06 HOSPITALITY Our practice has in-depth experience in designing a wide variety of hospitality developments ranging from major resorts with multi-hotel and residential accommodation to 5-Star hotels in cities around the world. We have a clear understanding of the key aspects of the customer experience, which we carefully incorporate into our design proposals.

MOXY HOTEL, PLAZA GRAFINGER STRASSE MUNICH, GERMANY

Moxy Hotel will be a 150-key hotel which has been created in a joint venture between Marriott and IKEA. The contemporary design is targeted at the millennial and Gen Z generations, and draws inspiration from the former industrial use of the site – the lobby makes use of exposed steel and concrete accented by splashes of the brand’s signature pink colour. Generous rooms are designed to create the

feeling of an urban loft. The new hotel will be a key part of the wider Plaza Grafinger Strasse development.

Chapman Taylor’s Düsseldorf studio designed the concept masterplan for the Plaza Grafinger Strasse development. The new zoning plan for the Werksvietel district was approved by the City of Munich in 2017, with construction now well advanced.

A HOTEL CONSTRUCTED FROM PURPOSEBUILT STEEL SHIPPING CONTAINERS. Holiday Inn Express is a fully modular hotel building comprising a 220-room hotel over six storeys, with an associated car park. The hotel’s guest rooms, along with a corresponding section of corridor are made up of shipping container pods. The ground floor accommodates a bar and restaurant, four meeting rooms and a gym.

Working with Bowmer and Kirkland, Chapman Taylor developed the initial design and worked as Delivery Architects for this project, which won ‘Retail/Leisure Project of the Year’ at the 2018 Offsite Construction Awards and the ‘Offsite Construction’ Award at the 2018 NorthWest Regional Construction Awards.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL BANGKOK, THAILAND

THE SYMPATHETIC RENOVATION OF BANGKOK’S LANDMARK MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, a landmark in Bangkok, asked Chapman Taylor to renovate three areas of the hotel. The spa redesign renovated the exterior entrance, added two new facial treatment rooms and updated the Royal Suite. Existing treatment rooms were redesigned, a 25m² relaxation area added, back-of-house areas relocated and public areas renovated. The 67m² retail boutique features a timber gable ceiling, large louvred windows and teak flooring. Natural brass, timber cladding and lavish fabrics are complemented by a statement chandelier.

The renovation of the Neapolitanthemed Ciao Terrazza restaurant involved the use of stepped architecture and cast iron and brick wall finishes. Chapman Taylor was lead designer on the spa, retail boutique and restaurant, and also managed the construction phases.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL SPA BANGKOK, THAILAND

LOCATED ACROSS THE RIVER FROM THE MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL, GUESTS ARRIVE AT THE SPA BY BOAT. The redesign included improvements to the overall space planning, which was disjointed, renovating the exterior entrance, adding two new facial treatment rooms and renovating the Royal Suite. Chapman Taylor also redesigned all the existing treatment rooms, added a 25m² relaxation area, relocated the back-of-house areas and renovated the public areas, while also adding feature fabrics and paints and carrying out a complete lighting reconfiguration. The design was influenced by the hotel’s colonial-era style, drawing strong references from the region and adding some traditional country Thai touches. The design has a calming atmosphere, with all functions connecting from the central feature staircase, using a fine balance of simplicity and colonial-style detailing.

CIAO RESTAURANT MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL BANGKOK, THAILAND

A RELAXING SPACE WITHIN A MEDITERRANEAN-THEMED ENVIRONMENT.

Ciao Terrazza is a revitalised and stylish riverside restaurant, dedicated to fine Italian dining in a contemporary style. This 200m², 25-year-old restaurant, inspired by the Italian region of Naples, is a venue transformed – a space that blends with the colonial-style environment while feeling authentically Neapolitan. The design concept recalls the towns of the Amalfi coast, with bright colours, stepped architecture and cast iron and wall finishes throughout. On the

river-facing west side, with its unique lighting and bold colours, the ornate bar attracts the attention of people passing by on boats. The bar is one of the key design features of the restaurant, incorporating hand-painted Italian ceramic tiles from Naples. Chapman Taylor was lead designer of Ciao Terrazza, and also managed the construction phases, ensuring that the restaurant connected seamlessly to the rest of the hotel.

