayor allow this type of conduct by any of their officers? If I done that to him I would have been charged with assault on a police officer. Afterwards, I was hit with some
By Bruce A. Dixon Part II - Conclusion When did Black political leaders forget the connection between the three legs of Dr. King’s political philosophy --- racial justice, economic justice and opposition to militarism, empire and war? What function are black preacher-politicians fulfilling when they tell us the biggest problem in our communities is a supposed “epidemic if violence” for which our broken lives, spirits and families are themselves to blame. Who is refusing to look the devil and his details in the eye, and why? “Before there was an epidemic of ghetto violence, there was an epidemic withdrawal of the manufacturing and other jobs which drew our grandparents and great grandparents up from the rural south in the first place. There were epidemics of neighborhood school closings, epidemics of free and low-cost medical care cutbacks, and epidemics of privatization of public resources. “ It’s only by erasing and ignoring the connection between trillion dollar giveways to Wall Street banksters and unlimited funding for imperial war that a sensible person can pin the cause of an “epidemic of violence” in poor communities to some ethical or moral shortcomings of people who live there. in morally deficient ghetto neighborhoods amid exhortations to residents to “clean themselves up” first begin to make a kind of sense. You’ll never hear this kind of opportunist preacher-politician tell his megachurch audience that for $600 or $700 million, a fraction of what the govern-
trumped up charges and upon my attorney’s advice, turned myself me at 5 in the morning. I was held in lockup till 3p.m. the evening. My paper work got missing - that was their way of punishing me but God is good. I got a chance to talk to the men who were locked up. Hopefully my spirit and conversation gave them hope and inspiration. Sometimes we don’t understand why we go through the fire, but I believe God is using me to get some of His work done, and that he is with me: No weapon formed against me shall prosper. As long as God is with me how can I lose? I’ve learned to let go and let God. I trust God 100% for real. We need to pack the courtroom on my next court appearance. I’ll let you know the date. Just keeping it real … (Community activist Darnell Jackson Sr. can be reached at 570-9165 . ment gave Bank of America a few months ago, all the student loan debt in the country could be redeemed. Similarly this kind of Black preacher-politician will never mention that the cost of running the Afghan war for three hours would erase the deficit from one big-city (Chicago or the Bay Area) transit authority along with those of half a dozen medium sized cities like Birmingham, Oklahoma City, or Savannah. This is the kind of black misleader that leads prayer vigils to “stop the violence” on ghetto streets, while adamantly refusing to look the real devils and their details in the eye. Pretending that a “stop the violence” campaign addresses the root causes of violence in poor black communities is an active and pernicious distraction from the real causes of that violence. The well-researched and wellestablished fact is that crime, mental illness, imprisonment, family instability, disease, maternal and infant mortality all correlate to the level of inequality in any modern human society. The United States is the most unequal society on earth, and its large cities are where the gaps between the very richest and the very poorest, who are disproportionately nonwhite, are greatest. Before there was an epidemic of ghetto violence, there was an epidemic withdrawal of the manufacturing and other jobs which drew our grandparents and great grandparents up from the rural south in the first place. There were epidemics of neighborhood school closings, epidemics of free and low-cost medical care cutbacks, and epidemics of privatization of public resources. There is a longstanding epidemic of disproportionate black mass incarceration, combined with widespread legal and social sanctions on convicted felons which has become perhaps the principal mechanism for locking millions of black Americans into poverty for another generation. These are some of the epidemics that the current crop of black misleaders like our ghetto preacherpolitician building their careers upon ignoring. It’s time we spent a little more energy ignoring them, their blame-the-victim philosophies, their dead-end politics and their avoidance of the connection between the violence and poverty in our communities and the rivers of cash that keep flowing to Wall Street and to war. I think that’s what I’ll tell the next person who mentions the asinine National Guard proposal of that preacher politician in Chicago. The October 2010 issue of Ebony Magazine presents important advice for young people who find themselves stopped by the police. In the article, “What to Do If You are Stopped by the Police,” author Terry Glover suggests that every young man and every young woman read and keep a copy of the guidelines developed by the National Association for Black Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. (NABLEO) The guidelines, simple and concise, could make the difference between being stopped by the police and suffering more severe consequences. NABLEO suggests: While Driving Your Car * The best thing to do is simply pull over and sit tight • If you are stopped at night, turn on your interior lights and show them that nothing is wrong. • Do and say nothing that would give the officer an excuse to search your vehicle, keep your hands in plain sight and produce your identification when asked. • If there are others in the vehicle, ask them to remain clam. When Walking/Standing on the Street * Remember, they think they have a good reason (probable cause) to stop you and ask questions. There are many factors that a police officer takes into consideration and every situation is different. They may thing you have done something wrong if: * You are acting in a way that appears very suspicious and you act even more so when they see that you have spotted them. • They think you have stolen property in possession. • You refuse to answer simple questions, give false or evasive answers, make contradictory statements. • You immediately start bad-mouthing or cursing at them. You Have Rights (But so do the Police) The police have the right to ask for your identification when they stop you. • If they find something seriously wrong, they may have the right to search your vehicle. If your movements make them feel that you are hiding something on your person that may cause them harm, they may also have the right to subject you to a “frisk” for weapons. • You have the right to know what you are being stopped for and whether you will be issued a citation or placed under arrest. • You also have a right to know the officer’s name and badge or unit number. “The 2010 annual gatherings of both the NAACP and the Urban League saw the issue of law enforcement encounters again highlights a topic of paramount importance to the survival and safe passage of our youth,” writes Glover.

