Submitted by Jane Herman and Brock Endean
ot-for-profit and service organizations are integral to shaping the fabric of our community. They significantly contribute to our social, economic, and health wellbeing, enriching the lives of residents and enhancing the vitality of Chase. To better understand the current status and pulse of not-for-profit and service organizations, the informal community collaboration initiative has recently created a survey. Crafted during our recent community meeting, this survey aims to gather insights that will inform decision-making and future collaboration efforts. By sharing your perspectives, you'll help us better understand the current landscape of volunteerism and service delivery in Chase, identify ongoing needs, and outline future goals. Obituary
Ivy Mary Schultz
Born December 27, 1929 on Parmachene/Lake Helen Nation near Nipigon, Ontario, Ivy passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 in the Shuswap Lake Hospital, Salmon Arm, BC, with loving family holding her hands. Survived by her daughters Marie (Ken) Smith, BettyAnn (Bill) McDonald, TerryMae (Harold) Sinclair, Sharon Kneen, Geraldine (Robert) Taron and Jennifer (Leander) Goertzen, four sisters, one bother-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, daughter Beatrice, son-in-law John Kneen, three sisters, two brothers, five sister-in-laws and ten brotherin-laws. Ivy grew up by beautiful Lake Helen with her parents and seven sisters. While working as a cook’s helper in a logging camp she met Raymond. They married in historic St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church, Red Rock Ontario in 1949. They started their married life on the Schultz family farm in Saskatchewan. Moving to Clinton BC and raising seven girls, Ivy worked outside the home at various jobs including the Post Office, butcher shop, and hardware store. She and Raymond also owned and operated a General Store in Paradise Valley, Alberta. Ivy spent many hours volunteering and enjoyed playing ball, swimming, curling and golfing. She was very good, or just lucky, at winning whether it was cards, bingo, scratch tickets and even the casino. She will be remembered for her strong Catholic faith, love of family, her quick wit, sense of humour, generous smile and heartfelt hugs. Ivy was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her. Our hearts are broken but we trust Mom is in her heavenly home surrounded by many loved ones, filled with joy and at peace. The family is very appreciative of the staff and friends at her retirement home, Piccadilly Terrace, where she spent the last 12 years of her life. Mass of Christian burial held on February 17th at 1:00 p.m., Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Chase, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Michael Colmorgen
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing into the arms of Jesus, my beloved Michi on January 20, 2024 at Royal inland Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer . He was born on June 22, 1965 in Winnipeg Manitoba the youngest of three children. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Helene, his children Jorgea, Sam and Ben Colmorgen(they were his world), his sister, Monika Colmorgen, brother Achim(Misty), three nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Carsten and Annalise Helene and his twin, three month old sons, Clayton and Colton. Anyone who was privileged to know Michi loved him. His legacy to us is to “ Never give up” Even in the face of great adversity to persevere with a positive energy-to embrace life with joy-to be ever grateful for what you have. His journey to sobriety, rekindled his faith in God, and gave him the strength and courage to face whatever challenges he had, and to do it with a smile, or a joke, putting a smile and other peoples faces. He was Big not only in stature but in everything he did work or play. He worked for 15 years as chef and manager of the Keg in Port Coquitlam, he became an addictions counsellor at Clearmind in Langley, for several years after his own treatment, and in his last years, he was a renovation specialist, adding his special touch to many projects. He was meticulous in his work, and a perfectionist. He was my inspiration with his positive attitude, and his view of life seeing the beauty and the good in the people and things all around him. Listening to his music was his therapy. Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Cornell Barnard, Drs. Amigo, Martos and Mohammed at the BC cancer agency and the many doctors and nurses who treated himwith such compassion and care over the last few years. He asked that we celebrate his life on his birthdate June 22, 2024 to be held at our home at 4061 Santa Rd., Scotch Creek He is greatly missed and will be loved forever
