wake up every morning either feeling fresh and ready to tackle the day ahead, or depressed and lacking the motivation to do anything. So whenever I wake up feeling depressed, I always start my day by jogging. The idea is to sweat – the more the better, because it gives me a boost and works as the perfect recharger to get me ready for a long, tiring day. If this sounds like too much hard work for you sleepy-heads, just try it. I bet you’ll come back and thank me.

Waterlogged residents on Bangkok Noi Canal bank to get flood barrier By Jeerawan Prasomsup

The Bangkok M e t r o p o l i t a n Administration (BMA) is planning to demolish homes along the Bangkok Noi Canal that suffer from repeated flooding every rainy season. City clerk Pongsak Semsan yesterday visited the Santiconsongkhro Community beneath Arunamarin Bridge, where about 35 homes situated a kilometre beyond the flood barrier were inundated after a tidal surge saw the river rise 1.75 metres yesterday morning. Another surge is forecast for today.

Demolition plans Pongsak has assigned the BMA drainage office and the Bangkok Noi district office to negotiate with residents to make way for the barrier’s construction. He said that residents with homes located within 360 metres of the bridge had agreed to move out, and plans for the Bt60-million barrier were under way. The city had already invited contractors to bid on the project, while all residents should have been rehoused within two weeks, he said. The flood barrier is due for completion before next year’s rainy season. DAILY

rookline – it’s the place that harboured HM the King’s humble beginnings. The building at 63 Longwood Avenue, where Thailand’s beloved monarch took his first steps, his father cooked meals and family members converged on the rooftop to play, doesn’t look like anything special. Pedestrians pass its modest two-storey brick façade every day but few know its history. Cholthanee Koerojna of Burlington is attempting to change that. Yesterday, the Boston Globe reported on her latest efforts to honour what she calls the Brookline Palace. “Standing in front of the place, sometimes I get goosebumps,’’ she said. “I think back

to 1928 and imagine seeing the children playing out front… I get a warm feeling just looking at the building.’’

Thai ceremony On Sunday, she presided over a ceremony to dedicate a plaque commemorating the King’s time here, from 1926 to 1928. Buddhist monks chanted and anointed the plaque with holy water before traditional Thai dancers performed on the sidewalk in front of the building. “I help people to learn about [the Royal Family], and I feel so proud,’’ she told the Globe. Most Thais are aware that the King was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, making him a rare foreign-born monarch. But fewer know the details of how

Prince Mahidol came to Boston in 1916 to study public health at Harvard and MIT. That was how he met his wife, a Thai nursing student at Simmons College – and a commoner. He returned to Harvard to study medicine in 1926, this time bringing his family. In Boston, he wanted to be known not by royal title but simply as Mr Songkla. Arriving in the city ahead of his family, he stayed in basic lodgings at the YMCA, Cholthanee told the Globe. “He wanted to live simply.’’ she said. “He considered himself down-to-earth.’’ Prince Mahidol first tried to rent a house in Brookline, but was refused a lease because the landlord didn’t want tenants with children, Koerojna said. So the family ended up living on

Body found in fridge The owner of a recycling centre in Taiwan made a gruesome discovery on Sunday when he found a decomposing body inside a used refrigerator. Hsu Chiu-feng, from the northern port city of Keelung, told police he bought the fridge from four young men. He noticed a dark liquid trickling from the old and rusty fridge, which was also giving out a foul smell, leading him to the grisly find. Hsu led police to the four young men, who said they had no idea how the body had ended up in the fridge. – AFP

Drugs cop busted

A father’s bid for TV fame Richard Heene provided an early glimpse of the chaos he was about to spark this week when, in a March episode of the reality TV show “Wife Swap”, he described his encounter with aliens, his plans to build a flying saucer and his UFOhunting expeditions with his children. After Heene realised that the lucrative reality TV business provided a golden opportunity to promote his endeavours, he and his family made it onto two episodes of “Wife Swap”, with another appearance being planned. All the while, Heene began assembling the infamous helium balloon in his backyard, piecing it together with foil, rope and duct tape. It all played out on Thursday in spectacular fashion on televisions around the world as a stunned Heene appeared shocked that his child has just vanished in the balloon. AP

Bubble bursts Charges to come as boy-in-balloon is declared a hoax AP, Fort Collins, Colorado

T

he story that a little boy had floated away in a giant helium balloon was a hoax concocted to land a reality television show, authorities said, and the boy’s parents will likely face felony charges. The stunt two weeks in the planning was a marketing ploy by Richard and Mayumi Heene, who met in acting school in Hollywood and have appeared on the ABC reality show “Wife Swap”, Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said on Sunday.

