THE TREASURER CHEST updates for club treasurers

FEEL FREE TO ASK MIKIE a friendly advice column Which fundraisers are the best for both raising money and socializing with fellow KIWINers? There are many different options your club can host that both raises money and allows an opportunity for your club to socialize. For example, your club can host sporting events, crafting events, and even movie nights. Start with a central theme and cater your event to it. If you are planning a Hawaiian Movie Night, create an incentive for people that participate. Give a raffle ticket to every member that dresses in Hawaiian gear and raffle off a prize. That always gets people to participate! How can I fundraise for DCON? Again, there are many different ways for your club to fundraise for DCON. First, try talking to your sponsoring Kiwanis Club and see if they will be willing to help lower DCON costs. Remember that they are always here to help us out! Second, plan a big event like a Benefit Concert, Movie Night, or even set up a fundraiser with a local restaurant. People are always in the mood to eat and knowing that a portion of their meal goes to help lower DCON costs makes the meal that much more enjoyable! Make sure when planning a fundraiser that you keep in mind that a 100% of the proceeds from fundraisers that involves people outside of KIWIN’S has to go to charity. These include bake sales, garage sales, and essentially anything that does not involve your general members. But if the money is coming from general members within your club, the profit can go towards DCON. Some ideas are flyer fundraisers, movie nights, and sports tournaments. Be creative when trying to plan a FUNdraiser! Questions? Ask at bit.ly/treasquestions and we'll answer them in our next issue!

Add a Registering for Awake A Thon is easy as 1,2,3! Prices are $10 for presale and $12 at the door. In order to pay the discounted ($10) price, which includes a slice of pizza and a drink, pay the money to your president. Presidents/club officers will record who has paid presale price and turn in the collected money to their respective Regional Advisors. Lieutenant Governors then compile those lists and communicate with their Regional Advisors to ensure that the money collected matches with the amount of people going. LTGs then send the list of those going to Charissa Nguyen, the District Treasurer. The lists will then be used to identify who has paid presale. During registration at Awake A Thon, tables will be set up for each division. Members will go to their respective table, state their name and be checked off. If they did not pay presale, they may also pay the at-the-door price of $12 at the table as well. Members will receive a wristband and a name tag.
