My name is Charlotte Rist, and I have just received my Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at Arizona State University. I was born in Hampshire, England but have spent a majority of my life being raised in Seattle, Washington. I have always had the goal of following a course of work that allows me to be creative and impact others in a positive way, which led me to pursue a career in design. To be a part of creating spaces that can evoke certain emotions in a person is a large driving factor for me. I have been working in the industry since September 2022 as an intern as Social Design Studio in Phoenix, Arizona and look forward to accepting exciting new opportunities to continue my career post-graduation.

MUSEUM OF PHOENIX
DESIGN CONCEPT
The idea of merging the old with the new in this historic preservation project, inspired the concept of symbiosis. Symbiosis is the interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both.
Symbiosis is the foundation for togetherness. through encouraging mutually supportive and beneficial relationships both human and otherwise. The Children's Museum of Phoenix is a habitat for everyone. Aligned with the spirit of the Monroe Street Abbey, the museum and its exhibits are driven by the importance of community, adaptation, and evolution.
THE MOTHER TREE
The largest and oldest tree that holds the rest of the forest together through mutual support, as the Monroe Street Abbey does for the surrounding community. Influencing a series of fungi-like structures added to the tower which now represents "the mother tree".
THE MYCELIUM
Mycelium grown from the mother tree can be harvested and turned into an entirely sustainable, durable building material that is biodegradable, cleans the air, and reduces fossil fuels. This became a key material for the project.

THE EXHIBITS
The 0-5 Exhibit is located on the first floor off of the courtyard and serves as an area for physical, cognitive and social development amongst ages 0-5. It is themed around the symbiotic relationship between bees and flowers and includes activities such as a reading pit, the slide and ball pit and sensory toys.
The 6-10 exhibit is themed around the symbiotic relationship between clownfish and sea anemones. This under the sea experience exposes children to real live fish in our very own tide pool and gives them opportunities to climb and move around throughout the space. Interactive spots on the floor give children patterns to follow while socializing and improving cognitive skills.

COMPANY CONCEPT
NEXT is a leading producer in robotics, specializing in creating products to help with everyday tasks for YOU. Their new research and development hub in Boston, Massachusetts aims to progress through the process of creating products to assist humanity.
DESIGN CONCEPT
As a small ingredient in NEXT products, a circuit board routes electronic signals and power between different parts of a device. Much like the way employees at NEXT must work together and pass along knowledge to work to develop a company goal. Boston is the perfect city for this new project because Bostonians share a common sense of pride and patriotism and are deeply connected just as the wires in the circuit board are.

CLINICAL
Keeping in mind the community and environment of Phoenix, design inspiration was found within a number of native Arizona plants that hold medicinal values. The holistic treatment of these plants fell hand and hand within the concept of wholeness. More literally, these were used to inspire color schemes and overall atmosphere within the clinic.
ORIGINAL DESIGN CONCEPT
Mountain Park Health Center is an existing site located at 3830 E Van Buren St Phoenix, AZ, 85008. The mission behind Mountain Park is to provide services to the greater Phoenix area by making healthcare more accessible and affordable.
OUR DESIGN CONCEPT
Our team was tasked with taking a look at MPHC and elevating their mission statement to encompass what we additionally saw to be valuable in a healthcare space. Our mission statement surrounded the importance of wholeness, meaning that all aspects must be considered in order for the patient to feel whole after their treatment.

While the main floor serves as an area for socializing and business meetings, the Luz Suites serve the goal of creating a relaxing space for guests to unwind. T H A N K Y O U !
Thank you for taking the time to look through my portfolio. This portfolio is an accumulation of my works over the past 8 semesters at Herberger's Institute for Design and the Arts at ASU. Over the years I have collaborated, experimented, and explored many new techniques to communicate my design intents to others. My hope is that my personal growth as a young designer is apparent across the works in this portfolio, and that I will continue to have the opportunity to include exciting new projects in the future.
