I would like to take this opportunity to thank one and all for attending this evening and supporting the third British Demolition Awards. This after two date changes, COVID regulations coming into play and some parts of the industry reluctant to commit to an event, which, as I completely understand, could well have been cancelled. Well we made it here, a little more intimate perhaps, but nonetheless hopefully the event that you, like us, waited over a year for. You have all contributed to making tonight possible; good luck to all entrants, and have a brilliant time.

WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THe industry The British Demolition Awards was an idea formulated by publisher Ben Chambers and his team nearly four years ago while working in print and digital marketing and promotion for the demolition industry. Ben’s vision was an all-encompassing and open annual industry event allowing the UK and wider demolition industry to celebrate the successes of and to promote British demolition.

Our story ... SO FAR
The inaugural British Demolition Awards was held in 2018 at the prestigious Belfry in Sutton Coldfield and was replicated 12 months later in the heart of Manchester. More than two years on from that event, having had both cancellations and delays due to COVID, we are all set for the third staging of the British Demolition
Awards, this time at the magnificent American Express Community Stadium here on the south coast. With the addition of a dedicated award promoting the asbestos industry, and the backing of the well-established bimonthly Demolition Hub magazine, this promises to be the best awards yet, albeit with due consideration to the post-COVID world.

Your mc for the evening, introducing Mike shaft Mike Shaft is an award-winning TV and radio broadcaster based in the north west of England. He has broadcast for BBC Radio Manchester, Jazz FM, and many other independent radio outlets, presenting shows of all types, but he is particularly associated with soul music. On television, he was a host on BBC1’s Open Air, has been a regular contributor to BBC Breakfast, presented ITV’s One World and had a cameo on Coronation Street interviewing Alec and Bet Gilroy at the Rover’s Return. As well as music, Mike has an interest in sport, having been lead basketball commentator for Sky TV, covered the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada and performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Mike is a practicing Christian and now presents the Sunday morning breakfast show on BBC Radio Manchester. In 2017 this won the 2017 Jerusalem Award for Best Radio Strand.

Mick Miller provides the laughs Mick Miller has had a long and successful career stretching over 40 years. He first came to prominence on the iconic ITV show, The Comedians along with British TV favourites Roy Walker and Stan Boardman. He also made guest appearances on 3, 2, 1, Seaside Special and Blankety Blank (with his good friend Les Dawson). Live theatre tours and summer season shows followed. In the 1980s Mick co-hosted his own Saturday evening show on ITV called The Funny Side along with Cheryl Baker and the late Mike Smith. Mick recently fulfilled a lifetime ambition to work in Las Vegas when he was chosen to be part of the major ITV series Last Laugh in Vegas. Since then he has been in constant demand on the theatre circuit, working throughout the UK and in global venues. We are delighted to have Mick as our comedic entertainment for the evening.
