He Was Tortured For Me

Pain is common to all men, old and young, rich, and poor, educated and illiterate. The problem of evil is the most baffling of philosophy. It is not my purpose today to discuss the philosophy of neither pain nor attempt to give a solution to the problem of evil. My lesson is simply this: Jesus in His final hours of passion leading up to His death suffered every known kind of pain: physical, mental, and spiritual. No other could suffer nor has suffered as He did. He paid the supreme painful penalty of all the sins of the entire human race. For a few minutes, let us analyze His suffering and relate it to man generally. In the realm of bodily pain there are five types of physical suffering. 1. Concussion -- caused by being hit violently from without or by

internal pressure within. 2. Laceration -- when the flesh is cut and torn. 3. Penetration -- when the skin and joints are opened by sharp prodding. 4. Perforation -- when holes are opened by the pressure from external objects. 5. Incision -- when cuts are made into the skin and muscles by sharp instruments. Jesus suffered all five of these physical wounds. He was the victim of concussion, for He was struck, hit, slapped, and struck about by an angry, bloodthirsty, murderous mob. Jesus was lacerated by steel thongs at the end of the scourging whip. This Roman instrument of brutal design would tear the flesh in a hundred places at every vicious stroke. It would leave the flesh white and quivering, drained of blood. Jesus suffered the third type of bodily pain produced by penetration. A cruel crown of thorns was pushed and pounded into His holy brow. These sharp thorns were two inches long, straight, and strong and as sharp as needles. They were

From the Editor pressed into His skin, His temples, and His veins. Blood spurted out and ran down His wonderful face. Jesus also endured the physical suffering of perforation. Great spikes were driven through the tender palms of His clean hands and through the tendons of His guiltless feet. And finally, Jesus suffered the fifth kind of physical pain - incision. The sharp spear not only penetrated His side but sliced it open until both water and blood flowed down His body, staining the cross and dripping to the ground. Do you get the awful picture? There Jesus hangs between two thieves, suffering physically the combined five kinds of bodily anguish, concussion, laceration, penetration, perforation, and incision. But strange as it may seem, His bodily, physical suffering was the least painful. It was His mental anguish that shook Jesus to His inner depths. Psychologists and psychiatrists call mental illnesses shocks. In

brief, a trauma is an emotional hurt causing extreme intellectual grief. There are three main kinds resulting from three chief causes: 1. Loneliness -- to be left to oneself and deprived of social communion with others is one of the main causes of mental distress. 2. Misunderstanding -- this is acute when related to enemies but becomes unbearably severe when applied to friends. 3. Rejection -- here is the peak of mental anguish. To be rejected as undesired by others and undesirable by society is the zenith of possible intellectual distress. Jesus was an acute Sufferer of all these three types of sufferings. He experienced loneliness. His friends forsook Him. His disciples fled and even God seemed to leave Him. Hear Him cry out in anguish, "My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?" Jesus also passed through the secSee TORTURED on Page

A New Identity: A Unique Consecration

Acts beyond the call of duty are always inspired by a supreme devotion to a great cause. It is in such moments that the finest in man is manifest. The basic law of life is that one finds his best when he gives himself to the best. Jesus gave us this truth when He declared, "He that finds his life shall lose it, but he that loses his life. shall find it." It is in giving that we find and in losing that we gain. Those that are remembered are those that have given. Numberless examples of unselfish sacrifice dot the pages of history. In our daily lives, it is possible that the more painful, dangerous experiences God permits us to go through may be a yardstick of God's

love for us and our love for Him. "Whom the Lord loves, He chastens," Paul declared. In the great spiritual warfare, millions of men have died as martyrs to the cause of Christ. Such heroism requires supreme consecration. The giving of oneself to the Kingdom means a cross, a discipline and a suffering. It indicates the willingness to lose personal pleasures, financial gains, and popular acclaim for the Master. He must be Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all. Jonathan Edwards, one of America's greatest ministers and philosophers, when only nineteen years of age made his life's commitment and wrote it down. It is dated January 12, 1723. Here it is, "I made a solemn dedication of myself to God and wrote it down; giving up myself and all I had to God, to be for the future in no respect my own; to act as one that had no right to himself in any respect; and solemnly vowed to take God for my whole portion and felicity, looking on nothing else as any part of my happiness, nor acting as if it were; and his law for the constant rule of my obedience, engaging to fight with all my might against the world, the flesh, and the devil, to the end of my life." C. T. Studd, one of the great contemporary Christians, made a unique consecration. He said he died to the appeals of the world and "acted as though he were dead." Therefore, he said, "Nothing that happens to me matters." He was wholly alive to Christ and the Kingdom and completely dead to the things of the world and Satan. Susanna Wesley, the great mother of John and Charles, the founders of Methodism, once wrote to John regarding his consecration what has become a classic declaration. "Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off your relish of spiritual things; whatever increases the authority of your body over your mind, that to you is sin." TORTURED Continued from Page 3 ond type of trauma, misunderstanding. He was a mystery to His friends and an irrational zealot to His enemies. But Jesus also suffered the third and worst type of mental distress -- He was rejected. This kind of suffering is terrific. He was rejected by His own people, the Jews. He was rejected by society and finally by His friends and even His disciples. Peter even gave up and fled. He denied Him and rejected Him at the court scene -- but Jesus gave him that tender, compassionate glance. Jesus was betrayed by Judas, His treasurer and trusted friend. And the form of his treason was a kiss, the highest expression of love -- but now a kiss of death. Jesus was rejected. So, in the mental realm Jesus suffered all three distresses: loneliness, misunderstanding, and rejection all rolled into one. But as terrible as were the physical and mental wounds, those of the spirit were worst of all. Jesus carried the combined sins of all men. They pressed in and crushed Him. His spiritual heart was broken, and

it affected His physical heart so that the elastic sac surrounding this organ was broken and out poured blood and water. In the garden before His crucifixion, He sweats great drops of blood. So, in His awful passion, Jesus' blood was watery and His sweat was bloody. Yes, "He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities." Physically Jesus endured all types of bodily wounds: concussion, laceration, penetration, perforation, and incision. He suffered the three mental wounds: loneliness, misunderstanding, and rejection. And in addition, His soul was distressed by the sins of the race -yours and mine. Yes. "He was wounded for me, wounded for me; there on the cross, He was wounded for me." I pray that, I will never lose sight of this authentic love for me and for all who call Him Lord and Savior! A mere thank you is just not enough. He died for us; shouldn’t we live for Him? The Purpose Of Life By Anne Manning

God created mankind primarily because He desired to have a family. To truly fellowship with God, man had to have freedom of choice. Unfortunately, man used his freedom to rebel against God and fell from fellowship with God. When man fell, he came under the dominion of the devil, because he followed the devil's suggestion to disobey God. With this came spiritual death and a new nature which was selfish. Man became self-centered -- worshiping himself by making every decision based on what was best for him. The result of this selfishness is evident all around

us: horrible misery and suffering. God is just and obeys His own laws. Justice requires that rebellion be punished. To be just yet allow mankind to come back into fellowship with Him, God Himself came to earth as the man Jesus Christ. He suffered a horrible death as the substitute for all mankind, taking the punishment we deserved for our sins. Because of what Jesus did, God could justly forgive all sin, and open a way for all people to come back into fellowship with God. Jesus Christ was born, died and rose again for one purpose only; to show mankind the way back to a relationship with God. Anyone who believes this can enjoy the benefits of His sacrifice, which sets us free from sin and God's final judgment. Our life on earth now is testing and preparation for eternity, to prepare us to be in God's family. This is not determined by human beauty or achievement, but by our willing-

Men ness to acknowledge that we are sinners and accept the death of Jesus as punishment for our sin. This needs to be followed by a submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ. When we submit to Jesus, He begins changing us into what He wants us to be. When you come to Jesus, He changes you inwardly. As you continue following Jesus and obeying His Word, your inward change will continue manifesting outwardly, causing people and circumstances around you to change also. God will continue working in and through you until you become like Jesus Christ in your thoughts, words and actions, as well as your nature.

The Bible says that God sent Jesus so that He can have many sons just like Him. This is the purpose for all mankind but becomes effective only in those who accept and believe it. It is then that we find our true purpose on earth. My writing is inspirational, and Bible Study based. God the Creator has gifted me with the ability to write creatively. I want to use this for His Glory. My writing may be freely used to help and bless people through their journey of life. Life Lessons CHOICES

How many times have you made a promise that you didn’t keep—or, for some reason, couldn’t keep? Countless times, no doubt! Like, probably every year, that New Year’s Resolution that you made Jan. 1, now long forgotten by the end of the month, if not sooner! But when we make a promise to God, we must remember that He knows the future. Consider Peter’s rash, though sincere, promise to Jesus. I; “and again he said, “more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise.” Likewise said all the disciples. But, as we know now—and Jesus knew then (Mark 14:6672), Peter would deny even knowing the Lord 3 times when put on the spot by eyewitnesses! (Verse 72) tells us that Peter remembered what Jesus said about what he would do (his denials), “and when he thought thereon, he wept.” We all try to keep our word, but we excuse ourselves that we are only “human.” Jesus truly

understood our human nature, as a human being Himself. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus’ soul “was exceeding sorrowful unto death: and He asked 3 of the disciples “to watch” and not sleep as He went to pray. But they fell asleep. Jesus understood. He said, “The spirit is truly ready, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:34-38) Jesus understood His own humanity and knew what suffering meant. He even asked His Father to spare Him the death that He knew was coming…it was known to Him from all eternity. But His final words to His Father about the reality were “Not what I will, but what Thou wilt.” (Mark 14:36) Our choices in life ranges from easy (what will I have for dinner?) to consequential (whom shall I marry? What do I want to do with my life? What career or lifestyle should I choose?) If we surrender—not to our own will, but to God’s for our lives, then all things will work for our good. (Romans 8:28) And that’s a promise! >

How Can We Discover God's Plan For Our Life?

With many, the question has been already settled. There are some who from early youth have had but one dream for their life. Almost from their infancy, they have had a passion for a particular line of duty — so definite, so earnest, and so irre-

sistible, that they never think of anything else. With one it is business, with another carpentry, with another the profession of a physician, with another the Christian ministry. In such cases, the question what occupation to follow never causes any anxious thought. From the beginning the goal is in sight and the eye is never taken from it. But the number of young men for whom the way is made so plain is not large. There are many whom no star guides in such unmistakable way. They have not

an obvious preference for any work. Many students, as they come toward graduation, find the question what they will do when they leave college, almost as serious as the matter of their senior examinations. A considerable number of graduates go out decorated with a degree — yet not knowing where they are going! Then in the matter of final decision as to profession or calling, it happens often that it is not made as the result of any intelligent thought about the subject — but is merely that which appears to open. Many young men seem to drift into the place in which they are to spend their years. When they are expected to take up the burden and responsibility of their own life, they cast about aimlessly for something to do. They go the round of possible opportunities, seeking employment, knocking at door after door, until they find an opening. If you ask them what they have decided to do, they will answer, "I shall do whatever I can get to do." There is no great overmastering desire or purpose in their mind. They go out on their quest, equally ready to take a place as a clerk or salesman in a store, as a proof-reader in an editorial office, as teacher in a school, as a student of medicine, law, or business. This scarcely appears to be the proper attitude for one who has just completed a course in a college or other high-grade institution. It would seem reasonable to expect that after such a preliminary training, a young man should have formed some purpose in life, have settled upon something that he needs to do and is fitted to do. We are not made to drift on the current of life, to be carried wherever the tide chances to bear us, or the wind

to waft us. We are made to think, plan, purpose and decide. If we have even a dim consciousness of the grandeur of our being and our responsibility in the world, we must make our life purposeful. It cannot be that anyone is born into this world just to be swept along like a leaf before the wind. Christianity teaches that in God's universe "nothing walks with aimless feet," that God made each one of us for something definite; that there is a place each person is designed to fill, a work he is created to do. If this is true, no one need ever be perplexed about what he is put on earth for. If God has a plan for your life, something He expects you to do, and for the doing of which He will hold you responsible — He would never be so unreasonable as to hide it out of your sight so that you cannot learn what it is. But HOW can we discover God's plan for our life? We must put ourselves into the most cordial relations with God. We must seek to do His will and to be guided by Him in everything. At the same time, we must recognize our responsibility for the abilities and capacities we have received from Him and must make the most of them. We must have an earnest purpose in life. We are not placed in this world merely to be taken care of even by a Heavenly Father; we are here to serve God by serving our fellowmen. Ambition which begins and ends on oneself is unworthy; our ambition should be to live out God's thought for us and to become the largest possible blessing to the world. If we have these great purposes in our heart, and follow Christ See GOD'S PLAN on Page

3 Steps To Confidently Discern God’s Calling On Your Life By Ryan Ingram • Should I have chosen a different job/spouse/house/life? • Am I wasting my time as I wait for God to show me what’s next? focus. Let’s explore the steps that will enrich your life, deepen your faith, and bring you clarity. 1. Come to Jesus Your first calling is to Jesus. You are called to a person first, not a task. You are invited into a relationship, not a list of rules. Your highest purpose and calling have nothing to do with your job or education or marital status. Your highest calling is simply Jesus. He calls us to Himself. This invitation is spoken beautifully: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. —(Matthew 11:28-30) He invites us into a relationship with Himself, and His only request is that we hand Him our burdens and take on His “way,” which is easy and light. Not a bad deal! Rick Warren says it well: “The

first purpose of your life or calling is to let God love you.” Do you know how to let God love you? Do what Jesus asked: come to Him. Stop putting up walls and ignoring that invitation. I hate that you’ve been hurt, and you have deep wounds and heavy baggage. God says to come to Him with all of it, and He’ll meet you there. The first step to confidently discern God’s calling on our life is to come to Jesus. Know God: Who Is The Real God? 3 Surprising Attributes of His Character 2. Be faithful. The second step in our journey to discover God’s calling and purpose is that we are called to faithfulness. Paul’s life demonstrates this step perfectly. After this happened in a couple of locations, Paul and his team were unsure how to proceed. They decided it was best to send him off to his hometown of Tarsus. Did you realize he spent ten years in his hometown, waiting for God to reveal the next steps for his life? This Jew, whom God miraculously appeared to and saved and who would eventually pen much of the New Testament, spent A DECADE waiting for God’s next steps. What did he do during this time? Often referred to as the “Silent Years”, we aren’t entirely sure. We know he worked the family trade, and we can assume he continued sharing the Gospel with anyone who was in his vicinity. Other than that, we know only that he was faithful with what was in front of him for that decade. He just woke up every morning and did the thing God had for him that day. our calling, we tend to focus on the 10% that's unique to each of us. But 90% of our calling is clear in the Scriptures and applies to everyone: Come to Jesus, live faithfully, and enjoy community. This is especially hard for us in the 21st century, and I believe there are two reasons why: We hate waiting. We want everything now. Whether it’s our delivery, our meal, or answers, we’ve become accustomed to getting answers as fast as Alexa can give them. As we wait, the salt in the wound is our access to other people’s “callings.” We see, through the prevalent sharing on social media, the lifestyles, and successes of the different people in our lives. We’ve even seen how their offspring have superseded our success! Those ten years were not a waste for the apostle Paul, and they aren’t a waste for you. Can you look back on a time of waiting and acknowledge that God was forming you, using those years to refine and strengthen you? Because no matter how small you think the work is during those years, it’s about being faithful to what’s in front of us because that’s what He’s called us to today. Faithful In The Little Things Not only are the waiting years times of growth and transforma-

tion, but they also give us the chance to be faithful in the little things. (Luke 16:10) begins with Jesus saying: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” What is the faithful little for your life that He has placed in front of you — the thing that’s making it easy to look into the future and say, “When I get there, then I’ll do this,” or “When this happens then I’ll…” All the while, He’s telling you to be faithful in the little. Maybe it’s a job you don’t like or a marriage that’s struggling. Or maybe God’s asking you to be obedient and faithful in your singleness, your ministry, or your friendships. Be faithful right here with what He has put in front of you. It is not a waste. It’s formation. The decisions we make in the hidden places, those everyday “littles,” will shape our destiny. Day by day, the Father is using what’s in front of us to conform us more to the likeness of His Son. That’s our second clear calling. Our calling is to be faithful in the little things. That means waking up every day and accomplishing what He's put in our path. Day by day, the Father is using the little things

to conform us to the likeness of His Son. Feeling unsure? How Confidently to Pray for Peace When Anxiety Is Creeping In. 3. Enjoy fellowship. Like the followers in (Acts 13,) our specific calling will come out of engaging in fellowship with one another. “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So, after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.” —(Acts 13:2-3) First, they were worshipping and fasting together. They were sharing lives and intimate, worshipful moments that were shaping and forming them. Have you ever experienced this kind of fellowship, the kind where you walk away wanting to be more like Jesus? The author of Hebrews knew the importance of fellowship: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meetSee 3 STEPS on Page

A Passionate Christian Woman By C. Maggie Woychik sionate Christian woman simply has a passion for the things of God and is driven to do something about it. This woman thirsts for God. God is the driving force of her existence, the meaning behind her life. She doesn't live primarily for the latest fads, fashions, or fancies, but for God. She cares little for fame or fortune, recognition, or reward. Instead, she has experienced the intense satisfaction of a personal relationship with a holy God, and as a deer longs for a cool, refreshing stream to enjoy, so she longs for her God. She hungers for Truth. In a mixed-up world where wrong What is a passionate Christian often seems right, a passionate woman? Well, she's not a woman believer pursues God's Truth with who's perfect, peerless, or guiltless, intensity. Never one to accept but as human as you and me. A pas- mere human opinion or feeling-

based experience, she considers God's Word to be as necessary to her as her daily food. She has a Berean mindset (Acts 17:11), persistently compares the spoken word to the written Word, and sifts it to find the Truth. A passionate Christian woman is passionate about the Bible, for therein God has revealed His heart and mind for mankind. She loves others with godly passion. She demonstrates sincere concern, models unconditional love, and does her utmost to influence those around her for heaven. She doesn't portray one who has arrived, but one who knows where she's going. Then she coaxes and encourages and helps others to join her on her journey. Her love is practical, pure, and positive. The motivation for her outreach is her up-reach to God, and she does it with fervency and attention to detail. She lives today with tomorrow in mind. A passionate Christian woman knows her time is limited. She is acutely aware that her life is as a drop in the bucket of time and eternity. She will pass off the scene all too quickly with only her influence remaining.