RENAISSANCE MARRIOTT 5-STAR HOTEL LUCKNOW, INDIA

AWARD-WINNING, LUXURY HOSPITALITY IN LUCKNOW. The Renaissance Marriott is a 120room, 5-Star hotel in a prime location with views over the Gomti River in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Spread over 16 floors, with a large banquet hall and a business centre on the ground and first floor levels, the hotel offers all-day dining, a multi-cuisine restaurant, a swimming pool and a bar. Before it even opened in 2015, the project was ‘Highly Recommended’ in the ‘Best Hotel Architecture for India’ category at the AsiaPacific Property Awards. Chapman Taylor was Lead Architect on this critically acclaimed, landmark hotel.

RADISSON BLU 5-STAR HOTEL & SPA KARJAT, INDIA

Radisson Blu Resort & Spa is a 102 room hotel retreat situated on the Ulhas River in Karjat, Maharashtra, a two-hour drive from Mumbai and Pune. Opened in 2016, the luxury hotel is connected by a series of courtyards and benefits from views across the river to the foothills of the Sahyadri Mountains. The project was initially designated ‘Park Plaza Resort- 4-Star Category’, but the architectural design concept helped the client upgrade the development to ‘Radisson Blu Resort – 5-Star Category’. The hotel has been rated by the Carlson Group as the "best Radisson resort property in India". Chapman Taylor was the lead design architect for the project, including the development of the landscape concept - one of the key components of the masterplan.

INTERIOR THEMES BASED ON THE DYNAMIC MOVEMENT OF THE SEA. Brighton Hotel is a 4-Star, 450room hotel development in central Pattaya, with conference and function room facilities complemented by a retail and F&B mall. The prominent site boasts sea views, which the design focused on maximising. The interior concept

reflects the local fishing culture and the dynamic movement of the sea, ensuring that the scheme blends harmoniously with its surroundings. Chapman Taylor’s Bangkok studio designed the architecture and interiors for the hotel.

MUI DINH ECOPARK VIETNAM

A BEAUTIFUL ECO-RESORT ON THE EAST COAST OF VIETNAM. Intended as an unrivalled hospitalityled, mixed-use development in eastern Vietnam, this 728-hectare masterplan is inspired by the rich local history of Mui Dinh. Six resort hotels and a boutique hotel provide a total of 7,000 rooms, with an additional 500 ocean-facing mountain villas. All the residents will have access to many leisure facilities,

including a theme park, a casino, a beach club and a mountain clubhouse. The Vietnamese government has approved the urban plan for Mui Dinh.

Radisson Red in Mohali is a new 4-Star hotel aimed at business people and young travellers wishing to explore India. Conveniently located 3km from the international airport at Chandigarh. it includes 160 rooms, a restaurant and a bar. The hotel is Carlson Rezidor’s first Radisson Red-category offering in India.

MEDIACITYUK TOMORROW MANCHESTER, UK

A BREEAM EXCELLENT WORKSPACE FOR DIGITAL MEDIA AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES. MediaCityUK Tomorrow is a sustainable, low-energy, mixed-use building which provides flexible office space for the digital media, technology and creative industries. Provided with world-class connectivity (awarded Wired ‘Platinum’ rating), the building is flexible and responsive to the changing needs of occupiers, while providing a fun working environment. The 112-bed hotel has its own entrance at ground floor.

Chapman Taylor used the latest 3D BIM technology to develop the design and integrate the structure, services and specialist elements into the building, delivering a fully co-ordinated design. The scheme is sustainable and energy-efficient, achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating. Tomorrow won ‘Best Workplace at the 2017 Northern Regional BCO awards.

