Visitor Centre gets $40,000 Destination BC Grant submitted

by Chase and District Chamber of Commerce

The Chase Chamber of Commerce, operator of the Chase Visitor Center, is happy to announce that we are one of the successful applicants for the Destination BC’s Experience Enhancement Grant 2024/25. We received the full grant amount of $40,000 to help us create self guided walking tours, update the town map board, and install rotating public art

displays in Chase.

We believe that this will be a positive addition to our village and will encourage visitors to linger a little longer, and residents to discover a history they may not have been aware of.

We look forward to working with all involved in creating this exciting endeavour between now and the summer of 2025.

Chase and District Fish and Game May Activities

Well May is going to be a very busy month for CDFGC! Our Club will be hosting the Traditional Bowhunters of BC 3D Provincials at our range on May 17, 18, 19th and the weekend right after we will be hosting our own CDFGC 3D shoot on May 25th and 26th. Our club house and range will be busy that weekend with guests coming from around the province to participate. That means our range will be closed to pistol, rifle and shotgun on those 2 weekends. There will also be a work bee to clean up the trails and property on Saturday, May 4th. The ranges will be closed for clean up that day as well.

For those readers who do not know what 3D archery is, here is a short explanation.

A 3D archery round consists of a set number of three-dimensional (3D) foam targets in the shape of animals of various sizes from very large to small. The targets are set at a variety of unmarked distances along an outside trail. The archer who competes estimates the distance to determine where to aim. There are target areas on the animals worth a varying number of points. To score, an arrow must be stuck in the target. Depending on the tournament, archers can shoot 2040 targets. Each target in the course is marked by several rings, located around the vitals, or the “kill zone” of whatever animal it is. Each ring is scored differently. Competitors shoot 2 arrows at each of the targets in succession as

they walk through the course and record their points as they go. For the most part, the maximum distance you’ll shoot in a 3D competition is 50 yards. There are divisions for kids, novices, adults, male, female and subdivided into types of bows: compound bow, recurve, traditional long bow, crossbow etc. The same type of bows compete against each other in the same class. A long bow does not compete against a crossbow.

Even if you are not an archer, it is also fun to walk with the archers and watch them shoot at the targets. Watchers also come in handy if the archer misses and then has to find his arrow buried somewhere in a bush, grass, dirt or tree!! It helps to have extra eyes following the arrows.

If you are interested in archery, you should think about coming out and giving our 3D shoot a try. It’s lots of fun even for beginners! Entry fee must be paid in cash. For more information on our 3D shoot please contact Vickey Bischoff at 250-955-2374 or Brian Lauzon at 778220-3032. Also, if you are a member of our club, you have access to use our stationary outdoor archery target range to practice any time you want except when the shotgun Trap area is being used on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Keep an eye out for our 3D poster and advertising as we get closer to event time.

Our next general meeting is being held Monday, May 13th at 7pm at Creekside Senior Center. Hope to see you there.

Gordon Lightfoot’s Music Still Much Loved!!

Mounted by Wildwood Productions, celebrations of the man and his music – iconic Gordon Lightfoot – can only be described as a wonderful walk down memory lane as well as superb recognition of one of Canada’s greatest songwriters. The latest two-hour show, held on April 13th at the Chase Community Hall, was also a fundraiser for the Chase Environmental Action Society

presented. Musicians and singers delivered the distinct stories in his lyrics with performances from the heart. Your journalist’s poem about the life and career of Gordon Lightfoot, entitled “Lighting Our Way,” was also very well received. Connection with the fans in attendance was palpable.

Thank you to Chase and area residents for attending the tribute to Gordon Lightfoot by the Wildwood Productions Band, which included our very own Carolyn Parks-Mintz and James Mintz, on Saturday, April 13th.

The show is to be remounted on the evening of May 25th the R.J. Haney Heritage Village, just outside Salmon Arm.

Gordon Lightfoot lives on through the marvelous music he has left us. Bravo!

NOTICE

Water Main Flushing Program 2024

Chase Public Works will begin its new annual Water Main Flushing Program beginning April 22nd, 2024 and lasting until complete, approximately mid May.

Our annual flushing program allows us to continue delivering exceptional water to our utility clients, and also allows us to reduce the amount of chlorine needed to maintain a minimal residual within the system.

Flushing in the Spring allows us to take advantage of snow melt water and helps us to flush our storm water system at the same time, removing sediments that build up over time. Water used in flushing our water mains is de-chlorinated and repurposed for flushing catch basins, leads, mains and culverts.

Why are we flushing our water mains? The flushing program is conducted annually and provides the following benefits:

• Improved water quality

• Improved system hydraulic capacity

• Improved system operation by identifying weak or problem areas

• Improved/restored chlorine residual

• Decrease turbidity within the system when large volumes of water are used in such cases as firefighting and bulk water use

For more details go to www.OurRotary.com

Shop early and you can leave your donation at PharmaChoice and Safety Mart. There will be bags available at these locations.

If you would prefer to donate by cheque please make it out to the Chase Hamper Society. Thank you for supporting your local food banks.

ourrotary.com

How does water main flushing affect your water?

During the flushing process, low pressures and discoloured water may be experienced for short periods. Any discolouration is temporary and is not a health hazard. Village staff collect and test water samples for chlorine residual throughout the entire distribution system regularly, by law, to ensure that the water is safe for consumption. If any discolouration is noticed, residents are asked to open their outdoor cold-water taps (after flushing hours) and allow it to flow until the water becomes clear.

It is important to note that even if flushing is not occurring directly on your street, the connecting streets in your area could be affected as well.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Water Main Flushing Program, please contact the Village Office at 250-679-3238.
