Annual Legion Telethon Event submitted

Chase Legion Branch # 107 - Variety Children’s Telethon Team is so proud of Chase. $4,190 was raised at the event on Sat Feb. 26th and donated to the BC Variety Children’s Telethon (including the money from the pulled pork lunch).

Once again the ever amazing Big Rig Louis McIvor, kept the afternoon fun filled, with his humour, personality, as the Master of Ceremonies his delivery kept the smiles rolling and the Auction just a Rockin. Obituary Mary Schulting March 23, 1931 - February 5, 2022 Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Feb. 5, 2022 at the age of 90.

She is survived by her four children, fourteen grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

In 1954, Mary, her husband and newborn daughter moved to Canada from the Netherlands. They settled in Winnipeg and, in 1972, moved to Kelowna. Twelve years ago, she joined her daughter in Chase Creek and fulfilled her dream of living on a hobby farm.

Mom was an incredible award-winning gardener. She turned the bush surrounding her house into a stunning flower garden that continued to expand until her passing. She was known for her canary and finch aviaries, her snappy dressing and her tremendous smile and good nature. She loved the Chase community, especially Sharen and the Friday morning ladies at the hair studio, Jeremy and crew at Integra, Ellen and staff at PharmaChoice, all the women at Safety Mart and her new friends, Mike and Ray, Keith and Cindy, and Brandan, Mom had a spark that was infectious. She was always moving, always planning a new project and always ready to offer a cup of coffee and conversation. She will be missed.

Obituary Johnny Dick BILLY Johnny Dick BILLY, age 90, of Chase, BC passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Johnny was born September 6, 1931 in Lillooet, BC. He is survived by his wife Ethel, his son, Audie Billy, daughter, Brenda Billy, granddaughter Alisha Billy, great granddaughter Elianna Copping, great grandsons, Johnathan Billy and Alexander Copping, his brother Nelson Billy as well as many friends.

Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Katie and Casimir Billy, his grandparents, Mary Ann Kilma and Casvpyen7 Billy, his siblings, Mary Jane Billy, Casper Billy, Charlie Billy, Cyprian Billy, Florence Michel, Charlotte Williams, Theophile Dick Billy and Margaret Clara Billy.

A funeral service for Johnny will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Schoening Funeral Chapel, Kamloops, British Columbia.

Johnny will be laid to rest on Thursday March 10 at 11:00am in Adams Lake Cemetery, Chase, British Columbia.

Shuswap Coffee House to be Re-staged near Salmon Arm!

At this unusual time of various forms of bad news, Wildwood Productions and Gleneden Hall are pleased to announce that, after a 40-year hiatus, the popular Coffee House evenings—entertainment events that ran for ten years during the 1970’s and early 1980’s—will once again be happening at the Hall, which is located at 5151 49th Street NW, just west of Salmon Arm, running off TransCanada Highway opposite Pierre’s Point Road.

So, what is a “Coffee House?” The Oxford Canadian Dictionary defines it as a place serving coffee and refreshments, as well as (more significantly) a form of live performance presented cabaret style. And that’s what will take place at the Gleneden Hall on March 19, April 16, and May 21. The show will be Open Mic format, with talented local singers and instrumentalists stepping up to the

Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Ingredients 1 head of cauliflower 2 large eggs 1/4 cup grated parmesan 1/4 cup grated mozzarella 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp oregano 1/4 tsp garlic powder Instructions Grate cauliflower into rice consistency using either your food processor or a box grater.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spread cauliflower onto a parchmentlined baking sheet into as flat of a layer as possible. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cauliflower begins to brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees F. Spoon cauliflower into a cheesecloth and squeeze out as much moisture as possible.

In a large bowl, stir to combine cauliflower and all remaining ingredients.

Shape dough into a pizza round on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, carefully flipping the pizza crust halfway through cooking*.

Top pizza crust with your favorite sauces and toppings, then return to the oven until all melty and delicious, about 7 minutes.

Council heard from Ashton Sweetnam, Executive Director of the Chase and Area Young Learners Association who brought forward concerns relating to the availability of indoor community space during periods of poor outdoor air quality.

Council received an update on the Whistle Cessation Project. Due to significant costs associated with requirements by CP Rail to eliminate pedestrian trespass over the tracks in various areas between Pine Street and Memorial Park, and the potential of other whistles being added by CP Rail if pedestrians continue to cross the tracks at various locations, Council determined that to achieve whistle cessation at both Pine Street and Aylmer Road crossings will be far too costly for the taxpayers of Chase. A large amount of time and money has already gone into determining whether whistles can be stopped, and Council is of the opinion that no more tax funds should be spent on this issue.

Council heard from Aylmer Road Storage who spoke to the need for storage in Chase and how to proceed with future requests based on an amendment to Zoning Bylaw No. 887.2020.

Council agreed to meet on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 4:00pm to discuss Vulnerable Population Evacuation Planning for the Village of Chase.

Council received as information, a letter from the Council of Maple Ridge to Health Minister Adrian Dix requesting the dropping of COVID-19 restrictions on attendance at civic recreation facilities.

The meeting concluded at 6:04 p.m.
