A PERFECT DAY ON THE RIVER

O

Submitted by: Sandy Gregson-Meyer

n Sunday August 16th, 12 square dancers from Kamloops & Pritchard area, in 3 canoes, a rowboat, & 2 kayaks launched their boats at Chase to take part in the 13th annual Banana Island Canoe trip. This is a delightful canoe trip down the S. Thompson River, ending at Pritchard. After a picnic on Banana Island, they danced on the beach…….some even danced in the water to earn their ‘Aquaducks’ badge. The weather was absolutely perfect and surprisingly, the water was warm. This trip is always a great opportunity to enjoy the serenity, see some wildlife, and get some enjoyable exercise all in one day

and is one of many options Modern Square Dancers enjoy. For more information about Modern Square Dancing, including new dancer sessions starting in the Fall, call 250-3765636, or email: meyerdance@telus.net.

Minor Hockey Refs Needed & Team Updates Submitted by: Chase Minor Hockey Executive

Chase Minor Hockey is currently looking for more referees! For those that have not been registered before, we will be conducting the classroom sessions in Chase on Aug. 24-26, which consists of a 3 hour online video training session. Afterwards, there is an onsite session in Vernon on August 29th, that all refs will need to attend. For those interested or require more info, contact Jane Herman at jherman@cablelan.net or at 250-851-6524. Chase Minor Hockey has changed their decision to go Rep for the PeeWee and Bantam teams this year. Although it would have been nice to offer, we just don’t have the number of players we thought we could get this year.

The Chase Heat are still committed to assisting in the development of our now Recreation teams, so we can potentially go Rep in coming years.

While Kage was in Chase he visited with his grandparents Bill Deleeuw and Vicki Sampolio. Vicki is the manager of Sahhaltkum Daycare. Kage had fun playing with the children at the daycare. Diana Grambo thought the daycare could use more indoor and outdoor toys. So off they went shopping. Grandma Vicki was happily surprised and proud to receive the donation from her grandson Kage. Grandpa Bill was too! Kage and his grandma Diana were happy to contribute to Chase community.

I am only asking - Is there racism in Chase? Heaven forbid, I am only asking. Do you ever ask your aging neighbour “can I help you with something today?” Why did they cut down 9 cottonwood trees on the school grounds? And who is paying for that? Was it for the new highway? How do you think the new Village is doing? Who has the best coffee in town? Why is coffee so expensive in some places? Do you think that Chase could survive on tourism? What do you think? Or are you thinking? I am only asking. Is there a place in Kamloops where you get free coffee with your meal? And how can they do that? What is the difference between some Canadians and a canoe? Do
