he Chase Medical Clinic is excited to announce that we have been successful in recruiting physicians! Starting January 2020, Dr. Olamipo Bamigboje and Dr. Vik Desai have agreed to join our health care team. They will be sharing what was previously the Drs. Lau practice for 3 days a week. They will continue to provide personalized and comprehensive care to the patients already established in this practice. The physicians and staff look forward

to working with these physicians and ask the community to warmly welcome them. The community and area can help in retention of health care providers by making it a positive place to practice medicine, which in turn encourages providers to stay in Chase. If you do not have a current health care provider you can call the clinic at 250679-1420 to get onto the wait list for new patients. Patients are accepted into the current practices as space allows. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2020!

A Letter to the Community I am now home after suffering a severe stroke and being in the hospital for more than two months. I am glad to be in my home and my community, enjoying social events. My recovery has been outstanding, but I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of family, friends, numerous medical professionals, and so many members of the community of Chase. I have graduated from a wheelchair to a walker in my day-to-day life, and I am now back to enjoying time doing things I love, especially playing cards. I want to thank everyone for the many cards and well wishes including those from the Silver Creek Crib Group, Inter-lakes Bowling Group, the Legion, Creekside Seniors, and

Citizens on Patrol. Your prayers and kind words encouraged and supported me and my family in so many ways. I know a big part of my recovery is due to those thoughts and prayers. You gave me strength and determination to improve; you gave me the will power to apply to my progress. Thanks also to the many doctors and medical professionals, including Dr. Collier, Dr. Calder, Lorraine Lines, and all those on 5-North who assisted in my therapy and recovery. On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank each and every one of you for bringing me back to the life I love. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Ella Duheme

William and Walter

submitted by Breanne Malo, Curator/Manager, Chase & District Museum & Archives The museum is happy to announce that there are two new exhibits ready for viewing! Arranged side by side are the workspaces of two men, both of whom would have had booming businesses in town. Each side with a desk, it looks as if Walter Forest Montgomery, a photographer, and William Miller Sprott, a jeweler, have just stepped out for a moment giving you an opportunity to get a closer look at what they’re working on. Even more intriguing, the desk and its contents on Sprott’s side belonged to the man himself! Their names may not be familiar but both men have a story to tell. Tragic lost loves, cross country travels, their beautiful art, that’s the kind of story you can get wrapped up in. Perhaps the two men were friends even, after all they were only born about eight years apart. Imagine this though, as the town’s jeweler how many engagement and wedding rings do you think William created? How many couples do you think Walter photographed wearing those same rings? Not to mention how many clocks and watches he maintained for the people of Chase, or some of the other items he made and fixed. Besides jewelry and watches William also worked on glasses, keys, and scissors to name a few things. Now Walter, the only professional photographer in town. Think about how many photographs he took in his nearly sixty years in town. Weddings, school functions, town events, and of course portraits. Every single one of those events would have

involved Walter especially before cameras became a commonplace item that a family could own. A significant number of pictures in the museum’s collection are credited to him for this reason. Now that you’ve taken the time to imagine all this be sure to come by the museum and read the whole story yourself. Get a feel for the history, literally. The touching

and investigating of the desks is encouraged. I also encourage anyone who has any information on William Sprott, especially photos of him or his store, to please visit or contact the museum. Don’t forget we’re always interested in looking at photos and artefacts from the area, we might love to have it donated to the museum!

A huge thank you from the Chase Skate Park Society to the Helping Hand and all it's hardworking volunteers. The fundraiser at Chase Country Christmas was a success with many plates of brisket served, and many boxes of cookies sold. These Helping Hands really put their all into volunteering when they take on a cause. More thank yous to A & W, Superstore Kamloops, PharmaChoice Food and Drug in Chase, Save-On-Foods in Salmon Arm, Golden Ears Farm and Oli Martens for donations. Thank you to Eye Candy and Nationwide Appliance, and to Pedal Bros/Pebbles Nook for accommodating us on Friday night. Thank you to Dan Nelson and the staff at Econospan who did so much work to get the generator and truck up town and Brian and Betty Strauch from Springhill for all the mechanical expertise for the set up, including the organizing of vehicles, machines setup and take down. It takes many hands to make an event successful including all the generous donations by so many of the residents and businesses who believe in the skate park amenity for our youth. Come join us Saturday evening December 14 for the Chase Christmas dance with all proceeds going to complete the skate park.