ALRAYYAN HOTEL CURIO COLLECTION BY HILTON DOHA, QATAR

A 5-STAR HOTEL INTEGRATED WITH ALL THE FACILITIES OF THE MALL OF QATAR. Directly connected to the Mall of Qatar, this is the first Hilton hotel opened under its Curio Collection in the Middle East, at AlRayyan, Doha. The hotel provides easy access to shops, restaurants and leisure facilities at the Mall of Qatar. The hotel is defined by a dramatic internal atrium, its excellent F&B facilities and the infinity pools at roof level. Chapman Taylor was Design Architect for both the Mall of Qatar and the AlRayyan Hotel.

A MAJOR RESORT ON AN UNSPOILT AREA OF THE ADRIATIC COASTLINE.


The concept masterplan for a new resort located on the Adriatic Sea, 30 kilometres north-west of Tirana. The 2,121,600m² site is on a part of an unspoilt coastline of 20 kilometres, combining rocky hillside and sandy beaches.

The proposal, which comprises a total built area of 521,000m², contains all the desirable ingredients for a successful tourist destination. The design carefully integrates villas, apartments, luxury hotel, resort centre and a golf course.

TWO 2 TOWERS

SANTA MARTA, COLOMBIA

A BEAUTIFUL RESIDENTIAL AND HOSPITALITY RESORT WHERE THE MOUNTAINS MEET THE SEA.

Two 2 Towers is an innovative architectural project consisting of two magnificent hospitality and residential towers based on a podium overlooking the Caribbean. The building pays homage to its surrounding landscape by representing the image of a sailboat in motion, with the blue and green colours representing the mountains meeting the sea.

The Blue Tower hosts 92 apartments and a rooftop swimming pool, squash courts sauna, gym and kids’ areas in a landscaped space. The Green Tower contains 120 apartments and a suite, with a similar rooftop arrangement to the Blue Tower. The development includes a 100-room hotel, leisure premises, restaurants and recreational activities spread over 16 floors. The

project incorporates photovoltaic panels and rooftop wind turbines to generate renewable electrical power. Chapman Taylor designed the architecture and interiors for this striking, marine-themed resort development.

NOVOTEL RESORT HOTEL TANGIER, MOROCCO

SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE FOREST AND THE SEA.


Overlooking the sea and the forest, this 180-room hotel with spectacular views is delicately set on a mountain cliff with the public areas opening out onto gardens and a pine forest. The concept design was based on the idea of giving guests a cruise experience. The circulation and access from the main road are protected by a generous mashrabiya fence, while the rooms are orientated towards the sea, taking full advantage of the view.

FG ROYAL HOTEL RIGA, LATVIA

CREATING A DISTINCTIVE IDENTITY FOR A LANDMARK RIGA HOTEL.

This project is a concept proposal for the extensive refurbishment of the dated FG Royal Hotel in the heart of Riga, creating a modern 131-room, 4-Star hotel. The renovation is designed to increase room numbers and provide greater conference/meeting capacity, as well as to take advantage of high pedestrian footfall with new retail and F&B outlets. Rooms are extended and upgraded, and public areas are improved with the latest international level of mechanical,

electrical and internet services. The ground-floor dining area is enlarged to accommodate 100 covers internally (significantly more externally in summer). The scheme’s interior is influenced by Latvian Art Nouveau style, combining it with wider Baltic styles to create a distinctive identity for the hotel. Chapman Taylor was responsible for the concept design for this renovation project.

COMMODORE HOTEL LONDON, UK

The Commodore Hotel is a popular destination in Kensington, but the three townhouses that were combined to form the hotel needed updating. Our vision was to refresh the guest rooms and communal areas, and to consider extending the building to increase the number of rooms. The building is set within a conservation area with restrictions on certain extensions to ensure that properties are protected in their original state, so we created a design for the refurbishment and extension which exhibited the utmost sensitivity.