She realizes she has no second chance, no life "held over on account of rain". So she lives each day to its fullest with this goal in mind: to follow hard on the heels of the very God in whom we live and breathe and have our being. This woman lives with a vengeance, committed to going out with a bang instead of a whimper. She fulfills today's duties while focusing on the future. Finally, a passionate Christian woman avoids sin so she can gain intimacy with God. Though the world allures and tempts, this believer knows her boundaries and accepts her playground. She doesn't walk the fence row, desirous of the apple across the way. She romps and ranges in the field God has given her, content to run home at the end of the day with clean hands and a pure conscience. Is this a description of a perfect Christian woman? Finding Easter Hope In Hardship By Barbara Reaoch

“How has the pandemic affected your kids?” I asked this question to a mom of three children. Right away she listed some of the meaningful activities her kids have lost play dates with friends, music lessons, in-classroom school, sports practice, youth group, “normal” church services, story time at the library, and Friday dinner at their favorite restaurant. After a pause, she reflected, That’s just the surface. What’s more important, they really miss grandparent hugs. No more weekend visits and birthday celebrations with special people. We’ve lost our daily rhythm. We used to pray together and read Scripture at dinner. Now snacking takes the place of mealtime. Our house stays messy—and we do too! Whining.

Arguing. Nightmares. Crying. Clinging. Disruption is hard! What parent can say they are not battling discouragement? Where is God in all of this? Will life ever feel normal again? How can we give our kids hope when we’re struggling ourselves? Consider this—hardship is God’s fuel to reignite His children’s love for Him (Rom. 5:1–5). Here are three truths to hold on to as you prepare your family for all God desires. Hardship Drives Us to Cry Out to God Our world expects parents to teach their kids to look on the bright side. But what happens when the bright side is hard to find? God doesn’t ask us to pretend that things are good when they are bad. Instead, God calls us to cry out to Him (Psalm 34:6; 42; 43). The psalmist says, “Pour out your hearts before him. God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8). Let your kids hear you talk to God about your fears, sadness, and discouragement. They may begin to see the connection between our

troubles and our need to depend on God. Prayers of lament are not the “feel good” prayers we may think our kids need to hear. Reminders of sin, illness, and death may make us feel uncomfortable. But we don’t have to pretend all is well. God, in His Word and by His Spirit, is with us in life’s hardships. He invites us and our kids to ask hard questions. Why does God allow bad things to happen? Why do people get sick and die? Why is there so much sadness and suffering in the world? Hard questions lead our kids to the solid hope they need. As Easter approaches, follow Jesus on His road to the cross by reading the Gospel of Luke with your family. Get ready—your kids may hit you with more questions. Jesus had done nothing wrong, why did bad people accuse Him? Why did they call Jesus names and beat Him? Why did Jesus have to suffer and die? For the first time your child may realize that sin is not just the bad things we do. Sin is in our hearts. Godly grief for sin hurts but

brings huge blessings. Is your child asking good questions about the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus? Do you detect a sadness in his ongoing battle with sin? Let your child know God can give them a new heart that wants to do right. When kids cry out to God, He will change them from the inside out! “Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret” (2 Cor. 7:10). Hardship Prompts Us to Watch for God Easter tells us that hardship has purpose. Even when we do not understand what God is doing, we know He is true to His Word. We know our bright future is not just wishful thinking because God sent His Son to die on the cross for us, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32). From the hardships in our life, we have new eyes to watch for the goodness God promises. See EASTER HOPE on Page 13

WE CAN CARE FOR YOU. BUT ONLY YOU CAN TELL US WHO YOU CARE FOR. Half of your healthcare is in the stories you share with us. Because before you’re a patient, you’re a person – and what you’re thinking, feeling, and hoping for can help us to personalize your recovery and improve your outcome. oloah.org/WeListenWeHeal

10 Ways To Love Your Husband Well By Kimberly Wagner

1. Be kind. Throwing out those two words conjures up all kinds of ideas. I'm not saying put on a frilly apron, paste on a cheesy smile, and ignore your husband's bad habits. I mean what the apostle Paul is talking about when he says: Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you (Eph. 4:32). The charge to "be kind" is an

action that is a blend of goodness and usefulness. How can you be "good" to your husband and "useful" in helping your husband pursue godliness? Are you his good and useful friend? Are you good and useful when it comes to helping him fulfill his hopes and dreams? 2. Give space. It took me a long time to understand that I can easily suffocate my husband. No, really. Without intending to, I can flood him with a barrage of thoughts, passions, plans, and intensity that can leave him gasping for air. Finally, after several years of drowning him, I learned that it is good to give him space. He needs time to process my ideas or plans. He needs time to think before answering my line of questioning. He needs space to rest from my intensity. He needs the opportunity to be alone without feeling guilty for getting time away. Most men need some space. 3. Study him. Do you know how to practice the "love language" concept? To know what conveys love to your spouse, you must enter his world and become a student of your man. Watch what he gets excited about and learn enough to be able to talk with him about his passion. Find out what communicates "love" to him—is it affirming words, physical touch, acts of service (kindness in action), gifts, little love notes on the dash of his car, or maybe quality time?

35 Years Experience

Know what communicates love to your man so you can love him well. 4. Let go. Hanging on to hurt poisons a relationship. In the same verse where Paul charges us to "be kind," he also tells us to forgive one another with this as the criteria: "As God in Christ forgave you." That is significant forgiveness. And just a friendly warning—holding on to an offense will cause bitterness to begin shaping your perspective and actions (Heb. 12:15). There is much we can "let go" that we tend to hang on to-hurt from misunderstanding, disappointment over dashed expectations, little frustrations that build into blow-ups! One thing we don't need to "let go" or overlook is habitual sin. So, another way of loving your husband well is by humbly confronting him. 5. Humbly confront. If you are ignoring your husband's sin, you are not being a true friend to him. (Galatians 6:1–2) charges us with the responsibility of loving others through humble confrontation. The easy thing is to turn your back on your man when he is struggling in sin or to vent in anger. The harder thing is to reach for biblical restoration lovingly and humbly. Restoration is a beautiful process that begins with coming alongside your husband when he is in sin and having a "salty grace talk." Share your heart and express your concerns in an honest but gracious manner—not accusing or placing blame. Let him know that you're giving him time to consider what you've shared, but if he's practicing a habitual sinful lifestyle and unwilling to repent, you'll need to appeal to your church leadership for help (Matt. 18:15–18). 6. Be his safe place. Your husband needs to know that you're in his corner, you're there for him, and you can be trusted. If he doesn't open to you, it could be an indication that your husband is intimidated by you or even fears you. If your husband has retreated to a cave of isolation, don't demand for him to come out; just pray for him and encourage him. Look for opportunities to affirm him verbally. Be patient with him. 7. Laugh freely. Be creative in finding ways to laugh with your man. Laughter truly is a "medicine" for the soul. It releas-

es the body's "feel good" chemicals (endorphins) and bonds you and your husband together by creating happy memories. Is there a funny movie you enjoy together? Private jokes between only you? If you don't have any, find some. Talk about funny episodes or remind him of crazy moments you've shared in the past and take time to laugh. 8. Appreciate. Husbands thrive on their wives' appreciation. Letting your man know that you're grateful for him, that you respect him, that you notice his efforts and affirm him for those is fuel for his manhood! I wrote a book filled with practical content for this point, so I won't elaborate here, but if you want input on a variety of ways that you can show appreciation, check it out. 9. Kneel often. Love your husband well by going to battle for him in prayer! Find Scripture passages that speak to your husband's specific areas of need, and regularly apply these to your intercession for him. Ask him what specific challenges he is facing at work, or in other areas, and how you can be praying for him. Don't come across as "spiritually superior" when you ask him for input, but let him know that you struggle as well, so you understand the need for prayer support. 10. Intentionally snuggle. Most men (not all) would say that physical touch is one of their love languages. Be intentional in taking time to hug your man and lay on the kisses before he heads out to the battlefield. Repeat that process when you see each other again at the end of a long hard day. Ask him what pleases him physically and be intentional in providing time to love him well through sexual intimacy. Sacred enjoyment in the marriage bed isn't meant to go only one way. Let your husband know how he can please you, and never demean his efforts in this area. Physical intimacy should be a tender dance of one giving and providing for the other-where both are expressing and receiving mutual enjoyment. Reading this list is the easy part, but doing it is the proof of our love. Let's intentionally love our husbands well! © 2001-2022 Revive Our Hearts >

EASTER HOPE Continued from Page 11 As your family reads the Scripture together, teach your kids to watch for God—His Person and promises. Open God’s Word and show your family what it means to look for God’s bigger purpose. Hardship is not a bully to avoid. Within it hides a blessing. Look for the blessing to embrace. Our loving heavenly Father is at work, making us more like His Son, Jesus. Hardship Teaches Us to Hope in God Our children hope for many things that may or may not happen. But there’s no maybe about hope in God. Hope in God means we are certain His Word is true. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin and open the way for us to be God’s children. He rose to life winning over sin and death forever. Now God’s children know that they, too, will be raised to new life after they die (1 Cor. 15:20–23). We know Jesus will return (Luke 22:16, 18, 19). God gives us hope to live in the hardship as we remember that all His promises are for us (2 Cor. 1:20; 1 Pet. 1:13). Easter is our time to look to the

cross of Christ and His resurrection to refresh our hope in God. When hardship wears us out, His hope is our fuel to run the race before us (Isa. 40:31). When hardship discourages us, His hope anchors our soul (Heb. 6:19). Jesus has gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us (John 14:2–3). One day He will come for us and we will live with Him in His kingdom without sin (1 John 3:1–3). He will wipe away every secret tear and we will only have joy perfectly forever (Rev. 21:3-4; 22:5). Worth Remembering One day the crisis of the pandemic will be over. What lessons from this hardship are worth remembering? The mom I spoke with ended by saying, “Crazy busy was how I described the frantic pace of family activity before social distancing! Although none of our activities were bad, there was never enough time for more important things. Maybe this abrupt change will allow us to step back and re-order our family’s priorities.” Hardship is never our first choice. But God’s children can trust that we are safe in His care. Hardship is not

PASSIONATE Continued from Page 10 ituality. In fact, they are utterly ordinary ones who fail, fall, and are tired at the end of the day. They are tested and found wanting all too often. But they have heard from God through His Word, seen Him work in their lives, and have experienced peace, answered prayer, and comfort through the Holy Spirit. Now their heart is fixed, their commitment firm, their joy complete. They learn and grow and find purpose in mundane tasks

and the everyday routine of living. A passionate Christian woman thirsts after God, hungers for His Word, has a sincere concern for others, and lives today with tomorrow in mind. She avoids sin so she can maintain a close relationship with her Creator and Lord. She is a passionate believer living a purposeful life. She is alive with a passion for God! © Copyright 2022, C. an accident. Hardship is God’s fuel to reignite His children’s love for Him (Romans 5:1–5). Let this Easter be a time for your family to discover true happiness through faith in Jesus Christ.

If you are a child, read this to your parents so that you can train them well. If you are an adult, then you may wish to read this together with your child. First, kids, it is YOUR parents you are to obey. It is up to your parents to tell you which other adults are to be obeyed. Probably they will want you to obey teachers, policemen, some church leaders, babysitters they chose, and your grandparents. If you have a question about who to obey, please ask your parents first, even if you have to say to the other person, “Please wait a minute and I’ll ask my parents if this is OK.” Never obey anyone who is trying to do you harm. If anyone tries to harm you or make you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents or teacher immediately. You are to be respectful of everyone, but to obey your parents fully. This means NOW. Immediately! The first words out of your mouth after your mom or dad give you something to do should be “Okay, mom” or “Okay, dad.” Then rise and do it. Be happy in the way you say that. Attitude is important. “But what if something else makes it impossible to do what my parent asks?” It’s simple to fix that one. Here’s what you do. You appeal to your parent. But it needs to be done the right way. Say,

“Mom, I’m ready to obey you right now if you wish, but would you mind if I ask you something first?” Likely your mom will say, “No, I don’t mind.” Then you can tell mom or dad whatever you need to, such as, “Well, you asked me to finish my homework before I get up from the desk. Which thing would you like for me to do first?” You get the idea? Let’s go over it again. After you hear the command, say something kind like “Yes sir.” Then get up and do what is asked for. If you have some reason, you cannot do it, or strongly prefer not to do that at that time, you may ask if you can say something first. If you get permission to do that, then share your idea. That’s called an “appeal.” Then do exactly what your parent tells you that you should do. It’s simple. Now, maybe you might want to practice making an appeal together right now to make sure you have it down. Once you know how to appeal, everyone will be much happier, including you. Enjoy obeying!

Dear kids, I’m Carl the camel. Thanks a lot for choosing to read my story. I’m sure you will enjoy my adventurous story. You can read Genesis Chapter 24 to know the relevant story in the Bible. Happy reading! Carl – The search for a bride I’m going to look for a bride! There were lots of preparations going on for our long journey in search of a bride. Well, let me first tell you about me. I am the best-looking guy in our group. Many a times my friends have told me that I was the most handsome among all of us which made me very proud. But my cousin Camella always used to tell me not to be proud of my beauty even though she admired me a lot secretly. We were great friends too. We

used to roam about and chat a lot! Our master liked us a lot. He would always choose either one of us for his pleasure rides. A few days back during such a pleasure ride with my master, Camella injured her foreleg when she tried to negotiate a rocky pit. So, Camella was left behind when ten of us where prepared for our long journey in search of a bride. Bride? For whom? Not for me! It was for my master Isaac. I was decorated with silk clothes and gold ornaments. Lots of gold and silver gifts were placed inside a box and loaded on the saddle. Though I was very happy to get all these privileges, deep inside I felt very lonely because this was the first time I was going to be away from Camella. As we started our journey, we bid goodbye with tears rolling down. I prayed that we find a bride very soon and come back as swift as the wind. We were very tired when we reached Nahor’s city. We didn’t have the strength even to move our feet one step ahead. When we found a well, it looked like heaven. But we were not allowed to drink water at once. We grunted and kicked the ground in anger. Suddenly we saw a beautiful

woman with a jar on her shoulders. She was so charming that we started gazing at her and even forgot about our tiredness and thirst. My master’s servant spoke something to her, and she drew water for all of us from the well. “Wow! She must be an angel from heaven!” I thought. Then we were led to a house and given lots of food to eat. I missed Camella a lot. How wonderful it would have been if she was with me! I thought of her for a long time and slept off. The next morning the gifts from my saddle were taken off and to my greatest surprise, the pretty woman was made to sit. I felt like jumping between heaven and earth! “She is the bride for my master! And now it’s me who’s going to take her to my master!” My eyes glittered with pride. But I also knew how careful I should be to take her safely. The journey back home didn’t seem to take too long. The thought that I was going to see Camella energized me a lot. As we were nearing our town, I could see something moving back and forth in the field. As we came closer, I knew that it was Camella and my master. Camella also saw me. We ran towards each other with much excitement. I had so much to tell

her. And this journey also made me realize who my bride was. We were out of breath and words when we met. Tears were rolling down my sweet Camella’s cheeks. I could see how much she had also missed me from the emotions she tried to hide from me. I knelt down before her to tell her how I felt about her. The pretty woman climbed down and joined hands with my master to go home. My master turned back and patted me gently with thankfulness. I grunted and nodded my head in response. I and Camella soon married as my master married the pretty woman – Rebecca. ©2022 FaithWriters.com. All Rights Reserved • www.faithwriters.com >

Dear kids, I’m Sherlock the sheep. Thanks a lot for choosing to read my story. I’m sure you will enjoy my adventurous story. You can read (Genesis Chapter 22: 1-19) to know the relevant story in the Bible. Happy reading! Sherlock – The Long-awaited journey The stones…and the woods laid on them; they are a feast to our eyes. They are the things used to make an altar for sacrifices. I remember my mom saying that a sacrifice with us pleases God the most as we fear the Lord and are very timid. So, when an altar is prepared and one of us is brought to it, we get frenzied. We get so much excited because we know that we’re going to see the Lord very soon. So,

the journey to get sacrificed before we die is the most long-awaited journey by all of us – the sheep. Now as I had grown old, I almost lost hope that I would ever get that golden chance. One day as I was gracing as usual in the foot of a hill, I saw an old man and a young man climb up the hill. The old man had a knife in one hand and fire in the other. I was very curious to see what they were up to. I followed them without making a noise. After they reached the top, the old man started building an altar. He looked quite disturbed, but he was continuously praying and singing praises to God. The altar was ready in a little while. The young man went up to the old man and asked, “Father, where is the sheep?” “Are they father and son?” I gazed. “But where is the sheep?” I too asked myself. To my greatest shock, the father tied up his son and put him on the altar. The son did not speak a word but remained calm. The father took out the knife and raised his hands up to sacrifice his son. I was trem-

I could only say, “Baa… Baa…” Abraham heard me and was overjoyed to see me there. He walked up to me and lifted me. I knew that it was my long-awaited journey. A journey that would please my Lord and that would take Grounded in Tradition. Building in Faith.

