"STAY HOME unless absolutely necessary"

submitted by Chase Medical Clinic Team: Dr. Barnard, Dr. Redel, Dr. Robinson, Dr. Bamigboje, Dr. Desai, Keltin NP, and clinic staff

ou will have heard the directive from our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, to selfisolate and practice social distancing. The time to act is now. Our province is in a state of emergency. What we do today will impact the health of British Columbians in the weeks to come. STAY HOME unless absolutely necessary. No dinner parties. No shopping. No group sports, not even outside. Instead, have coffee with a friend online. Go for a walk (but keep 6 ft. away from other walkers). Take up a new hobby or craft. Keep 6 feet away from everyone at all times. That’s about the width of a car or two length of two arms stretched out. Call your loved ones and tell them to do the same. Remind young people in your life that they can get sick from this virus. More importantly, they can be carriers and cause a lot of harm to parents, grandparents, and other loved ones. Be vigilant with hand washing. We intend to stay open and provide care for our patients. We are moving many appointments to virtual video conferencing using the platform Doxy.me; and we are

also implementing tele-health. When you and extensive and more vigorous cleaning have a booked appointment you can log standards through out the day. on at https://doxy.me/drcornelbarnard (or We can do this, but we can’t wait one the name of your doctor all one word), more hour or one more day. Let’s save lives, click on "get me started for free". Click "I together. am a patient". Enter your name when prompted, and you will be cued to the virtual waiting room. If you already have an appointment booked now we will call you to set this up if appropriate. For the patients My mind says "yes!" needing to come into the but the body is saying "NO". office we are taking extra pre c aut i on s w i t h distancing,

Hamper Society In Need of Donations submitted by Chase Hamper Society

The Chase Food Bank, run by the Chase Hamper Society, is in need of donations as we deal with the fallout of the current Covid-19 Pandemic. We usually have access to extra food supplies from the Kamloops Food Bank through their Food Recovery Program, which they share with smaller Food Banks in the area. However, with many stores completely selling out of meat and other grocery items, Kamloops is also short of supplies! We appreciate any and all donations. If you donate cash to the Chase Hamper Society, at either the Credit Union or the Royal Bank, a Tax Donation receipt will be given to you. Non-perishable food items can be donated at either Safety Mart or Pharmachoice (formerly Shuswap Grocery). All cash and food donated will be used by the Chase Food Bank only. The Food Bank is in place to help those

who need a hand up to put a nutritious meal on their table. We serve an area from Pritchard to Sorrento, and the North Shuswap. At this time of temporary layoffs, business closures, and shortened working days, we are already seeing an increase in need. Everyone is welcome. Our client’s information and circumstances remain confidential. If you, or someone you know, could benefit by accessing our services, please call us at 250-682-6155. The Rotary Food Drive which normally takes place in April, and is a major contributor to the Chase Food Bank has been cancelled for this Spring. We will be relying more than ever, on the generosity of Chase and surrounding communities to keep food on our shelves, and in the Food Hampers we give out!

Real Estate Through It All We are seeing some difficult times ahead for many people and businesses. Social distancing, closing of non-essential storefronts, and selfisolation to combat the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, are taking a toll on all of us as we put our lives on hold to wait it out! Thankfully, we have the internet! We can bank online, we can shop online, and even carry on business online!

keep us all safe! My marketing team uses Instagram, Kijiji, and Facebook platforms in addition to Realtor.ca and MLS, so your property will have maximum exposure throughout BC and parts of Alberta. As a result, I have an ongoing list of buyers looking for specific types of properties in the area.

If you are thinking of making a move in the coming weeks or months, you don’t have to put your plans on hold. I am lucky to work with a technology forward thinking Realty Brokerage, with all the tools in place to help you remotely, and

I would be happy to work with you to make your move a reality! Please contact me anytime and we can put your plans into action! If you are not a techsavvy, internet type, or even if you are, you can still

contact me the old-fashioned way by telephone at 778-2201822. Chase is a wonderful little Village to live in, and in keeping with the generosity that is so abundant in our town, especially in times such as this, I will be donating to the local Food Bank the sum of $150 for each new listing deal, and each buying deal, that completes on or before September 30, 2020. Help me make this a BIG donation!

Juliet Brown passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Sadly missed by her sons, Dan of Prince George, BC and Tom (Catherine) of Dublin, California, USA and her daughter Marjorie (Allan) of Chilliwack, BC, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex, and all of her relatives of her generation. Julie came to the Chase area as a school teacher and taught in a one room school at Duck Range in the early 1950’s. She met and married Alex, and they started their married life and family on Bill and June Charlton’s ranch in Duck Range. Alex and Julie moved to Chase and lived there for almost 60 years. During this time, Julie enjoyed being involved with the Chase Lady Lions, United Church and Library. Julie spent her last few years in Langley, BC being close to her daughter. Julie had a strong will and quiet inner strength. She may have been small in stature but she could make her opinion known to those close to her. May she now rest in peace. A family gathering is planned for a later date.

