WHAT IS A CHANTICLEER? The Chanticleer (SHON-ti-cleer) gives Coastal Carolina University one of the most unique nicknames in all of sports. Chanticleer comes from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and was adopted by Coastal Carolina University when the University was a member of the University of South Carolina system. A Chanticleer is a rooster who rules the barnyard with cunning and wit. His competitiveness never wanes as he battles to the end, using his brains to come out on top every time. SEASON OUTLOOK Thrive in Five The Chanticleer women’s lacrosse team is excited for the start of the 2017 campaign, their fifth season overall. Head coach Kristen Selvage enters her second season; joining her this year is defensive coordinator Katie Frederick who is a first year assistant along with Adrianna Piontek to help build on the success from the 2016 season. There are 17 returners who have started at least one game for Coastal Carolina, including the return of Keri White, Haley Kyger, and Alicia Geiter from injuries last year. Mix in the 19 newcomers to the program and there is a plethora of talent that can help bear a wide variety of opponents and strategies. The captains for this promising Chanticleer squad will be White, Kyger, and junior Gabby Vujanic. Offensively, Maggie Carr has been a consistent player and there is not a reasonfor her senior season to remain the same. White, a fifth year senior, should step up and be the leader she was prior to her injury last season. Look for sophomore Madeline Bromley and junior Courtney Genovese to have break-out seasons and help propel a solid offensive attack. Sophomore Haley Alexander, who is near the top of all freshman records, concluded her freshman season being named to the Big South Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament Team. Kyger, a junior returning from injury, is back at midfield. Her speed, power, stick skills, leadership and competitive nature will help power the midfield position. Newcomer Ali Davis, an US All-American her senior year, has been a bright spot for the Chanticleers this off-season. Sophie Crowther, a huge role player at the midfield, could make a potent impact on the offensive side while mastering her defensive timing. On the defensive side, expect big things from a versatile defense and a deep unit. Anchoring the defensive systems with communication and solid play; taking the whole unit to a new level this season are Vujanic and senior Caroline Williams. Karley Barreno, a senior, gets after double teams, interceptions and ground balls, and is eager to start her final season. Senior Lauren Thomas has been a consistent on the team totaling 44 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers and 24 draw controls for her career. Two potential bright spots are freshmen Emily D’Orsaneo and Megan Kilpatrick. D’Orsaneo has shown much progression in fall practice. Kilpatrick, new to the defensive unit and who will be versatile at the midfield will also contribute to the defensive game plan. Senior goalkeeper Jenna Stover, who has been solid in her career between the pipes for Coastal Carolina, will prove to be relentless from save to save. Stover will be looking to add to records currently owned; wins (26), minutes (2465:25), saves (305), and shots faced (976). Harley Barrett, a sophomore, and newcomer Regan McComb continue to challenge Stover for the position, keeping her on her toes each and every day. Coastal Carolina will travel coast to coast and top to bottom to take on its 17 opponents this season. This season should be filled with highly competitive and challenging games, a new conference and the Chants are confident that this season will help the program to continue its growth towards a new level of success and promise.