Dear kids, I’m Duncan the donkey. Thanks a lot for choosing to read my story. I’m sure you will enjoy my adventurous story. You can read (Luke Chapters 1:203:40) to know the relevant story in the Bible. Happy reading! Duncan – Born for a mission From the day I remember I’ve heard my mother tell me, “You’re born for a mission. You are a special child.” My father was very strong and sturdy. Every time our master loaded my father with goods, he would take me too. Those long and tiresome walks were boring and energy

draining. Whenever I saw young lads like me playing in the fields, I used to feel very unhappy. I did not dare to resist when my father made me walk such long distances, but as soon as I returned, I would nag my mother expressing my anger. She would always smile at me, hug me, advice to obey and tell those favorite lines of hers, “You’re born for a mission. You are a special child.” I never understood what my mother told. My master was a very poor carpenter and we worked very hard with him. ‘How can I ever think of a mission?’ I wondered several times. Despite all these ill-feelings, I grew up to be a very strong and sturdy donkey just as my dad. My master loved me a lot. Eventually my father fell ill and died. So, I took up all the works he did. I would go with my master to nearby towns very often. One day there was a big feast in my master’s house, and he got

married. My mistress was the most beautiful and gracious woman I had ever seen. Very soon she looked like she was going to give birth. One day my master packed things for a long journey and made my mistress sit on me. I heard my master say, “Let’s go to Bethlehem.” Bethlehem? I had never been to that place, and I’ve heard it’s very far off. I began feeling more responsible as we started to walk. I knew that I was not carrying only one but two. I walked fast, but at the same time I was very careful in every step I took. After many days of journey, we reached Bethlehem one night. My master took us to a stable. There were cows, bulls, horses, sheep and even donkeys. I felt very much at home. I was very much surprised when my master and mistress spread their beds in the stable. In the middle of the night, I suddenly heard a baby cry. We all woke up to see a beautiful and charming baby laid on a cushion made of straw. Suddenly the place turned magical. Magnificent angels appeared and sang.

Some shepherds came and bowed down before the baby. A very bright light from the sky shone on the stable. Many people visited us. The most important were the three men dressed in royal clothing who came with expensive gifts. We all loved the baby very much. “If men and angels worship him, he must be greater than them,” I thought. I felt very proud of my little master. God had entrusted me with the responsibility of bringing the Lord of Lords from Nazareth to Bethlehem. It was then that I understood my mother’s favorite lines! My dad had taken so much pain to train me for this! Then onwards I started telling myself, “I’m born for a mission. I’m a special child.” Afterwards I took my master and his family to places and back to Nazareth. I never felt tired no matter how long the journey was, because I knew what my mission was and why I was special! ©2022 FaithWriters.com. All Rights Reserved • www.faithwriters.com >

Anti-Aging Treatments By Angie Lewis

Have You Ever Heard the Saying, “Healthy Body Means Healthy Skin?” I tend to believe it does. The first step in reducing the signs of aging starts on the inside. The most beneficial anti-aging treatments are usually the most simple and natural products on the market. It is important to take care of our skin by exfoliating, and applying a daily moisturizer, but even more important than that is what we are putting in our bodies daily. Ask any ageless adult with glowing skin about what they eat daily and they most likely will tell you, plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits and a good one-a-day vitamin formula. Ask someone that looks younger than forty, but who is fifty, what they eat, and they will usually tell you, plenty of raw fresh green vegetables and daily exercise. Our skin needs to breathe. In the long haul the best products for our skin are actually those things that work to maintain our whole-body system on an optimal level. So, in that regard below is a list of skin care products for not only getting the healthiest looking skin on the planet but also a healthy body. 1. Colon Cleanse – Whole Psyllium Husks By far the most important and first step to having flawless skin is detoxifying the bowels. Having a clean intestinal tract is essential for healthy looking skin. If your diges-

tive tract is clogged, so is your skin. Your skin needs to breathe. You can pile on the creams but if the skin is not breathing it won’t do much good in the long run. 2. Automatic Juice Extractor by Oster Use your juicer at least three times a week for extracting the juice of your favorite fruits and vegetables. Juice two cloves of garlic with each drink and you will never get sick. Hint: If you juice garlic be sure to juice at least one whole apple or the drink will be too garlicky. 3. Eat Wholesome Fresh Foods Regularly I truly believe we start to look like the way we eat. If we eat greasy fast-food hamburgers and frenchfries for dinner two or three time a week, we’re probably going to get a bit clogged up, have no energy, puffy eyes, pimples, and blotchy skin. But when we eat raw fruits, vegetables, and other wholesome foods daily we’ll have more energy, our skin begins to clear and reveals a natural glow, and it doesn’t matter what age we are! 4. Daily Moisturizer My favorite skin care product for applying in the evening before bed is pure virgin coconut oil. Pure virgin coconut oil is the best natural ingredient for anti-aging. It helps to keep the skin from developing liver spots, and other blemishes caused by aging and over exposure to sunlight. It helps to keep connective tissues strong and supple so that the skin doesn't sag and wrinkle. It smells good too. If you apply it regularly, you’ll notice a big difference. Don’t forget about these simple ways to reduce the signs of aging as well. Some things in life are just too precious to come out

of a bottle. • Walk two miles every other day • Drink plenty of water • Have friendships with happy positive people • Take up a hobby • Meditate and pray Of course, as we age, we will begin to have more wrinkles no matter what we do. The natural fine lines and crow’s feet in the woman over forty is a part of who she is; her face is a picture of beauty; the way she smiles and laughs and loves life. The natural wrinkled look of the woman over forty who takes care of herself looks better than the woman who spent thousands of dollars on a face-lift. Copyright © 2022 Heaven Ministries>

Herbs and Foods That Prevent Signs of Aging By Angie Lewis

The best way to slow down the aging process is to feed your body well. The best super foods for looking younger than your age are sprouts, wheat grass, greens, seaweed, berries, red grapes, green tea, and most vegetables when eaten either raw or lightly steamed. Your body absolutely needs nutrients every day to regenerate healthy cells, keep your immunity strong, and to rejuvenate the skin. Common herbs that prevent the signs of aging when applied on the skin or ingested on a consistent basis are green tea, horsetail, ivy, rosemary, and horse chestnut. Sprouts I’ve been sprouting organic seeds for years. It is fun, easy, and excellent for your health. I mostly sprout the wheat berry, alfalfa, mung bean, and sunflowers seeds, but you can sprout many other kinds of legumes and seeds as well. Alfalfa sprouts are full of life-giving nourishment and should be included in your healthy lifestyle. Eating a cup of alfalfa sprouts each day mixed in with your salad or sandwich is all you need to get the nutritional benefits from it. How To Sprout You can watch our video on "how to sprout" here. Add ½ cup of your favorite sprout seeds into a wide-mouthed jar and cover seeds with filtered water. Allow the seeds to sit overnight. The next morning rinse your sprouts and drain off the water using a mesh screen. Secure screening with a rubber band. Tip the jar onto its side and let nature go to work. Rinse your sprouts a couple times a day. I rinse mine in the morning and before I go to bed. In three days, you will have wheat berry sprouts. These are excellent little nutty gems that add a slight crunch to your salads. Wheat sprouts can also be eaten 20 EASTER 2022

with yogurt or mixed with dried fruits. In five days, you will have alfalfa sprouts. Alfalfa sprouts are excellent in your sandwiches and salads. In four days, you will have mung bean sprouts, and these are great added to your stir-fry dishes. Take the stir-fry off the heat and stir in a cup or two of mung beans sprouts. Juicing Fruits and Vegetables I also do a lot of juicing of fresh fruits and vegetables. The best fruits and veggies for juicing are carrots, sweet potatoes, celery, apples, berries, grapes, grapefruit, and oranges. My secret for never getting sick is to add a couple cloves of garlic into your juicer and juice the garlic right along with your favorite fruits and vegetables. Be sure to always drink your fresh juices on an empty stomach to ensure you are getting the full benefits of the nutrients absorbed into your system without delay. Juicing or eating fruit should never be done when the stomach is full because you will not efficiently absorb the vitamins and minerals from the fruit into your body. Green Tea Green tea is a powerful antioxidant, but you should drink at least two to three cups a day. Green tea has been shown to suppress inflammation anywhere within the body. Arthritis is a typical example of inflammation. Symptoms of inflammation are soreness, redness, swollen joints, stiffness, and even loss of joint function. In a healthy immune system, the body can fight off inflammation on its own. The immune system becomes stronger when it is given the super foods listed above on a consistent basis while also maintaining a healthy balanced diet. Green tea heals the inside of the body as well as the outside through continuous use of it. The peoples of Japan are known to have one of the longest life spans in the world. And yes, they drink lots of green tea and they eat lots of seaweed. Did you know that when green tea is applied on the skin it reduces the signs of wrinkles, cellulite, and delays skin aging? Big news, Louisiana!

Looking back, it seems to me that the fifties was a great decade. Even today, more than a half-century later, everyone is nostalgic for that era. World War II was over; and the chaos, wars, riots, and assassinations of the sixties hadn’t yet dawned. In the Christian world, this was the decade when Youth for Christ, Campus Crusade, and other great evangelical movements really took off. A fiery evangelist named Billy Graham was showing up on television screens and magazine covers. The Ten Commandments hit movie theaters, and the words “under God” were added to the “Pledge of Allegiance.” I listened to the radio preachers of the day, but like every teenager of the fifties, I also turned the dial to hear popular singers like Pat Boone and Elvis Presley. At night, we’d turn on the television for a weekly visit with I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke, and the “Beaver.” Eisenhower was in the White House, and everybody liked Ike. That’s why, even today, more than a half-century later, everyone wants to relive the age of those “Oldies but Goodies.” If you’re a child of the 1950s or before, you’re a classic. Violin virtuoso Mischa Elman began his career as a child prodigy, thrilling audiences with his remarkable concerts. In old age, he was doing the same. He was once asked if he’d noticed any changes in audience reaction as he had aged. “I haven’t noticed any difference,” said the violinist. “When I was a boy, audiences would exclaim ‘Imagine playing the violin at his age!’ And today, they say the same thing!” Oldies but Goodies in the Bible We can stay young at heart because Christians view the aging process differently from everyone else on earth. After all, how can you grow old if you’re going to live forever? Our bodies may show signs of wear and tear, but we should remember the truth of 2 (Corinthians 4:16): “Even though our outward man is perishing, yet

A Few Quid For The Faire By Dub W.

A dark cloud rolled across the skies and a parade of kettle drums accompanied the march of wind and rain. At the inn droplets formed and competed with dust on warped glass windows. "Molly, are you going' to the fair?" Mary O'Connell stood at the bottom of the stairs and looked into the darkened passage expecting an immediate answer. None came. "Molly O'Connell, aire ya listn' girl? Her demand was yet to reach the fever pitch of her red hair. Mary pulled the dancing lock from her eyes and shouted up the stairs. "Molly!" The return greeting of silence both frustrated Mary and worried her. Molly was a typical teenager, who often got engrossed in the latest novel or teenage magazine. Mary regarded the stairs, she was already tired from scrubbing floors, and to climb the stairs one more time was more than she was truly willing to do, however, with her outburst drawing no attention she elected to take on the stairs and track down the stray Molly O'Connell. Molly liked to play in the attic; Mary knew that even her

loudest voice would not carry to the third floor. Mary reached the second-floor landing and looked for a light in the teenager's room, however, no hint of light emitted beneath the door. She glanced toward the lavatory, again no light was seen. Finally, she saw a shaft of light coming from the attic stairway. "Molly!" She demanded. Suddenly, the door burst open and down the stairs bounded a scantily clad teenage girl. Her short yellow skirt bounced above her waist when she hopped to the landing floor. "Look at yaself girl, you'd covered in cobwebs and dust. Molly, what were you doing up there?" "Nothing mum, twas looking through some old trunks." She began brushing off her arms and dress. "Mum, I need few quid for the faire." "You'll not be going out like that. Put some clothes on, it's raining you know, you'll catch your death you will. Anyway, I thought ye be goin wid your bother today. I'll put ten-pound note on the bureau for both ye, mindya take Timmy." Mary's voice trailed off. She didn't have the heart to force her daughter to baby sit on a rainy day. Molly hopped into her room and closed the door. Although Mary had not finished her motherly lecture, she elected to save the bulk of it for later. In front of her loomed the attic pull- down stairs. I wonder what that scamp was into. Mary pulled herself up the attic stairs and peered into the darkness. Somewhere her hand found the cotton pull cord of the attic light. "If I find a leprechaun up here, I will scream bloody murder I will." She was used to talking to herself; her teenage children rarely gave her more than a short audience. She discovered an old chair and rested herself. It had been a year since she was in the attic. Usually, one of the men of the house hauled boxes and trunks up and down the steep attic stairs. "What could interest me Molly so much up here?" Although hidden in the shadow a trunk was open on her right. Mary reached over to an attic window and pulled off the dirty brown cloth

covering. The room suddenly filled with a gray light. "Rain gonna wash us all away. Whisht, will you. Lookie there." Mary spied the open trunk and scattered clothes around an old Bible. The pages were turned to Psalms, and a verse marker was indicating the 135th Psalm. "Mercy”! Mary looked around the trunk then saw the two clean splotches in the dust. Both spots were directly in front of the trunk. Tears immediately began to run down Mary's face. "She had to be kneeln' here. I shoulda knowed' it." Outside the house laughing voices broke the foreboding silence of the attic. Mary stood to look out the window. Four youngsters were walking in the street. Rain splashed off their plastic rain slickers. From the attic Mary could see the short yellow skirt of her daughter bouncing along under a short rain cape. "Surely, dear Lord, sometimes it must rain for a mum to know her daughter." ©2022 FaithWriters.com. All Rights Reserved >

35 Questions for Maturing a Christian Marriage

Marriage

By Jim Elliff

The following questions are not intended for short answers such as a mere “yes” but are a means to meaningful discussion between a man and a woman who have vowed to love each other “until death do us part.” Take your time to talk them over. Let the conversation flow. You may answer these questions in any order you wish, or all at one time. Two rules apply: First, be painfully honest. Nothing much has happened to improve marriages without truthfulness. Second, be calm, peaceful, accepting, and eager to listen with your ears and your eyes as the discussion goes on. Do all you can not to be hurtful or to pay back for some pain you’ve experienced. Listen rather than press your point. Marriage union means, among other things, that the way you treat each other is the way you treat yourself. Seek to heal wounds and to find out more about the spouse you love. 1. What was the happiest period of our marriage and what were the reasons you think so? 2. In your perception, are there any rooms of my life that you believe are off limits to you? 3. Can you name the one or two aspects of my life that make warmth in our relationship more difficult? 4. What do you see in the character of Christ that you most wish was in you as well? 5. Can you honestly say, “I love you as you are, without requiring anything to change?” Do you ever waver on that?