Proposed reality show Alderden also said investigators want to talk to Robert Thomas, a Denver man who claimed Heene had told him he was planning a stunt to promote a proposed reality show. Thomas sold his story to the

website Gawker.com, which billed it with the headline: “Exclusive: I Helped Richard Heene Plan a Balloon Hoax.” Thursday’s incident temporarily shut down Denver International Airport and caused the National Guard to scramble two helicopters in an attempt to rescue the boy, who was believed to be inside the home-made balloon that hurtled more than 80 kilometres across two counties. The drama played out on live television to millions of viewers worldwide. When the balloon landed without the boy in it, officials thought he had fallen out and began grim search for his body. The sheriff said he expected to recommend charges that carry a sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Richard Heene told reporters he was “seeking counsel”. “This thing has become so convoluted,” Heene said as tears welled in his eyes. Heene, 48, a storm chaser and inventor, has described himself as an amateur scientist, but Alderden said Heene has only a high school education. He most recently earned a living as a tiler, the sheriff said.

‘Nutty, but no professor’ “He may be nutty, but he’s not a professor,” Alderden said. Police were first alerted to a possible hoax on Thursday night during an interview on CNN, when Falcon turned to his dad and said what sounded like “you had said we did this for a show” when asked why he didn’t come out of his hiding place.

The head of Phnom Penh’s anti-drugs police team has been charged with illegal possession of drugs and taking bribes from drug dealers. Lieutenant-Colonel Touch Muysor was suspended earlier this month after police found thousands of amphetamine tablets in his office. Lt-Col Touch is the second officer in Cambodia’s drugs force to be arrested this month. On October 2, Lieutenant Bun Pov was arrested just one week into the job after police raided his home and found 18 kilograms of heroin and methamphetamine. – DPA

Aid workers’ordeal An Irish aid worker kidnapped by rebels in Sudan told on Monday, a day after her release, how she and a Ugandan colleague suffered mock executions during more than 100 days held in primitive conditions. Sharon Commins, 33, said she and Hilda Kawuki, 42, thought they were going to die several times during the ordeal. –AFP

No room for Zen in Vietnam

Diplomats’letters reveal scathing view of Thailand

Eviction of monk’s followers shows religious repression: rights watchdog

Nigerians are maddening, Nicaraguans often dishonest, Canadians deeply unimpressive and Thais commonly lewd, British diplomats claim in notes sent to Britain’s Foreign Office over the last five decades. The letters, disclosed to the BBC under Freedom of Information laws, include a parting shot from Anthony Rumbold, Britain’s ambassador to Thailand from 1965 to 1967, who mocked his hosts for an apparent lack of culture. “They have no literature, no painting and only a very odd kind of music; their sculpture, ceramics and dancing are borrowed from others, and their architecture is monotonous and interior decoration hideous,” Rumbold wrote. “Nobody can deny that gambling and golf are the chief pleasures of the rich, and that licentiousness is the main pleasure of them all,” he said.

he forced expulsion of more than 300 followers of one of the world’s most influential Buddhists highlights Vietnam’s suppression of religious freedom, Human Rights Watch said on Monday. “The government views many religious groups, particularly popular ones that it fears it can’t control, as a challenge to the Communist Party’s authority,” said Elaine Pearson, deputy Asia director of the USbased watchdog. It said that late last month more than 100 “thugs and undercover police” armed with sticks and hammers broke down doors at the Bat Nha monastery and forcefully evicted 150 monks who follow Thich Nhat Hanh. Follower Nguyen Phuoc Loc told media yester-

Nhat Hanh is a French-based Zen monk and peace activist. A day after the monks were evicted, according to a Human Rights Watch statement, more than 200 nuns were forced out

of Bat Nha and joined the monks in a temporary refuge at a nearby pagoda. The communist government says followers of the Frenchbased monk organised religious courses without permission and failed to register their temporary residence at the Bat Nha monastery.