Head Coach | Lock Haven, 1998
Kristen Selvage was introduced as the second head coach of the Coastal Carolina lacrosse program on Aug. 18, 2015. Selvage spent the previous 15 years as the head coach at Lock Haven where she led the program to three NCAA Division II championship appearances since 2009. The 2016 season Selvage lead the Chanticleers to an 11-7 record, tying the record for most wins in a season. Having argueably one of the best years defensively. In 2016, Selvage’s inaugural season at Coastal, she led the Chants to an 11-7 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in Big South play to earn the No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs. In the tournament opener, Selvage rallied her troops back from an 8-4 halftime deficit to notch a 9-8 victory over Liberty in double overtime. Selvage was the 2015 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) Division II Coach of the Year after leading the Bald Eagles to the Division II title game -- falling in overtime -- while going 20-1 overall and 12-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Lock Haven additionally played for the 2009 and 2014 NCAA Division II championships, while reaching the NCAA Division II semifinals in 2005, 2007 and 2010. Overall, Selvage led LHU to a total of eight NCAA postseason berths, including three straight and six over the past seven years. During her time at Lock Haven, Selvage built the Bald Eagles into a NCAA Division II power. Lock Haven produced 21 All-Americans that earned a total of 39 All-American honors, had seven National Player of the Year honors, finished among the top six in IWLCA NCAA Division II polls in nine of the last 10 seasons and lost just 32 games over the span. The Eagles lost just six conference games over the last seven years and won five PSAC championships. Overall, Selvage posted a 200-62 record with the Eagles and was 126-25 in 12 years in the PSAC. Along with her 2015 National Coach of the Year honors, Selvage was named the 2015 South Region Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. She led Lock Haven to a No. 2 national ranking in both 2014 and 2015. Under Selvage’s guidance in 2015, Jessica Pandolf was named the IWLCA Division II Midfielder of the Year for the third consecutive season and teammate Chrissy Baffuto was tabbed the DII Goalkeeper of the Year. The duo additionally picked up first team All-American honors while teammates Jenna Dingler (first team), Kelly Hamilton (second team)

and Shannon Bissnette (second team) were named to the All-American team as well. Pandolf led all Division II players with 82 goals on the season while her 98 points on the season were the third-most in DII. Baffuto recorded 133 saves in nearly 1,300 minutes of action and her 4.98 goals against average was second-best in DII while her .518 save percentage ranked fourth. In 2014, Lock Haven, thanks to a 17-game win streak, made its second appearance in an NCAA Division II title game as the squad posted a 19-3 record overall and 11-1 mark in the PSAC. Pandolf won her second National Midfielder of the Year award and was joined on the All-America first team by Chelsea Borrino while Lindsay Walbrant and Kelly Hamilton earned third team honors. While LHU posted an 11-0 mark during the 2013 PSAC regular season, the Bald Eagles lost in the league’s tournament final. However, the squad earned a berth to the NCAA postseason and Pandolf won the first of her three IWLCA Division II Midfielder of the Year honors. Pandolf was additionally tabbed first team All-American and Borrino earned third team All-American honors. Selvage directed LHU to the 2011 PSAC title, a berth in the NCAA postseason and a No. 4 final national rank. Four-time All-American Katie Zichello was selected as the IWLCA Division II National Defender of the Year as she led the nation in caused turnovers (67) and ground balls (87). The 2010 squad posted a 16-1 record, were PSAC champions and reached the NCAA semifinal while ending the season fourth in the national poll. For her effort, Selvage was selected as the PSAC West Division Coach of the Year and five Eagles were named All-American. Selvage led Lock Haven to the 2009 NCAA Division II title game -- the program’s first appearance in the final since winning the 1979 championship. She was selected PSAC West Division Coach of the Year, going 18-4 overall and 7-1 in the league. The team featured four All-Americans and finished third in the final national poll. In 2008, Lock Haven was 15-4 overall and 12-2 in the PSAC but missed out on the postseason. However, the Bald Eagles finished sixth in the final national poll and had three players earn All-American honors. The 2007 squad reached the NCAA Division II semifinal, featured four All-Americans and was fifth in the final poll. In 2006, Lock Haven only lost two matches (17-2) and went 11-1 in the league to finish sixth in the final poll while three Eagles were named All-American.
