MOONLIGHT MOVIE NIGHT IN CHASE submitted by Chase Minor Hockey
Chase Minor Hockey is pleased to partner with Interior Savings Credit Union to present the Moonlight Movie Tour on August 23 in Chase!! The movie Ferdinand will be shown on the giant inflatable screen between Chase S e c on d a r y School and the Art Holding Memorial A r e n a . Chase Heat will be operating a full concession and the Mini Donut trailer will be on site. While there is no charge to attend the event, a donation of $3.00 per person or $10.00 per family would be appreciated. All funds benefit Chase Minor Hockey in their quest to raise money to purchase the rink dividers needed for the implementation of Novice crossice hockey. There is also a fundraiser happening for those who would like to “purchase a foot” of the divider. Anyone
wishing to pay $50.00 for a “foot” will get recognition on a sign in the arena for the upcoming season! These dividers are costly but desperately needed to deliver the cross-ice program. Festivities begin at 7:00 pm, there will be street hockey sponsored by Chase Minor Hockey in the parking lot and Chase Fun Soccer will be onsite. So bring your stick and or soccer shoes. The concession will be open for scrumptious fries, poutine and hotdogs and of course popcorn for the show!! Movie goers will want to bring cash for admission and concession treats in addition to lawn chairs, blankets and warm clothing. For more info visit Chase Minor Hockey’s Facebook page or https://www.interior savings. com/AboutUs/Events/ or contact Jane Herman @jherman@cablelan.net

Local gymnast heading to Austria submitted
Local gymnast Brook Mindel and her Kamloops gymnstreada team have qualified for the 14th World Gymnstreada in Vorarlberg, Austria. They competed in the Canadian Gymnstreada in Burnaby in July and competed against 55 teams to get the opportunity to go. Canada will send 20 gymnastics teams to compete in July 2019. 20,000 gymnasts from more than 60 countries will enchant Vorarlberg in a colourful,
friendly and athletic world of gymnastics and acrobatics. Brook has to raise $4500 to pay for the trip and will be participating in local fundraising initiatives to offset the cost. A go fund me account has been set up called “Brook Mindel World Gymnstreada” if anyone wants to support this athlete. Congratulations Brook and make Chase proud!!
Update on Panda the Cat after leg amputated submitted
Thanks to everyone who contributed, Pawprints Animal Rescue collected enough money to pay for Panda's recent leg amputation. Panda came into the care of Pawprints Animal Rescue after being surrendered by his previous owner who chose not to provide any care for Panda after he was electrocuted and his front right leg was badly damaged. Pawprints' vet recommended full leg amputation for Panda's long term comfort and health. Thanks to the generosity of the folks in Chase and surrounding areas, we were able to pay for Panda's surgery - his stitches came out July 30 and he is now ready for his forever home. He is a big boy, about 5

THE CHASE HEAT JUNIOR HOCKEY SOCIETY NEEDS YOUR HELP!!
BILLET HOMES NEEDED We need Billet Homes for the 2018/2019 hockey season!! Season is September until end of February/ March. We need you to open your home! Please help us keep THE HEAT in Chase.
Each billet home receives $600.00 per month / per player and one general admission pass. The Chase Heat will be arriving in town in August to start their 2018-2019 hockey season. Once the team has been selected the out of town players will need a place to live for the hockey season (September 2018-March 2019). The boys come from all areas of British Columbia and beyond and vary from 16 to 20 years in age. Some boys are still in school (these players attend Chase Secondary during their stay in Chase) and some have already graduated. What they all have in common is their love for the sport and their desire to provide Chase with many hours of exciting hockey. Being a billet family is a rewarding experience and adds a whole new dimension to the otherwise dreary Chase winter. It is important that you are able to welcome these boy/boys into your home and provide him/them with healthy meals and a safe environment. This ’home away from home’ is important to enable the boys to be successful on the ice and in everyday life. Providing a smoke free living area is essential. If this opportunity sounds intriguing and you would like more information please Contact Lana Adamson 250-574-3681
Elk
Age: 11 Do you have any furry siblings? Nope, I am an only child. Do you prefer sticks or bones? Bones for sure, they keep me busy. What is your most prized possession? Definitely my stuffed baby animals. I take care of them as if they are my own. What is your favourite activity to do with your humans?

