Kindergarten Fair 2023
submitted by Jolene Barkman
Chase Public Health had a very successful Safari Kindergarten Fair this year with 22 kids coming to the Chase Community Hall on Thursday June 8, 2023. Upon arrival the kids were greeted, registered and each received a Kfair pamphlet and a goody bag to start them on their Safari adventure.
Each child went to the vendors and learned various health and safety topics. They learned about their body from our own Brianne Howell Chase ER RN, teeth from Kamloops Lift the Lip Program Coordinator Michael Leis. The kids and adults enjoyed playing with the Play-doh as part of learning about their teeth. They got to learn about sun safety from Nichelle King, Amellia King and Catherine
Tomma from Little Shuswap Lake Band. Diane Tarry and Sue Murray were busy crafting with the kids making Safari hats and other various creations. We had Guy Ramsay, Leila Lewis and Michael Grondin from Child Find do finger prints, pictures and stranger awareness for the youngsters. The Chase Haldane PAC was well represented by Nakia Hill, Danielle Funk, Jennifer Deleeuw and Emily Toews. Kamloops Audiology was done by Courtney Watson and Jeffrey Ng and were very busy the whole day.
Chelaine Woodcock with Child & Youth Mental Health had a fun game for the kids to talk about their feelings and the kids really enjoyed it. One of the biggest hits of the day was with Olivia from WildSafeBC, she had tons of animal
skulls and a bear skin rug to let the kids touch and feel. The Chase & Adam Lakes Fire Department was another huge hit and the kids enjoyed testing out the heat radar gun on their loved ones. Samantha Sampson, Maria Beaurain, Owen Cormack, Linden Evenson were a few of the fire department members that came and played with the kids.
Downstairs Public Health did the kids immunizations by Donna Barclay RN, and Heather Savage RN. They were also entertained by Bridgette Barkman’s puppet shows and Torin Le Jeune’s games. Once kids were done with immunizations they got to play various games with both girls as well as Jodi Gibson. Some of the games were the Fish pond, Bean Bag Toss and hockey. Each child received tons of prizes and we all had a wonderful lunch provided by Pete’s Pizza, cookies from Craig’s Bakery and a big piece of cake. The kids were happy and full by the time the left the hall.
We all would love to say a big THANK YOU to the many donations from various business in Chase. Without your donations the Kindergarten Fair would not be such a success. These businesses include; Aylmer Storage, Chase Legion, Chase Lions Club, Chase Rotary, Chase & District Health Foundation, Little Shuswap Physio, Chase Dollar Store, Chase Creekside Center, Interior Savings Credit Union, Chase Optometry, Chase Dentist, Silver Linings Store, Village U-Brew, Carlin and Son’s Trucking Ltd, Mattey Bro’s Ltd, Integra Tire, Village Fitness and Tanning, Pharmachoice, Shuswap Bargain Hunters, Maskwa Den, and the Chase Library. We really appreciate all your efforts and commitment to our future young learners.

Chase Community Services Society - Chase Seniors Transit
submitted by Dave Smith
A Chase fixture now seen regularly around town, the Chase Community Services Society - Chase Seniors Transit is celebrating 4 years. This BC Registered Non Profit Society and Federally Registered Charity operates with a Volunteer Board of Elected Directors, who meet monthly in Chase. The purpose and goal of the Chase Seniors Transit has been to help local Seniors and Chase Residents with Disabilities or Mobility issues, who require transportation assistance in order to get to Medical and Health & Wellness appointments, through the services of the Chase Seniors Transit, Bus or Van.
The Chase Seniors Transit began with volunteers being able to purchase a 7 person / wheelchair accessible bus (manufactured in BC) for the first year and a half. As the word spread so did more needs become identified and the Volunteer Board went out and secured funds for a second vehicle, a Chrysler 6 person passenger van.
During 2022 the 2 vehicles have travelled over 43,000 km with 14 drivers, who are qualified, insured and have had Driving and Criminal Record Checks and are local residents. Over 375 trips in 2022 and over 540 trips in 3 years.
Close to 800 individual clients utilized the CCSS Seniors Transit Bus Program (Bus or Van).
Operating costs of over $31, 000 were incurred during
2022. With door to door pickup and delivery back home requests, phoning to arrange a pick up time as soon as possible really helps, the more days before your appointment the better. Reservation times must be entered into the weekly computer / dispatch schedule in order for the Chase Seniors Transit Bus or Van pick up time to be reserved. Ph: 778 - 586 - 6565 to register or for more information.
The Chase Community Services Society - Chase Seniors Transit is available to Chase Seniors, local Chase residents who are handicapped or a disabled person, or a person with mobility issues, a person who requires transportation help to get to Medical and Health & Wellness related appointments.
Please Be Aware the local Chase Seniors Transit does not replace Taxi Service.
As interest and awareness increases, so does the identified need. The Board of Directors have been talking about the need for a 3rd vehicle to help meet our local Transportation needs.
What are your thoughts and opinions??
So if you are interested in helping, volunteers are always welcome.
Please call 778 - 586 - 6565 for more information or to register.
All donations are greatly and gladly accepted. Tax Receipts available.
WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR OUR SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY
Please continue to donate!

Is your property Fire Smart?
Did you know that even surrounded by a raging wildfire, communities can be saved by being Fire Smart?
Our newly appointed Local Fire Smart Representative, Shawn McCarthy of the Chase Fire/Rescue Department and local resident Dan Stevens, Fire Smart Specialist, are hosting a public Fire Smart education session on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the upper level of the Chase Fire/Rescue Hall at 810 Okanagan Avenue, Chase, BC.
This is an important session! We urge as many people to attend as possible to learn how to make your property Fire Smart. We can save our houses during a wildfire if we are all Fire Smart!
We ask that you RSVP in advance of the session so we know how many people will be attending. Please email your intent to attend to reception@chasebc.ca or call 250.679.3238 and ask for Kim.
It’s Back! Lobsterfest!
By Carolyn Parks Mintz, Author & Journalist
After several years of limited socializing and few special events, Chase Fire Rescue personnel are pleased to once again offer an evening get-together and a delicious meal featuring fresh lobster ordered in from the Maritimes, on Saturday, June 24th at the Chase Community Centre. Doors open at 5:00 pm with dinner starting at 6:00 pm. A variety of tasty salads and desserts will complete the $40 meal, with a cash bar available as well. For those who aren’t keen on crustacean seafood, hamburgers will also be offered with all the above trimmings for $25. A raffle, door prizes, and the ever-popular Silent Auction will also be part of the night-out—sure to be enjoyed by all.
Fundraising by Chase Fire Rescue finances such initiatives as the purchase and replacement of specialized equipment, donations to local charities, support of segments of the community in need, as well as specific training.
A current undertaking of the department consists of plans for water rescue, the equipment required, as well as the training necessary. Research is ongoing with regard to the provision of this much-needed service for our lakeside community and area.
Tickets for the upcoming finger-lickin’-good event are available until Saturday, June 17. For further information or tickets, contact Ali at 250.319.4034.
