NATURAL FOODS 729 Shuswap Ave Chase 250-679-3189
The early 1900s was a difficult era to live in. The mid-Western US was in depression and people had no work. Immigrants from far and wide were desperate trying to find work to feed their families. In a effort to land a job, many of these immigrants went as far as changing their names to sound English, as it was said that people with English sounding names had a better chance at being hired. Local historian David Lepsoe will be taking you on a different historic tour this year - the Finn/Currie Flats tour, currently Hillside Avenue in Chase. How did Finn Flats became Currie Flats - the name that most people know the area by? Milton Currie was a compassionate man, who felt for the elderly destitute people in Chase. He bought quite a bit of land in Finn Flats and hauled houses down where he let these unfortunate people stay for free. That’s how Finn Flats became known as Currie Flats. Milton Currie moved from a house on the lake to
what became Currieville about 1929. David’s tour will start at 1 pm, at the Town Map Board on the corner of Shuswap Avenue and Coburn Street with a short history of the area, followed by a 45-min stroll through Finn Flats. The tour will end at Chase Museum for more storytelling and for the popular Museum’s Annual Strawberry Tea. David Lepsoe has organized historic tours since 2004. The first tour was a candlelight tour at Chase Country Christmas. Love for history and the community has inspired him to pass this knowledge to locals and tourists who want to know more about the past of this beautiful village. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at Chase Museum, at the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce or on Facebook @EliteEventsBC. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to Chase Museum.

Many Braved Rain for Show & Shine submitted by Bev Iglesias
The Chase Show and Shine was a success despite two torrential downpours. With 30 cars in attendance, the public viewed some rare collector vehicles including a 1932 Hyboy, 1952 Hudson Hornet, 1934 International, 1958 Chev Impala, 1958 Ford Fairlane 500, 1969 Chevelle, 1965 Plymouth Valiant, 1956 Chev Pickup, 1904 olds replica, 1967 Camero, 1981 Puma and the list went on…The pride of ownership, hard work and maintenance showed and was much appreciated by the public. Barbecued burgers, hot dogs and fresh baking with coffee and tea was enjoyed by many who tucked under the tents between the raindrops. The organizers thank Kyle
Harris, A&W who graciously sponsored the burgers, drinks and the necessities to make this show possible, PharmaChoice for providing fixings for the burgers and special thanks to Brenda & Dave Turner for your support behind the scenes. With over 10 volunteers who came to set up, serve and take down, we thank you for your time! Winner of the Peoples choice award - 2008/14 Honda Trike owned by locals Brian & Betty Strauch, with a close second going to a 1937 Ford Pickup owned by local Dave McClelland. Thank you Chase for the amazing support. Proceeds will be donated to charitable organizations.
