BUFFET SPECIAL Dec. 6th(Fri) & 7th(Sat) 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

One day, in the early 90’s, MaryLou Plowe who was the owner/ operator of a hairdressing salon known as “The Londoner”, visited the “Flowers By Jill” store, to talk to the owner, Jill Atkinson. As business owners, naturally, the conversation got around to how to encourage local people to do their Christmas Shopping locally, rather than heading into Kamloops or Salmon Arm. One thing led to another and the idea of having a special shopping night where the stores would stay open late, and each business would go all out to make it into a “Midnight Madness” experience to attract customers, and for them to have some fun while shopping. Jill and Mary-Lou canvassed all

the businesses on main street and came to the conclusion that it would be worth the effort to give it a try. Each store agreed to supply some hot drinks, and special treats to eat. The vendors agreed to dress in appropriate night attire, and to make it into a special night for Christmas Shopping. Each store also had a prize draw that one of their customers would win at the end of the night. The local Fire Department would supervise a bonfire in what is now known as the Pocket Park, and it added a wonderful atmosphere for the event. In order to include the businesses in the Safety Mart shopping Center, the idea of a parade was discussed,

Began.... and ultimately included into the event. The parade started at Safety Mart, and ended at Coburn Street. The parade has become a very important, a n d exciting annual event. CHASE 630 Shuswap Ave | 250-679-8824 westernfinancialgroup.ca Council and staff of the Village of Chase congratulates the hardworking Chase Country Christmas volunteers on the 25th Anniversary of Chase Country C h r i s t m a s celebrations!

Country Band set to perform on Friday Tennessee Walker features three outstanding country music artists; Daylen James from Grovedale, AB (originally f r o m Kamloops), S h a w n a Palmer from Abb otsford, BC, and Tanner Dawson from Chase, BC. These three performers bring high energy and spectacular harmonies to any stage! Whether it’s a simple acoustic show, or accompanied by their amazing band, they will keep you dancing and singing all night long! Tennessee Walker combines that classic country feel with a new outlaw vibe that is sure to have you wanting more. The

group draws on influences such as Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, The Band Perry and legends of country music such as Johnny, Merle, and Patsy Cline, giving them a very well rounded outlook on their original music. The band is an audience favorite here in Chase, as witnessed at their shows this past summer on Canada Day and at CornStock. So swap out your snow boots for cowboy boots and join Tennessee Walker for a great outdoor show following the Chase Country Christmas Parade.

HOW TO MAKE PAPER SNOWFLAKES 2. Fold paper in half diagonally to make a triangle.

1. Start with a SQUARE piece of paper.

4. Fold paper triangle in thirds, overlapping the lefthand pointed corner over the triangle.

3. Fold paper triangle in half so that the pointed corners meet.

5. Overlap the righthand pointed corner over the triangle. (Note: You may need to adjust these folds a little to get the sides to match up, so don’t crease the paper until the folds are just right.)

6. Trim the pointed ends so the paper triangle looks as shown.

7. Cut your folded paper with variations of cutouts. (Tip: The ones with straight lines are easier to make than the ones with curvy lines.) Optional: If using one of our downloadable templates: scale to your paper size, print, and cut out. Staple template to folded paper in areas to be cut out and use craft scissors to cut off uncovered portion and along all solid lines. 8. Unfold it gently. Don’t worry if your snowflake isn’t exact: No two snowflakes are ever alike.

$2 SLICES

RECIPES Homemade Eggnog

Ingredients 6 large egg yolks 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 cup heavy whipping cream 2 cups milk 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg pinch of salt 1/4 tsp vanilla extract ground cinnamon

Instructions Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a medium bowl until light and creamy. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the cream, milk, nutmeg and salt. Stir often until mixture reaches a bare simmer. Add a big spoonful of the hot milk to the egg mixture, whisking vigorously. Repeat, adding a big spoonful at a time, to temper the eggs. Once most of the hot milk has

been added to the eggs, pour the mixture back into the saucepan on the stove. Whisk constantly for just a few minutes, until the mixture is just slightly thickened (or until it reaches about 160 degrees F on a thermometer). It will thicken more as it cools. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour the eggnog into a pitcher or other container and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate until chilled. It will thicken as it cools. If you want a thinner, completely smooth consistency, you can add the entire mixture to a blender with 1 or 2 tablespoons of milk and blend until smooth. Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon, and fresh whipped cream.

Ingredients 3 Tbsp brandy 1-1/4 cups fruitcake mix 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour ½ tsp baking powder ¼ tsp baking soda ¼ tsp salt 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, at room temperature ⅔ cup packed brown sugar 1 large egg, at room temperature ¼ cup sour cream 1 cup icing sugar 1 Tbsp lemon juice

Instructions Preheat oven to 375ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment. Microwave brandy and fruitcake mix until bubbling, about 45 seconds. Let cool completely.

In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer on medium until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix until incorporated. Reduce speed to low and add half the flour mixture, then sour cream, then remaining flour, mixing until combined after each addition. Add fruit mixture and stir to evenly distribute. Drop tablespoons of dough 2 inches apart on to baking sheets. Bake until light golden brown, about 10 to 13 minutes. Cool on wire racks completely. Whisk icing sugar and lemon juice until smooth. Drizzle over cookies and let set 30 minutes.
