Love on the Line

And touching of a different kind Of hearts and hopes and minds

Bridged by invisible lines Overcome by whispers in the night

They met out in cyberspace High tech dates Words flowed across the miles Caution turned to welcome smiles

Drawn warmly to each other Imperceptibly, inexorably Like moths to light and sea to shore Remembering, wanting more and more

Much talk and easy laughter Secrets simply shared

Time and space separate them But just for now

Counting days, wishing them away Missing, happy too Soon to dance in garden sunshine They’d moved t’ward each other all their lives

Summer Suggestions submitted by Mercedes Settle

Summertime. Those few precious days, and seemingly endless two months which are wedged between months of studying. The first week or two is all about recovering from the strains that exams would place on students, however, no matter how old you are, there is still one question that lingers in our minds: How should we spend our time? During school months, it can be easy to fill up your time with extracurriculars and other hobbies. There are many exciting classes for aspiring artists, band classes, sports teams, and there will even be a mystery teacher joining CSS, who will teach a leadership class. So why not engage in those things during the summer time? It may be more difficult, having to arrange your own ride and all, but it is certainly doable. For those interested in such activities, there are workshops at 4 Cats Art Studio, and KISSM (Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music) runs from July 10thJuly 28th. You may even want to keep an eye out for local guitar teachers in Chase and the surrounding area. These are all great for those of us who are into art, but if pottery classes aren’t your thing, don’t give up hope! Even if you are a little late to join the local sports teams, you can always call your friends and encourage them to shoot hoops with you in the abandoned school parking lot.

It would finally give us an excuse to work on those “summer bodies” we may have been casually procrastinating on. Hobbies aside, we are all a part of this community, and for the younger generations, whether attending TRU or Haldane, this is a call to arms! With the busy days of school aside, we no longer have to follow the established rules in place. We shouldn’t just be waking up at 8’oclock because we will be late for some class that society encourages us to attend. We should go there because we strive to better ourselves. Once those busy months are out of the way, it is especially important to find our own driven purpose. Summer is the one time that we young folk have utter control over our destinies. So don’t we owe it to ourselves to fill our hours with things we enjoy? Don’t we owe it to ourselves to fulfill our goals? If you want a job, then apply for it. If you have spare time to fill, visit the museum, learn history and submerge your brain in knowledge; or volunteer in the community. I couldn’t possibly suggest all the possible ways to fill hours of the next few months, but unless hiding away in a dark bedroom, playing videogames is your passion, you may want to challenge yourself to go outdoors often. My advice, experiment and follow where your passions take you this summer, because

if there is one affliction which harms us all, it is procrastinating and missing out on your own life.

Annual Strawberry Tea and other museum news

PLEASE JOIN US

by Chase & District Museum & Archives

The Chase Museum is hosting its annual Strawberry Tea this Saturday June 24 beginning at 2 pm. Tickets are only $7 and available at the door. FMI 250679-8847 The strawberry tea has been held by the Museum as one of their main fundraisers for more than a decade. The home made cake is drenched with fresh strawberries all topped with a generous dollop of freshly whipped c r e a m . E n d l e s s cups of tea or coffee is served to you in proper china cups. This old fashioned Tea is something to dress for in your proper “tea” attire ...or just come as you are. The Tea will be held no matter the weather and you will have the choice of enjoying it on our lovely outdoor deck or in the air conditioned comfort of the museum’s main gallery. Of course you can pick up your tickets for our 50-50 draw at the Tea as well. During the past few months the staff has been working hard to complete the Museum’s summer exhibit. Earlier this year the Museum has been gifted a WWI uniform which belonged to Carl Frederickson who lived and worked in Notch Hill at the time of his enlistment. Come and learn about Carl’s life before during and after his military service. In conjunction with the Carl Frederickson exhibit the

100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge exhibit examines the influence of this particular battle and why the Canadian troops succeeded when so many had failed. You may have noticed something going on in the front of the Museum grounds. Stay tuned for announcements as this project moves forward. We hope to create a lasting legacy that will make Chase proud.

I’m addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop whenever I want. I told my doctor that I broke my arm in two places. He told me to stop going to those places. What do you get when you cross a stream and a brook? Wet feet. What do you get if you cross a chicken with a cement mixer? A brick layer!

Sudoku The objective is to fill a 9x9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9. A cell is the smallest block in the game. A row , column and region consists of 9 cells and the whole game consists of 81 cells.

1/4 c. greek yogurt 1 egg First get the griddle heated on medium heat. Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together. Add in the egg, milk and yogurt and whisk until well blended. Drop onto buttered griddle. I recommend serving the pancakes with butter, peanut butter, fresh berries and a dollop of greek yogurt! Sometimes I mix in hemp seeds or fruit into the batter itself.