6. How would you describe the word, “love?” 7. Would you say that we love each other more now than earlier in our marriage?? 8. Do you see me growing godlier as the years go on? How are you measuring that? 9. Does it bother you that I’m growing older? If so, in what ways? 10. Has God put his finger on some aspect of our marriage that needs attention? What is it and what do you believe he wants from us? 11. What worries you most about life? 12. Is there something in your life you have never had the courage to tell me? Why? What is it? 13. Do we work together spiritually to your satisfaction? What could improve that? 14. Do you feel that there is something unfulfilled in our life—something God wants us to do? What is it? 15. How happy are you with our praying as a couple? Is there something to be done to make things better? 16. Have I helped you become more mature spiritually? In what ways? 17. Do you ever question if you are a believer at all? What causes you the most doubt? What can we do about that? 18. Do I sometimes embarrass you? If so, how? 19. Do you sometimes think that I don’t respect you? In helpful and careful terms explain why you perceive that. 20. If I were to be disabled mentally or physically in a severe way, do you think you can handle that? What would be the most difficult aspects? 21. Do you try to fix me? How? Does it work?

22. What is the biggest mistake you have made in our marriage? Why? 23. Are you suffering internally in any way? What is it? 24. Do you think our children and friends see our marriage as beautiful? Why or why not? 25. In what ways does our marriage reflect the relationship of Christ to his future bride, the church? 26. Are you hopeful about the future? 27. Do we focus too much attention or not enough attention on our children? 28. Is there anything about our physical love-making that you wish could be improved? 29. Do you like the way I respond to your family? What could I do to improve? 30. Do you feel that I respect you? How could I show that better? 31. Are you happy with the way we are involved in our life with

other believers? 32. Do you have any ideas concerning our finances that need to be examined? 33. Do you think I spend too much time or not enough time with my friends? 34. What would be one change in my life that you most believe would be for my own good? 35. What do you most wish we could do in the future to make an impact on our world for Christ?

MARRIAGE

Preparing Our Christian Children For A Lifelong Marriage? By Angie Lewis

As Christian parents what is our duty to our children? How can we prepare our children for a lifelong marriage? Did you know that 95% of children grow up and get married and have families but no one ever teaches them a thing about how to value and cherish marriage and family! They manage their marriage the same way everyone else does, without much regard to its Creator. Half of marriages end in divorce and many of those marriages are supposedly Christian based marriages. We are literally throwing our children out into the lion's den without any proper Christian values and morals! Don't you get it? Scripture clearly speaks to us and lets us know that Christ Ones are to be set apart from the world and be examples of Christ. I'm sorry but I just don't see that happening. What kind

of Christians are we if we aren't teaching our children Godly wisdom for righteous living? Christian Women and Moms as Role Models "Then they (older women and mothers) can train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, that no one will malign the word of God." (Titus 2:4-5) The above verse speaks volumes to older Christian women. If you are of an age of position, where young people look up to you, or if you are a mother of teenage daughters make sure that your example is motivating rather than discouraging and wholesome rather than disrespectful. This is our duty and Christian service to God through Christ. It is up to Christian people and parents to instill right Christian values and morals in our children and neighbors. Why are we disregarding such an important aspect of parenting? Christian women and mothers are called to be role models to the younger generation in whatever capacity God has gifted them with. Some women are good

of speech in the younger generation. Remember: Being preachy doesn't work, being an example does. Marriage and family values are becoming a thing of the past and that is unfortunate because healthy marriages and families are what keep society somewhat civilized! Have you taught your sons and daughters the importance of commitment in marriage? There are many things are sons and daughter need to know before getting married. How about cherishing abstinence and emotional purity before marriage? Do we teach our children about saving themselves for their spouse? When Christians of today get so caught up in the worldly affairs of men, they stop relying on God's way and God is the Creator of marriage, so how does that work? Christians need to start relying on and depending on God, and not just when hardship falls their way. Depending on God is our realization of our own powerlessness without him. God is the Christians source of power, and we receive His help for right Christian living when we rely on him every day, not just when we are suffering. This is how we prepare our children for a lifelong marriage. "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom." (Colossians 3:15) Visit our marriage Healing Ministry: http://www.heavenministries. com >

encouragers, others are good at showing by example through how they dress and behave with their own husbands. Whatever God has gifted you with, use it and be a shining star for young girls and women of today. Christian Men and Dads as an Example "Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us". (Titus 2:6-7) Shouldn't we be teaching our sons and young men today how to be good husbands and dads? Many young men today live in a home where dads have neglected their responsibilities to their wives and children. This poor example grows like a snowball that is rolling down a hill, and it will continue through the generations causing even more heartache and family breakups. Husbands and Fathers should be good role models for their sons and for other young men. Older Christian men should be teaching the younger men to be protective, loving, and respectful of all women, even those who have not found their way to God yet. Help young women find their way to God through your respect of and brotherly love for her. This is how Christian values are passed down from generation to generation. It is the older Christian man's duty to teach integrity, selfcontrol, seriousness, and soundness

10 Easy Healthy School Snacks (For Students & Parents)

Maybe you’re packing snacks this year. Or maybe you’re just preparing them ahead of time for schooling at home. Either way, kids (and many parents), like snacks between meals during the day. In fact, many kids need them. Unfortunately, most commercial school snacks fit into the “ultra-processed” category of foods and compromise health with processed fats, sugars, additives, and more. Instead of processed junk, here are 10 easy healthy school snacks that you can make and/or buy. Some fit squarely into keto living, while others contain a moderate amount

of carbohydrates. Either way, they will nourish the body and keep the brain ready-to-learn. 10 EASY HEALTHY SCHOOL SNACKS While all these school snacks are whole-food and healthy, we’ve included both keto and non-keto options as many children eat higher carbohydrates than their Keto Zone parents. Enjoy each using the option that best fits you and your family. 1. HOMEMADE TRAIL MIX Commercial trail mix is often a wolf in sheep’s clothing: seemingly healthy food covered in sugar. However, the idea of trail mix is still a great option, and if you make it yourself, you can choose great ingredients for your student. Try these options: Low-Carb Mix: • 1 cup (112 grams) of pecan halves • 1 cup (112 grams) of chopped walnuts

Education • 1/2 cup (30 grams) of roasted pumpkin seeds • 1/2 cup (43 grams) of unsweetened coconut flakes • 2 tablespoons 70% (or higher) cacao chips Moderate-Carb Mix: Add no-sugar-added dried fruit such as cut-up mangos, cherries, blueberries, dates, and more. 2. CHEDDAR CHEESE CRISPS If you and your kids are tired of the same old snacks, cheddar cheese crisps are a great new idea! To make them Cut thin slices of cheddar cheese into small, individual squares. Place the squares on a baking sheet. Optionally, add fresh herbs such as cut-up basil leaves, or sprinkle with spices or black pepper. Bake at 300°F (150°C) for about 30 minutes, or until crisp. Easy Option: String cheese is also

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:6,7

a good option for kids. They are packable, have minimal ingredients, and pack 6-8 grams of protein. 3. DEVILED EGGS (OR HARD-BOILED EGGS) Eggs are a potent nutrition powerhouse, and a great snack. In fact, they are packed with vitamin B12 and choline, essential nutrients for brain health (1, 2), are associated with a reduced risk of diabetes, and contain albumin, and highly absorbed protein source. Easy Option: Simple hard-boiled eggs are also a great snack. You can make an entire dozen ahead of time for snacks, or even buy oxygenpacked hard-boiled eggs at the store. 4. BERRIES AND WHIPPED CREAM As you probably already know, berries are packed with antioxidants and nutrients that support See HEALTHY SNACKS on Page

EDUCATION HEALTHY SNACKS Continued from Page 25 whole-body health. They also make a great snack. And the carbohydrate level? This all depends on your portion. If you’re keeping carbs low, keep your berries to just 1/4-1/2 cup. If not, you can add more berries! School Snack Option: For a delicious, healthy school snack, combine 1/2 cup berries with 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream in a container and enjoy at school or home (make sure to use a cold pack in a lunch box). 5. LOW-SUGAR BROWNIES Our Keto Zone brownies are delicious and nutritious school snacks without a fight. Essentially, while your kiddo is happily eating a brownie, you know that they are eating almonds and high-antioxidant cacao. What’s more, these brownies are sweetened with all-natural erythritol and contain no added sugar. With a little work ahead of time, you and your student can enjoy these sweet school snacks. Find the recipe here: Keto Zone Brownies. 6. GUACAMOLE AND KETO CHIPS OR VEGGIES

Guacamole is one of those delicious and fun foods that taste so good, most of us forget that it is healthy. And not just a little bit healthy. But really, healthy. Why? Avocados boost many nutrients that fight free radicals, oxidative stress, inflammation, metabolic issues, and more. They have fiber to support gut health, glutathione to support cellular health, and healthy fats to support whole-body health. Mix it with a few other good-foryou ingredients in this Keto Zone Guacamole recipe, and you’ve got one amazing snack dip. What are healthy options to dip into it? You can certainly use Keto Chips, cut up Keto Tortilla Slices, or even veggies like cucumber slices. 7. SUPER SMOOTHIE We are all interested in staying as healthy as possible this school year. You can help your family by eating and drinking nutrients that support immune health in place of ultraprocessed foods that tear down health. Try this Super Smoothie: Place 1/2 avocado (pitted and peeled), 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 scoop vanilla MCT oil powder, 1 scoop hydrolyzed collagen protein, 1 scoop Red or Green Supremefoods, and 1/2-1 cup blueberries (or other berries) in a blender. Add 1

1/2 cups water. Blend thoroughly. Add 1 cup ice if desired. For a sweeter taste, sweetened as desired with your favorite ketofriendly sweetener or real maple (non-keto option). With a cold-pack and good lunchbox, this snack is great onthe-go or at home. 8. CHOCOLATE AVOCADO PUDDING If you think chocolate pudding is off-limits for healthy school snacks, you’re wrong. This chocolate avocado pudding will please even the pickiest of eaters. In fact, many believe it tastes better than traditional pudding. To make it, simply place 1 cup full-fat coconut milk (canned) and 6 tablespoons raw cacao in a medium saucepan. Heat on medium and whisk until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in 6-8 swerve (or xylitol) and 3 tablespoons Hydrolyzed Collagen powder until completely dissolved. Transfer to blender or food processor. Add 2 medium avocados, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and blend until thoroughly mixed and smooth. Chill at least 30 minutes. Serves 4, ~3/4 cup each serving. This treat is not only Keto Zone

delicious, but it’s also packed with nutrients from raw cacao, avocados, and more! 9. EASY TURKEY ROLLUPS One of the easiest school snacks (or even lunch options) is the classic turkey roll-up. To make it: Place a lettuce leaf or turkey slice on wax paper or a silicone mat. If using lettuce, add a slice of turkey next. Then, spread a small amount of mustard or cream cheese on the turkey. Layer ingredients such as mozzarella cheese slices, bell pepper slices, tomato slices, Dr. Don Colbert is a graduate of Oral Roberts School of Medicine and shares his years of experience and research in nutritional medicine in all of his work. HEALTHY SNACKS Continued from Page 26 PUMPKIN COOKIES These will become your new favorites. These will become your kids’ new favorites. They are delicious. They are loaded with great nutrients. And, although “pumpkin,” you have permission to eat them any time of year. What’s more, they are easy to pack and make perfect school snacks! Try our Keto Zone Pumpkin Cookies with Amazing Health Benefits. You will be so glad you did! WHEN AND WHY KIDS BENEFIT FROM HEALTHY SNACKS When adults talk about “snacking,” it’s usually with a negative connotation. Such as “stop snacking so much!” And this is probably for good reason. After all, snacks usually include ultra-processed junk foods. They are often overdone and kill young appetites before a good meal. Or, they are not confined to an event, and are part of the “grazing” snack culture – this is not great for metabolic hormones. However, healthy meals and snacks are important for kids and teens. Why? Kids are active and burn calories throughout the day. Kids are constantly learning. Studies have shown that consistent eating, breakfasts, and food quality play a role in academic performance. On the other hand, junk and fast foods have been shown to have negative effects. Many kids have little energy reserves compared to adults. Blood sugars can fluctuate easily leading to fatigue, overwhelm, and stress without consistent healthy fuel. One factor that can contribute to childhood obesity is restriction of food when hungry and then overeating unhealthy foods later. Have you ever witnessed a child who underate during the day, and then came home from school ravished? WHEN SHOULD KIDS ADD SCHOOL SNACKS? Look at your kids’ schedules. Especially with more social distancing in schools, you child may be eating a very early lunch with a long afternoon, or a late one with a long morning. If they are going more than 3 hours or so without food, it’s a good time for a snack between meals. In addition, many children go to school all day and then attend afterschool activities. If this is the case, plan a good snack after school before activities. Or, if they come

EDUCATION home or stay home after schooling, it will be easier to ward off processed snacks if a healthy one is available. Also, be sure to encourage your child to eat good meals. Lunchtime is often short, so plan foods that are easy to unwrap and eat. Lastly, make sure your child has a good way to stay hydrated throughout the day. A water bottle that is home and washed each evening can help! BOTTOM LINE Maybe this year will become your year of health. The year you decide to ditch processed foods more and more and reinvent school snacks. We certainly hope our list of ideas helps. We wish you and yours the best, healthiest school year possible, no matter where it takes place.

Would you like to know about some super foods that will get you healthy and your body energized? That’s what I thought. Some of these foods you may already eat and that’s great. It’s not hard getting healthy. What makes getting healthy difficult is the motivation factor and making eating healthy a lifestyle. Are we relying too much on vitamin supplements rather than the real thing? Did you know that many of the nutrients we receive from the foods we eat come from raw fruits and vegetables? Therefore, it is very important to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables in our diet to ensure nutritional balance. Mega Vitamins from Food and The Sun * Grow your own sprouts / wheat grass – alfalfa sprouts are super foods. They are packed with life-giving nutrients. Alfalfa sprouts taste good in salads and sandwiches. Some sprouts such as the wheat berry sprout can be mixed with dried fruit, and because of their nutty flavor, make it a perfect nutritious, energy filled snack. Tip: There is strong evidence to support that wheat grass juice (sprouts that have grown into grass) eaten daily while on a macrobiotic diet can prevent disease and heal certain cancers. * Eat a dark leafy green salad once a day - whether you eat spinach greens, kale, Swiss chard, collard greens, broccoli, and mustard greens it doesn’t matter. What mat-

ters is the greens are raw or only lightly steamed. Never boil greens! Once you boil greens, I would compare it to taking a vitamin supplement. Dark greens are best for health when eaten raw. They have vitamins A, C, and K, iron, calcium, and folate. They are also great sources of fiber. * Juice fruits and vegetables – juicing fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to get mega amounts of antioxidants. Investing in a good juicer is well worth the money and I highly recommend anyone who is interested in taking care of his or her health to buy a juicer. If your budget is not ready to buy a brand new one, then you can find a used juicer at thrift stores for around $5 dollars. Tip: add a couple of cloves of garlic to the juicer and you will prevent sickness. (Garlic is a natural antibiotic) * Eat a handful of nuts and seeds daily – raw almonds, coconuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, walnuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds are nutritionally packed with goodness. These nuts are very nutritious and have good fat (monosaturated) the body needs for lowering cholesterol. Tip: Pairing nuts with dried fruits such as raisins, figs, prunes, and dates, make a delicious energybased snack for anyone on the go. Vitamin supplements? Who needs those? * Eat two or three pieces of whole, organic raw fruit a day – this isn’t as hard to do as you might think. Bring fruit with you to work. First thing in the morning eat a piece of fruit or a handful of grapes or other berry. At midday have another piece of fruit and right before bed. Tip: Always eat fruit on an empty stomach. Pomegranates, berries, grapes, apricots, and the seeds of these fruits are full of antioxidants and disease prevention properties. Juice the seeds right along with the skins. * Get plenty of sunshine on your skin – This is the best way, and in my opinion, the only way to receive Vitamin D into our system properly. Why are we so afraid of the sun? Because people have abused it, and now we’re afraid of it. We absolutely NEED sunshine on our skin. Stop wearing sunSee SUPER FOODS on Page 32

The 5 Best Probiotic Foods For Good Gut Health

A simple way to improve your digestion is by eating more fermented foods. That’s because they contain probiotics that: Encourage the right balance of good bacteria in your digestive tract so it can filter out harmful toxins, chemicals, and waste Offset bad bacteria caused by poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, and environmental toxins to maintain a healthy gut barrier Research also shows probiotics can support a healthy immune system and may have protective effects against everything from IBS, constipation, and bloating to autoimmune disorders like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis [1,2,3]. CHOOSE THESE BEST PROBIOTIC FOODS FOR A HEALTHY GUT You can reap the benefits of probiotics every day by eating the following best probiotic foods. They’re rich in that good bacteria needed for a healthy gut! FERMENTED VEGETABLES The best way to get probiotics and fiber is from whole, fermented vegetables. Sauerkraut and kimchi are the best low-carb choices. SAUERKRAUT Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage high in organic acids and enzymes. It contains probiotics, fiber, vitamins B, C, and K, iron, manganese, folate, copper, and potassium, all

