Chase & District Fish & Game Update submitted by Helen Dalin, secretary Chase and District Fish and Game Club

The Chase and District Fish and Game had a busy February getting ready and putting on their annual Fish and Game Banquet on Saturday, February 2nd at the ALIB gym. There are many jobs involved with organization and set up for a banquet to be successful. The food, dancing and prizes were all great. Thank you to all members and supporters who came out to help and attend at this banquet. It is the main fundraiser for our club and your support is greatly appreciated. CDFGC is happy to announce that they were granted re-approval for their Range Certification by the R.C.M.P. This is a lengthy and involved process and a requirement in order to keep our gun range open. There is a huge concern for the fish in White Lake right now. Alf Davy from the White Lake Stewardship Group has contacted the CDFGC. Before 2014, White Lake was stocked with male/ female trout with a ratio 1 to 1. Since 2014 the fisheries have been stocking White Lake with female trout only. It now has changed the dynamics of trout in White Lake disrupting the balance in the lake. The fisheries are again going to stock White Lake with another 45,000 female trout this year. Fishermen at White Lake are seeing a large decline in male fish being caught. The White Lake Stewardship Group is asking if Chase Fish and Game Club could support their cause and try to save the original White Lake Trout before they are extinct. They have also asked the Salmon Arm and Kamloops Fish and Game clubs to come

and support them with a strategy plan as they meet with Fisheries. Watch for more information to follow. If you are interested in becoming a “Range Safety Officer” Ivan Hawley will be instructing a course with date and time in April to be announced. This is a good course for anyone to take who wants to use the range with friends and family. Please contact Ivan at 250-6792758. Trap and Skeet Club took a break from shooting in February due to the severe cold weather. It was just a little too chilly to be enjoyable. We will be back in business in March hopefully. The club now has a junior 20 gauge automatic shotgun for younger members to use if they don’t have a gun of their own. If you are interested in this sport please contact Helen or William Dalin at 250-679-8019. Our next meeting on Monday, March 18th, 2019 at 7:30 at the Creekside Center is going to be an important one! The Shuswap Trail Alliance will be at this meeting to present their overview on their plans for surrounding trails in our area. We are asking members to attend this meeting as your input would be very valuable. Hope to see most of you there! Other upcoming events you might like to mark on your calendars is the annual 3-D shoot up at the Gun Range on May 11th and 12th, 2019 and the annual CDFGC Fishing Derby on June 8th and 9th. This derby is open everyone – not just members and includes free camping at the range.

Chase Heat: "AND IN THE END…" by Scott Koch, Chase Heat

The HEAT heartache of a season has concluded it’s long and winding road of a season. I’ve got a feeling, that the 2019-20 season will be a vast improvement based on the number of players expressing a positive want to return. They have something to prove and as they mature their skills, strength and experience will greatly assist in the quest for success. It can’t be forgotten that this season’s squad started out as the youngest in the 20 team circuit. The final weekend and a duo of contests with opposite conclusions brought a 49 game season to an abrupt halt. Friday night the 22nd the HEAT travelled by road cannister to 100 Mile House to face the playoff bound WRANGLERS. The game had no impact on the standings and the resultant play was a little helter skelter mixed in with a lot of ob-la-di, ob-la-da. The hosts claimed a 7-1 victory and managed to fatten up the stat’s of the team’s stars. Early in the 3rd Evan Vinterlik lazered a sharp angle counter for the lone goal, from Hayden Wiebe and Gavin Mattey. While there were a few signs of life, overall it appeared that the HEAT couldn’t wait to get home. Contrast that effort with the bright lights of Saturday night the 23rd and the boys were back in town. Last game of the season and 408 family, friends and fans parked in the bleachers for one more time in support of their team, sons and the game they love. Another meaningless game versus the North Okanagan KNIGHTS who also were destined to miss the playoffs. Everyone expected a fun game of pond hockey, however what evolved was a high speed battle and an exhibition of clash, bash and dash. In hockey, happiness is a hot stick, and the battle field of twisted twigs did not disappoint. In the 1st Brandon Gremaud was a man on a mission as he opened scoring assisted by Breckin Erichuk and Evan Hughes. The game was then tied up before veteran 20 year old Tyler Collens provided superb penalty killing by scoring an unassisted shorthand beauty. A fine manner in which to end a junior hockey career. In the 2nd the “Goal Light Boys” led by Mattey popped a pair assisted on both occasions by Vinterlik and Erichuk. The KNIGHTS got a pair to stay within one. In the 3rd the HEAT got hot and their sticks smoldered with potential. Mr. Vinterlik and his toasty warm twig of the month of February scored assisted by Hughes. Brayden Haskell displayed his potential scoring ability assisted by Cam Watson, followed by Gremaud with his second from Kasey Jackson and Matthew Lee. Scoring concluded with the monster of the match Evan Hughes scoring

from rookie Marino Bordin and Sicamous EAGLES, the Kamloops wily veteran Cody Allen. Hughes STORM as well as the local Chase earned that tally with a game long HEAT. display of tenacity and hard work at Thanks are extended to the both ends of the ice. Community for supporting OUR At the outset of the game HEAT team! Without billet homes, Captain Cam Watson was presented volunteers, fans and sponsors the with the KIJHL Doug Birks Division little Village’s team wouldn’t exist.
