At the Small Business Forum hosted in Brenham on June 7, two local businesses received a prestigious honor, having been selected as Washington County’s Small Businesses of the Year for 2017. The Small Business Forum featured an impressive line-up of informative speakers and exhibitors, and there was a crowd of over 100. Awards were presented by the Washington County, Burleson County and Grimes County Chambers. In Washington County, the first award (business size 1-25) was presented to Independence Coffee Company. Owners Ragan and Christi Bond were present, along with many of their staff. (Independence Coffee has graciously donated their coffee to this event for the past two years.)

Independence Coffee gives generously to many local organizations in the community including Adam’s Angels–Serving Families Who Face Childhood Cancer, The Baylor Park Project, The Simon Theatre Project, and Brenham High School Special Needs Program. Their involvement doesn’t stop with donations to good causes. Geiger Press Tour continues to generate publicity

Tourism News

Valuable publicity for Brenham and Washington County results each year from articles that travel writers produce after visiting our area on press tours conducted by Geiger & Associates PR agency. The Chamber-CVB last hosted a tour in November 2015. The most recent article resulting from that tour is a 10-page feature about Washington County in the April issue of Texas Highways. According to Geiger PR officials, the advertising equivalency for that amount of space in Texas Highways totals nearly $75,000. If you haven’t seen the article, call us at the Visitor Center and we can email you a PDF to read (979-836-3696).

of December 29 for submissions. Entries must include a completed contest entry form, an 8x10 color image of each entry and a CD or flash drive containing the image in high resolution. After the contest period closes, a group of judges will select three winning entries that will receive cash prizes. Contest entry forms are posted online and may also be picked up at the Chamber office or at the Visitor Center.

On Friday, June 16, enjoy the Juneteenth Annual Concert in Fireman’s Park in Brenham, featuring live performances beginning at 8 pm. Admission is free. In this hilarious comedy by the author of Lend Me A Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo, two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves down on their luck. When they hear that an old lady in York, Pennsylvania, is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. But when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces! Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady’s vivacious niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there’s a wide world out there, but it’s not until she meets “Maxine and Stephanie” that she finally gets a taste of it. Performances run through June 18th.
