he Strawberry Tea was a huge success this year and Breanne and the Board of Directors would like to thank everyone who came and enjoyed the event! We had nearly 50 attendees throughout the afternoon! Of course, the event would not be possible without all our volunteer help for setting up, serving, and taking down. A big thank you to those who were able to help! Appropriate Use of the Emergency Room Submitted by Chase Medical Clinic

When you or a loved one are sick or injured, it can be difficult to know exactly what to do. If you are trying to decide if a trip to the Emergency Room is the best choice, call your physician’s office. There is also a list of alternatives to the Emergency Room listed below. In the event of a true emergency, dial 911 to activate your local Emergency Medical System. When to go to the Emergency Room The Emergency Room is the best place to be when a serious or life-threatening condition presents. While common sense and good judgment should always be used, the following list are symptoms that should absolutely NOT be ignored. If you or someone you love experiences any of the following, please seek emergency medical care immediately: • • • • • • •

Chest Pain Severe shortness of breath Numbness, tingling, weakness (particularly on one side of the body) Traumatic injury with risk of fracture, or internal bleeding Serious burns Poisoning or overdose Loss of consciousness

Alternatives to the Emergency Room Between Chase, Kamloops and Salmon Arm, Emergency Rooms are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While that can seem convenient, taking a few minutes to consider other options in a non-emergency situation can save time and money. Walk-in clinics are usually open on weekends and evenings to meet the medical needs of clients: • • •

I just wanted to mention a wonderful luncheon that took place in the Community Hall this past Wednesday and will continue Wednesday of each month for all residents by the Chase Food Bank together with a Take-Out area. Their first one under the name of “InClusive Cafe” from 11 am to 1:30 pm, was absolutely amazing… with hot turkey vegetable soup and a croissant filled with lots of turkey and cranberry sauce; followed by chocolate gateau

and ice tea. This is now set up to happen once a month, the next one on July 20th with Donations Welcomed. My husband and I thoroughly recommend it and wonder what will be on the menu next month! We would also like to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard to make it such a success. Chris and Fred Einarson

With a proud history of over 30 years the Willson Park Horseshoe Pitches are a part of the neighbourhood history, having played an important role in local family fun, while allowing friends to get together at a local park and participate in Team games, supporting and encouraging a healthy outdoor activity that is open to all ages. A small number of neighbours and interested groups submitted a letter of request to the Village of Chase, asking for permission to revitalize the existing 30 year old Horseshoe Pitches in Willson Park. After receiving the ok and support of the Village of Chase, meetings were held on site and strategies were discussed about the removal of old materials, wood debris and soil, ensuring these materials would be transported away. In concert with Works Dept. Leadhand Guy Spenser, we developed a working plan, a timeline (backwards from Canada Day) and started looking for volunteers for the multiple work party dates and times. As volunteers we approached local area Businesses for materials and supplies:, the gracious donations made by Canoe Forest Products - Federated CO-OP Canoe Sawmill - Aaron Canon; by the Interfor - Adams Lake Division - Cathy Dibbon, Kelly Esslinger; by Econo Span Chase - Dan Nelson; by Chase Home Hardware Mark Brose, Wendy Lewis,

Ben Robinson; by Spooner Sand & Gravel Company Craig Spooner. Volunteer helpers: Perry Kahl, Mike Stefiuk, Mark Sambray, Dave Smith for pushing the project through to be rebuilt for Canada Day; thank you Sue Murray for your hours of staining and painting. We also wish to say thank you to the Village of Chase Public Works Department for volunteering during lunch and thank you to Peter Van hoof, Kyle Bruce, Chris, John for helping take apart the 8 old decaying individual horseshoe pitches and removing those materials. Thank you also to the Chase Legion Br. # 107 for the storage, workspace and support. As volunteers we are proud to say we are "Ready for the Willson Park Canada Day event" because of the Community support and donations for the horseshoe pitch rebuild project that were received, so we invite Chase to the Willson Park Neighbourhood BBQ and reopening of the Horseshoe Pitches, Friday July 1st... A Big Big Thank you to the Chase & District Festival Society for the $1000 for the Canada Day Willson Park Neighbourhood BBQ food costs (all purchased locally). Come visit the rebuilt horseshoe pitches in Willson Park, try them out, go for a walk, enjoy the fresh air and nature, but please be safe and respectful. Happy Canada Day Chase.
