ABOUT EMILY COXHEAD
“After graduating from Manchester School of Art I decided I didn’t want to work for a big company or brand that was going to tell me what to do. Personally, I think that can sometimes defeat the whole point of being a ‘creative’, so I spent a year doing all kinds
of freelance design/ illustration work, whilst expanding my online shop creating lots of happy gift ideas, stationery and greeting cards... I did as much as I possibly could until everything started to fall into place.”

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO LEARN
Her many interviews look into her talking about the transition from Uni to the design work world, this would be a great opportunity to pick up on things we should be ready to face and do, to also reinforce the fact that it’s not as simple as just graduating and getting that job straight away. She’ll be able to reinforce what she personally did when she graduated to get where she is and how she felt. The start up of The Happy Newspaper. Also great to talk about how to handle the design industry personally/emotionally. Social Media hacks and Networking, how to keep your social media page fresh and active. How to network and also how she tripled her kickstarter company target The Happy News
“In a nutshell, the past two years have been the biggest roller coaster, in all the weirdest, most stressful and wonderful ways! I’ve learnt more in the past two years than I think I ever could have at university – I guess because you see actual, real consequences, or equally amazing results in the ‘real world’ which you don’t often see as a student.”
