Churchill’s Corner by Wally Churchill
I met some wonderful people from Belgium at Craig’s Bakery. This is they said, “We met Wally on Nov 6, 2015. It was exactly 98 years today that the Canadian Soldiers in World War I captured the Village of Passchendaele in one of the worst ever battles and one where the Canadians fought so bravely. That battle site is just one hour from our home, now peaceful thanks to their efforts”. I sang Danny Boy for them. I am going to have coffee in Craig’s more often! Such interesting people! I went to the Council Meeting in regard to rezoning for a storage facility. I spoke up and said it would be good for a tax base and wouldn’t smell like some other projects. It is important to have an opinion. Gets me in trouble sometimes. I guess I am an environmentalist, comes from my mom’s side... she was a Native
Indian, from Chu Chua. Amazing how terms change. My daughter says she is not Indian, she is First Nations, Mom went to Kamloops Indian School. Very confusing.... Now our Prime Minister has both kinds of Indians working for him, smart dude. One thing that doesn’t change, that is love. Dogs know when you love them. I stop and talk to dogs. My dogs name is Bear, he is a German Shepard, he loves everyone. I usually remember dogs names but sometimes forget the owners. At my age I know jokes and many songs and dogs. If I forget your name please forgive jokes, songs, and dogs. These things don’t change and you can always count on them. Speaking of Remembering, The COP Coffee House is on Friday November the 13th. See you there!

Pin Chatter: News from the Bowling Alley by Cayln Buresh, Village Lanes
The big story of the week is our Youth Bowlers and the amazing performance they put on this past weekend at the first YBC Travel Tournament of the season! Capri Valley Lanes in Kelowna hosted the first youth tournament of the year, and low and behold, Chase youth bowlers walked away with the gold!! T r a v e l tournaments are a fun trip away where youth bowlers compete by bowling three games, having a lunch put on by the host centre, and a brief awards c e r e m o n y. 12 teams from across the Okanagan competed in the Pins Over Average format tournament, and we ended up on top! Our youth team bowled an astounding 300+ pins over their combined team average, something that is NOT easy to do. Congratulations to Alex Greenaway, Jordan Fletcher, Mike Davis,
Matt Arnouse, Tristan Jules, and coach, Ali Maki. It was nice to see this group of young guys focus and play to win. They were told going into the last game that they were tied for second place, and all of them said that they wouldn’t settle for second, and that they wanted first. In the last game of the tournament the boys were +179 pins over their team average in the single game. It’s always nice to come home with a medal, and hopefully this will push this group of boys to focus just a little bit extra in their league throughout the season. Leagues are a great way to come out and spend time with your friends, but it’s nice to see a small group of young bowlers eager and wanting to better themselves in the sport. Congratulations again guys! Very proud proprietor!! Until next week, cheers everyone!
CSS Student of the Month -
October
The Students of the Month for October are Tyson Jones and Emily Zeiger. Emily Zeiger is this month’s Junior Student of the Month. As a grade 8 student, Emily has done an excellent job adjusting to the expectations that come with being a high school student here at CSS. To date, she has been doing very well in her classes and her attendance is excellent. What is perhaps most impressive about Emily is how she chooses to use her class time. Emily does a great job of using her class time to get work done! Her ability to stay focused and on-task in class allows her to continually get her assignments handed in on the assigned due date. As a grade 8 student, Emily is well on her way to a bright academic career here at C.S.S. Well done Emily! Tyson Jones is CSS’s Senior Student of
the Month for October. Tyson is off to a strong start in his Grade 11 year. Like Emily, Tyson is doing well in his classes and has an excellent attendance record. What sets Tyson apart is his constant willingness to go out of his way to lend a helping hand. From holding a door open, to carrying materials for a teacher who could really use a hand, to sticking around at the end of class to pick up after others, Tyson’s considerate nature has been very much appreciated around the school. Tyson’s thoughtfulness and willingness to continually go out of his way to help others are admirable traits that are sure to serve him well in the future. Well done Tyson!

“November” comes from the Latin novem meaning “nine”. The Icelandic word is ‘gor-month’ or ‘slaughtering-month’. Anglo saxons called it WindMonath. Citrine and topaz are birthstones. Studies have found evidence suggesting that November-born children are more likely to become overachievers in their fields (Examples include: writers/philosophers Dostoevsky, Albert Camus, Voltaire and Mark Twain; Winston Churchill; and legendary baseball player Joe DiMaggio. Movember is an annual event involving growing moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer. Friday, November 13th, the COP Coffee House starts up again for the season.