Zone! Look for full-fat, organic and/or grass-fed yogurt from cows, sheep, or goats as much as possible. These options are more nutritious and less likely to contain pesticides, antibiotics, or hormones along with that beneficial bacterium. LOW-SUGAR KOMBUCHA Kombucha is a fermented black or green tea full of probiotics, enzymes, and beneficial vitamins and minerals for gut health. Kombucha has a range of health benefits for your digestion, immunity, joint health, and detoxification. Make sure the kombucha is: A low-sugar brand, as many important for gut health and overall wellness. KIMCHI Kimchi is a reddish cabbage fermented with salt, garlic, vinegar, chili peppers, and other spices. A very popular condiment in Korea, kimchi is rich in probiotics and has lots of benefits. Besides supporting your gut with healthy bacteria, several studies have shown eating fermented kimchi may significantly decrease blood pressure, BMI, weight, total cholesterol, fasting, and more [4,5,6]. Note: Eat sauerkraut and kimchi in small, condiment-sized portions, as large amounts may cause bacterial imbalance. MILK OR WATER KEFIR Kefir is fermented and cultured drink made from a combination of yeast, bacteria, and either milk or water. Kefir is great for healing gut and digestion function. Although kefir initially contains sugar, its bacteria eat up that sugar, making it a keto-friendly food. It also contains calcium and protein (if made with milk), B vitamins, and potassium. UNSWEETENED YOGURT Yogurt can be a great probiotic keto snack. But make sure it has no added carbs from sugar or fruits, as these will take you out of the Keto

kombucha varieties have a lot of sugar that will kick you out of the Keto Zone (check the sugar and net carb grams to be sure) Packaged in a dark glass bottle, as too much UV light can kill the good bacteria inside Organic, raw, and unpasteurized (pasteurization kills the friendly probiotics!) If you can’t find low sugar kombucha, probiotic vinegar is a good alternative that’s still highly beneficial. Boost your gut health daily by See GUT HEALTH on Page 32

Guiding Light The Devil Has Been Put On Notice

Woe to those who inhabit the earth and of the sea! For, the devil has come down unto you having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time. (Revelation 12:12) As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to be constantly aware that the devil is out to destroy us. Therefore, Paul says, we need to know as much as we can about the enemy's tactics and plans: Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11). While many Christians slumber at this midnight hour, just as Jesus predicted, the devil is working ferociously, making preparation for war. He is keenly aware of the short time he has to accomplish his evil purposes, so he gives his eyes no

rest. He is ever scheming, ever devising ways to harass and destroy the church of Jesus Christ! So, when did the devil first realize his time was short? Did this knowledge come to him over the past century, as he read the signs of the times? Did he realize it as the nation of Israel was reborn, and nation began rising against nation? Did he recognize it when he saw a great falling away from the Christian faith? Did he suddenly deduct from biblical references regarding these events that Jesus was about to return for His bride? And when the devil came to this realization that his time was short, did he fly into a panic? Did he scramble to set up a war room on earth, planning a last-ditch, frantic battle against the church? Did he say to himself, time is slipping away? I've got to work fast, because I have only a short time before Christ returns! No! Satan's deadline was given to him centuries ago. It can be traced to a great wonder that took place in the heavens. This wonder was an incredible warfare, when Satan determined to destroy the Christ child: And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. The sun in this passage represents God. And the woman clothed with the sun represents Christ's bride, or God's chosen people. (She's crowned with twelve stars, which stand for the twelve tribes of Israel, as well as the twelve disciples.) Finally, the child to be born here is Jesus, the Deliverer. The passage continues: There appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon [the devil] having seven

heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. Satan is pictured here as waiting on the earth to destroy the Christ child as it was born. And oh, how often the devil tried to devour Jesus! Satan first used Herod to try to destroy Christ, ordering the evil king to murder all the male babies in Bethlehem. Herod's exceeding anger was a demonic rage an incarnation of the devil himself! You might wonder, If Herod was Satan-possessed, why didn't the devil point out to him which child was Christ? Why did all male babies have to be killed? The Lord blinded Satan's eyes! As this passage tells us, God hid Christ from the enemy for a season: She brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. Next, scripture says, there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels and prevailed not. This war was waged by Satan against the son of God and the devil lost. He was overcome by the blood of the cross, defeated once and for all! Moreover, Satan lost his access to heaven: neither was their place found any more in heaven. That old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. At one time the devil's movements weren't limited to the earth. Job tells us, there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them (Job 1:6). The devil must have come before God's throne frequently as the accuser of the brethren. But today Satan no longer has God's ear. He can't accuse God's children of anything anymore because Christ's blood has prevailed over all his lies! Jesus’ intercession for us now has nothing to do with refuting Satan's accusations. As far as God is concerned, the victory of the cross negated them all! Satan may lie to you, giving you no rest from his accusations. But he can't accuse you to the heavenly father. He's been banned from heaven and all his accusations are meaningless! Hallelujah! Save The Nations Ministries >

SUPER FOODS Continued from Page 30 screen if you can voluntarily get out of the sun! Not getting enough sun is making people sick! When you first go out into the sun for the season, don’t sit or lay in it for three hours and burn. Work your skin up to getting used to the sun’s rays. Only bathe for 15 minutes for the first week. Then on the second week bathe for ½ hour. The third week bathe for a little bit longer. Skin cancer is caused from abuse of the sun. Just like all illness and disease is caused from abuse of something. If we take too many vitamins, we’ll get sick from them. Everything that we do in life, even if it is good for us, should be done in moderation. Tip: Being in the sun is how the body absorbs calcium in the body properly, so, it is two vitamins that we receive from getting adequate amounts of sun on our skin. The 16 Most Popular Home Improvements RAMSEY SOLUTIONS

Television schedules are packed to the rafters (see what we did there?) with shows about home improvements. Tell us: Are you more of a Fixer Upper person or an Extreme Makeover person? But it’s one thing to watch a TV show about home improvements . . . and another thing to do it yourself! If you’re thinking about renovating your house, you probably have questions. Like, what is the most popular home renovation? What

renovations will make your house worth more? And which common home improvements should you think twice about before heading in with the sledgehammer? Those are all great questions—so let’s get some answers! What Are the Most Popular Home Improvement Projects? People renovate their homes for lots of reasons, like to increase their home's value, help sell it, or make the most of their space for them-

selves and their family. And those are all great things! But you know what isn’t great. Jumping into a renovation without a plan. Many people just choose materials they want without really thinking about the cost. All those expensive floors, cabinets and other fixtures add up—especially when it comes to luxury options. And when the contractor runs into problems that need to be fixed? Sure, just slap that on the tab too! It’s all fun and games until the bill comes due. If that’s how you handle your renovation, you’ll end up overspending—or worse, going into debt to finish the project. No, thanks! That’s not what you want. It’s important to plan for the costs of any home improvement project. And by plan, we mean find out what it typically costs, know what you’re willing to spend, and stick to that budget like glue. Then when your project is done, you can celebrate in your newly remodeled, debt-free space. How awesome is that! To help you get started, here are

the most popular house renovations—plus what they typically cost. The Most Popular Indoor Home Improvements Minor Kitchen Remodel: $26,200 The kitchen is the heart of any home, and a minor remodel could include replacing cabinet doors, countertops, lighting, flooring, and appliances. The great thing about a minor kitchen remodel (compared to starting from scratch) is the return on your investment. If you sell your house, you could get back around 70% of the money you spent. And if you’re staying? Upgrading your kitchen is well worth it if you spend a lot of time in there! Midrange Bathroom Remodel: $24,400 Bathroom remodeling is big business! House buyers love to see a bright, modern bathroom, which is why it’s such a popular room to renovate. Updates include refreshing shower areas, replacing vanities and toilets, See IMPROVEMENTS on Page 35

Freedom and Flexibility.

That’s a Good Thing. Bucket-list vacation? State-of-the-art kitchen remodel? Paying off a high-interest debt? Let the equity in your home pay you back for all the years you’ve paid into it. FINANCIAL

IMPROVEMENTS Continued from Page 34 fitting new countertops, or adding fixtures and lighting. Aim for midrange fixtures—they have the same visual impact as the high-end options, but they won’t break the bank! Midrange Master Suite Addition: $156,700 Who doesn’t love extra bedrooms and bathrooms? This is a popular house renovation because it adds value and living space, which is especially great if you have a growing family. A master suite (that’s a bedroom with its own private bathroom, walk-in closet and maybe a dressing area) is one of the most expensive home improvements! It will add value to your home and improve your chances of selling it. But if you’re doing this just for resale purposes, talk to a real estate agent about your proposed changes to make sure they’re worth it. If you do want a master suite but you’re not sure where to put it, try the attic! Another way to use the attic for less: Turn it into a spare bedroom— no plumbing needed. Or save money and still create a master suite by adding a bathroom and walk-in closet to an existing bedroom. Basement Remodel: $21,550 Basements are no longer the setting for creepy scenes in horror movies! These days, they work as game rooms, gyms, family rooms or even your personal bar. The options are endless, so plan wisely in the beginning to avoid out-ofcontrol construction costs. And remember, basements are a magnet for excess water. You should have a pro inspect it for potential damage or future problems before you start remodeling. That way, you won’t have to make any repairs after you install your rotating karaoke stage. The Most Popular Outdoor

Home Improvements Landscaping: $3,600 American homeowners love landscaping. Fresh landscaping makes a great first impression—and you know how important that is. So, head to your local garden center for advice about how to spruce up your yard. They can help you choose the right plants and decorations. They can even tell you how to attract local wildlife (or repel them if that’s not your thing). Composite Deck Addition: $22,400 What better way is there to spend a beautiful summer evening than outside on your deck with family and friends? Outdoor living areas (including those with a firepit, grill or wet bar) are becoming more common. The average cost of a deck depends on the materials you use to build it. Wooden decks are cheaper, but composite decks last longer (which could save you money in the long run). New Front Door: $2,000 Replacing your front door is an easy change that makes a big impact. A steel door isn’t as expensive as a solid wood one, but it can still make a stylish impression and give your home an instant facelift. New Exterior Veneer: $10,400 Installing veneer (like manufactured stone) instantly transforms the look of your home. Plus, it holds value really well: If you sell the house, you’ll get back over 90% of the money you spent adding stone veneer. A change of siding can also modernize the exterior of your home and give it more curb appeal. But keep in mind that siding costs more—and you won’t get as much money back when you sell. New Vinyl Windows: $19,400 Windows are important. After all, they protect your home from the ele-

FINANCIAL IMPROVEMENTS Continued from Page 35 The lifespan of an asphalt roof is around 20–30 years. So, if it’s heading for that age, it’s time for a new one! If you’re selling, a new roof makes it easier to find home buyers. After all, who wants to buy a house knowing they’ll need to fork over tons of cash for a new roof as soon as they move in? If you’re staying, consider how much the roof costs and how long it lasts. For example, metal roofs cost almost twice as much as asphalt . . . but they last anywhere from 20–60 years longer! In either case, get a professional who can inspect your current roof and tell you the truth about its condition. And then get some advice on what type of roof will work best for your budget and home. Attic Insulation: $1,900 If your attic isn’t properly insulated, it’ll not only hit your pocket when you pay utility bills, but it could also be a problem during a home inspection when it’s time to sell. Installing new fiberglass insulation will help lower those bills and add value to your home! New HVAC: $7,000 The average heat, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) unit usually

lasts 10–15 years. So, it’s an important renovation if you know your unit is reaching its expiration date. Home buyers love to know they won’t have to foot this cost. And if you’re staying in the house long term, a newer, more efficient HVAC can save you a bundle on utilities. Keep in mind, the cost to replace one depends on the size of the unit and whether you upgrade the ductwork at the same time. Hardwood Flooring Installation: $4,500 The average cost to add hardwood floors all depends on how much flooring you want to install. Generally, you can count on paying $6–12 per square foot. Hardwood floors add value to your home because they last longer than carpeting, they’re easier to clean, and they look great. New Walk-In Shower: $6,000 A walk-in shower adds value to your home because it’s what most buyers want. Bathtubs are okay, but they take up a lot of space, and some homeowners may have difficulty getting in and out of them. A well-finished walk-in shower is easier to use, and you can make it extra fancy by adding power jets or a spa system.

Bathroom Additions: $56,900 In the real estate business, it’s a well-known fact that people love having more bathrooms than bedrooms. If your home only has one main bathroom, think about creating another. If you don’t have space or want to save money, you could opt to add a powder room instead. But, again, if you’re upgrading just to sell, talk to a professional first. How Do I Decide What Home Improvements to Do? So many choices! We put together some dos and don’ts to help you figure out what you should renovate and how much you should spend. Here are the things you should do: • Prioritize. There’s no sense impressing the neighbors with awesome landscaping when your roof is about to collapse. Figure out if you need a new roof, insulation, HVAC or windows. These are important structural parts of a home you need to consider before adding luxury or decorative features. Once you’re sure you don’t need them, move on to the renovations you have your eye on! • Think about your goals. If you’re staying in the home, choose house renovations that

will improve your quality of life the most. And if you’re selling, choose common home improvements that attract buyers and get the best bang for your buck. Set a budget—and stick to it. Home improvements are great . . . when you can afford them! Make a budget and stick to it. (Pro tip: Throw in a little extra cash to deal with unexpected repairs or problems that pop up along the way.) • Walk around your neighborhood. Home buyers will indirectly compare your house to others nearby, so look at what your neighbors have renovated. You can also check local listings online to see what types of interior house renovations they’ve done. • Find out how much your home and others in your neighborhood are worth. That will help you make a wise decision about how much money to put into renovations. You don’t want your house to become the most expensive one in the neighborhood—that makes it much harder to sell in the future. • Renovate a little at a time. Can’t See IMPROVEMENTS on Page

Turning The World’s Greatest Vice Into The World’s Greatest Virtue (A Lesson from the Cross) tal and labor is basically selfish. One battles to retain wealth while the other strives for a greater distribution of it. Social position is another battleground between the blue bloods listed in the social register and those who want to be listed. So those on top because of heredity, wealth, or position fight to stay there and those who would be there struggle up the social ladder. Basically, both groups are selfish. Let us shift now from collective situations to the more personal, individual vices. What is gambling? It is a selfish desire to get something for nothing. What is drunkenness? It is a selfish habit to satisfy a normal thirst illegitimately. What is prostitution? It is a selfish practice to get money by turning a priceless virtue into a horrible vice. What is lying? It is a selfish (Matthew 10:39) If you were device to protect oneself after asked what is the world's greatest wrong conduct or to help one's self vice? What would be your answer? Well, here it is: "The world's to improper ends. What is stealing? It is a selfish greatest vice is selfishness." selfish practice to make Sunday a day of physical pleasure instead of a day of divine worship. What is idolatry? It is a selfish worshipping of things that give personal gratification instead of worshipping God. Covetousness, envy, jealousy, anger, hatred, animosity, and revenge all find their base and cause in selfishness. For a moment, let’s look at the Ten Commandments. Idol worship, lying, stealing, murder, adultery, covetousness, false witnessing, dishonoring of parents, the cause of the violation of any of the commandments or all is selfishness. Yes, I think it is conclusive and noncontroversial that selfishness is the world-wide vice. So, what is selfishness? The answer is sin. Sin is putting self against God. Sin is acting contrary to God's will to further one's selfish interests. Sin is taking advantage of others to satisfy personal, selfish desires. Sin is satisfy-

ing normal appetites in an abnormal way to satisfy selfish wants. Sin began in heaven when Lucifer selfishly desired to make himself God. Sin began on earth when Adam selfishly satisfied a desire contrary to God's known law. And so, it has been ever since. Selfishness is a sinful expression of a desire, appetite, or instinct in an illegitimate, illegal way. Happiness never comes from selfishness. In fact, it is a result of just the opposite. Service to God and others results in happiness to self. Jesus enunciated this great principle of successful living: "He that finds his life shall lose it, but he that loses his life for My sake shall find it" (Matt. 10:39). Surrender yourself to something bigger and beyond yourself and you will find yourself. Surrender yourself to Christ and He will give Himself to you. See VIRTUE on Page 39

