Valentine's in Chase by Cavelle Layes
Valentine’s Day is sneaking up quickly and whether you decide to celebrate over the weekend or on the holiday itself there is plenty to do close to Chase for big budgets and for small. For those who would like a romantic night without the huge bill, try something new. Make your own drive-in theatre by bundling lots of blankets and pillows into the back of your truck bed, wear some snuggly pajamas and settle back with a movie on your Ipad or laptop. Movie rentals are available at Chase Groceteria, find something romantic, or something that will have you both laughing. Pack a picnic, or pick one up from Craig’s Bakery in advance, and for an extra warming treat stop by Miller’s Cabin for one of their signature cozy drinks. Be sure to pick a good location for your drive-in theatre because you won’t want to forget about taking a few minutes to star gaze. Many more ideas on page 9... With all the wonderful history of Chase, wouldn’t it be great for our tourists and locals to come and relax on the wonderful patio next to this fabulous 1910 heritage building and enjoy maybe an ice cream cone or a coffee? Might feel like we’ve gone back to the good old days… $239,900

If something happens at 3 a.m. and assistance is needed right away, a volunteer who has been trained to help will be there right away if it is urgent, Nakazawa said, or the following morning if it isn’t. CVS is currently seeking volunteers from the community, hoping that some come forward and help ensure the community continues to receive the support when its residents need it most. While no experience is required, volunteers must be able to pass an intensive security check conducted by Chase RCMP. Nakazawa explained, because their volunteers often are in contact with privileged information a thorough check must be done first. Some training would also
be provided to new volunteers. Nakazawa said it is also important that volunteers are compassionate. Volunteers would be asked to cover 24-hour shifts. While the schedule is flexible and can work around those with full-time jobs, CVS would like to see some volunteers who could take six shifts a month, lessening the load on others and ensuring the services are there. “If you never had to deal with us you probably don’t know it, but there is huge amounts of value in what we do,” Nakazawa said. If you are interested in volunteering with Chase Victim Services, would like to make a donation, or would just like more information on it is they do, please call Nakazawa

“Man Cave” pilot program up & running by Cavelle Layes
A new pilot program aimed at local men will be kicking off this week, and plans to offer several months of outdoor and recreational activities as well as a healthy dialog. The Man Cave will be hosting its first meeting Thursday, Feb 9, at 5 p.m. in the Adams Lake Health Centre. Jeromy Biron, one of the three program founders, said he hopes the program can offer something to the area that hasn’t really been done before. He noted there has been healthrelated groups, but from his experience, many participants had wanted to take part in something that offered variety of activities outside of workshops and lectures. While this program will have some important lectures, there will be no workshops, and more fun and healthy activities than anything else. The Man Cave is open to any Chase male 14-years-old and up, who would like to focus on healthier living in a number of ways. Biron said there are many outings planned for the program, including hockey games and bowling nights, and a big camping trip is scheduled for the spring. “It isn’t always about learning,” Biron said. “It is just a bunch of guys getting together and having fun without drugs or alcohol.” Biron said, while The Man Cave will mostly be hosting sporting nights and other activities and outings that will appeal to men, there will also be special guests brought in to discuss health related topics that are
important them as well. Some of these include heart attacks, prostate cancer, communication skills, relationship building and parenting support among others. “It is just a group of men who get together and there is a lot of different types off men out t h e r e ,” Biron said, in regards to why the program is i mp o r t a nt . “There are many who, once they sober up they don’t have a group they belong to any more. There is no group of men, or people, that they can just be t h e ms e lve s a r o u n d without judgement and without expectations.” The Man Cave will be an environment where everyone is welcome, a place to come relax and just have some guy time. There will be supper served for program participants at every meeting, and door prizes will be given away. Those who come to eight out of 10 meetings will also be entered to win a main draw prize. Despite this being the first runthrough for the program, Biron said they have already received positive feedback and a lot of public interest. The initial pilot program for the Man Cave will end in about June, however, if the group shows popularity it will be restarted again after the summer. Continued on page 6...

Letters to the
Editor More Cart Talk
I read some of the comments about our “pilot project” and golf carts and came to a few realizations. A lot of people keep asking “why Chase?” Well, having a community that is quite compact, yet has most of the facilities needed is a requirement. You can get from one end of Chase to the other in about 4 km. Also, you can get almost anywhere in Chase without having to use a road with a speed limit over 50km/hr. Having a golf course would also be a requirement as it guarantees there are a few golf carts around to be configured as “street carts” Advantages of a “street cart” is not only an environmental plus, but very inexpensive to run. Electric Vehicle online forum did a power test to see exactly what it cost to run and installed a meter. It worked out to be about $1.25 worth of electricity to go 100 miles.... Think about that for a second. If you are retired or live and work in Chase, the cost to run around Chase would be pennies. Is this not something to at least give a try and see if it would work? Some residents here in Chase were claiming how unsafe they are as they only have seat belts. Motorcycles have no seat belts, air bags, crumple zones, ABS, side impact protection, yet are allowed to go on highways. Russ Rowe Chase BC