Update from the Village of Chase regarding Covid-19 Viral Pandemic submitted by Village of Chase

Everyone is now aware of the seriousness of this viral pandemic. All Village facilities are closed to the public until further notice including the Village office and the Public Works offices. The Village staff are still providing services including water, sewer and garbage collection. Our office staff are available by phone (250.679.3238) or email (chase@chasebc.ca) to answer questions and provide information. We are allowing once again payments to be made over the phone with a credit card for fire permits, dog tags, utility invoices and other general services. You will notice that in addition to the recreation facilities being closed, we have closed the playgrounds, the wharf and the skatepark. It is in the interest of public safety to restrict usage of these facilities in order to ensure that everyone maintains the physical distancing rule of 2 meters apart (6 feet). Please do not gather in groups to have coffee, play cards, or for any other reason. At this time, it is very important that

we reduce the transmission of this virus by staying home if at all possible, washing our hands thoroughly and regularly, and sneezing and coughing into a tissue and discarding the tissue right away. Please be respectful of others and yourself by maintaining a minimum of 6 feet (2 meters) of physical distancing. The virus is known to easily spread through close contact with others, that is why everyone is being asked to respect the 6 foot rule, and to maintain good hygiene. And please say a special thank you when you can to our essential services workers including the staff at the local grocery stores, pharmacies, medical clinics and other businesses that are staying open to serve us, safely. We are all in this together - we can reduce the transmission of this virus by all heeding the public health warnings and by respecting each other. Chase has a reputation for being very community minded - let us keep that reputation strong in these trying times by keeping ourselves, our families and each other as safe as possible."

SOLID WASTE SERVICES AT ECO-DEPOTS AND TRANSFER STATIONS TEMPORARILY LIMITING ACCEPTED MATERIALS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC Press Release

In our continued efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 while continuing essential solid waste services, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District will temporarily ONLY be accepting bagged household garbage and recycling at all Eco-Depots and Transfer Stations. In order to reduce the number of people visiting disposal facilities we are asking residents to only bring in garbage generated from inside your home (kitchen, bathroom, etc.) and ensure that it is bagged and tied closed. Please only bring in recycling from essential items such as paper, cardboard, and containers coming from the grocery stores or pharmacy. Customers are encouraged to limit their trips to an Eco-Depot or Transfer Station and limit the time they spend on site. By pre-sorting recycling you will be able to quickly deposit material and limit interaction with attendants. Please do not bring the following waste/ recyclable materials to your local EcoDepot or Transfer Station: • No construction or renovation waste • No yard waste • No batteries • No used oil • No tires

• No electronics and small appliances • No paint & other household hazardous waste • No scrap metal • No propane tanks • No appliances • No mattresses & furniture • No clothing donations “This is not the time to load up your truck from a home renovation project or spring cleaning. We saw a large increase in customers over the weekend that seemed to be doing just that. Please hold onto these items until we return to normal operations,” said Ken Gillis, TNRD Chair. It is important that customers observe social distancing while on site. Access to the site may be limited depending on customer volume. Please be patient as we put these measures in place to keep all our residents, staff and contractors safe. The TNRD is committed to keep solid waste facilities operational as a critical service in the TNRD. Free Disposal Days and Household Hazardous Waste Round-Ups have been postponed until further notice. These events typical take place in April and May and the TNRD will determine new dates at a future time.

closer, the intensity heightened in the Division 1 action. Players put in extra to win the puck battle, or get the shot on net, and the physicality increases. “Playoff hockey can bring out the best and worst of players, it’s a special moment to be in,” he says. The six-foot-one, 200 pound defenceman closed out his collegiate career with a respectable season. He nearly reached 100 career points. He went into the season with personal goals to achieve, which included improving his defensive game. That goal resulted in the best plus/minus in his career at plus-seven. Okino improved all-round as a player. “My shot is a bit harder and more accurate, hockey-sense has evolved,” he says. “I believe any of that comes with practice, and four years of that will help. As a person I’ve matured, gained experiences, made mistakes and tried to learn from them. Also, living in -40 winters will add a few layers of character.” Four years of college hockey was great for Okino. It allowed him to keep playing hockey and earn a degree in information technology. Once he obtains his degree, he will move back to Richmond after seven years. His plan is to seek employment in IT, but also had interest in an officiating career. He also developed life-long friendships and reflects knowing how lucky he was every day to be there. One of his memorable experiences with the Jimmies was playing in two outdoor games in 2019 and 2020. The most recent was against their rivals Minot State. “There was a ton of snow which made it difficult to play, but added to the experience,” he says. “The event, Hockey Day in North Dakota, has been hosted by our campus. Both years we got to play outdoors right at school, in front of fellow students and family.” Okino went to Jamestown, North Dakota following three seasons (2013-16) with the Heat. It was the first time being away from home. Okino says the KIJHL helped prepare him for living on his own. “I think this was the best preparation, because nothing prepares you for it,” he says. “On the hockey spectrum, the number of games we played and how much we practiced (five times a week) definitely prepared me for the college level.”