Prayer: Real Or Routine? By Doug Gilford

“Prayer is not working, why even try?” He said to me. “Doesn’t God already know what I am going through? What is the point?” He slumped into his seat. I can remember many times when people say things like this to me. Naturally, I assume they have not yet understood what biblical New Testament prayer looks like. This person represents many people. Over twenty years of meeting and talking with people in the role of a pastor, this question often comes up in our meetings. And for twenty years I have searched and studied to find one single response to why we pray. Sure, anyone can give short oneliners to answer this question; but I want to have a solid, biblical answer that is understandable and relatable to offer. As a result of deep study, I could write a full book about my findings. Please allow me to share a summary of what I have discovered. The first thing we must come to

terms with is: What is our definition of prayer. Is it from a memorized, prescription we learned in the church along the way, or is it from the heart of a child speaking to their Father? My first finding is the latter. When we come to God in prayer we should come like a child to a Father. The disciples saw Jesus praying all the time in His short ministry life, and they finally get the nerve to ask Him, “Lord, teach us to pray like John taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1). It is interesting to me that they could have asked for training in many other things like, “Show us how to feed 5000 people with a few loaves and fish.” Or “Teach us how to raise the dead.” Or “Can you show us how you changed the water into wine?” Instead, they approached Jesus about His prayer life because they saw powerful things occur after He spent time with the Father in prayer. The answer Jesus gave them may have been an unlikely one, yet an important one. The Lord answered the disciples this way, “When you pray say, Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.” Although, today in America and across the globe we call this prayer the “Lord’s prayer.” But certainly, we should call it. “The Lord’s instruction on how to pray” At nearly every funeral I have presided over for two decades, we have all recited this as a ritual. Having overlooked the most important two words, “Our Father.” This prayer has more to do with

VIRTUE Continued from Page 38 Turn the world's greatest vice, selfishness into the world's greatest virtue, service and if you do, you will merit happiness yourself and bring happiness to others. Sing and pray with the poet All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give. I will ever love and serve Him, In His presence daily live. Francis of Assisi embodied the truth of this sermon in his famous prayer: "Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there

is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. "O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen." Save The Nations Ministries >

The Christian Journey the “how” to pray instead of the “what” to pray. And what Jesus tells us is that when we pray, we humble ourselves as children and approach God as a Father. “Our Father, hallowed be your name.” As the disciples wondered what perfect prayer should look like, don’t we? I submit, yes, we do. Don’t we all want to know that Heaven is listening when we cry out? It starts, with knowing God as a Father, and we, his children. This is not the first time Christ represented God as a father to us. Jesus says, “If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone?” (Luke 11:11) Jesus is using a dramatic contrast to illustrate that it would be ridiculous for an earthly father to give his child a rock to eat when he is hungry for food. Jesus proceeds two verses later to complete this thought by saying, “how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” What a contrast! If earthly dads

take care of their kids, the heavenly One will give us so much more, even the Holy Spirit! The Lord’s Prayer as we know it needs to be more than a rote, ritualistic recitation. Our prayer life should start with saying, “Hello Father it is me again.” It can be that real and intimate. God is a Father to those who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. When we pray, our Father hears us. I want to encourage you to talk to God. When you do, let it be from your heart to an enthusiastic Father who wants His best for our lives.

Jesus, The Friend Of Sinners

Perhaps you think you’ve sinned too much — that there is no hope for you. But Jesus has always reached out to sinners. In (Luke 15:1-2), the Pharisees were questioning Him about this. Then, Jesus answered them with a three-part parable describing a little more about the character of man and a lot more about the character of God. The Sinful Nature of Man Man Is Weak Like a Sheep. In (Luke 15:4-7), Jesus compares man to sheep, and that’s not a compliment. Sheep are very weak animals. A sheep is not very smart either: you may see a trained elephant, horse, or dog, but not a trained sheep. A sheep is defenseless: a horse can run; a wolf can bite; and a cat can scratch; but a sheep cannot defend itself. And a sheep is dependent: when it lies down to digest its food, a sheep will sometimes find itself on its back unable to get up. Then, it

will bloat and soon die. Like a sheep, we too are weak. We need a Shepherd to guide, protect; and lift us up. Man Is Worthless Like a Lost Coin. (Luke 15:8-10) tells of a woman who has lost a silver coin. Jesus was referring to ten coins that would have been given to a woman by her husband. To have one missing would indicate unfaithfulness. Her coin was lost in darkness, dirt, and disgrace. Like this coin, an unsaved man is lost in darkness and in the filth and disgrace of his sin. Man Is Wretched Like a Lost Son. Finally, beginning in (Luke 15:11), Jesus refers to a son who left his father and chose to live a rebellious life. His sin led to depression, deprivation, and starvation. And like this son, there is a gnawing hunger in every man’s heart who does not know the Lord Jesus Christ. The Saving Nature of God We have just seen man’s hopelessness apart from God. But Jesus showed us the sinful nature of man so He could explain the saving nature of God. The Shepherd shows the rescuing nature of the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 10:11) says, “I am the good Shep-

herd: the good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.” Jesus’ nature is to seek the lost. He came not primarily as a teacher or a healer but as a Savior. (Luke 19:10) says, “For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” The woman shows the revealing nature of the Holy Spirit. To find her coin, the woman lit a candle. That’s what God the Holy Spirit wants to do in your heart. And the woman also began to sweep her house. Through conviction, the Holy Spirit will sweep and stir up all the filth and dirt in your life to reveal your condition. The father shows the receiving nature of God the Father. (Luke 15:20) says, “… when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.” This is one of the most moving pictures in all the Bible. What a picture of God the Father. Come Home An old preacher sat across the aisle from a young man on a train. He could see the boy was troubled. He went over and said, “Son, I’m a minister. I don’t want to pry, but do you have a problem?” The boy said, “Yes, sir. Many years

ago, I had a fight with my parents. I left home and slammed the door behind me. I said I would never come back.” He said, “I have received word that my daddy is sick, and I don’t want him to die without apologizing to him and asking his forgiveness.” He continued, “These tracks run close to my house, and out by the tracks is a large tree. I told them if they would let me come home, to tie a handkerchief on that tree. If I don’t see it, I will know to keep riding.” The preacher said, “You pray, and I’ll look.” And the old preacher in his heart said, “O God, let there be a handkerchief on that tree.” The train came around a curve, and he said, “Son, look!” That old couple had gotten every handkerchief, every towel, and every bed sheet that was white and put them in that tree. It looked like a mountain of snow. God loves you! The good Shepherd is seeking you; the Holy Spirit is shining His light on you; and God the Father has His arms open wide. Come home! CHRISTIAN LIVING

Death Leads To The Good Life

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” – Jesus Christ, (Luke 9:23-25 (ESV) ) It is one of the foundational paradoxes of grace. You cannot understand God’s work of redemption if you don’t pursue this theological paradox: Death leads to life. How would you define “the good life”? What do you feel you can’t live without? What can make or break your day? What do others have that causes

you to envy? If you could acquire just one thing, what would it be? What does your use of money tell you about what’s important to you? What would the video of your last six weeks reveal about what has you in its hold? Is there a place where you’re asking the creation to do what only the Creator can? Because creation is so obvious— you can see it, taste it, feel it, and smell it—it’s tempting to look to it to deliver “the good life.” But creation was made to point us to the Creator, who alone has the power to satisfy our longing hearts. He is the bread that will satisfy our hunger. He is the living water that makes us thirst no longer. Looking to creation to do what it was not meant to do will not only disappoint us, but it will also enslave us. Idols never just disappoint us; they addict us as well. Because the buzz of joy that creation gives us is so short, we must go back again and again, and soon we’re convinced we cannot live without the next hit. What we tight-

ly hold onto takes hold of us, now commanding of us what only God should ever control: our hearts. And what holds our hearts will dictate our words and behavior. During this Easter season, we are called to remember that sin reduces us all to idolaters of creation somehow. Lent gives us a time in the calendar year to pause and reflect on created things that have taken too strong a hold on us, things that we have come to crave too intensely and love too dearly. If someone doesn’t rescue us from our idolatrous and worldly pursuit of “the good life,” we will lose our lives. We must die if we are ever going to live. Death leads to life. Coming to Jesus is not a negotiation, an agreement, or a contract. Coming to Jesus is a death—your death. Christ died so that you may live. Now He asks you to lose your life so that you may find life in him—real, abundant, and eternal life. Don’t fight the death of your old life; instead, celebrate the new life that is yours by grace and grace

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He may give it to you. John 15:16

Distracted From God's Purpose

An Urgent Message By David Wilkerson

By Dr. Tony Evans But pleasing God is more important than pleasing men. God wants us to live for Him and His glory, and to do that we must sometimes go against what other people want. When it comes to fulfilling our calling, what matters is what God wants us to do. Another distraction from moving forward in God's purpose is dealing with the past. Paul said: "I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing is forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14). We all have regrets, but Paul said we are not to allow our yesterdays to determine our tomorrows. Instead of living with a rear-view mirror mentality, we should focus on the windshield and the big picture that is in front of us. One Minute Please Don't let yesterday mess up today, which will ruin tomorrow.

In His Presence: Whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ (Philippians 3:7). Position is a distraction—everybody wants to be somebody. When you accepted Christ, you became somebody, but if you are seeking position independently of God's purpose, you have been duped by the deceiver. Your name may be up in lights today, but years from now people won't remember your name. Remember the apostle Paul was quite a man in his day and age, but he said that his claim to fame was only that he was a bondservant of Jesus Christ. People also become distracted from their purpose when they spend their lives living for other people. Prescription, OTC Medications, Immunizations and Compounded Medications

I am compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message to friends and to church leaders we have met all over the world. An earth-shattering calamity is about to happen. It is going to be so frightening that we are all going to tremble, even the godliest among us. We are under God’s wrath. In the psalms, it is written, “For look! The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow on the string, that they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:2-3). In (Psalm 11:6), David warns, “Upon the wicked He will rain coals; fire and brimstone and a burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.” This is a righteous judgment, just as in the judgments of Sodom and in Noah’s generation. The prophet Jeremiah pleaded with wicked Israel, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you. Return now everyone from his evil way and make your ways and

your doings good.’” (Jeremiah 18:11). Instead of repenting, though, “They said, ‘That is hopeless! So, we will walk according to our own plans, and we will everyone obey the dictates of his evil heart.’” (Jeremiah 18:12). God is judging the raging sins of America and the nations, but what about God’s people? What shall the righteous do? For our spiritual reaction, we have two options. This is outlined in (Psalm 11). We can “flee like a bird to a mountain”; or do as the psalmist did: “In the Lord I put my trust” because “He loves righteousness; his countenance beholds the upright”. I will say to my soul, “No need to run. No need to hide. This is God’s righteous work. I will behold our Lord on his throne with his eye of loving kindness, watching over every step I take. I will trust that he will deliver his people even through floods, fires and calamities of all kinds.” I do not know when these things will come to pass, but I know it is not far off. Earth's Saddest Failure "A bruised reed he will not break" (Matthew 12:20) Christ is building His kingdom with earth's broken people. Men want only the strong, the successful, the victorious, the whole — in building their kingdoms. But God is the God of the unsuccessful, of those who have failed. Heaven is filled with earth's broken lives, and there is no bruised reed whom Christ cannot take and restore to glorious blessedness and beauty. He can take a life

The True Vine: 1. The Vine By Andrew Murray

I am the True Vine--(John 15.1) All earthly things are the shadows of heavenly realities--the expression, in created, visible forms, of the invisible glory of God. The Life and the Truth are in Heaven; on earth we have figures and shadows of the heavenly truths. When Jesus says: "I am the true Vine," He tells us that all the vines of earth are pictures and emblems of Himself. He is the divine reality, of which they are the created expression. They all point to Him, and preach Him, and reveal Him. If you would know Jesus, study the vine. How many eyes have gazed on and admired a great vine with its beautiful fruit? Come and gaze on the heavenly Vine till your eye turns from all else to admire Him.

How many, in a sunny clime, sit and rest under the shadow of a vine. Be still under the shadow of the true Vine, and rest under it from the heat of the day. What countless numbers rejoice in the fruit of the vine! Come, and take, and eat of the heavenly fruit of the true Vine, and let your soul say: "I sat under His shadow with great delight, and His fruit was sweet to my taste." I am the true Vine. --This is a heavenly mystery. The earthly vine can teach you much about this Vine of Heaven. Many interesting and beautiful points of comparison suggest themselves and help us to get conceptions of what Christ meant. But such thoughts do not teach us to know what the heavenly Vine really is, in its cooling shade, and its lifegiving fruit. The experience of this is part of the hidden mystery, which none but Jesus Himself, by His Holy Spirit, can unfold and impart. I am the true Vine. --The vine is the living Lord, who Himself speaks, and gives, and works all that He has for us. If you would know the meaning and power of that word, do not think to find it by

thought or study; these may help to show you what you must get from Him to awaken desire, hope, and prayer, but they cannot show you the Vine. Jesus alone can reveal Himself. He gives His Holy Spirit to open the eyes to gaze upon Himself, to open the heart to receive Himself. He must Himself speak the word to you and me. I am the true Vine. --And what am I to do, if I want the mystery, in all its heavenly beauty and blessing, opened to me? With what you already know of the parable, bow down and be still, worship and wait, until the divine Word enters your heart, and you feel His holy presence with you, and in you. The overshadowing of His holy love will give you the perfect calm and rest of knowing that the Vine will do all. I am the true Vine. --He who speaks is God, in His infinite power able to enter us. He is man, one with us. He is the crucified One, who won a perfect righteousness and a divine life for us through His death. He is the glorified One, who from the throne

gives His Spirit to make His presence real and true. He speaks--oh, listen, not to His words only, but to Himself, as He whispers secretly day by day: "I am the true Vine! All that the Vine can ever be to its branch, "I will be to you." Holy Lord Jesus, the heavenly Vine of God's own planting, I beseech Thee, reveal Thyself to my soul. Let the Holy Spirit, not only in thought, but in experience, give me to know all that Thou, the Son of God, art to me as the true Vine. © 2022 oChristian. com. All Rights Reserved >

and power of sin. The cross of Christ made way for man to be not only forgiven, but also delivered from the powers of sin. The cross said to mankind, God loves you as you are, but also loves you too much to leave you as you are. So why is there evidence pointing toward a lack of power to live as God intended? Why is faith all over the place? Once faith has been moved away from trusting in Jesus the Christ and His sacrifice alone, we are left with belief and trust in our faith or belief and trust in our abilities. Both of these are of the world and that my friend is spiritual adultery. The darkest powers of sin have ruled in hearts since the first fall of man. However, it seems that this darkness has reached another level of seared conscience. It is simply humanism reaching yet another peak. To believe that mankind is generally good, is false and gives false hope. To believe that our own experiences can drive us to ultimately live good lives on our own, leads one into arrogance. As the centrality of the cross fades, so goes the heart and emphasis of man’s focus. The preaching of the cross is the power of God to them that are saved and foolishness to the lost. In the book of Romans, Paul speaks to battles with the sin nature, and failure to overcome it without faith completely in the finished work of Christ. Some say this was Paul before conversion but the language used does not agree. Prior to salvation one is rarely, if ever, so concerned regarding sin. Paul understood and taught, what much of the modern Church has neglected. Man’s salvation, deliverance and walk in sanctification is based only within the parameters of our faith in the cross (the completed work of Christ). Go back with me to that day.

The Cross For A World Gone Mad By Bernard Capello (1 Corinthians 1:17, 18) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (Galatians 6:14) But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. “How do you know where you will be after your last breath?” As I spoke to a group of men, varying in age, I posed that question. To my surprise, only one of this group, the youngest, answered with an assured understanding that was in no way sounded either arrogant or 10/25/21, 5:20 PM

the other end of the spectrum, beaten down. He assured me it was none of his doing but all about what Jesus the Christ did. I heard everything from that group; “I don’t believe in all this nonsense”, “I am a good guy, I don’t hurt anybody”, “I go to church”, to the common one I heard more than once that day, “I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I said a prayer.” So, why am I not surprised? If our answer as to gaining eternal life in the presence of God is anything but in the third person speech, we are walking through the broad gate. It is only because of the greatest victory, accomplished by Jesus the Christ that we should not perish. The cross made a pure statement while displaying the compassion and drawing of the Holy Spirit to those who are under the penalty

Can you see the lightening and hear the thunder roll in claps of power as the day turns dark? Can you hear those most binding words “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do?” (Luke 23:34) Would you stand a moment longer and hear “it is finished” as the stinging tears of the Father pour upon the earth that He created? Can you hear both the heaving cries or sorrow and laughing jeers of mockery from the crowd? Hanging between man’s willful denial and full acceptance, He poured His life as the spotless, sinless Lamb of God. The truth of the cross is not an option, it is not an addition to, it is an ultimatum. We do not need a new thing; we need to get back to the old thing. A.W. Tozer – from “Man, the Dwelling Place of God”, “The Old Cross and The New” “The new cross encourages a new and entirely different evangelistic approach. The evangelist does not demand abnegation of the old life before a new life can be received. He preaches not contrasts but similarities. He seeks to key into public interest by showing that Christianity makes no unpleasant demands; rather, it offers the same thing the world does, only on a higher level. Whatever the sin-mad world happens to be clamoring after at the moment is cleverly shown to be the very thing the gospel offers, only the religious product is b e t t e r. The new cross does not slay the sinner, it redirects him. It gears him into a cleaner and jollier way of living and saves his selfrespect. To the self-assertive it says, "Come and assert yourself for Christ." To the egotist it says, "Come and do your boasting in the Lord." To the thrill-seeker it says, "Come and enjoy the thrill of Christian fellowship." The Christian message is slanted in the direction of the current vogue in order to make it acceptable to the public. The philosophy back of this kind of thing may be sincere but its sincerity does not save it from being false. It is false because it is blind. It misses completely the whole meaning of the cross”. >

"Plan Of Salvation" You Can Be Born Again By Samuel Mills

Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hears My voice, and opens the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with Me." (Rev 3:20). God so Loved the World "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him would not perish, but have ever lasting life," (John 3:16). The above Scripture tells us that those who accept Jesus into their life/heart will receive a Glorious Everlasting life with Him in Heaven, but those who refuse will perish, meaning they will receive an eternal damnation with Satan in Hell. Jesus lived a sinless life while on this earth. He alone was worthy and Holy enough to die on the cross to pay for your sins.

