We would like to let all our teams, donors and sponsors know that we appreciate your continued support of our event and many have already indicated that they are on board for September 13th. The Walk had been scheduled for Sept. 20

at McDonald Park. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced a change not only here, but across Western Canada. As a result, the B.C. and Yukon Branch of the Kidney Foundation of Canada has joined with branches in Alberta and Saskatchewan to hold virtual walks on June 7. “While we are disappointed that we won’t be holding our annual Kidney Walk, we really want the kidney community in Kamloops and area to know that we’re still here for them,” said Gregg Drinnan, one of the local Walk organizers. The virtual walks are being called Walk The Block. More information is available at kidneywalk.ca or at https://kidney. akaraisin.com/ui/BCWALKS2020/ about. "The Chase & District Museum & Archives Society would like to inform its members that the Annual General Meeting has been postponed and will not be held at it's usual time. Better at Home

O’Brien notes volunteers are vetted and undergo a criminal background check. With COVID-19, O’Brien is hoping more people will take an interest in volunteering, noting there are currently no volunteers working for the program in Salmon Arm. She says there’s no pressure on volunteers, whose work may involve doing deliveries or just checking in on seniors with a phone call. “We are managing OK right now but we certainly do appreciate anyone that is wanting to volunteer to connect with us, and maybe it will end up being a

situation where they’ll stick around and they can end up volunteering down the road if needed,” said O’Brien. If anybody needs help, or knows of a neighbour who needs help, O’Brien invites them to contact Shuswap Better At Home by calling 250-253-2749, or emailing sbahintake@outlook.com. “We will definitely be in touch with them, we will let them know what we can do and hopefully we will be able to give them any other information they need,” said O’Brien.”

LETTER TO THE EDITOR Shopping Challenges I was shopping on April 2nd and was deeply saddened by the behavior of two men and one lady near the checkout area. Each acted alone and could have easily waited or walked down an aisle to keep 2 meters/6 feet away from others. Instead, they brazenly disregarded the minimum separation distance. They walked between customers who were waiting in line and who were maintaining 2 meter

separation. Although I was waiting in line and on the 2 meter red dot I moved to try to keep a 2 meter distance from the two men. I also told the lady to keep her distance when she boldly walked through two checkout lines. Please remember that you may not have Covid-19, but if you pass within 2 meters of someone they may infect you. Respect and patience please. - Frank Fugger

Photo by Ann Steenhuysen On April 7th, The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) responded to a wildfire approximately three kilometres north of Chase and west of Highway 1. Seven BCWS personnel responded to the wildfire, which was classified as Out of Control and estimated to be two hectares in size. BCWS worked in conjunction with the Adams Lake Fire Department.

On April 8th the BCWS stated that the fire is"located in very steep terrain that has been challenging for crews. Despite this challenge, personnel on site have been able to hand guard both flanks of the fire." They also indicated that smoke may remain visible from this incident over the next few days.

Ingredients: ½ cup cocoa butter or virgin coconut oil (see note, above) ½ cup unsweetened cocoa or raw cacao powder (see note, above) 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup ½ teaspoon vanilla extract Muffin-tin liners Optional: a pinch of ground cinnamon, cardamom, or other spices Step 1 In a small saucepan, melt the cocoa butter (or coconut oil) over low heat. Tip: Cocoa butter (or cacao butter—the two words mean the same thing) is made from the fattiest part of the cacao bean. It’s yellowish-white, and tastes a lot like white chocolate, a type of candy made from cocoa butter, milk, and sugar. Despite its name, cocoa butter doesn’t contain any dairy at all—it’s a vegetable fat, like olive or coconut oil. Cocoa butter is also good for you; it contains healthy fats and antioxidants. Step 2 Add the cocoa powder and honey and stir until well mixed, about 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and any spices you’re using. Step 3 Carefully spoon or pour the chocolate into muffin-tin liners (filling each with about ½ inch of chocolate) and refrigerate until solid.
