The speed of change has been exciting if not at times quite scary. The key to all this has been investment, over the past 12 years All White Taxis have invested well over £1/2 million in new technology and what delighted us was how the people of Southport have taken to it. First it was ring back then came text back but the thing that really changed our business was Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) what a great piece of kit. IVR allows our customers to book a taxi without speaking to one of our team. It recognises static numbers, houses, venues and with a mobile number it will give you an option of

your 3 most popular pickups or if you wish to speak to a member of staff just press 9 on your phone. IVR also allows customers to check on the status of their booking. This technology has allowed us to grow as a company and we now take over ½ Million bookings this way. The new kid on the block is definitely APPS our world now is dominated by APP technology and the taxi industry is no different. Smartphone touch screens

have changed our lives and are also changing our industry. All White Taxis first introduced a booking APP in 2011, the first taxi company to do so in this region. In October 2014 we commissioned a new APP that is feature rich, the new APP allows customers to book their Taxi, shows them the current availability of vehicles, gives a GPS fix so you can be picked up at that location. It also has a Home Feature for those occasions when you are not too sure where you live. The APP has some nice security features, the customer will receive a text message when the vehicle arrives it will tell the customer the make model, colour and reg number so you know you are getting in the correct vehicle. There is also a Buddy feature which allows parents, friends or colleagues to receive the same information as the customer. It will even allow them to track the progress of that vehicle on their own phones in real time, so they know exactly where and what time they have been dropped off. Queenscourt Hospice has always been All White Taxis charity of choice, so when we introduced our new APP at the end of last year we decided to make a donation to Queenscourt for every completed APP booking during 2015. How much we end up donating is down to the good people of Southport, so TAP THE APP and make a difference. During 2015 All White Taxis will be

introducing Chip & Pin in all our vehicles. We have been taking debit and credit card payments in our vehicles since 2010 but the new Chip & Pin machines should make the process easier and quicker for both customers and drivers. With the introduction of Chip & Pin we have taken out all the traditional taxi meters and have replaced them with GPS fare calculator, which appears on the drivers hand set and is clearly visable to the customers. By introducing this it will allow the Chip & Pin machine and hand set to transfer data via Bluetooth so when the customer pays by card the fare on the handset is transferred to the Chip & Pin without any input by the driver. The fare calculator starts when the customer gets in and the driver presses POB on his handset all our fares start at £1.40 and all button presses by the driver are recorded on a log of that job. The past 12 years have been an interesting journey for the current custodians of All White Taxis. They are now the largest taxi company in Southport and do more than a Million journeys a year and we know we don’t always get it right, but it is not for the want of investment or effort. As he told The Champion, the success The Hungry Monk has had since it burst onto the bar and restaurant scene has only encouraged him and his team to launch a major revival in the town centre. “As well as giving people a place where they can come, enjoy great food, a wonderful atmosphere and live entertainment at The Monk, we now want to offer more which is why we’ve launched Jasper’s Gifts. “It’s a great shop and it’s already proving to be incredibly popular. Lots have people have been coming in and buying gifts for family and friends – as well as taking advantage of our great bath bomb range which I’m sure is a much needed treat for themselves! “We want to transform Cambridge Arcade and bring the empty shops back to life – we won’t be stopping with Jasper’s and have a lot of exciting projects lined up.” Over the road at The Hungry Monk it is very much business as usual with customers flocking to take advantage of one of the many entertainment nights coming up. Frank Sinatra’s O’l Blue Eyes tribute promises to have the nostalgia flowing on the day after on August 29 and for just £10 per ticket the Monk hosts a comedy night with three amazing comedians, one of which made it to the Britain’s Got Talent final on Sunday August 30! Kay B Music – Fitness – Dance is all about keeping fit and having fun. Kay herself is passionate about dance and has long believed that being fit does not always have to be a lonely pursuit in a gym somewhere. The business opened in Southport in January 2014. Kay had previously launched a similar venture in Costa Brava between 2004 and 2013. “In Spain, I started with Ballroom and Latin then, as trends changed, I went on to teach Line dance. In 2011 I became the first licensed Zumba instructor in the area and people loved it. I was thrilled to finally combine both my love of Latin dance with fitness.” It was around then that Kay developed her own very unique fitness class for the over Fifties, “LadyFit”. As if that was not enough Kay also launched her very special Latin dance classes “Solo Latino”. Kay really believes that keeping fit is not just for able bodied people and added chair based exercise classes for those with limited mobility as well as daily Aqua Gym classes. In short, Kay tried to offer a fitness solution for any level and age. “What I do is all about ‘feel good’ I want people to look forward to my classes and while I work within people’s abilities, I really aim at participants reaching goals and feeling fulfilled each time.