CHASE COUNTRY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR submitted by Scott Koch, Chase Heat

The weekend of December 6th – 8th included a myriad of top rate events at the 25th Annual Chase Country Christmas Celebration. For ardent hockey fans the game on Saturday night at the Art Holding Memorial Arena was one for the ages. The top team in Junior B hockey in the Province paid a visit to our Chaos Castle after a 4 year absence. The Kimberley DYNAMITERS sailing on top of the KIJHL standings were on an 11 game winning run and were close to unstoppable. To let the “cat out of the bag”, the Chase HEAT on a 5 game win streak, stopped the “Kaboom Boys”in their tracks. The action on the ice was the best the local fans have seen in years and not a single sole in the joint wished for this contest to end. At the opening faceoff the puck dropped and both teams went from 0 to 60 and the brakes weren’t tapped once! Rookie Jacob Biensch with his parents in attendance from Saskatchewan, placed the bisquit in the basket on a beauty pass from HEAT leading scorer Breckin Erichuk. Heart rates in old guys were bouncing off the charts and the arena defibrillator was put on standby. Fan noise started to drown out the ten on the dial rock music. In the 2nd stanza the visitors scored, but the noise didn’t stop. Evan Hughes who is known to put the team on his back did just that, scoring a spectacular unassisted shorthanded goal, the score 2-1 Chase. With 20 minutes to go in regulation time, veteran Colton Nikiforuk scored 55 seconds in from Hughes, it’s now 3-1, and the fans are seeing sugar plums dancing in their heads. Uncertainty is the next emotion as Kimberley pops in a counter on the man advantage. However, on the powerplay the too hot to touch Hayden Wiebe scores from Trevor Kennedy and Caleb Biensch. Kimberley makes it very interesting by scoring with just under 4 minutes left, but the local hot product held on for a well earned 4-3 win. The defibrillator is put away and the fans wish for more hockey like what they just witnessed. While the beast of burden Evan Hughes was the star, this was a complete team effort including Vince

Bennedetto stopping 36 of 39 dynamite shots with a little help from all his friends. A Sunday afternoon KIJHL game in Sicamous versus the EAGLES was the next task facing the revved up Chase skaters. In the 1st period Breckin Erichuk scored a beauty with assistance from Gavin Mattey. In the 2nd Erichuk scored a nicer goal for his second counter aided by Kennedy and Corson Nordick. In the 3rd Sicamous scored late, but Nikiforuk hit the gas petal and got that one back from Brandon Gremaud and Hughes. With 5 seconds left Nikiforuk put icing on the win with an empty net goal from Wiebe and Caleb Biensch. A nice 4-1 division win with Erichuk and Nikiforuk doing the scoring and Dylan Barton coming a whisker away from a shutout, stopping 26 of 27 shots he faced. The HEAT remain in 2nd spot in the Doug Birks Division, 3 points back of the Revelstoke GRIZZLIES. Overall in the 20 team KIJHL they are in 4th spot behind the DYNAMITERS, GRIZZLIES and Kelowna CHIEFS. Their winning streak now is at 7 games. Next weekend they hit the highway and play in Osoyoos and Princeton. Tuesday night the 17th they host the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS at AHMA.

Just prior to their Christmas break they welcome the Kelowna CHIEFS on Saturday the 21st. That one is guaranteed to be one to take the kids to as a special gift prior to Christmas. Don’t miss any of “YOUR” team’s upcoming games, they are a tremendous cure for anything ailing you! Heat Beat: A couple of very fine young men were released from the roster in the past week. Garrick Ward from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan headed home after struggling through injuries and finding his A game. Xander Denis from Kamloops was released to make room on the roster for an 8th defenceman. Arriving this week is Danton L’Heureux from Meadow Lake Saskatchewan. As a young defenceman he was let go for veteran returnees, by the Junior A Red Lake MINERS in Northern Ontario. His presence will assist the team’s solid back end. If you wear an ugly Christmas sweater to the WRANGLER’S night you will receive a free ticket to the next game… your chance to be a fashion statement and win!