Lock Haven had a breakout year in 2005 as Selvage put the Bald Eagles in the conversation as one of the nation’s elite programs. The team posted a 14-5 record, had three All-Americans and finished the season as an NCAA Division II semifinalist. In 2004, Selvage was named PSAC Coach of the Year, posting an 8-9 record, and led LHU to its first PSAC tournament appearance since 1991. Despite a 7-9 record in her first year with Lock Haven (2002), Selvage was still tabbed the PSAC Coach of the Year as the Bald Eagles had won just a total of two games in the previous three seasons (one in 2001, zero in 2000 and one in 1999). Megan Dwyer was named second team All-American in both 2002 and 2003. Selvage has served on the IWLCA Board of Directors on two separate occasions and was the president of the association. Following her graduation from Lock Haven in 1998 (B.A. in psychology), Selvage served stints as head field hockey coach at SUNY New Paltz and Elmira College. While at Elmira, she also took on head lacrosse duties, and prepared both squads for the move from club to varsity level. In 2000, Selvage moved on to SUNY Geneseo, where she led the Lady Knights field hockey squad to a runner-up finish in the SUNYAC and a berth to the NYSWCAA playoffs. She guided three players to all-conference honors and two to All-NYSWCAA accolades. Under Selvage, the 2001 Lady Knight lacrosse team also advanced to the SUNYAC Championship playoffs with three athletes earning all-state status and two meriting All-SUNYAC honors. Selvage was a member of Lock Haven’s lacrosse team and garnered second team All-American honors as an attacker in 1998. She was also a standout goalkeeper for the Lock Haven field hockey team from 1994-97 and played on Lock Haven’s 1994 and 1995 NCAA Division II National Championship squads. LHU also won three PSAC field hockey tournament championships during her playing days. Selvage earned All-American and All-PSAC honors in her junior and senior seasons. In 46 games, she posted 255 saves and 20 shutouts. Selvage has etched her place in the LHU record book as her career goals-against-average of 0.90 ranks seventh, her 23 career shutouts ties her for fourth and her 255 career saves is listed at eighth.

BROOKS STADIUM
The Coastal Carolina University football stadium officially opened as Brooks Stadium on Sept. 6, 2003, for the inaugural home game of the Chanticleer football program. Scoring a touchdown with just seconds left on the clock, the Chanticleers beat Newberry College 21-14. With a gift from the late businessman Bob Brooks, the stadium was named in honor of Brooks’ children Coby Garrett and Boni Belle. The $2 million gift is among the largest ever made to the university. Brooks, who grew up on a farm in Loris, S.C., was the CEO and founder of Eastern Foods, Inc., creator of the Naturally Fresh line of products, and chairman of Hooters of America, Inc. He also created Hooter Air Charter Airline, the National Golf Association Hooters Tour and the Hooters ProCup Series, aseries of short-track races in small towns throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Brooks passed away in 2006. Phase I of the stadium construction included 6,408 seats while Phase II added almost 1,000 additional seats prior to the 2006 season. The third phase of Brooks Stadium was completed in 2010 when approximately 1,600 seats were added directly behind the north end zone. Affectionately referred to as the Chantourage section, the seats directly in front of Adkins Field House was designated as the student section in 2011. Brooks Stadium accommodates approximately 9,400 fans and was designed to grow with the football program, with a future capacity for up to 20,000 fans. Brooks Stadium has been ranked among the top stadiums in the nation in attendance based on capacity. In 2010, the Chanticleers hosted a first round NCAA Division I Football Championship playoff game against Western Illinois; this game marked the first postseason game played in Brooks Stadium. On Feb. 15, 2013, the women’s lacrosse team opened its inaugural season in its new home field, Brooks Stadium. Women’s lacrosse is the 18th Division I sports program for the Chanticleers. The inaugural season for the women’s lacrosse program featured nine home contests. The first win for the Chanticleer lacrosse team in Brooks Stadium came on March 22, 2013, when Coastal Carolina’s Keri White scored the go-ahead goal in the final minute of play to give the Chants a 14-13 victory over the Detroit Titans. • 2017 CHANTICLEER WOMEN’S LACROSSE • 44

About The ASUN Conference The new identity of the ASUN Conference reflects our position as a premier NCAA Division I conference. Contemporary, but designed to stand the test of time, this identity embraces the future. The rising sun within the “A” represents hope and optimism for tomorrow. It also represents the brilliance of our student-athletes, who are at the heart of all we do. As sure as the sun will rise, the ASUN will be leading the way.