But Human Rights Watch said the ousting of Nhat Hanh’s followers was “clearly linked to his call for religious reforms”. Vietnam says it always respects the right to democratic liberties and freedom of belief and religion. In the mid-1960s the thenSouth Vietnamese regime forced Nhat Hanh into exile but he returned to visit his unified homeland in 2005 and 2007. A foreign diplomat told media that Vietnam’s human rights situation was improving prior to 2007, “before they got what they wanted” – WTO membership and the hosting in 2006 of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit. Since then, the overall rights situation has worsened, said the diplomat. Loc, the follower at the scene, said about 250 of Nhat Hanh’s adherents remain at their temporary refuge in Phuoc Loc pagoda, while more than 70 others are elsewhere in the region or training in Thailand.

odel turned disc jockey Hathaiwan “Tokyo” Pratoombhong has earned a rep as a masher par excellence after appearing in the music video of popular rapper Da Jim’s new song “Dance” and showing off her skills with the elite group of turntablists known as the Pioneer Pro Lady DJs. “It’s the first time I’ve played a DJ role in a music video, though I have worked with other Grammy artists in the past,” says Tokyo after a show with the rapper at Song Saleung pub on Thonglor Soi 21. Tokyo, 26, was born and raised in Chon Buri. She says she’s been interested in music since childhood, though as a teen, her attention turned to extreme sports. “Ten years ago I was crazy about rollerblading and skateboarding, unlike most girls who wanted to do swimming or ballet,” she says. “At 15, I was the youngest and only female member of a rollerblade group. They mostly listened to hiphop and underground music and I learned most of my techniques from 411’s skateboard

video. But I stopped skating when I was 17.”

Cover girl After leaving school, she worked on the periphery of the music industry and soon found herself in demand as a model for local and international men’s magazines, among them FHM, Zoo and Maxim. A few years ago, she signed up for a DJ mixing course organised by Pioneer and was then invited to join the Pioneer Pro Lady DJs. “It’s really great that today everyone recognises and respects the Lady DJs,” says Tokyo, who spins electro, techno, trance and tech house. She performs at pubs along the Sukhumvit strip and has played at such events as the Bangkok Motor Show and the Pattaya International Music Festival, as well as at overseas gigs like the Super Import Night in Singapore. She’s working on developing a new set of drums ’n’ bass with London style. “Of course, people are going to remember me for my modelling career. There’s nothing I can do about that. But now I want them to see my new look as a Lady DJ.”

Barrichello shows his kind side Brazilian Rubens Barrichello yesterday laid on his private jet to fly newly-crowned drivers world champion Jenson Button, his team-mate at Brawn GP, home to London. Barrichello’s bid to beat Button to the world title ended when he suffered a puncture and finished eighth in Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix. But he put aside any ill feeling by flying to the rescue for the 29-year-old Englishman to make sure he could stay on and celebrate after finishing fifth to take the crown. Button was booked originally on the British Airways flight out of Sao Paulo on Sunday night because he has a public relations duty scheduled at the Bluewater Shopping Centre in England today. But Barrichello made sure Button would not miss out on the Brawn team’s celebrations in his native city with his offer at a time when praise was pouring in for both Button and the Brawn team’s achievements. – AFP

France will face Ireland in a two-leg play-off for a spot at next year’s World Cup in South Africa, while Portugal were drawn yesterday to play Bosnia-Herzegovina. Also, Russia will face Slovenia and Greece will play Ukraine. The draw featured the eight best runners-up from European qualifying. France got perhaps the toughest test of the four seeded teams. The French will travel to Dublin for the first leg and host the Irish for the crucial return. The matches will be played November 14 and 18. The draw for the finals will be made on December 4 in Cape Town. Next year’s 32-nation tournament is scheduled for June 11-July 11. – AP

Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard stretches during a training session at Melwood Training Ground.

