I would like to thank everyone who attended the Town Hall Meeting on October 29th. For those that were unable to attend, we have posted the information on the Club’s website in the Members Only area. If you need your login information please contact Pat in the Accounting Office. The Town Hall Meeting was very informative as we discussed the capital projects currently underway including the HVAC system, pool renovation and tennis court resurfacing. Following the Treasurer’s Report, our new General Manager Mike Blazer discussed the long range vision for the Club as we move “from good to great”. He also discussed the need to continue to grow the Club’s membership and ways that you can help. His message was very simple, “Invite your friends”. Please take a moment to read the information from the Town Hall Meeting. I’m sure you will find it helpful and very informative. Included is information on how you can get involved with the Club’s many committees. November will be a very busy month at Chapel Hill Country Club. Our social calendar is filled with great events and I look forward to seeing you there. On Monday, November 9th, the Club will host the annual Police and Firefighter Appreciation Golf Tournament. This event honors our local heroes and gives members the opportunity to thank them personally and share a great day on the course. The WGA and SMGA have several events, a group of members will travel to DPAC on November 13th, and Thanksgiving is approaching quickly. Finally, I want to congratulate Executive Chef Jimmy Reale for winning 3 awards at the 2015 A Tasteful Affair including Best Entrée, Best Plate Presentation and People’s Choice Award. Chapel Hill learned what we already know, Chef Jimmy can cook! As a reminder, the Membership Holiday Party is on December 6th followed by the Annual Meeting on December 7th. The best way to advance the Club is by expanding membership, and the best way to expand membership is to invite your best friends. The Club exists to bring together friends for social and recreational events. Already having friends that are members makes becoming a member more enjoyable. Chef Wins 3 For CHCC While it seems that Chef Reale lives at the Club, he still finds time to get out and compete on occassion. Recently, Chef Reale took part in the A Tasteful Affair event supporting the Ronald McDonald House at UNC Kenan Stadium’s Blue Zone. Chef Reale’s creations won Best Entree, Best Plate Presentation and People’s Choice Awards. Club members are treated to his winning style every day. Chef changes the menu numerous times throughout the year to match the flavor of the seasons and to incorporate the best local produce. He is an artist and the wheels of creativity are perpetually spinning as he works to create new enticing dishes to please members. His kitchen is the heartbeat of the club with staff that work together like a finely tuned engine. Santa Claus Is Coming Everyone’s favorite jolly bearded man will be making his appearance on Wednesday, December 9, Thursday, December 10 and Sunday, December 13. Seatings for the Wednesday and Thursday dinners are at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, with the Sunday brunch seatings at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Tables always go quickly, so make your reservation early! Space is limited in each seating, so please be sure that your numbers are finalized when making reservations. Santa visits are a cherished club tradition. Children have the opportunity to tell Santa what they want and have their picture taken with Santa. Santa reads A Night Before Christmas. Seeing everyone together and all the little members dressed up to see Santa is magical!

With his substantial wealth, he expressed his kind, generous nature with various philanthropic endeavors. Junior Golf Champions CHCC members Hannah Rose Bruxvoort and Hailey Freedman are members of the Cardinal Gibbons High School Girls’ Golf Team who won the 4A State Championship by 28 strokes on October 30th! Hailey posted the low round of the first day with a 75 and Hannah Rose received the 4A Outstanding Sportsmanship award. This was Cardinal Gibbons’ second consecutive state championship!

Sally’s Golf Tip: Putting The most important thing to remember when putting, in my opinion, is to keep your head still or listen for the ball to drop before you peak. Using your shoulders allows the club to swing under your steady head. Hold your finish, looking up only after the ball is holed or stops rolling. By keeping your head still the putter has a keep chance to swing freely on line and gives chan you the best chance for a solid hit. Also, focusing on keeping your head still helps focu prevent you from worrying about the prev results. You may not make them all, but I resu know you can keep your head still and thus have a better chance to make it. LPGA Teaching Professional Sally Austin offer off ers errs lessons and a clinics at the club for all ages. SMGA Update