WE CAN IMPACT
Our success resides in the impact we make in competition, in the classroom and in the community. Making a difference counts. 99 percent of ASUN teams cleared the NCAA’s academic benchmark in the annual Academic Progress Report. ASUN Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams combined for 12 postseason wins, a new league record in 2015-16. FGCU’s men’s team posted the league’s fourth NCAA victory since 2013. On the women’s side, FGCU, USC Upstate and Stetson combined for eight postseason wins in 2015-16, including a run to the WNIT Championship Final by the Eagles. In the past two seasons, FGCU earned NCAA Postseason victories in both men’s and women’s soccer. This season, the men’s team advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Championships with a 3-0 penalty kick decision against South Florida. The women’s team earned the ASUN’s first NCAA Postseason victory since 2004. The Eagles defeated No. 22 South Florida 2-1 in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. This past winter, the ASUN’s eight SAAC groups distributed a total of 2,500 blankets to organizations benefiting families, veterans, children and animals who needed a special touch during the holiday season. SAAC groups matched the number of blankets with 2,500 cans of food.
WE CAN CONNECT
We are united as a community of students, athletes, coaches, faculty, administrators, staff and fans. For the second season in a row, all Men’s and Women’s Basketball conference games were streamed live on the WatchESPN platform. Championships for seven other sports were produced and broadcast across ASUN campuses as well, including the first Beach Volleyball Championship broadcast. North Florida’s Men’s Golf head coach Scott Schroeder was named to the NCAA Men’s Golf Committee, serving until August 2020. Stetson’s Senior Associate Director and SWA Alicia Queally was named to the prestigious NCAA Pathway Program in January 2016. ASUN Men’s Basketball teams played in front of 214,851 fans during the 2016-17 season. For the fourth straight season, the ASUN Men’s Basketball Championship Final was played in front of a sell out crowd. The ASUN continued to lead the industry with creative and innovative social media campaigns in 2015-16, increasing impressions by 40% across multiple platforms. A new ASUN Snapchat account was launched, and frequent student-athlete ‘takeovers’ added another layer to the league’s consistently comprehensive social media coverage.
WE PUT STUDENTS FIRST
In everything we do the student-athlete comes first. We lead by example in embracing a student-first culture. ASUN student-athletes became the first to unveil the conference’s new brand identity via Social Media. Student-Athletes from all league members were significantly involved in the design and reveal process. For a fifth consecutive year, at least nine ASUN teams earned perfect APR scores, pushing the conferences’ total to 133 teams honored since the award was established in 2004-05 More than 70 percent of ASUN Student-Athletes earned membership on the ASUN Honor Roll by posting a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, a second-straight record setting number. The ASUN Conference has created a new Career in Sports Program specifically designed to provide interested ASUN student-athletes with an educational and experiential opportunity in the field of intercollegiate athletics.
WE CAN RISE
We have a history of firsts and remain committed to elevating our student-athletes and bettering our future. The 2016 ASUN Men’s Basketball Championship final saw a record growth of 139 percent in viewership across the WatchESPN platform. FGCU defeated Stetson 80-78 in overtime. Whitney Knight of FGCU became the first player in ASUN history selected in the first round of the WNBA draft when the Los Angeles Sparks chose her with the 15th overall pick. For the first time in ASUN Men’s Soccer history, two players were taken in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft. FGCU’s Rodrigo Saravia went to Columbus Crew SC, while North Florida’s Alex Morrell was drafted by the Chicago Fire. Lipscomb Men’s Golf earned its first trip to the NCAA Men’s Golf Regional in 2016. The Bisons were selected as an at-large team to the Tuscaloosa Regional, after being ranked near the bottom of NCAA Division I Men’s Golf only four years ago. The ASUN Conference is a NCAA Division I league with eight member institutions committed to Building Winners for Life. The ASUN meets the challenge of maintaining the highest standards in academic and athletic achievement with a true balance between student and athlete. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the ASUN footprint reaches into seven of the top 50 media markets in the nation. The ASUN includes a blend of the most prestigious and dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University. The University of North Alabama will join the league for the 2018-19 season bringing the membership total to nine.