Community members held a vigil for a man who was gunned down in broad daylight on East Ferry Street Community members held a vigil for a man who was gunned down in broad daylight on East Ferry Street Friday afternoon. Sources said that the victim could be connected to Riccardo McCray who is a suspect in the City Grill shooting that took the lives of four people last month. Sources also said the death of this man could be in retaliation for that mass shooting. Now, people are remembering the most recent victim with a vigil, while also pleading with the community to help make the violence stop. Bishop Perry Davis founder of the Stop the Violence Foundation said they started the vigil with a prayer. “Today we come out to pray for the victim and the victim’s family of Friday’s shooting,” Davis said. Bishop Perry Davis said they are also praying to stop the violence across the Queen City. “All these senseless killings in Buffalo. We have to continue praying and ask God to changes things. It’s getting ridiculous,” Davis said. But Davis said it’s going to take prayer and much more, including communication. “A lot of people know what’s going to happen before it happens. So, if you have an open line of communication maybe we can prevent this from happening,” Davis said. But other community leaders including Pastor Jenny Davis said it has to be a city-wide effort to make any kind of positive change. “If we join in as a community together and bind together a city wide revival has to hit Buffalo. I’m talking about all the church leaders, all the police departments, all under one umbrella and just bring calm to the city of Buffalo,” Davis said. Until everyone comes together, Davis said he will continue working to make people aware of these tragedies and what the communities must do to make a change. “We want to instill in our children now before it’s too late, that you can’t just go out kill each other,” Davis said.
Dear Eve: I have a secret that I have held for more than 30 years. I was engaged to one guy (I’ll call him George), but I had dated Bob (not his name) just about 3 months before I married George. I didn’t know at the time that I was pregnant by Bob. Bob was sent overseas, so he couldn’t know and I couldn’t reach him. Nevertheless to avoid a scandal, when my son was born, I gave him George’s last name. It was my last name too. I have not told my son yet George had no knowledge of this when he died in a bad car accident on my son’s 18th birthday. Not too long ago, I heard from a mutual friend that Bob lives not too far from me. I’d like to see Bob again. Should I tell him? Or should I leave it alone? I certainly hope that he will remember. It was so long ago. I can’t say it isn’t on my mind, because it definitely stays on it. When you answer this letter, please don’t mention ray name. So Far It Is Still My Secret Dear Secret so Far: Ironically, I have received a couple of other letters that believe-it-ornot - are quite similar. All of which are profound secrets. A secret is definitely - a secret. Why would you want to reveal it especially since you have held it for more than 30 years? Suppose Bob doesn’t remember! Suppose he doesn’t believe you! Suppose your son doesn’t believe you either! What then? Why not let it die within you? In the bible, there are many passages on the subject. Proverbs 11:13 reads: A talebearer revealeth secrets, but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. Page 16
Hispanic Heritage Month kick-off celebration The official launch of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations will take place this year at the Buffalo & Erie County Library in downtown Buffalo on September 15, 2010. The ceremony will begin at 12pm in the library (Circle of Knowledge) and will host several community figures, guitar playing, salsa dancing performances and presentations from students of the Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy. Several Hispanic Community Organizations will also offer displays, posters, and craft items from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 15th as part of the celebration. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. Events will be taking place around the Western New York Area to celebrate this month. More information on events can be located at: http://www.visitbuffaloniagara.com/visitors/itineraries/Latino.asp The Hispanic Community and the Buffalo & Erie County Library invites everyone to attend this event and celebrate Hispanic Heritage and Culture.

Black Unempmloyment : A Human Rights Violation? The nation-wide suffering for African Americans has just intensified with the recent unemployment data delivered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It’s most recent report showed that while White unemployment only went up from 8.6 percent to 8.7 percent, Black unemployment went up from 15.6 percent to 16.3 percent. This increase is at a rate that is 700 percent higher than the increase for White Americans. The numbers tell an interesting and sad story about the forgotten economic hardships being felt by Black people all across America. First, Back unemployment is nearly double that of White Americans. While the rest of America finds itself screaming in pain over unemployment rates between eight and nine percent, black America is asked to remain silent about unemployment rates as high as 15 - 16 percent. While U.S. government officials are not acknowledging African American economic hardship, the United Nations is.
