Metal-detector enthusiast found mini urn
James, a Chase resident was out with his metal detector last year when a young man approached him with a request to search for a tiny metal “urn”. The young man explained that he had lost the memento, which contained a small portion of his grandpa’s ashes, while roughhousing with friends on the grass.
James searched with 3 days with his metal detector and he found it! Unable to find the young man, James has been carrying around these remains for a year now. Contact the Sunflower to claim the item!

TEN questions With....
Over the next few weeks, we are going to get to know the members of the Chase Volunteer Department. We’ll start with the Fire Chief,
Brian Lauzon.
Q • How many years have you been on the fire department, and how did you get involved? A • I’ve been on the Chase Fire Department for 21 years. I first started in the Anglemont and District Fire Department. A friend of mine suggested that I join because of my experience. It had been a number of years since I have been a member of a fire department. Q • How did you end up in Chase? A • I ended up in Chase after I graduated from Chase Secondary. I got a local job as a cook and the rest is history. Q • When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up? A • When I was a kid I wanted to be a firefighter. Q • Where can you usually be found? A • I can be usually found at the fire hall, if not there I will be at J.J. Mechanical on Aylmer Road, where I work as an auto service technician. Q • How would you describe the people on the fire department? A • My fellow firefighters are awesome. Greatest bunch of passionate firefighters I have the privilege to work with. Q • What is the best job you’ve ever had? And the worst one?
A • The best job I’ve had is being a firefighter. The worst job was a paving stone layer. Q • Can you give us a fire/safety tip? A • Smoke detectors save lives. Check your battery twice a year. Q • Do you encounter misconceptions about the fire department? A • The biggest misconception I encounter is “I can’t be a firefighter because ‘I’m too small’, or ‘I’m not strong enough’. Not true, come out and check out what we do, you might be surprised. Q • What do you do for fun? A • For fun I take my family to the great outdoors, boating, kayaking, camping or 3-D bow shoots. If I’m not doing that I’m at the fire hall. Q • What’s your favourite way to stay cool in the summer heat? A • I stay cool in the summer by floating on a tube or just douse my self with a fire hose :) Q • What’s the best thing about being on the Chase Fire Department? A • The “brotherhood”, the feeling of great appreciation. Helping the members in my community when they need help the most.

BOOK REVIEW BACK NEXT WEEK!
With Heartfelt Thanks To the citizens of Chase, I express my deepest gratitude. When I moved here in October 2008 I was a broken soul. I had been hospitalized and almost died ten times the previous year when my Doctor said, “You must move from Central Okanagan for better quality air and a stress free life.” God brought me here. A few people in particular I want to thank. Rick Berrigan, now our Mayor. When I dawdled too long up town something on the stove started to smoke from my home. It was a sight to see a stranger, Rick, literally leap over two tall chain link fences to come to my rescue. I know...unbelievable! He handled the situation and soon I had a smoke free home. All the people along the Chase downtown were a tremendous source of comfort and
2 of the 4 door with murals created by students at Haldane encouragement. Naramada Video, her husband who hooked up my TV, computer and cable systems. All staff of Peoples, our Pharmacists, and our Post Office staff. I got hugs from everyone. When they asked how I was doing, they really wanted to know. Chase citizens brought me back to life. As well, on Saturday June 6th I fell and broke my ankle. A wonderful female Chase resident held me in her arms until the Ambulance came. I don`t know who you are, but you were a huge comfort to me. Thank you so much. And, I will add that I miss the business ``Out to Lunch!`` I say to Shelley and Lesley, thank you so much for making the best burgers ever, anywhere. It was like getting food hug, and I hugely miss you and your business. With heartfelt thanks to you all, Randi Done

Thief Stealing Village Plants
by Blair Acton
Soccer fans Armin, Lucas and Oliviae are touring western Canada before heading home. Armin was a visiting finance professor at York University in Toronto. He is from Austria, his wife is from Belgium and they live in France. While in the Shuswap they were able to enjoy some canoeing
and eating local wild sockeye salmon. While at the hostel, Lucas was able to meet another soccer fan, his same age, from Spain to play fooseball with. Their next stop is to do some camping in Glacier and Yoho national Park. Blair runs Squilax General Store & Hostel.

You have probably noticed the fantastic job Public Works employees do on beautifying the Village with planting garden beds and hanging baskets. Recently some plants were stolen from the garden beds and someone even managed to steal a hanging basket. We suspect these plants, paid for by taxpayer’s money, are now residing in a privately owned garden. The hanging basket in particular would quite obviously not be purchased from a regular garden centre. The RCMP have been informed and we are asking for assistance from the public to report any suspicious activity to either the RCMP (250-679-3221) or the Village office (250679-3238).

Jim Prescott of Chase, BC passed away at Gemstone Care Centre on June 28, 2015. He was born October 16, 1932 in Roy, Montana to Jerry and Mary (Siroky) Prescott. His family moved to the Gallatin Valley and Belgrade Montana in 1936 where they were involved in the farming and ranching business, raising registered Hereford cattle. Jim married Joanne Delano in 1953 in Bozeman, Montana. In 1964 Jim and his family moved to Cowley, Alberta and in the foothills continued raising Hereford cattle, and selling bulls across southern Alberta. In 1968 he and his family carried on this operation after moving to BC and purchasing the China Valley ranch as well as a home and acreage on the VLA and Chase Creek. After selling their farm and ranch they moved into Chase. Jim built and remodeled many homes in the area including theirs and a 4-plex which they rented out. He also built furniture as a hobby, including bedroom suites for family. He and Joanne managed an apartment block in Kamloops for four years. After heart surgery, they moved back to their home in Chase, where he could spend more time with his true passion of fishing. He was an ardent fly fisherman, spending the winter months tying flies and testing them on the waters in the area as many days of the week as the weather and his health allowed. He enjoyed nothing more than passing this tradition and knowledge on to his family and friends, enjoying every trip he made when they could accompany him. Jim looked forward to his yearly camping trip to the Kootenays with his sons and grandsons, planning and shopping for weeks ahead. For years he returned to Roy, Montana to take his Dad on their yearly fishing/camping trip. He was also able to enjoy many camping trips locally with family, where he could filet their catch and have a nice fish fry at the end of the day. Jim was a proud supporter of his grandkids various sports events, seldom missing a baseball, soccer, hockey game or dance recital. Jim is survived by his wife Joanne of nearly 62 years, sons Mike, Jerry (Velda), Tom, daughter Colleen (Ted) Patterson, daughter-in-law Karen Prescott, ten grandchildren, six great granddaughters and one brother Milton (Jackie) Prescott of Glendive, Montana. He was preceded in death by his oldest son Jim Prescott, grandson Jaye Prescott, his parents, two sisters Emma Hoffman and Mary Jane Baker, brother Robert Prescott, and step brother Joe Soushek. area The family wishes to thank Dr Wynne, staff and care Lost April 21/15 Female givers Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre for their grey-brownat (short summer haircut now) compassionate and loving care given Jim and his family Lhasa Apso white paws wearing pale blue the pastcollar. two rhinestone She years. has tattoo in her ear and In respect missing a lower front of Jim’s wishes there will be no funeral tooth. We would like to thank all the individuals who have gone out of their way to assist us and have shared with us our feelings of shock, disappointment, and loss. Our deep gratitude goes out to the community for their continued solidarity. We would like to reach out to any individuals who may have knowledge of the crime to assist us in identifying the perpetrator(s) and to help prevent future crimes from being committed in our