REDS DESPERATE Liverpool look for Champions League boost A F P , Paris

L

iverpool, their English Premier League hopes punctured by their bizarre ‘beachball’ loss at Sunderland, must establish their European credentials Tuesday with a Champions League win over Lyon. After opening their Group E campaign with an uninspiring win over Hungary’s Debrecen prior to a demoralising loss at Fiorentina, Liverpool are aware dropped points against the French could see their Champions League hopes beached as well as their domestic dreams. Seven points behind Manchester United on the domestic front after shipping four defeats in nine games, the Merseysiders are inconsistency personified, although veteran Jamie Carragher insists the team can iron out their flaws. “We have the quality and the belief we will get back to winning ways soon, hopefully start-

ing on Tuesday against Lyon,” Carragher insisted after the Sunderland loss courtesy of keeper Pepe Reina being bamboozled by Darren Bent’s strike deflecting off a stray beachball thrown from the crowd. Key to Liverpool’s powers of recovery will likely be the fitness of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, who both missed the debacle at the Stadium of Light with groin injuries. Without either star, Rafael Benitez’s men are less effective but without both of their talismen much of the heart is stripped out of the team. Benitez as good as admits as much. “I can only pray that Gerrard and Torres will be fit, they are very important to us. I hope they will be available for Tuesday. “Steven is the captain, a leader and a player with quality who can always score goals. Clearly we will have to change something if he is still not fit, but that is the situation and we will have to adapt.” Lyon head into their Anfield cauldron with problems of their own. They head for

Anfield with central defenders Mathieu Bodmer, Jean-Alain Boumsong and Cleber Anderson all carrying injuries. An Anfield stalemate, coupled with a Fiorentina win at Debrecen, would severely compromise Liverpool’s hopes – though they have extricated themselves from tighter situations under Benitez, and not just the “miracle of Istanbul” in 2005. Arsenal are ready to keep the English flag flying high with a win at Dutch outfit Alkmaar having overcome early nerves to win at Standard Liege and then see off Olympiakos, who face off in Greece. Group F heavyweights Barcelona, the holders, and Inter Milan, are both at home having already ended all-square against each other in Italy – to Russian debutants Kazan and Dynamo Kyiv respectively. In Group G, Rangers have ground to make up as they host Romanian makeweights Unirea Urziceni having already lost at home to Spain’s Sevilla, who will have a foot in the next phase if they make it three wins out of three at Stuttgart.

onaldinho inspired 10man AC Milan to only their third win of the season with a come-from-behind 2-1 success against AS Roma at the San Siro on Sunday. While the first half in Milan belonged to Roma’s French winger Jeremy Menez, it was Ronaldinho who starred after the break, scoring one and creating the other – and quite possibly saving countryman Leonardo’s job as coach – before captain Massimo Ambrosini was sent off late on. “The most important thing was the incredible spirit we should,” said Leonardo. “The three points are all well and good but the main thing is the desire we’ve shown in all our performances.” The result moved Milan up to eighth in the Serie A table with Roma dropping to 11th. Roma coach Claudio Ranieri was unhappy about the penalty but blamed his players for the defeat. “Everything was shameful. We should have finished the match in the first half,” he said. “I wish it really was a penalty because there were one or two for us in the first half. I don’t think the Ambrosini’s sending off was right either.” Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid had their brittle confidence shattered ahead of tomorrow’s testing Champions League trip to Chelsea losing 3-0 at Osasuna on Sunday. Osasuna scored three times inside the opening half hour as Atletico’s suspect defence collapsed with Walter Pandiani (4min, 25min) scoring twice to take his season’s tally to five before Carlos Aranda notched a third on 29 minutes. Promoted Xerez ended a 62year wait as they finally won their first game in the Spanish top-flight defeating Villarreal 2-1 to move off the bottom of the table at their opponents’ expense.

