Mountain bikers in the Shuswap! We are talking about the John Evdokimoff Bike Park in White Lake.

For those looking to do some downhill biking or get the kids out on the dirt track, this is a fantastic technical skills park, pump track, burn trail, tabletops, jumps, and free ride trail for mountain bikers.

Bonus, it’s gets evening sun, has great views of the lake, boasts an awesome playground, sports court(with equipment), and is the trail head to one of our favourite hikes around- the White Lake Lookout.

My kids and I love this bike

park. It’s also a great place to host a kids birthday party!

There is a covered wooden shelter with tables and all the amenities.

The bike park was designed by legendary mountain bike guru, Jay Hoots, for CSRD Parks and built by local volunteers.

John Evdokimoff was a CSRD parks employee who built several parks in the Shuswap and was a strong community leader. He spearheaded the original mountain bike skills park that was at this same sight. This park commentates him and there is a nice plaque for him at the entry honouring him.

Classifieds Obituary Peter Eric Wicklund

July 4, 1930 – June 8, 2022 On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, Mr. Peter Eric Wicklund of Oliver passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Centre at the age of 91 years.

He was predeceased by his parents John & Hilda Wicklund; sister Lea Kelly and son Michael in 1996.

Peter will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife, Barbara of 67 years; daughter, Kelsey (Jim); grandson, Jordon (Temam); granddaughter, Amanda (Brandon); five great-grandchildren; sister, Donna as we well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Peter worked as a millwright, a sawyer and logger over the years. He was also a valued member of the Chase Volunteer Fire Department. A counsellor for the Village of Chase as well as a Scoutmaster.

In his free time, Peter enjoyed golfing at Fairview Mtn. in Oliver and Sunshore in Chase, curling at the Oliver Curling Club and the Chase Curling Club, bowling, camping and hunting.

Thanks go out to the wonderful staff at Orchard Haven in Keremeos, and Dr. Van De Vosse who cared for him for the 8 1/2 months he was there. Also, to the caring staff at Sunnybank in Oliver, who cared for him the last 2 weeks of his life as well as to Dr. Smallwood, who was his doctor in Oliver for many years.

A family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Chase Cemetery.

Donations are gratefully accepted for the Oliver Hospital Thrift Store Expansion: c/o The South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, 550 Carmi Avenue, Penticton, BC V2A 9Z9.

Celebration of Life Dale Robinson

Please join us in sharing memories of our loved one on July 2, 2022. Since his passing in February this year he has been sadly missed and we would love nothing more than to gather with family and friends and share our fondest memories. Gathering will be held at 546 Aylmer Road at 2:00pm. Please note we will dedicate that time to a Eulogy, but if you are unable to be there at 2:00, then please drop by at any time during the day to share in the celebration with us. Please bring your lawn chair and guitars as we look forward to some sing-a-longs.

We will also be holding a Celebration of Life for Grandpa in AB on August long weekend at Leddy Lake if you can not attend the BC Celebration.

Celebration of Life Blanca Rothenbacher

It is with sadness in their hearts that the Rothenbacher Family share the news that On July 12, 2021, Blanca passed away quietly and peacefully at the Overlander Residential Care home in Kamloops with her two sons at her side (Claudio and Herbert) and daughter-in-law Carolyn.

Leaving behind her only daughter Ingrid and son-in-law Peter (from Munich, Germany ) as well, her son Hasso and wife/daughter-in-law Terri from Warroad, Minnesota, US Grandchildren Collin, Dayna, Marcus, Trevor and their families.

The Rothenbacher Family (Ingrid, Claudio, Hasso, Herbert) are able to gather for a Celebration of Life for Blanca at the residence of Herbert located at 1672 Chase Falkland Road, Chase on Saturday June 25th at 1 pm. Claudio will be putting on his Chief’s hat and helping to roast a pig , all the trimmings will be served. So those that knew her please come and share your stories with the family and help celebrate Blanca’s Life.

June 14, 2022 - Highlights submitted by Village of Chase

Council held a Regular meeting on June 14, 2022 at the Community Hall and via Zoom. One person participated virtually, 4 people participated in person.

to create a mural on the East wall of 722 Shuswap Avenue as part of their summer recreation programming for school aged children.

The Mayor announced that June 19, 2022 has been proclaimed as the Longest Day of Smiles in the Village of Chase in support of Operation Smile Canada a global medical charity providing free, life-changing surgeries and medical care to children born with cleft conditions around the world.

A resolution was passed by Council for the Village to apply for funding to conduct an extreme heat mapping, assessment, and planning project to identify the vulnerable population in Chase and plan for assistance when an extreme heat event occurs.

Council heard from Councillor Shelley Witzky of the Adams Lake Indian Band regarding the Secwepemc Landmark Project (Sculpture) in Chase. The location for the sculpture has been chosen and blessed by the Indigenous elders. Being so close to the lake a survey is required to determine the exact high water mark of the lake so that erosion mitigation measures if necessary for the base of the sculpture can be incorporated into the work.

The Chase Environmental Action Group provided a presentation to Council outlining what the group does, the need for action from every level of government and society, highlighting some of the actions the Village has already taken and outlining various actions the Village can consider taking to help with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately climate change.

Council passed a resolution to donate $500 to the 2022 Dry Grad Committee.

Council also passed a resolution saying it is in favour of the Chase and Area Young Learners Society proposal

The Shuswap Rowing and Paddling Club invited Council members to attend their Shuswap Dragon Boat Cancer Survivor Carnation Ceremony on June 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Marine Peach Park in Salmon Arm. A letter from Federal MPs Stubbs, Kurek and Gourde regarding economic development in rural communities was received as information.

Council approved various requests from the Chase and District Festival Society for no parking, road closures, park usage, electricity, and Community Hall washrooms for both Canada Day and Lakeside Music Series events in July and August 2022.

With no further business, the Council meeting concluded at 4:54 p.m.