The decision to be born again is one that only you can make; no one else can do it for you. But when you do, He will be with you to comfort, guide, help, and counsel all your earthly days, and when your life on earth is over, you will spend eternity in Heaven with Him. What a wonderful plan of salvation! Born Again Becoming born again will be a decision you will never regret, a decision that will take you through eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All it takes is to believe in your heart, and to profess (say) out loud that you believe in God, and that Jesus is God's Son who came here to die for your sins. "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved" (Rom 10:9-10). When you believe the Scripture above, and can make the above statements of faith, you can ask Jesus to come into your heart, and He will. And you can do that right now. Sometimes people are overly concerned with using the correct words in their prayer to become born again, but they shouldn't because Jesus already knows what is in their heart.

Child, pure, clean, and white as snow, "free from blame and guilt." Find a local Church and request to be baptized and begin to associate with other Christians. Ask the questions you are sure to have about your new life in Christ. Get your own Bible. There are several good versions, the "King James Version" is my favorite, and the "New King James Version" is easy to understand. You are now a babe in Christ. When Satan tries to interfere with your new Christian life, remember that God's Holy Spirit is always with you and that His power is much greater than Satan's. Read your Bible every day and learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to lead you into all truth. You will grow in your knowledge and understanding of God's Word and will soon become a mature Christian. Be sure to tell others about your new life in Christ. The Angels in Heaven Rejoiced! He knows they want to be born again and filled with His Holy Spirit, and that is all that counts. So, the specific words you use are not what is most important. However, if it will help you feel more secure, to speak the exact words, you can follow the prayer below. Everything God does is perfect meaning that your Salvation is secure throughout eternity. If you have previously asked Christ into your heart and for any reason, feel you have slipped or are uncertain about your salvation you can ask Jesus into your heart once again, and then there can be no doubt. "The Sinner's Prayer" is prayed by those who have the desire to be born again. The Sinner's Prayer For Those who Desire to become Born-Again "Lord Jesus, I believe in God and that you are the Son of God as recorded in Your Word. I realize that I am a sinner, and I believe you died for my sins. I now turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and ask for a new life with you. I ask you to come into my heart and life. I receive you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me, Amen." Your New Christian Life If you have prayed the above prayer, God now sees you as His

VICTORIOUS LIVING

The Fruit of the Spirit By Alistair Begg

We don’t have to look far to see that our world is broken—desperately ill and seemingly falling apart at every seam. Indeed, the Bible tells us that since the time of (Genesis 3), creation has been “subjected to futility” (Rom. 8:20). In the face of such futility, what are we to make of (Galatians 5:22’s) identification of joy as part of the fruit of the Spirit? Is genuine joy just a pipedream? Apart from God, the answer is a resounding yes. But one who has come to know God in Jesus Christ is able to speak of a cure for the ailing, despairing soul. For the Christian, joy’s foundation is found not in something we feel but in something we know. It is to know that Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, has forgiven us. It is to know that He loved us and died for us so that we can be free of accusation. It is

to know that when our consciences accuse us, when we’re aware of our weaknesses, failures, and lack of power to live as God intends, we are driven again and again back to the rock of our salvation. When we know these things, then and only then can the very joy of the Lord be our strength (Neh. 8:10). Let us take some time, then, to consider further what the hymn writer refers to as the “solid joys” and the “lasting treasure” that “none but Zion’s children know.” Our Only Hope The Heidelberg Catechism begins by asking, “What is your only comfort in life and death?” It then provides a stirring answer: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salva-

tion. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him. This response points us toward what we know of God and His salvation as the source of our everlasting comfort. Question 2 then goes on to consider how this reality leads to our joy: “What do you need to know in order to live and die in the joy of this comfort?” The answer: “First, how great my sin and misery are; second, how I am delivered from all my sins and misery; third, how I am to be thankful to God for such deliverance.” If we are to find ourselves on a journey to joy instead of a road to ruin, we need to consider the three elements of this reply, which we can sum up as guilt, grace, and gratitude. 1. Guilt Guilt is not a comfortable subject. After all, discussions of remorse, penitence, shame, and the like often cause us to feel—well, guilty! But without an understanding of the reality of guilt, there can be no awareness of grace or expres-

sion of gratitude. Sin, according to the Bible, is our shared condition, the default state of every human soul. Expressions of sin—envy, lust, racism, pride, arrogance, and so on—are symptoms of that condition, which, the Bible says, is both universal (Rom. 3:23) and terminal (Rom. 6:23). It is also, as the Heidelberg Catechism points out, “miserable”, the very opposite of the joyful living to which God calls us and for which our hearts long. In sin, we are absolutely and completely lost. Our condition before God is worse than bleak. We may manage, through temporary pleasures and evidence of our own success and progress, to sedate ourselves against our predicament. But in the end, apart from Christ, we remain “dead in [our] trespasses” (Eph. 2:1; Col. 2:13), as incapable of discovering true joy as a corpse is of drawing life-giving breath. We may manage, through tempoSee FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT on Page 47

But in the end, apart from Christ, we are dead in our trespasses. 2. Grace In response to sin’s misery, many are tempted simply to try harder to be what they cannot be. But the answer to sin is never self-effort; it’s always God’s grace. When we were stone-cold dead in our sins, God elected to rescue us from that horror and “made us alive together with Christ” (Eph. 2:5). To receive God’s grace is to be the beneficiary of a joyful miracle. By it, those who are dead and in need of resurrection freely find it in Jesus. That Christ died for us is a wonder—one that we can lose sight of all too easily when we treat Jesus as a mere supplement. 3. Gratitude If the only answer to guilt is grace, then the only right response to grace is gratitude. Such gratitude doesn’t display itself in a fake smile or some silly notion of being removed from life’s rigors, fears, and failures. No, gratitude is far

VICTORIOUS LIVING more substantial than that, grounded in recognition of the gravity of Christ’s work on the cross, which saves us from sin and death. Christ’s finished work is why the Bible is replete with joy. Consider just a few places where it such joy is expressed: “While He blessed them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.” (Luke 24:51–52) “The ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” (Isa. 51:11) “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.” (John 16:20) There are countless other examples, of course, and even commands to rejoice, such as (Psalm 37:4) (“Delight yourself in the LORD”) and (Philippians 4:4) (“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice”). When we remember that God has erased our guilt through His matchless grace, we will experience grati-

tude. When He grants us “strength to comprehend … what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge” (Eph. 3:18–19), we won’t be able to help but spill over with joy at the wonders of the riches that we have in Christ. Three Hindrances to Joy Still, for all the joy that God’s grace inspires, we know that robust joy doesn’t mark our every moment. Three obstacles to our joy seem to plague us especially. 1. Foolishness In (Romans 1:19–22), Paul writes that while God has revealed Himself both in conscience and in creation, people in their foolishness have turned their backs on Him. Our hearts are darkened, and we embrace all kinds of things that work to unravel what God intends. In his essay “The Weight of Glory,” C. S. Lewis memorably describes this kind of foolishness: We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far

too easily pleased. This sort of diminished existence isn’t just a pre-Christian experience. Believers, too, sometimes find themselves wandering down dead-end streets, even when they know they lead nowhere. In (Jeremiah 2:13), God says of His people, They have forsaken me, The fountain of living waters, And hewed out cisterns for themselves, Broken cisterns that can hold no water Even having come to know the fount of all true joy, we can still look to empty wells to give us what only God can give. But to do so is the epitome of foolishness. 2. Forgetfulness True, deep-seated joy is also hindered by forgetfulness. In (Psalm 103:2), the psalmist exhorts himself, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” You’d think we wouldn’t have such trouble remembering Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf, but distractions abound, and we, like the hymn writer, are “prone to wander, prone to leave the God I love.” AbunSee FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT on Page 48

dance and lack, trial and ease, anything and everything can further mislead our straying hearts. Against such spiritual and theological amnesia, the psalmist instructs us by his own example in (Psalm 77:11–12): I will remember the deeds of the Lord. Yes, I will remember your wonder of old. I will ponder all Your work, And meditate on Your mighty deeds. We have no better work or mightier deed to recall than the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. We must remember and meditate on the precious gift of Christ, lest we find ourselves misremembering or misplacing the joy of our salvation. 3. Faintheartedness Just as our joy can be depleted when we forget what we ought to remember, so it can wane when we remember what we really should forget. The Evil One is our accuser (Rev. Louisiana Alarm Watch (504) 780-8775 www.laalarmwatch.com 12:10); he wants to leave us rooting through the garbage bins of sins long SECURITY • FIRE • MEDICAL ALERT • CAMERAS • ACCESS CONTROL forgiven and rob us of our joy. If we look into ourselves rather than outward to Christ, then he will succeed, and we will lose heart. Even having come to know the fount of all true joy, we can still look to empty wells to give us what only God can give. But to do so is the epitome of foolishness. There is no question that we must pursue holiness and let our “manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ” (Phil. 1:27). But at the same time, we

must remember that Almighty God has already removed our transgressions from us “as far as the east is from the west” (Ps. 103:12). He has blotted out our sins (Isa. 43:25; Acts 3:19). There is therefore no use in dwelling on our failures, mistakes, and shortcomings. Instead, we must run to Christ in our time of need and ask Him to restore and preserve the joy that He bought for us with His own blood. Everlasting Joy Because of Christ, the just reward of every believer is no longer eternal punishment but everlasting joy. In (Isaiah 61:7), God’s Anointed One (whom we know to be Jesus; see (Luke 4:18) proclaims to His people, Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion. Instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot. Therefore, in their land they shall possess a double portion; They shall have everlasting joy. We will not always feel joyful. The Bible, always realistic about life’s struggles, even has a category for “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing” (2 Cor. 6:10). Still, there can be no question in the end that Christians have a God-given, Christbought right to know and experience joy on a regular basis. If you don’t feel joyful right now—even if joy seems like an impossibility—ask God to give you a taste of it. It is His call to us already: “Taste and see that the LORD is good!” (Ps. 34:8). There can be no doubt, then, that as you seek Him in faith, He will give you glimpses of gladness and help you take another step, however small, on the journey to everlasting joy.

SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

3 Ways To Get Spiritually Refreshed By Greg Laurie

I love the word refresh. It’s such a perfect word to describe starting again or returning to something. In fact, we even use it as a computer term. Sometimes when I’m working on my computer, leave it for a while, and then come back, things freeze up. Certain programs aren’t working properly anymore. So I have to refresh my computer screen. And there is a time when that means I need to completely reboot. Sometimes we need a reboot in the Christian life as well. Sometimes we need a refresh because we find ourselves tired and exhausted. Here’s what Jesus says: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NLT). On the day of Pentecost, Peter said to the people, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19 NKJV). The word refresh means to give new strength, to give energy to, and to reinvigorate.” Could you use some spiritual refreshment right now? The place to find that is from God Himself. 1. Refreshed in the Word of God The Bible is very specific about how we can find refreshment for our souls. For example, Psalm 19 says, “The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul” (verse 7 NKJV). We will find spiri-

tual refreshment when we read and study the Bible. Of course, it isn’t always an emotional experience when we open the Bible and read it. But this is not about emotions; this is about replenishment. This is about restoration, getting perspective on life, and getting direction from God. And as you open the Bible, the Word of God, it will refresh your soul. Have you ever been reading the Bible and suddenly a verse seemed to jump off the page? Maybe it was a verse you’ve read before, but amazingly it had new meaning and applied to your situation. That is finding refreshment from the Word of God. 2. Refreshed by Selflessness You also will be spiritually refreshed when you think of others more than yourself. I know this is counterintuitive to the selfie culture in which we’re living. People are trying to get more followers on social media and are very aware of their image. And sadly, we’ve heard stories of people who have literally died trying to get the ultimate selfie. The truth is that when you stop thinking about yourself so much and instead think about others, it will refresh you spiritually. The Bible tells us, “Those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25 NLT). As you’re giving to others, you’ll find that you’re replenished yourself. 3. Refreshed Through Prayer There is also refreshing power in prayer. Why do we put off prayer? Why do we avoid praying? Allow me to offer some observations. Maybe we don’t pray more because we think we don’t have the time. But is that true? How much time do we spend on social media every day? The latest

research says that people in the United States check their Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts 17 times per day. That’s once every waking hour. Imagine if you prayed 17 times a day instead of checking your social media. John Piper put it this way: “One of the great uses of Twitter and Facebook will be to prove at the Last Day that prayerlessness was not from lack of time.” How true is that? Then factor in all the hours we spend binge-watching shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or some other outlet. We can waste so much time. So don’t say that you don’t have time to pray. The fact is that you will be available for what matters to you. Maybe we don’t pray because we don’t think prayer is all that important. Of course, we never would admit that outright. But do we really think it’s important? I can assure you that it’s very important. Why Prayer Is Crucial The Old Testament book of Joshua tells a story about the Israelites who were led out of the bondage of Egypt into a new land flowing with milk and honey. But there was an obstacle in their path: the mighty city of Jericho, a huge fortress. There was no way they could bring it down militarily, but God had said He would give them that city. So they prayed and called on God, and He gave them a battle plan, which I have to admit was pretty unorthodox. They marched around the city, yelled, and blew trumpets. But it worked. The walls of the fortress crashed down, and they took control. After that there was another little city called Ai, which was much smaller than Jericho and not nearly as difficult to conquer. They didn’t

pray about that. They thought Ai would be easy because they had taken down Jericho. But when they went in, they were soundly defeated because they didn’t pray about it. We need to pray about everything. The Bible tells us, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6 NLT). Notice it doesn’t say that “in some things” or in “only the big, scary things” we should make our requests known to God. Rather, it’s “in everything” that we should make our requests known to Him. Maybe another reason we don’t pray more is because we don’t think that prayer really works. Again, we wouldn’t admit that, but it may be the case. Let’s understand what the objective of prayer is. It is not to align God with our wills; it’s to align us with His will. God is not a genie; He’s our Father in Heaven. If you’re studying and memorizing Scripture and understanding the message of the Bible, then your desires will change. Thus, your prayers will change as well. Do you want to be spiritually refreshed? Then study the Bible, the Word of God. Put the needs of others above your own needs. Spend time in God’s presence through prayer. Then you’ll find the refreshment you’re looking for.

CHARACTER

Lessons Learned Under An Old Tree By J R Miller

The tree is often used in the Bible in illustrating worthy and beautiful characters. A godly man, the first psalm tells us, is like a tree planted by streams of water, which brings forth its fruit in its season. In one of the minor prophets, the deep rooting and wide branching of a tree, are especially suggested as illustrating phases of character and usefulness. "He shall cast forth his roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread." The cedar of Lebanon sends its roots down deep into the earth. If it did not, it could not stand in the mighty sweep of the storms. The ROOT is not a conspicuous part of the tree. Indeed, it is not seen at all. No one praises it. It creeps down into the dark earth and is hidden out of sight. But it is of prime importance. It feeds the tree's life,

and it holds the tree in its place. No life can remain steadfast without deep rooting. Shallow rooting means a feeble power of resistance. Because it lacked root, the seed sown on rocky ground withered in the first hot sun. We cannot find any sheltered place to live in where no storms shall beat upon us. Christ himself faced the most terrific temptations and trials. No follower of His can hope for a life without antagonism. There must be strength of character to withstand temptation, as well as purity of heart to look into God's face. God's trees must be rooted in Christ. It takes both the gentleness of the lily and the strength of the cedar — to make a true Christian character. Gentleness without strength is weakness. Strength without gentleness is only brute force. But sweetness and strength combined yield mature Christian manhood. If there is deep rooting, there will also be a corresponding extension of the branches. True life broadens as it grows deeper. We all begin little — but we ought not to continue little. We should grow into

men, putting away childish things. Some people, however, seem never to advance in spiritual life. One of the strange differences of Japanese horticulture, is the cultivation of dwarf trees. The Japanese grow forest giants in flowerpots. Some of these strange miniature trees are a century old, and yet are only two or three feet high. The gardener, instead of trying to get them to grow to their best, takes infinite pains to keep them little. From the time of their planting, they are repressed, starved, crippled, stunted, their life kept back. When buds appear, they are nipped off. So, the tree remains only a dwarf through all the years. Some Christian people seem to do the same with their lives. They stunt them. They make dwarf Christians of themselves, never allowing their inner life to develop. They rob themselves of spiritual nourishment, restrain all the noble impulses of their nature, shut out of their hearts the power of the Holy Spirit — and are only baby Christians, little dwarfs — when they might be and ought to be strong in Christ,

with the abundant life which He desires to give to all His followers. There is not breadth enough in many of our lives. We ought to grow in height reaching up to the fullness of the stature of Christ. Then we ought to grow in breadth, in the outreach of our lives. Love is the great central quality of all true Christian character, and love should increase continually. The life that does not reach outside of its own little circumference has not begun to understand the meaning of its responsibility. It is said also of this tree that those who dwell under its shadow shall return. The picture is very beautiful and wondrously suggestive of the shelter and the refreshment which are found under the branches of a wide-spreading tree. Just so, there are people beneath the shadow of whose love, strength, and beneficence, others come and find rest and comfort. They live to minister to others — not to be ministered unto by others. They seek to See LESSONS on Page 52

Scrumptious Low-Carb Pecan Pie Cheesecake (ONLY 4 GRAMS NET CARBS!)