Dear WGA Members:

October 28th marked the official end to the 2015 SMGA golf season, but as Yogi said: ‘’It ain’t over ‘til it’s over”! In the beginning of September, Mark Attwood captured the President’s Cup when he defeated Rick Lessard in our double elimination match play tournament. Then less than two weeks later, Ed Kaiser was crowned Senior Champion in medal play. Ed’s two day total of 160 captured the gross title, while Ron Tell and Jerry Gschwind shared low net honors. With their wins Mark and Ed gained automatic exemption into November’s season ending finale. On November 8th, the SMGA will hold its inaugural FedEx-like tournament. During the year, participation and performance points were awarded to players for every golf event in which they participated. The winners of our three major championships, plus the eight players that accumulated the most points through the Closing Day event qualified. This low gross event will help us put a new finish to an exciting 2015 golf season. One week later, Sunday the 15th, all SMGA members and their significant other are invited to the Fall Awards Banquet. The New Horizons Swing Band will be providing music during the evening for both the listening and dancing pleasure of the participants. Golf winners will also be honored as we dine on Chef Jimmy’s fine food and recall the adventures that we experienced during the past year.

I want to use this last newsletter to express my thanks for your participation and support over this past golf season. With the passing of my mother it has been a difficult year for me, but you all have helped me through it. As the WGA merges with the NNGA to become the LGA, I hope you all will continue to support women’s’ golf at CHCC. Thank you to my wonderful board who kept me on task, under budget and picked up my slack. Thank you to all the play day chairs for organizing our outings. I am truly blessed to be a member of this incredible club and organization. Golf is a bonus to the friendships I have developed. Firefighter and Police Appreciation Golf Tournament On Monday, November 9th, The Chapel Hill Country Club will honor the local heroes that make Chapel Hill a safe and highly desirable place to live. All members are invited to help make this event memorable for those who serve our community by either donating a prize, playing in the tournament or volunteering to help with tournament operations. The Tournament Entry Fee of $40 includes Chili on #1 at 11 AM, Shotgun start golf with cart at 11:30 AM, and burgers and hot dogs with a keg after golf.

Christmas Cup Toy Drive & Golf Tournament The 2015 Christmas Cup will be held on Friday, December 11th. Please bring 2 toys- one for boy and one for a girl, unwrapped and valuing about $25 each. It may be a bit chilly on the course, but your heart will be filled with the warmth of the season of giving! The event kicks off with Chili on #1 at 11 AM followed by a shotgun start at 12 PM. You could be the lucky winner to drink from the Christmas Cup this year! Your donation of toys serves as your entry fee.

The Tennis Pro Shop will be Closed Thursday December 24, Friday December 25 and on New Years Day. However the tennis courts will remain open for play those days, weather permitting. The tennis court hotline will be updated for court conditions in the mornings on those days.

Interested in adding a video analysis to your lessons? CHCC is now offering Video analysis starting at $90 for the hour. Please inquire with the Full-Time Tennis Pros in scheduling an appointment to start working and improve your game for the upcoming Indoor and Spring Seasons! Guest Player Reminder Per the tennis committee, resigned CHCC members are not permitted to play at the club as a guest of any member for 1 year.

Planning for 2016 Tennis Member participation is vital for tennis socials and events to succeed. If you have any suggestions to increase participation, please direct your suggestions to the Tennis Shop.

Cold Weather Court Conditions If the temperature drops below 30° F, the clay courts will freeze and remain unplayable until mid-morning. If the temperature drops to the low or mid 20’s, the courts will be unplayable until mid-day or later depending on the daytime temperature, wind, cloud cover and precipitation. For those brave players wanting to still play during the lower temperatures, the hard courts will be perfect! Please check with the Pro Shop on availability of courts during the colder upcoming months.

Court Lights Reminder Please help with keeping tennis court light use to a minimum. When you come out to play and need the lights on, please turn the lights on for your court only and to please turn them OFF when you leave. Turning on additional lighting does not improve the lighting on your court since they are recessed.