I like to go for walks so that I can sniff everything around town, that’s how us canines experience the world. Are you much of a water dog? Absolutely not. Even a little bit of rain prompts me to go inside. Do your humans share their bed with you? Not that they know of... I do have my own bed but sometimes I’ll sneak onto the human bed when no one is around. Do you have a day job? Yes. Currently, I am the assistant manager at Pebbles Place and Pedal Bros on Shuswap Ave.
Wilson Park liked as is
This is a reply to Rusty, that wants a dog park so they can run free at other tax payers expence. Is it not good enough that we have to support your doggy bag expence to pick up your poop? Now you would like us to fence a park so you can run free like school yard kids? Maybe your owner should have thought about that before your owner took you home. Maybe they should have bought a larger property since they would like a doggy park for you to run free, then you could invite all your friends over to run free the like schoolyard kids , or maybe they should try and fence part of the Chase primary school yard for a doggy park , since your owner would like you to run free like school yard children instead of fencing Wilson Park. We like it as it is used by people. Concerned Citizen of Chase and Wilson park neighbour, T Hudson

MUSIC ON THE LAKE - WEEK SIX
Tatiana Speed
submitted by Chase & District Festival Society
Singer/songwriter Tatiana Speed has taken her music around the world, performing f o r s i g n i f i c a nt international e v e n t s such as the Peoples Climate March in New York City, COP 21 in Paris, France and most recently in Islamabad, Pakistan for the World Peace Youth Summit. Sharing a message of peace, unity, while raising awareness for different humanitarian causes, Tatiana has worked in collaboration with indigenous communities, grassroots organizations and student initiatives raising money and awareness for disaster relief, climate change and women’s empowerment. In 2015, Tatiana founded the initiative Music for Change, a workshop designed to raise awareness for Climate Change which she has led to universities and youth groups in Vancouver, New York, and Paris. With a deep love for the spiritual truths embodied by the worlds great religions, Tatiana has also shared her music in a variety of religious and spiritual contexts performing for Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist events and services - always with the intention of being an instrument for the sacred and a unifying element for the many voices of love, peace and forgiveness. Following the death of her father to brain
cancer in 2011, Tatiana has been inspired to take her music into cancer agencies, hospice centres and seniors homes having seen first hand the power of music as a source of healing, peace and as a medicinal tool for processing grief and coming to a place of loving acceptance. Come check her out Tuesday night at 6:30 at Memorial Park.

High temperatures expected submitted by Interior Health
Temperatures across B.C. are expected to soar this weekend. Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for much of the province, including parts of the South and North Thompson and Fraser Canyon in IH. Too much heat can be harmful to your health and can lead to weakness, disorientation and exhaustion. In severe cases, it can also lead to heat stroke, also known as sunstroke. Heat stroke is a lifethreatening medical emergency. Here are some signs to watch for and suggested tips to keep you safe and healthy. Symptoms to watch for The symptoms of heat-related illness can range from mild to severe. They include: • pale, cool, moist skin; • heavy sweating; • muscle cramps; • rash; • swelling, especially hands and feet; • fatigue and weakness; • dizziness and/or fainting; • headache; • nausea and/or vomiting; • fever, particularly a core body temperature of 40° C (104° F) or more; • confusion and decreased mental alertness; • hallucinations; • red, hot, dry skin (in the late stages of heat stroke); • seizures; and unconsciousness/co What steps can people take to avoid heat related illness? · Never leave children or pets alone in a parked car. Temperatures can rise to 52° C (125° F) within 20minutes inside a
vehicle when the outside temperature is 34° C (93° F). Leaving the car windows slightly open will not keep the inside of the vehicle at a safe temperature. Drink plenty of fluids. Drink extra water even before you feel thirsty. · Keep cool - stay indoors in airconditioned buildings or take a cool bath or shower. At temperatures above 30° C (86°F), fans alone may not be able to prevent heat-related illness. · Remember, sunscreen will protect against the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays but not from the heat. · Plan your outdoor activity before 11 a.m. or after 4 p.m., when the sun’s Ultra Violet Radiation (UVR) is the weakest. · Avoid tiring work or exercise in hot, humid environments. If you must work or exercise, drink two to four glasses of nonalcoholic fluids each hour. Rest breaks are important and should be taken in the shade. · Avoid sunburn - use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. · Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide brimmed hat, or use an umbrella for shade. · Regularly check older adults, children and others for signs of heat-related illness and make sure they are keeping cool and drinking plenty of fluids. Check on those who are unable to leave their homes, and people with emotional or mental health concerns whose judgment may be impaired. · For more information on heatrelated illness, visit the HealthLinkBC website or dial 811.