BUTTON ON TOP OF WORLD Best race, says Briton as Webber takes Brazilian GP AP, Sao Paulo

enson Button clinched his first Formula One drivers’ title with a fifth-place finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday and his Brawn GP team made history by becoming the first to take the constructors’ crown in their debut season. “This race was the best race I’ve driven in my life,” Button said. “I knew I had to make it happen.” He was ecstatic at the finish, singing Queen’s “We Are The Champions” over the team radio as he crossed the line. Red Bull’s Mark Webber claimed only his second Grand Prix win ahead of Robert Kubica of BMW Sauber and defending champion Lewis Hamilton of McLaren. Home-crowd favourite Rubens Barrichello – Button’s Brawn GP team-mate and his closest rival at the start of the race – began from pole but finished only eighth after a puncture, while Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel couldn’t place higher than fourth after starting well down the grid. Fifth-place was good enough to give Button an insurmountable 15-point lead over Vettel in the drivers’ standings ahead of the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi on November 1. Button’s triumph gives Britain back-to-back F1 titles for the first time since Graham Hill won in 1968 and Jackie Stewart in 1969. Hamilton won last year, also clinching at the Brazilian GP. “I am the world champion. I’m going to keep saying it all night,” the 29-year-old Button

I’m sitting here as the world champion and that’s something you cannot take away.” In his 10th year in Formula One, Button had a historic start to the season by winning six of the first seven races, then was consistent enough the rest of the year to arrive in Brazil with a comfortable lead. It was a fairy tale finish for the Brawn GP team, who came to Interlagos with a commanding lead in the constructors’ standings, needing only half a point to clinch the title. “It hasn’t sunk in yet, it hasn’t sunk in yet,” team principal Ross Brawn said. “It’ll take awhile.”

I AM THE WORLD CHAMPION.I’M GOING TO KEEP SAYING IT ALL NIGHT. Jensen Button The team was created only a few weeks before the start of the season using the infrastructure of the former Honda team after the Japanese carmaker decided to withdraw from the

sport because of the global recession – a decision it may now be regretting. Button started only 14th after a poor qualifying performance in heavy rain on Saturday, but he drove aggressively from the start to quickly move up the grid. Barrichello, starting from pole, led for the first part of the race but dropped out of contention after the first round of pit stops. Webber took the lead after the first round of stops and dominated from there on. “Fantastic day for the team to win again,” Webber said. The victory secured second place for Red Bull in the constructors’ championship.

Force India driver Adrian Sutil blasted Toyota’s Jarno Trulli as “stupid” after the two men were involved in a dramatic first lap collison at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday. Sutil had started in third place on the grid at Interlagos, but his race was quickly over after Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen went past him before the Finn clipped the Red Bull of race winner Mark Webber. “The start was fine, I lost one position as Kimi overtook me on the outside. It was fine for the next corner but then Kimi hit Webber and lost his front wing,” explained Sutil. “I was following him through the corner but then suddenly I got hit in the rear and lost control of the car. Trulli was there on the outside trying to go round. “It was a really stupid manoeuvre as there was no space and I couldn’t see him at all. At that point it wasn’t worth it and it ended my race far too early on as I went over into the gravel. “Jarno was furious and said it was my mistake but I just told him what had happened to me. But it’s over and now he’s just got to deal with it.” Not surprisingly, Trulli saw the incident differently and sprinted angrily to confront Sutil at the side of the track. “I am extremely frustrated by what happened because I had a very good chance to challenge for the podium,” said the Toyota driver. “Sutil was very slow through turn four. He was on the inside so I took the outside line but he kept pushing me wider and wider. In the end I was on the grass and had no control of the car.” AFP

eaten challenger Rubens Barrichello swallowed his own disappointment on Sunday to salute his Brawn GP teammate Jenson Button on winning the world title. The 37-year-old Brazilian, who was upset at failing to win from pole position, admitted that he had not been able to capitalise on his opportunity thanks to traffic problems and then a puncture.

But he said Button was a worthy champion and he was delighted to see him take the title. Barrichello, very used to finishing as a runner-up after his many years as team-mate to Germany’s seven-times champion Michael Schumacher at Ferrari, finished eighth. He said that it had been a triumphant year for him because twelve months ago many pundits had written him off and

predicted his career was over. He said: “I’ve said before that people put flowers on my coffin at the beginning of the year, and I was back, driving a fantastic car and I was so, so up for it. “I’ve got to really thank God for the situation I’ve had for the year. It was a great car to drive all year. I’m pleased for Jenson as a friend and as a great champion, and if I didn’t win, he should have won it, so well

done to him. Jenson won it, and he deserved to do it, but he won it on the first six races, and I think the second half of the championship was mine. “It was a true fight and I fought really hard, but in a time of the championship when we didn’t have the performance of that grade anymore. So it was a big fight and I kept going, kept myself alive, and I’m really pleased.”