There is something magical about Pecan Pie Cheesecake. It “screams” Holiday deliciousness. But did you know that the typical pecan pie cheesecake contains about 1/4 cup sugar? Per serving! That’s right, with every slice you’re consuming over 50 grams of sugar and almost 60 grams of carbohydrates. As you know, overconsumption of sugar is deadly. But there’s good news for Easter Season! You can make this delicious Pecan Pie Cheesecake with only 4 grams of net carbs. You’ll still get all the wonderful health benefits of pecans, and none of the sugar. Like our Keto Zone Cinnamon Rolls, this recipe takes some work, specialized ingredients, and finesse. But don’t let that deter you, it’s well worth the effort! Here’s how and why to make our healthy, low-carb Pecan Pie Cheesecake for the Holidays. MOST SCRUMPTIOUS, LOWCARB PECAN PIE CHEESECAKE INGREDIENTS CRUST: • 1 cup pecans, ground • 1 cup almond flour • 1/4 cup coconut flour • 1/4 cup granulated Erythritol (i.e.. Swerve) or Allulose • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (preferably sugar-free) • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter • Cheesecake filling: • 2 1/2 cups cream cheese, soft-

ened • 1/3 cup granulated Erythritol or Swerve or Allulose • 10-15 drops liquid stevia for extra sweetness (optional) • 1/2 cup organic sour cream, at room temperature • 1/4 cup organic heavy whipping cream • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, preferably sugar-free • 1 teaspoon cinnamon • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 1 teaspoon baking powder • 3 large grass-fed/organic eggs, at room temperature, lightly beaten PECAN PIE TOPPING: • 1/3 cup low-carb brown sugar substitute such as Swerve, Sukrin Gold, or Allulose • 4 tablespoon sugar-free mapleflavored syrup • 1 teaspoon xanthan gum • 1/2 cup unsalted butter • 2 large grass-fed/organic eggs • 1/2 cup organic heavy whipping cream • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt • 2 cups coarsely chopped pecan

cessor and pulse until mixed. Add in butter and vanilla extract. Pour the crust mixture into the prepared pan. Press the crust 3/4 of the way up the sides using your fingers. Press crust onto the bottom using a flat-bottomed cup or utensil. Refrigerate the crust for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, begin making the filling. Beat the cream cheese and sweetener in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on mediumhigh speed. Beat until smooth and creamy. Next, add in the heavy cream, sour cream, vanilla, baking powder, cinnamon powder, and salt. Continue to beat until well combined. Lastly, beat in the eggs just until combined. Pour the filling through a finemesh sieve if available, or otherwise work to remove any clumps. Remove pan from refrigerator. Spread filling evenly into the bottom of the pan. Wrap a large baking sheet in foil completely, from underneath to the topside and up all sides. Fill the baking sheet with water. Place the cheesecake pan in the center of the baking sheet filled with water. Put in the oven and bake for 40 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the topping. In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sweetener, maple syrup, xanthan gum, and butter. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until it reaches a boil. Then, continue to boil for 2 minutes. Remove

from heat and let cool while the cheesecake is baking. On the side, whisk the “pie-topping” eggs, salt, and cream together. Then, set aside. Once the cheesecake has baked for 40 minutes, remove it from the oven. Reduce oven temperature to 300 °F (convection) or 340 °F (conventional). Slowly whisk the egg mixture with the cooled syrup until well combined. Add chopped pecans and stir to combine. Gently spoon the topping over the cheesecake. Return cheesecake to the oven and bake for another 40-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and crisp. If the edges begin to over-brown during baking, remove, cover with foil, and then continue baking. See CHEESECAKE on Page 52

ney, to rest. This lesson is one we should seek ever to learn for ourselves. No one should be willing to cast a shadow only for himself, to keep himself — but no other, cool in the summer heat. We should seek to make grateful shade and shelter for earth's hunted ones, weary ones, sorrowing ones. Too many people are eager to broaden their lives — but only to

gather the more into their grasp, for selfish ends and purposes; not to bless the world — but to gain the world for their own enriching. Others there are who seek to draw people to them, under their influence, whose branches do not make a safe and wholesome shelter for the weary, the troubled and the imperiled — but rather a poisoned shadow in which the innocent are harmed and the unwary ruined!

We who are Christians should be like trees of blessing, under which others may come, sure of finding only shelter, comfort and good. GRACE GEMS! using erythritol in chilled desserts, they may become a bit crystallized, giving it an uneven texture. This isn’t a huge problem, but it can be avoided with allulose. It can be used directly in place of erythritol, in the same amounts. It has the same carb count. However, it is slightly pricier. Why Eat Pecans Now And Throughout The Year? This dessert doesn’t just omit the sugar. It also brings all the nourishment of pecans! What do they do in the body? Pecans: Support bone health, especially in women. They are a good source of manganese, copper, and zinc, minerals known to promote bone density and health. Improve brain health, especially

in those who are seeking treatment after alcohol abuse. Pecan’s thiamine helps the brain recover and repair. Reduce free radical damage and brain degradation by neutralizing free radicals. Pecans’ nutrients also help improve brain dopamine and galactose pathways. Support heart health by promoting healthy blood pressure levels and improved cholesterol. Pecans provide plant sterols, antioxidants that can reduce oxidation of LDL cholesterol, and healthy fats to support heart health. To read all about the health benefits of pecans, check out this post and Pecan Tartlet Recipe. Bottom Line Just because you’re healthy and

eating low carb doesn’t mean you have to skip scrumptious desserts. Indeed, we’ve saved the most scrumptious one just for you. Enjoy our healthy Low-Carb Pecan Pie Cheesecake this Easter!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Questions & Answers By Adrian Rogers What about people who’ve never heard of Jesus? Jesus taught in (John 14:6): “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” What does this exclusive claim by Jesus mean for someone who has never heard His name? Every person can observe from creation that there is a Creator. Every person also has a conscience and knows that right and wrong exist—confirming that there is moral law given by a moral Lawgiver. In other words, every human being has an instinctive knowledge of God. Those who desire to live by their own rules, unrestrained by the moral law God has written on every heart, reject the Lawgiver and deny the existence of the Creator (at least in their speech; it is impossible to logically rule out the existence of God). As they continue in this way, their understanding grows increasingly dark. Those who welcome the Creator, though they may not yet know His name, seek God. As they receive,

believe, and obey the truth, God provides more and more light. In fact, He promises in (Jeremiah 29:13-14), “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord.” So, the real question is not, “What will happen to the person who has never heard of Jesus?” The real question is, “What will happen to the person who does not want to know God?” And the answer is simple: God will not force Himself on that person because He has given every person free will. What about you? Are you seeking God? If so, He has revealed Himself to you in the person of Jesus Christ. If you came to this page, you have heard of Jesus, and you are responsible to God to answer the question Pilate asked in (Matthew 27:22): “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” If you came to this page and you are already a believer, you must go

and tell. Jesus’ final command in (Matthew 28:19-20) is for you: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” How can my testimony be used to share Jesus with others? When we live our lives filled with the Holy Spirit, God will make sure that there will be people around us who will notice and possibly start asking questions about our peace, patience, kindness, and other observable changes in our lives. As we remember that God’s assignment for us is to be witnesses, not lawyers, our testimonies become a natural way to tell others what we have personally “seen and heard.” Write your testimony in a way that is natural for you. Review it often. That will make it much easier to share when the doors of opportu-

nity are open. Look for openings in relationships to naturally share what God has done for you. Be courageous and trust the Holy Spirit to do His work. We don’t save anyone, God does. We just tell what He has done for us. Witnessing is simply about sharing your personal encounter with the living Christ (your testimony) with others. © 2022 Love Worth Finding Ministries. Book Review The God Who Speaks Book Review by Peter Basirico

The documentary Movie ‘The God Who Speaks’ is a production of the American Family Association and is a real gem! Everyone with a genuine, biblically based faith should view this excellent production. Many ‘heroes of the faith’, pastors, scholars, apologists, Christian professors are interviewed. Men like Alistair Begg, Doctor R. C. Sproul, Norman Geisler, Doctor D. A. Carson, Apologist Frank Turek, and more, contribute. Their expertise on biblical truths is displayed so effectively by those who created this work. Their collective

purpose is to proclaim the historical, theological, and ethical magnificence of the Scriptures. We will propose to put forth the why and how of this surpassing truth. Quoting one of the many contributors, ‘When the Scriptures speak, God speaks. ‘Mankind is set apart from all other creatures by His ability to use language. The bible is not just black and white print on paper. Christians believe that God spoke the entirety of the Scriptures and superintended men to write His words down. As a personal God, a speaking God, He wanted communication with the humans He had created in His image. The Bible tells us what the True God is like. Without this word from God, man could not reveal the deep truths this God wants us to know, especially how to enter into a personal relationship with the living God. To be as clear and concise as possible, the bible’s main purpose for existing is to reveal Jesus the Savior to mankind. Another name for Jesus is The WORD, or in Greek, the Logos, or the “Logic’ of God. The entire Scriptures, Old and New Testaments alike, reveal the person and work of Jesus. To a confused pair of disciples returning from Jerusalem and all the events that had recently taken (Luke Chapter 24), ‘and beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself: In other words, Jesus is the fulfillment of

God’s total revelation! Because Jesus is the Word, the Logos, the logic of God, He is the final word of God’s intelligibility. God wants to be understood. Part of the work of the Protestant Reformation was to make the scriptures clear, therefore believers were encouraged to read the Bible in their own language. One of the main themes of “The God who speaks’ is apologetics, defending the Christian faith, which True believers must eventually encounter. The Authors of the bible were in most cases eye-witnesses to the events which they wrote down, again superintended by the Spirit of God. The authors, mostly handpicked Apostles of Jesus, record what one of the speakers calls ‘impact events. Psychologically these are events which are deeply embedded in our psyche. Examples include where a person was when the planes hit the Twin Towers. These are unforgettable moments. Bible writers were led to record the events lest they be forgotten! It must be remembered that Legend tells us that all the Apostles were martyred. The greatest ‘Impact event’ in the lives of these apostles would have been the resurrection of their Lord Jesus. They all concur, the Gospel writers, that Jesus died, was buried, and rose from the dead and were willing to die for that Truth. Because the Authors of the Bible were led to produce documents certifying historical events, we have the most historically attested text in human history. If someone attempts to deny the historical reliability of the Scripture, they will have to discard all Greco-Roman history first, Medieval history as well. As one of the Scholars alleges in the documentary, if you are going to be skeptical about the New Testament, you will need to be one thousand

times more skeptical about GrecoRoman history. We will close our review of ‘The God Who Speaks’ with the desire that any who have dismissed the Bible, as ‘just another book out of the dusty past’ will be encouraged to view this book in a whole New Light. Some may argue, well the Bible is valuable as Literature, which it is, and may contain some valuable theology and perhaps some of it may contain Words from God, but… The great Apostle Paul, the Author of portion of a large portion of the New Testament tells us in (2nd Timothy 3:16) that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” This translates ‘All Scripture is God=breathed. God’s authority is inherent in all the text. When Jesus was temped in the desert by satan, He, the Son of God, answered, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ‘The God Who Speaks’ is a must viewing for anyone who loves their Bible and it’s Author and wants to share that Love with those in his/ hers sphere of influence.

Bureau of Governmental Research Supports District Attorney Tax for St. Tammany

Message From District Attorney Warren Montgomery Upon taking office, I promised that I would provide the community with high-quality legal representation. I have done that. I came into office and made many policy changes, which have proven successful. I have been committed to providing swift justice and support for victims. I have been a leader in our State in providing treatment and 2nd chances for qualified defendants and in holding criminals accountable. Moreover, these effective policy changes created efficiencies, which have translated into saving and returning to the Parish, over 3 million dollars. By law, the Parish must fund your District Attorney’s office. Washington Parish recognized this in 2013 and passed a .33% cent sales tax to fund the expenses of the District Attorney’s Office in Washington Parish. Unfortunately, most people are unaware that my 2022 budget was cut by over half by the Parish. The direct result of these budget cuts will be fewer timely criminal prosecutions and more criminals on the streets of St. Tammany Parish. In order to stop the defunding of my office because of the Parish’s financial crisis, I must ask for a tax on April 30th. The tax is less than 1/7 of a cent to be dedicated exclusively to continuing criminal prosecutions to reverse this defunding for 2022 and for the future. These monies will be paid directly to the District Attorney’s Office and utilized solely for criminal prosecution and service. I appreciate your continued confidence and support. Help me keep St. Tammany safe! Visit DAMontgomery.org/DA-Tax for more detailed information.

The Parish cannot legally use the dedicated taxes you have previously passed to pay its obligation for the office’s criminal prosecutions. This significant defunding is not acceptable and will undermine the quality of life we expect in St. Tammany Parish. The Parish Council’s answer to its financial crisis is to defund the DA's office which means defunding law enforcement. In order to ensure continued services and the prosecutions of criminals in St. Tammany Parish, I am asking for a dedicated sales tax of less than 1/7 of a cent (14/100 of a cent). For the Average Family's yearly purchases, this tax of 14/100 of a penny will cost: $5.00 a year or less for the family with annual income from $25-50,000. $10.00 a year or less for the family with annual income from $50-297,000. These monies will be paid directly to the District Attorney’s Office and utilized solely (100%) for criminal prosecution and services.

90 YEARS

The Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) released a report on April 30, 2222, On the Ballot: District Attorney Sales Tax, St. Tammany Parish, April 30, 2022. This 14 page report can be accessed on DAMontgomery.org/BGR. The report is intended to help St. Tammany voters make an informed decision on whether to approve a new, parish-wide 0.14% (less than 1/7 of a cent) sales tax proposed by the District Attorney to fund criminal prosecutions in the parish. It also provides BGR’s position in support of the tax.

BGR is a private, nonprofit, independent research organization. Since its founding in 1932, it has been dedicated to informed public policy-making and the effective use of public resources in the Greater New Orleans area. For more information, call (504) 525-4152 or visit BGR’s website, www.bgr.org.

BGR Is For The Tax

Based on this analysis, BGR takes the following position on the tax proposition: FOR. The proposed sales tax would provide the District Attorney with a stable, recurring revenue source to fund criminal prosecutions in St. Tammany Parish. It would enable the District Attorney to retain and hire staff to handle the office’s full caseload of criminal work and support the judicial process and public safety. The 10-year term of the tax balances the office’s need for revenue stability with voter accountability. To his credit, the District Attorney has committed to several practices to improve public oversight, such as posting quarterly financial statements of tax revenue and expenditures, submitting an annual budget to the Parish Administration and Council for review during a public meeting, and conducting an annual review to determine whether a reduction in the tax rate is warranted to avoid excessive surpluses.

Excerpts BGR’s report finds that the District Attorney plans to use nearly all tax revenue, estimated to total $7.9 million annually, to retain and hire staff to handle the office’s full caseload of criminal work in St. Tammany Parish, which includes prosecuting all felony and misdemeanor cases, traffic citations and juvenile matters before the 22nd Judicial District Court. In 2022, the Parish appropriated less than half of the District Attorney’s funding request. The proposed tax would prevent a fiscal crisis for the District Attorney. If voters reject the proposition, the District Attorney’s Office will remain underfunded, which could have adverse impacts on criminal judicial processes and public safety. The report highlights several commitments made by the District Attorney to increase public transparency and accountability. The District Attorney has also committed to an annual review of the tax rate to ensure the tax does not generate excessive surpluses. EASTER 2022 55