Union of BC Municipalities Annual Convention is being held in Whistler during the week of September 10 to 14, 2018. Mayors, Councilors, Regional District elected officials and some Indigenous community leaders attend UBCM to share information with each other, to learn more about how governance works at the local government level in BC, and to bring forward important issues on behalf of their community constituents. The Village of Chase has a link to the UBCM website on our website (chase@chasebc. ca<mailto:chase@chasebc.ca>) and we urge anyone interested to check out what UBCM is all about and how it provides a strong voice for local governments in British Columbia. This is also an opportunity for local government leaders to meet with Provincial Government Ministers to bring forward specific issues important to their communities - last year for example, Mayor and Council met with the Minister of Transportation to ensure that the needs of the community are heard relating to the highway upgrading that will affect Chase. Local Government Elections October 20, 2018 - All local governments in BC will be holding elections this year for Mayor, Councilors, and Regional District Electoral Area directors. In addition, School Districts in BC will be holding elections for school trustees. Information about the election as it pertains to the Village of Chase can be found on the Village’s website. Music on the Lake is going strong, with more fine musical acts serenading us on Tuesday evenings as we lounge in our lawn chairs in the most beautiful park around! Come on down and check out the musical variety, and the food variety too! Got children between 4 and 11 that have some extra energy and you’ve run out of things to keep them busy? Why not consider enrolling them for a day, a few days, or a few weeks, in the Village’s summer program. Activities are very diverse, including crafts, theme activities and of course, splashing about at the wading pool! Program activities are at the Community Hall - information available at various locations in Chase including the Village office. The program runs until August 24, 2018. Do you have yard and food waste that could be turned into beautiful soil? Why not consider purchasing a garden composter from the Village of Chase for $25. For more information check out our website or contact the office at 250.679.3238 Memorial Park Boat Launch is now closed. Unfortunately the water levels in Little Shuswap Lake are too low for safe use of the launch. The boat launch at Mill Park is still open. Much like the national news some stories go on and on with the same subject matter. We find ourselves doing just that! The simple fact of hockey life is that if you don’t have enough beds for a possible 25 out of town players, then it’s almost impossible to put the product on the ice. At this time we are simply 11 beds short. Yes, the annual crisis of billet homes for the Chase HEAT has reached an epic level… much like the soaring temperatures. Elsewhere in the paper is an ad that provides some insight into opening up your home and the myriad of things that come with your willingness to assist YOUR Junior Hockey Team. We like to consider our Organization a transparent operating entity in our Community. If you have heard the rumours from last season, they are at least half true. The off ice habits and behaviours of some of the players… not all…was not well received. In a major effort to remedy that we traded, released and chastised those who were the guilty bad actors and sent them down the road. Many of those gone will surprise the ardent fans, housecleaning was required. The end result was a small core who
truthfully wish to turn things around, and they are convinced that they along with the team staff will accomplish that goal. We are optimistic that the “new crew” will impress the Community on and off the ice This season’s roster will be young, 2 new goalies, 4 new defencemen at least and eight new forwards as well. The recruiting efforts have been immense, and the new faces come from the three western provinces. Major time has been spent checking out that they have quality character. We have no want to go from near championship team to something similar to season long grad party mode. The community, the billet parents, the fans and the sponsors don’t deserve that. Safe guards are in place and action on issues reported will be fast and decisive. The 2018-19 Season will be our 9th campaign for the holy grail of Junior Hockey, the Cyclone Taylor Cup! Getting back to the need for billet homes, we need YOU to help us excel, to have a big brother join your family and a new family member be welcomed to your home. Please consider being a valuable member of the Chase HEAT, it can be a rewarding experience and we really need the support.

The Adams River Salmon Society UPDATE & GOING ONS Darlene Koss – Administrative Coordinator
“Calling the Salmon Home” Every four years is a dominant year for the Sockeye to return to their spawning grounds and 2018 is a dominant year. This year’s Salute to the Sockeye festival will begin on September 28 and will run through till Sunday October 21, with t h e Opening Ceremony taking p l a c e Sunday September 30 at the Tsútswecw Provincial Park (Roderick Haig-Brown) in Lee Creek. The Adams River is calling our Salmon home. So, the Sockeye, Chinook, Coho Salmon will begin the arduous journey upstream to return to their birth place, then spawn and die; and beginning the Life Cycle of the Salmon once again, just as for the past millennia. Communities prepare to celebrate this natural phenomenon, planning parades, community feasts, ceremonial activities and events. Weekly the Wild Salmon Caravan local planning team, invite you to join in creating salmon related crafts at the open workshop table during the Tuesday Music on the Lake concerts in Chase. Kids are welcome, build a salmon banner or poster or sockeye hat, or salmon bracelet or necklace; you decide. Come join in the fun or join The Adams River Salmon Society Wednesday WalkAbouts in the Tsútswecw Provincial Park (Roderick Haig-Brown) at 11 AM or at 1 PM. Salute to the Sockeye planning continues to progress. Arrangements are being made to hold the Park Renaming Ceremony and Festival Opening Ceremony on
September 30th. Contractors to help run the Salute are being coordinated. Watch www.salmonsociety.com for additional contractor proposal requests that will be coming up for Authors, Traffic Control, and Site Maintenance. An Artisan Contractor has been hired to coordinate the sale of local artisan products at the Salute. She can be reached at artisan@ salmonsociety. com. If you are interested in volunte er ing during the Salute please reach out to volunteers@ salmonsociety.com. A Volunteer form can be obtained on the website. Come on in to the Interpretive Cabin. We are open from 10 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am to 3 pm Saturdays and Sundays for the summer months. The life cycle of the Sockeye is well documented on the walls, information is also available on video screens and the children will be further engaged with nature based games on touch sensitive screens. Sign our visitor book and join guests from Italy, France, Germany, the USA and many of the Canadian provinces who have already signed on this season. We have a fine selection of gifts and souvenirs in stock and on order to remember
