When looking at some of the greatest swings in golf, you can see and hear how important body rotation is. However, there’s a crucial piece most amateurs are missing, the shift/ guide on the downswing. We often see golfers turning on the backswing while trying to rotate too hard on the forward swing. This form has become a bit of a “fad” throughout the internet lately. If taken to the extreme, it can really goof up your golf swing.
The best players in the world move their hips 2.5”-3” forward on their downswing. Doing so, plays a huge role in having a low point allowing the club to interact with the turf. So, it’s important to remember; coil on backswing, shift to start downswing, THEN rotate for improved ball striking.

As we enter a period of reduced daylight and cooler temperatures, the bermudagrass will start to enter dormancy. To maintain the health of our greens prior to the cessation of grass growth, it is essential to increase the height of cut on the greens. This adjustment will provide a robust turf base capable of withstanding cold temperatures and foot traffic.
To address the challenges posed by winter, we have implemented a winter hole location policy. While our standard practice is to change the cups daily throughout the season, the plugs do not recover during this time. As a result, we maintain three cups on most greens and rotate these locations on a daily basis. We are preparing to implement another pigment application on the fairways in the imminent future. The paint application on the fairways is anticipated to begin just before the Christmas holidays. We are in the final stages of the preemergent applications for winter annual weeds. However, our progress has been delayed due to the ongoing hurricane cleanup and the limited options for products that are safe for use in the resurfaced areas.
By Wednesday, November 27, all tasks related to the resurfacing of turf areas affected by the hurricane will be finalized for the season. Work will resume next summer. The concrete path project has been completed for now. There are additional areas planned for improvement, which will also take place next summer.
With all work now completed, we intend to apply a new layer of pine needles to our landscape beds in December. The internal labor costs amount to $47,746.61. We have replaced sod covering an area of 294,250 square feet on the course. Additionally, 2,135 tons of bunker sand have been added to the bunkers. To grade and level areas affected by tree damage, we utilized 73 truckloads of fill dirt. Furthermore, we have replaced concrete over an area of 28,500 square feet.
The overseeded surface has been successfully established at the club grounds, practice facility, and tee areas of the golf course. Over the next few weeks, we will enhance the mowing frequency as we aim to lower the height of the cut.
Every November, on the Friday prior to Thanksgiving, our staff celebrates the conclusion of the golf season by holding a potluck meal, where each individual brings a dish to share with the group. This year, we enjoyed brisket, ham, and turkey, complemented by various casseroles and desserts. After the meal, we hosted a cornhole tournament for our team.
On November 30th, eight of our seasonal team members will return for El Salvador. Their support since March has been immensely helpful, with an average of 55 hours worked per week by each individual. We will miss them greatly, yet we look forward to their potential return next year. As we move ahead, our operations will be conducted with a much smaller team.