Tech Talk: Browser Pop-ups By Stefan Schielke, inTechrity
I’ve been receiving calls from clients concerned about browser alert pop-ups. These pop-ups can be disconcerting because the messages state your data has been compromised or your hard drive has problems. Pop-ups provide a toll-free number stating you must call to resolve the issue and are often accompanied with an audible beeping or voice reading the message. Usually, when these messages appear, directly closing the pop-up or even the browser is not possible. Pop-ups can easily be closed by ending your browser process in your Task Manager. The Windows Task Manager enables you to monitor the applications, processes, and services currently running on your PC. 1. Open your Task Manager either by hitting ‘Ctrl + Shift + Esc’ on your keyboard or ‘Ctrl + Alt + Delete’ and select the Task Manager from the menu items. 2. Click on the browser (chrome.exe/ Google Chrome, firefox.exe/Firefox, iexplore.exe/Microsoft Edge) and click the End Process button to close the browser and the pop-up. Scan your computer before doing anything else as it could be infected with either Malware or browser hijacking software. A lot of redirects are the result of users clicking on what appear to be legitimate ads or news stories. For example, “Trump

The program almost always contains Malware. If you receive persistent website redirects or pop-ups even after scanning your computer, your computer could require further cleaning or your router may be infected with DNS Poisoning. If you are unsure, call us to have your network professionally scanned and cleaned. Ending the browser session (and popups) will also close the other open tabs. To eliminate losing your session, add these browser extensions to retain and easily reopen your closed sessions: 1. In Chrome search for ‘Session Buddy Chrome’. In Firefox, ‘Session Manager Firefox’. 2. Click the link and then on the button adding the extension to the browser. You can easily reopen one, all, or as many tabs from your closed session. Take care not to reopen the website that caused you the pop-up earlier as this will reintroduce the pop-up and above process all over again. Do you have a topic that you would like to know more about? Ask us on Facebook or send an email. Safe browsing. 250-679-7744, stefan@inTechrity.ca www.inTechrity.ca

Variety of Ideas for February 14th by Cavelle Layes
Want something that won’t hurt your bank account but is also indoors? Have a friendly bowling competition at the Village Lanes Fun Centre for just $6.50 per adult which includes shoe and lane rental. Don’t forget to order up a spread of their delicious bar-style food with a twist. If you are not ready to end the competition after your final frame, just move on into the games room and try your luck at pool. The best thing about this date-night idea is you can leave the kids at home or bring them along for some family fun. Do you want to have a date night, but don’t really want to spend the night out? Chase has everything you need to keep you entertained and well-fed all from the comforts of home. Plan ahead and stop by one of Chase’s lightly used, second hand stores and pick out some board games. People’s Drug Mart and Tru Hardware also have some for sale. Another option is buying some dice from the dollar store and printing off some Yahtzee sheets at home, for a cheap and easy choice. Once you have all your games ready, call up Pete’s Pizza for some perfect game-night grub for take-out. With a menu that includes pasta appies and of course, pizza, you can try a little bit of everything and begin your date night from home. Many romantic foods and recipes can be created from the grocery items at Safety Mart Foods. See the word search on page 11 for some fun, romantic food items. CANOE’S ZACHARY FOURNIER STARS IN PRINCETON By Scott Koch Saturday the 4th the HEAT met the POSSE in Princeton. Bus legs and overall lack of detail allowed Princeton to score in the 1st, Noah Brusse doing the honour. In the 2nd the HEAT came on strong. Pesky Kolten Moore from Fournier scored short handed to even the score. Then Farstad from Fournier and Black popped the puck in the net. Fidanza from Keith and Bourne got a powerplay goal to make it 3-1. In the 3rd Fournier on the powerplay from Palaga and Farstad increased the lead. Then Posse player Chad Kimmie got the locals stirred up before Palaga fired a rink length short handed empty netter to seal the deal. Bruyere stopped 34 of 35 in backstopping the Chasers. Fournier managed 1 goal, 2 assists and 4 minutes in penalties to lead the charge. So with 60 points to this point, the HEAT remain in 1st place in their Division with 5 regular season games left. Next weekend is a busy one, with a Win over the WRANGLERS on Friday the 10th,the Heat can clinch 1st place in the Doug Birks Division. then the locals bus to the Stoke by Scott Koch, Chase Heat
When Zachary Fournier picks it up a notch the 3rd year power forward makes a big difference. He was just that when the HEAT travelled snowy roads to meet up with the POSSE from Princeton. However, we must tell the tale first of the HEAT hosting the Revelstoke GRIZZLIES at the Art Holding Memorial Arena on Friday the 3rd. The Stoke got their only goal of this contest off the stick of flamboyant Jon Vandermolen who skated down the ice unmolested to beat Nic Bruyere in the net. Embarrassed the Chase crew woke up and took over, scoring a pair in each of the 2nd and 3rd periods. In the 2nd Josh Bourne scored a powerplay goal from Dayton Keith and Michael Fidanza and then Fidanza got an extra man marker from Bourne and Keith. That trio combined for both goals. In the 3rd Spencer Farstad from Kaden Black and Mason Palaga made it 3-1. With 20 seconds left Pat Brady scored an end to end shot empty netter from Palaga and Bruyere. End of 60 minutes 4-1 and the fans left happy! THE
