The Chase & District Chamber of Commerce would like to acknowledge the Chase Secondary School Band for helping with the Christmas Dinner and Awards Gala. Six band students came to help with the evening, 4 were serving appetizers and 2 worked the coat check. There help was greatly appreciated! The Village U Brew donated a wine basket which tickets were sold for the basket to fundraise for the students so they could go on a Band
trip to Whistler in the spring. We are excited to announce that $425 was collected to give to the students. We have such a giving community and it showed in the support to the Band students.

On December 9th, Chase RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 1 at Chase Creek Bridge. The 40 year old male driver of a Dodge Neon was in the left lane eastbound as he attempted to pass a Jeep Liberty, which was in the right lane. ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF CHASE –
Safe driving tips around Snow Removal Equipment
“Once again, our public works staff as well as local private contractors have been hard at work to make your streets and sidewalks safe. While snow clearing and sweeping usually takes place while the majority of residents are fast asleep, there are occasions where snow clearing must be done during the daytime. Please, please respect the equipment and the operators, and give the snow clearing equipment and operators safe and wide clearance at all times in order that they may do their jobs safely and efficiently! As with anyone, snow clearing operators often cannot see behind their equipment as clearly as one can in a regular vehicle. PLEASE refrain from
driving up immediately behind a snow clearing vehicle as they may back up unexpectedly. Stay back a minimum of 15 meters from all trucks and snow removal equipment at all times. When you need to maneuver around snow clearing equipment, make eye contact with the operator before proceeding. Please use respectful road sense with all users of our roads, including snow removal equipment and other large vehicles, especially at this time of year. Thank you for your cooperation to ensure we are all safe to serve our customers and community in the future! From the Village of Chase AND your local independent operators.”

Me and My Poinsettia
by Carolyn MacDonald Sadly I looked again, she dropped more leaves, She wasn’t surviving, I thought, was she dying for good?
I likened my life as I was reminded by my Poinsettia The plant was raised and nurtured from a seed It was fed well and flourished With red and green leaves.
I received her as a gift, she gave me a lift She was vibrant and fresh, Didn’t have her for long. After a few days, she looked sad, frail and weak. At first glance, I thought I’d throw her out. As I picked off more dead leaves, And dribbled more water on her and put her in the light. I waited to see after a few days If the leaves would come back, red and green
I thought it was the end for her, A voice inside me said ‘no’ Oh my word, tiny new leaves were blooming. Then I realized, I was like that flower, In God’s eyes, I was given new life When I was shrivelling up, He didn’t give up on me, So He’s been plucking the old dried flowers away Making a new each and every day. I realized the growth may be slow, It’s exciting to see me, As I grow.

Pin Chatter:
News from the Bowling Alley submitted by Calyn Buresh, Village Lanes
Hard to believe that another half a season has come and gone so soon! We are officially finished with our leagues until the New Year! The season has been filled with great scores, numerous booze orders, and a whole lot of laughs. It’s inspiring to know that so many of you read this article each week, and look forward to hearing what’s happening here at Village Lanes! Before I get too far ahead of myself, I got myself into some trouble with one of our amazing bowlers this past week, because his crazy high score didn’t make it into the Pin Chatter! So, Heinz Torbohm, congratulations on your house high 368 single! An awesome score, and I know Mama Dorothy will be proud! Way to go! It has been a great season thus far at Village Lanes, and Kelly and I would like
to thank everyone that has supported us since we began our permanent journey in September. Without our league bowlers, tournament bowlers, public bowlers, staff and birthday parties, Chase would be without a bowling centre, and we are so grateful that that’s not the case! Please bring your families down, and see us throughout the holiday season! We will be open from December 26th to December 30th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm daily for public bowling. Wishing each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas, and a great start to 2017! Kelly and I are off to Las Vegas for a little getaway but will be back early in January to see all of you! Thanks again for all of the support, it means the world. Until next time! Cheers!

Sadly & unexpectedly we’ve lost a very special man. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Stella, his brother Wes, sister Vicky, many nieces & nephews, as well as great, and greatgreat, nieces & nephews. Everyone loved him and enjoyed spending time with Uncle Jerry (JJ) because he was always so happy and fun to be around. He was always very light hearted and loved to tease you. Jerry was predeceased by his parents (Rose & Edward), 4 brothers (Wilfred, Harold, Henry & Bud) sister, Pearl and great niece, Shannon. Jerry worked for CP Rail for 35 years until his retirement in 1986. He had a passion for cutting wood and building things and participated in many sports such as curling, golfing, hockey, snomobiling and waterskiing. Curling by far was his main passion in life to play or watch. He won 5 gold medals in the Senior Curling Championships, many victories and trophies in hockey, waterskiing still in his 70’s and just last week was on the ice at the Chase curling club. Not once did he ever say no to someone wanting to go for a ski or tub ride. He cherished the time spent creating many memories with his family/ friends at the Shuswap. A celebration of life will be announced in the New Year and will be hosted by the Chase Curling Club. “You will be forever in our hearts”
