Pin Chatter: News from the Bowling Alley
Submitted by Calyn Collins, Village Lanes What a week it was! This past week was all about our YBC bowlers! On Saturday night, we hosted our Annual High Rollers tournament at the lanes! This tournament is for all of the men who bowled a 300 score or higher, and for the ladies who BOWLING SUCCESSES: On bowled a 250 score left: Haylee Nakazawa. On right: or higher throughout Natalie MacDonald, Tristan Jules, the season! We were and coach Violet Nancekivell. fortunate enough to have two of our YBC bowlers qualify to bowl in this event, Brook Mindel and Haylee Nakazawa. The very first game of the tournament, Haylee was on a roll. She started out with a strike in the first frame, and then didn’t do much in the next two frames. Much to everyone’s surprise, Haylee then ended the game with NINE strikes in a row! That is a feat that even some of the very best bowlers in the Province and Country haven’t accomplished. Haylee bowled an outstanding 359 game. Needless to say she beat all of the adults and high average bowlers. She won the tournament and averaged a 258 for the three games. Pretty amazing considering her average is just a 167. Way to go Haylee! While she was busy doing that, two of our other Youth Bowlers, Natalie MacDonald and Tristan Jules were competing in Kelowna at the High Low Doubles Provincial Championships, and they definitely didn’t disappoint! We were very thrilled to get the call that they ended up winning a bronze medal, along with their coach, Violet Nancekivell! Well done guys! We have lots of exciting things happening at the lanes in the next couple of weeks, including Spring Leagues starting up on April 25th! If you haven’t yet, call us and get the information you need for a fun, 5-305 Brooke Drive eight week league! Until next week! Chase, BC

Humboldt Alive In Our Hearts Submitted by Scott Koch
Hockey in this country for those who love and support it, is very much like a religion. And Friday, the 6th, the Hockey Gods were not on our side. We hurt because we in our little Village enjoy some great entertainment from our own fine young men the HEAT, just like the community of Humboldt Saskatchewan does with their Broncos. We open up our homes to them as billet parents, we coach them, mend their wounds and injuries, we cheer them on, and most importantly we as a community have an impact on them. The hockey world suffered its worst nightmare, a heartbreaking event involving 29 members of the Humboldt Broncos Team, 15 who lost their lives. And while we didn’t know them, we did know them, they had the same dreams that our HEAT have, and so we feel the