PHILLIES ON FIRE Lee stifles Dodgers as Philadelphia seize lead AFP, Philadelphia

P

itcher Cliff Lee dominated the Dodgers and got plenty of support from the Phillies bats yesterday in an 11-0 victory in baseball’s National League Championship Series. The lopsided triumph gave the reigning World Series champion Phillies a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series that will send the winners to the Fall Classic. Lee struck out 10 and allowed just three hits with no walks in eight innings. “Cliff Lee, what can I say about him? He was absolutely outstanding,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of the Cy Young Award winner acquired from Cleveland in July. Left-hander Lee has been outstanding in three starts this post-season, allowing only two earned runs in 24 1/3 innings for an 0.74 ERA. He has also struck out 20 and walked only three. Ryan Howard recorded a triple and Jason Werth homered as the Phillies took a 6-0 lead after two innings. Howard has driven in a run in all seven of

ning. Werth followed that with a two-run homer, and that was more than Lee needed. Lee surrendered two singles to Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez and one to Ronnie Belliard. Lee also hit a single in the eighth and scored on Shane Victorino’s three-run homer in the eighth. Chad Durbin relieved to begin the ninth and pitched a hitless inning. The Phillies wasted no time in pouncing on Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda. Every starter except Raul Ibanez had a hit and all nine starters scored a run. Kuroda, making his first start in 20 days, got just four outs. He was pulled after allowing six runs and six hits. “I think I made it hard on myself because I couldn’t throw the first-pitch strikes,” Japan’s Kuroda said. “It just became harder and harder later on in the count. That’s it.” Dodgers manager Joe Torre went with Kuroda over Chad Billingsley even though Kuroda was unavailable for the first-round series against St Louis because of a herniated disk in his cervical spine. Kuroda refused to blame his performance on any problem with his neck. “I’m not going to make that the excuse, and I don’t think it was the reason,” he said.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT Patiwat loses, Chonnapas takes bronze DAILY XPRESS

T

wo-time Universiade gold medallist Patiwat Thongsalap drew a blank even as his compatriots captured four medals in the WTF World Taekwondo Championships. Lightweight Patiwat, who was hampered by an injury to his ring finger, failed to get past the quarter-finals, falling to American Mark Lopez, a silver medallist at the Beijing Games, 5-3. Patiwat, who received a first-round bye, outpointed Afghan Sayed Karimi 12-7 and Belarusian Vitali Kolas 7-6 in the second and third rounds respectively. The Thai maintained his impressive form, beating Greek Anostis Nikolaidis 7-5 in the last 16 round. Chonnapas Premwaew

lightened up the mood in the Thai camp with a bronze on the final day. Lightweight Chonnapas, a bronze medallist at the 2005 world meet in Madrid, lost in sudden death after a 1-1 tie at the end of the three-round contest against China’s Zhang Hua, a champion at Martial Arts Games in Bangkok this year. En route to the semi-finals, Chonnapas crushed Turkey’s Sibel Sagir 9-2 and Australian Carmen Marton, bronze medallist at the 2005 world meet in Madrid, 7-3 in the sec?ond and third rounds respectively. The Thai fighter stunned Canadian Karine Sergerie, de?fending world champion and silver medallist at last year’s Beijing Olympics, 6-4 before going down in the se?mi-finals. However, the presence of world-class ri?vals from Iran, South Korea, USA, China and Afghanistan made it tough for us. We won four medals here,

rew Brees and the Saints spoiled Eli Manning’s homecoming and the New York Giants’ unbeaten record, remaining unbeaten themselves with a dominant 48-27 National Football League victory yesterday. Manning grew up in New Orleans but was playing for the first time in the Superdome. Minnesota’s Brett Favre threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-31 victory over Baltimore that saw the Vikings improve to 6-0. New England’s Tom Brady lead the Patriots to a 59-0 drubbing of winless Tennessee. Brady threw six touchdown passes – five of them in the second quarter for an NFL record for one period. The six scoring tosses matched Brady’s own franchise record, and the 59point margin of victory equalled the biggest since the NFL merged with the American Football League in 1970.