2015 Junior Program Review This years’ junior program stayed extremely active in part to our successful junior clinics. Teaching Pros Mic Wallace, Jarrod Randle, Gene Hamilton, Lindsay Benton and Jaime Montalvo are enjoying the success of our juniors here at CHCC and in their weekend USTA tournaments all across North Carolina. We had 3 Quickstart & Junior Team Tennis teams this spring with close to 30 juniors participating with another trip to the State Championships for the CHCC Junior Program. Our 10s and 12 & under teams both competed in Lake Norman during the State Championship weekend and despite being 2 of the youngest teams in their respective divisions, they handled themselves with great sportsmanship and competed very well. Carter Harris and Ann Louise Newcomb won the coveted Best Sportsmanship Awards for the 10s and 12s Intermediate Divisions! We have a total of 21 juniors currently ranked in North Carolina in their respective age divisions with 6 juniors new to tournaments this year and have worked their way to a state ranking, and we’re still growing! We are so proud of our juniors here at the Chapel Hill Country Club and are looking forward to improving these rankings for 2016.

Sign Up For 2016 Winter Junior Tennis Clinics! We will do our best to keep our junior program going through the cold winter months here at CHCC. You may register for Tuesdays, Thursdays or both. In case of inclement weather taking too many days of clinic away, we will pro-rate your child attendance for this clinic as there is no make-up week. 2015 Adult Tennis Nearly 100 CHCC members played on 31 teams this year in our USTA spring, summer and fall seasons. Almost 35 ladies played in our 6 spring and fall Triangle Tennis League teams. We’d like to send out a big THANK YOU to the members for being so patient and cooperative when court availability was tough on some days due to the amount of matches we had scheduled each week. In the 8 weeks of high traffic during the spring and fall months of league play, courts were ready for members who were able to play before 9:30 AM or after 11 AM despite having 2 teams at home. To ALL the captains this year, thank you for taking on the responsibility of this job. Without your time and effort of keeping the teams organized each season, we would not be as successful as we have become each season. Keep up the great work!

Attention Captains: All 2016 team planning should not start until the 2015 end of season ratings have come out by the end of November. This will allow the captains to see which players have been bumped up or down. This will also allow the team captains plenty of time to get the names of any new players, new members, or former players at the club and give everyone an equal chance to find a team to play on between now and the start of registration in January. Once captains start forming their teams, they need to give the pro shop a preliminary roster of their team prior to registration. a. Social members are not eligible for league play. If a social member would like to play on a CHCC league team, they may convert to a Regular Resident Membership or a Sports Membership by paying the balance of the initiation fee at the time of conversion. b. Former CHCC Members who have resigned from the club have forfeited their membership rights and therefore will not be eligible to play on any CHCC league team. As per the bylaws: “A resigned member may apply to the Board for reinstatement or readmission at any time.” c. Inactive members have suspended their membership for up to a year’s time. During this time they “shall not be entitled to use any of the facilities of the Club” (Club bylaws). Therefore, inactive members are ineligible to participate in all club activity including league play until such time as they re-activate their membership.

Adult Doubles and Mixed Doubles Championships Saturday, November 21 This is our LAST Tennis event of the year, so let’s make it a Huge Success! We are hoping to have 4 divisions for this event: 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0+ and a 50+ depending on how many sign up for the event. If we are unable to separate all teams into 3 divisions, we will combine the groups and make them as even and competitive as possible. You can play in both, doubles and mixed doubles events or just one. When signing up, please let us know which event(s) you will be playing and who your partner is as well as your USTA level. If you are in need of a partner, we will gladly help you out. Weekly Events For Young Members The Terrace Room is the new official indoor space for young members! The playground closes as dusk, but kids are welcome to come play in the Terrace Room. The room is staffed each Wednesday night 6-8 PM to ensure that young members are safe and all having fun. On Fridays, we have 3 or more staff to help children with dinner and activities. The room features Air Hockey, Ping-Pong, Xbox, craft materials, and an adult to help.

Wednesdays Room is Open 6:00 - 8:00 PM $5 Reservations not required- just come to play!
