News from the Bowling Alley submitted by Calyn Collins
What a weekend! Chase bowlers have been nothing short of amazing this February! Starting with the Club 55 Travel Tournament this past Friday in Chase! We had two teams representing Village Lanes and one of the two bowled well enough to earn themselves a 2nd place finish! Congratulations to Donna and John Mosimann, Jeanne and Dale Seaman, and Melody Koivisto on their performance! The following day, we took 11 local bowlers to Kamloops for the B Intercity Championships, and they did not disappoint! The Chase contingent placed 1st in the Mixed Team event and 3rd overall! Tanya West On top of the team accomplishments, individual awards went to Chase bowler, Tanya West for her 272 game, and to Heinz Torbohm on his 1093 four game block! It was an absolute pleasure to coach such a great group. We would like to wish a final Good Luck to Jim and Bonnie Askeland, Susan Waters and Cory Sampson as they are venturing off to Provincials this weekend in Surrey! And to our Youth Bowlers who are off to the Zone Finals in Vernon this Sunday! Speaking of youth bowlers, a special shout out to Gerald Frech for bowling his first Gerald Frech ever 200 game last week; a 212! Way to go Gerald! Until next time!

Under the area of Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability, Council directed Administration to begin the review of the Village’s Official Community Plan, complete a Tourism Strategy, proceed with the Asset Management project, and conduct a water, sewer and solid waste rates review. To date, the OCP review is underway, the Tourism Strategy has been developed, the Asset Management project is proceeding, and a rates review of water, sewer, and solid waste was conducted in November of 2019. Under the area of promoting health, Council adopted the Active Transportation plan, applied for funding to build a new foot bridge across the creek in Willson Park and conducted sewer line scoping in several areas of the Village. To date, we are still awaiting an answer on the funding for the foot bridge. Under the area of promoting safety, Council directed Administration to conduct a road condition assessment, to develop a community wildfire protection plan, and to set up an Emergency Operations Centre location that could be operated in the event of an emergency with full technical support even in the event of a power outage. To date, the road condition assessment was conducted on a number of roads in Chase, with more roads potentially being assessed in 2020. The EOC has been serviced and equipment

In 2019 Council met with Shuswap Trail Alliance members at an annual Roundtable meeting, Council met with Neskonlith Indian Band Chief and Council to discuss issues of mutual interest, and early in January 2020 met with the leadership of the Adams Lake Indian Band to discuss possible joint projects. Council will be inviting the Little Shuswap Lake Band leadership to meet as soon as schedules permit. Council continues to promote relationships with local area community leaders and members, with the medical community, the seniors community, and supports the actions of youth focussed groups, local service clubs and other community groups that contribute to the well-being of Chase and area. Council also continues to lobby through various organizations for services and funding for the betterment of the community. During the 2019 Union of BC Municipalities convention, Council met with various provincial government ministers to lobby for funding for Highway Rescue Services, to ensure the Ministry of Highways is aware of the needs of the community for access and egress when the highways upgrades projects are being developed, and to advocate for the timber supply opportunities for the Adams Lake Lumber Mill which supports the Village of Chase in many ways. Council plans to develop a three year strategic plan for 2020/2021/2022 which will be shared with the community once it is complete.

Chase Hamper Society News The Chase and District Hamper Society would like to thank everyone in Chase and surrounding areas for their enthusiastic and ongoing support for our local Food Bank, and in particular, our recent 2019 Christmas Hamper program! We are overwhelmed with the generosity shown by the many individuals who turned out in record numbers with their donations at the Christmas Holiday Train, (what an awesome day), individuals and groups who collected non-perishable food items at their planned events, and those who donate to our accounts at both RBC and the Credit Union. There was over $1200 given at various events, and over 1300 pounds of food! That is incredible! So many people have come up with so many ways to help out, and of course, there are those volunteers who give up many hours to help put it all together! This Christmas, while packing up and
distributing 85 Christmas Hampers, we coordinated efforts with the North Shuswap and the Neskonlith Band, both of whom also gave out Christmas Hampers to residents in their areas, to make sure no one was missed. During the rest of the year, everyone in those areas, plus Pritchard, Chase Creek, Turtle Valley, Adams Lake, Little Shuswap and outlying areas, are able to access the Chase Food Bank for emergency food hampers. Our Food Bank is open the first Monday (1-3pm), and third Monday (5-7pm) of each month, throughout the year, and available to anyone needing some help to put a nutritious meal on the table. With the support of our caring communities, and a network of Food Share programs available to us, we have been fortunate to be able to accomplish this.

sizzling shinny! Evan “The Beast” Hughes is back on the ice, as is Colton Nikiforuk and Trevor Kennedy. Tyson Lampreau is skating at practice but time will tell on his return to game play and Marino Bordin is nursing an upper body injury. Two unsettling hurts are lower body injuries to “Captain Crunch” Cam Watson and Vince “Benny” Bennedetto. Turning to the past weekends game reports, what stands out are the stellar returns from injuries of Nikiforuk and Kennedy. On Friday night in Osoyoos Kennedy popped in 3 for a hat trick, while Nikiforuk scored twice and assisted on two of Kennedy’s goals. Saturday night he scored two more for a 6 point weekend, the rest was good for that fine fella! So, Friday versus the COYOTES in the south Okanagan “Nico” scores the opener from Rhys Lepine and Dylan Barton, then Osoyoos gets a pair before Nikiforuk on the powerplay ties the game from Gavin Mattey and Hughes. In the 2nd period it is the Kennedy show, his 1st a shorthanded effort from Brandon Gremaud and Nikiforuk. His 2nd popped in with help from Corson Nordick and Nikiforuk, after 2 it is 4-2. In the 3rd Kennedy completes the hat trick with aid from Gremaud, with Hughes adding icing from Evan Vinterlik for a 6-2 win. Barton denied 18 of 20 to backstop his buddies to success. The three stars, Kennedy, Nikiforuk and Barton. Saturday night the 8th of February in Summerland versus the STEAM featured low scoring and a lot of nailbiting. After 20 minutes it was 1-0 for the hosts. After 40 minutes it was 2-1 visitors with the HEAT scoring a pair. Team leading point getter Breckin Erichuk from Hayden Wiebe and Caleb Biensch. Hot hands Nikiforuk got the second counter from Erichuk and Corson Nordick. In the 3rd Summerland tied the contest at 2-2, before hot hands Nikiforuk scored with 19 seconds left. Barton replaced Vince Benedetto in goal 3:42 into the game due to an injury. “Barts” allowed 1 goal on a 30 save effort for a stellar weekend of puck stopping. The HEAT remain in the thick of competition currently sitting 7th in KIJHL combined standings, 2nd in the Doug Birks Division. Guaranteed to be in the playoffs, the only guarantee for any of the playoff teams is the first round, after that its anyone’s game. Breckin Erichuk sits 6th overall in League scoring with Nikiforuk, Mattey, Wiebe and Hughes keeping him company in the top 50. Mark February 19th on your calendar for a very special event coming to our town thanks to a Chase Lions Club and Chase HEAT partnership.