TWICE THE ONLY ASIAN STOPOVER ON THE ROUND-THE-WORLD YACHT RACE. The multi-award-winning Serenity Marina is the first world-class marina on Hainan Island. The marina has hosted the Volvo Round the World Yacht Race twice, being the only Asian stopover hostport in the Volvo Ocean Racing Series. To ensure the highest international marina standards, Chapman Taylor took expert advice from Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, one of the oldest and most prestigious names in the yachting field. The excellent mooring facilities are complemented by a combination of marine culture and

entertainment facilities. A sailing school, residential units, offices and retail outlets are part of the mix on offer.

A DRAMATIC TOURIST RESORT BESIDE THE DEAD SEA.


Crystal City lies on a superb site at the mouth of the Wadi Ma’in at the Dead Sea, with views into a dramatic gorge and over the sea. A mixeduse development, it is planned as a major tourist destination for Jordan. The gated residential component is at the south of the site, with a 5-Star hotel, waterpark and beach club being grouped in the centre and north of the plot.

The entire area will be given a special character by the wide variety of terraces, which are defined by pools, promenades and an amphitheatre fronting onto the coastline. Chapman Taylor produced the masterplan concept design for this large resort development.

Located on the western edge of New Cairo, the 30,000m² development occupies a prominent site and will accommodate a two and a half-storey centre of retail and F&B provision as well as a four-storey hotel and two levels of basement car parking. Both will serve the office buildings in the vicinity. It benefits from its proximity to Cairo International Airport and good road links to the Pyramids at Giza.

New Cairo is a new city just to the south-east of Cairo itself, designed to host a population of five million and relieve the congestion in downtown Cairo. It now houses the government’s Ministry of Interior, and has proved attractive for people looking to move away from the city centre.

Island Paradise is a major new resort on a group of islands in the beautiful Caribbean island paradise of Antigua. The masterplan is made up of four islands of varying size and mainland peninsula areas. All the sites have extensive coastlines of mangrove and beach-lined waterfront. Guests fly into Antigua and arrive at a stunning reception centre on Barnacle Point before being taken by yacht to the tropical island resorts.

The Coc San urban masterplan for the expanded city of Lao Cai in Vietnam will provide a modern and sustainable district in a luscious green mountain setting near the border with China.

The masterplan will include residential areas, a logistics centre, a retail boulevard, a cultural park, mountain villas, resort hotels, a commercial, district, a leisure and entertainment centre, a medical treatment centre and new urban farms.

TRANQUILITY AND ABUNDANT LEISURE OPPORTUNITIES IN A LAKESIDE FOREST RESORT.

The MOLO Lipno Resort will create a luxury leisure and residential destination offering 79 lakeside apartments and penthouses with beautiful views over the Lipno lake and the use of the peaceful ‘Zen Gardens’. A 5-Star resort hotel offering a premium spa, a restaurant, a private beach club, a beach volleyball court and underground car parking is also on the drawing board. The centrepiece for the development will be a 120-metre-long timber pier allowing for romantic walks to the heart of the lake, as well as giving access to the heated lake pool. Lipno is surrounded by Šumava National Park – a stunning ancient forest which is a haven for both flora and fauna. The area, near the Austrian border in southern Bohemia, is ideal for

watersports, sailing, hiking, cycling, skiing and horse riding, with numerous other outdoor leisure opportunities. Chapman Taylor’s proposals for the resort combine a detailed understanding of the needs of the resort’s residents and guests with a sensitivity for the beautiful countryside and lakeside context.

A NEW MIXED-USE QUARTER FOR WIESBADEN CITY CENTRE.

Quartier Fünfgassen – meaning “Five Lanes Quarter” – covers a 7,055m² site connecting Wiesbaden’s prime shopping street with the city’s main traffic artery. New streets and a new neighbourhood square will be lined with shops and a high concentration of restaurants, cafés and bars. The upper levels will be occupied by a hotel, leisure facilities and residential units.

The above-ground GBA of 23,000m² is divided between four buildings, each consisting of six levels. The scheme enhances the existing urban connections and opens up new links to the surrounding area, activating the interior of the city block and ensuring that the quarter will integrate seamlessly with the urban fabric. With a high number of restaurants and cafés, the quarter is set to become Wiesbaden’s prime food destination.
