Space as Measurement A f t e r t h e r e s e a r c h o f t h e Pa o installation and the following work, a question was raised "How can we measure our minimum livable space?" A series of solution were proposed. And in the end, what can the way of measurement bring us? Can it represent the phenomenom o f l o c a l Ta i w a n e s e r e s i d e n t i a l extension? Can it become a metaphor for the struggling of living in a super-dense metropolitan city? In the end, a structure was proposed, a structure to measure, a structure as a metaphor; also acts as a space, an installation.

Th ro u g h a series of demolitions and the concomitants, the previous symbol of repression will not only become a place of commemorate; moreover, a symbol of Catalan people's collective will, intection, and manifesto for their long awaited dawn- the independence. The Presรณ Model de Barcelona is destinated to be closed in the year of 2017. However, except of being known as the oldest prison in Catalunya, the prison has also been a symbol of political repression of Catalan people.

None of us, possess a kind of "fíat" by which we can say, ‘Let bygones be bygones’ and, hey presto, they then become bygones. Our common experience in fact is the opposite—that the past, far from disappearing or lying down and being quiet, has an embarrassing and persistent way of returning and haunting us unless it has in fact been dealt with adequately. Unless we look the beast in the eye we find it has an uncanny habit of returning to hold us hostage. [10]” - D es m on d Tutu, Wi n n er in 1 984

CULTURE MURDER
文 化 扼 殺 Our city changes fast, way faster than we think. However, there is always victims for it. Culture can be killed by gentrification, urbanization, and globalization. And our city is facing the lost of local culture. The next project, which is also my thesis design, based on a fact that sub culture is dying, and needed to be rescued.

For insiders/Independent shops For Insiders, the map of Xi-men is like a collage of several secret places they are familiar with. Ulike the map for outsiders, the shopping map only exsits in the mind. Shpping route is complicated, but could be simplified by shourtcuts, like island hopping. Blank Void Blank void is like the square for insiders. It can gather people and held activities, especially illegal ones. 0:00

SHOPPING EXPERIENCE / A RITUAL FROM OUTSIDER TO INSIDER Shopping experience in independent shops is like a ritual- from outsider to insider. Being cheated at first, then getting familiar with the shops, and finally become an insider in Xi-Men.Different from mass culture, independent shoppers are being "selected". Shopkeepers select insiders who can get the best collection, as well as cheating outsider who just accidentally jump in the shop.

Outsiders
Business culture in Ximen is like social class. Familiar customers get the best service, while outsider is easy to be cheated. Shopkeepers select who to sell their best collection.
37
SITE STREET OF AMERICAN This street is the spirit of sub culture in Xi-Men, also the shopping experience can be observed here: 1.Shopkeepers squat front door area to look for potential customers, and select, examine them. 2.Shopkeepers often gather in blank void space during their break. Exchanging goods privately, sharing the latest business news. This is the trading place for sub-culture collectors.

Temporary structure
The original building on the site is a 11 floor business building, used to be a famous theater. However, it's facing urban renewal and is scheduled to be torn down by 2020. This project proposes a reconstruction plan for sub culture/ Independent stores to flourish by re-creating the shopping experience. 38

Step 4:
Step 5:
Utilizing the original structure system as main structure for main space
Separates sub space and main space volume, and creates interface between them.
Creats sub space volumes by adding sub structure onto the main structure. The route in sub space are complicated, easy to get lost. Same as the context of Xi-men, there are blank spaces for shopkeepers to gather
Creats main spaces. Including plaza, and different types of program to attract people. There are still some secret spaces in the main space area.

MODELING
39
MODELING APPROACH This project challenged the role of modeling, claimed that physical models are not only for presenting the final design ,but much more a study progress. Sketching on the model snapshots to add design ideas, and study between physical models and drawing, blurring the boundry of these two media. Secondly, the progress of creating these models are like collecting my own past momories in the original Xi-Men context, reconstruct several separate experience as a collage of my own impression of Xi-Men.

PROGRAMMING In order to reflect the issue of the invation of mass culture and chain store, several "dying industry" are hosted in this project. On the other hand, thesis project is also a reflection of one's own architecture thought, a n d a co nta i n e r o f o n e ' s o w n m e m o r i e s a n d experience. For me, it indicates those took place in independant shops , which can not be re-find but should be momorized.

INTRODUCTION This project is a research about the relationship between nature environment and industry in Luzou industry distrct. Paradoxically, Luzou produced the largest a m o u n t o f c ro p d u r i n g t h e 2 0 c e n t u r y ; however, has transformed to an industry area due to lost of land productivity. Nowadays, factories are moving away due to the rising land price. In addition, several policies have shown that government are decided to make the district a better living area. Base on the history and the fact that factories are moving away, this project assumes a reverse progress- the "revival of green", aimed to bring back productivity and green belt.
02
DIALOGUE BETWEEN NATURE AND INDUSTRY Academic / Individual / Part 1 : Urban analysis Part 2 : Graphic comic
NOTE Architecture is not only about design, but pretty much a way of communication. This project includes a graphic comic about a "Green Fantasy", to show the original idea to bring back the green belt.

INDUSTRY TRANSITION
ZONING OF LUZUO
Luzou produced the largest amount of crop during the 20 century. However, due to the convenience brought by several different transportation, Luzou has grown to one of the most important satellite industrial city of Taipei. During the past few decade, because of the rising land price and government policies, it's facing industry transition, and the factories are moving away for better living quality.
Area A. Power Plant is situated by Hsu-Huei high schoo. Government decided to tear down the power plant in 5 years. The land will be used as residential purpose.

Area B. Pure industry area for machine and steel plants. Due to the rising land price, some factories are abanboned. A river side walk is schedule to be built to enhance the living quality.
Area C. Separated by the power plant, lack of connection. Most of the factory are small subcontracing factories. Some families use their living room as factories.

Do you know why there is so much smoke? I can't see my scenary
How about go take a look?
Here we are ! It's seems like a factory or something? It so dark here, can you turn the light on ?

Thanks for the ride. Do you want to hear a secret? I had a strange dream last night. It was a story about an old man
However, some small black sapling broke from the ground one day. And the original tree begin to die.
He lives in a forest near a small town. The old man wants his forest back. He collect the last few seeds of the original trees, and plant them carefully. Few years ago, the situation changed. Green tree were back, and the black tree disappeared. . .

INTRODUCTION This project began with a simple question: “Do we still need physical books in the digital era?” In the digital age, people rely on the Internet rather than physical document due to convenience. This phenomenon make the archive less important in a campus. This project aimed to transfer the original archive to a place to spread knowledge, rather than just storage knowledge.

MAMBO DANCE UNDER BRIDGE
寶 島 曼 波 How people utilize space can show their characteristic. Under bridge space can avoid the hot wheather, and provide a leisure space in the crowded city. In the following project, I would like to discuss the relationship between activity and form, hoping to reflect the identity of Taiwanese people.

CENTER FOR STORAGE OR SPREADING KNOWLEDGE? In the digital age, the importance of “ P hys i ca l B o o k “ h a s c h a n ge d . A l t h o u g h there is still huge collection value, but could museum/ archive serves as a positive role to spread knowledge, instead of only storage knowledge?

B. Metal fabric facade is utilized to prevent d i re c t s u n ex p o s u re in the public reading area. The air space between glass and mrtal fabric also allowed make the temperature lower.
