Chase and District Fish and Game Spring Update

Happy Spring everyone! There is lots of planning going on in the club at this time of year. We have some exciting projects we are working on!

One of our first projects is the club is setting up an outdoor axe throwing venue at our range. The plan is to get it set up and use it for special events for members and also as a revenue generator for our club. We would rent the axe throwing venue out for birthday parties, stagettes or family reunions as example. Once we get the venue built, we will order the throwing hatchets. The axe throwing would be under CDFGC supervision to make sure that firing line rules and protocols are followed. Safety First!

Axe throwing is popular with many ages, so we are quite excited about getting this set up. It will be good for our club and the community.

Notice of AGM Chase Citizens on Patrol

April 16th 2024, 7pm, at Sunshore Golfcourse.

Our other practice events continue to run. The Trap and Skeet club had a great turn out last month in March with 18 shooters in attendance. This practice club runs the second Sunday of the month at the range at 10 am. Guests are welcome with a $5 guest fee. Ammo is available for purchase. Depending on the games played – rounds of clays cost from $5 to $7 per round. Bring cash. If you do not have a PAL, you will be supervised by a CDFGC member with a PAL. Next practice will be April 14th, 2024, starting at 10am at the range. Coffee supplied, bring your own lunch. Pistol Club still continues. The Pistol Club practices are the 3rd Saturday of the month. So, in April, pistol practice will be Sat. April 20th starting at 10am at the CDFGC range, 724 Turtle Valley Road.

The club is still looking for a person who is willing to start up an archery club practice (a day, afternoon, or evening). Whatever fits their schedule. This could be as easy as one day a month, or one day a week. However much

they can or want to commit to. We have the targets, arrows, bows, and venue at the range, we just need someone to get the club started who knows archery and could teach if required. Perhaps an archer would like to start a friendly, non-competitive, practice group to meet up once a month. Please contact the CDFGC if you are interested in doing this.

Our other big project idea for 2024 is trying to get a dock and hopefully a vault toilet installed at Phillips Lake. This is a very needed project. People are defecating in the bushes and under the trees all around the boat launch area. Private landowners are upset with this use of their property along the shoreline as a giant toilet. Some people have even used the inside of their private pump houses as an outhouse, defecating on their pipes. There is an easement to the lake at the boat launch, but both sides of the easement are private property. There is talk of fencing off the private property areas which will reduce access and eliminate parking to the narrow dirt road. With up to 50 boats a day using the lake parking will be mayhem on the roadside.

Of course there is much red tape, forms, permissions. etc. concerning constructing docks and vault toilets on crown land. At this moment, this project is just in the beginning stages until CDFGC hears back from the TNRD on what we can do to move forward. Good news is that the Turtle Valley Association would like to be a partner with us on this project and the BCWF has also shown interest.

Updating and maintaining infrastructure at the range takes quite a bit of money in addition to donations of docks and toilets. So…. This means the BIG FALL 50/50 and CDFGC SILENT AUCTION will be taking place this fall again after a year’s hiatus. We are hoping the community will support the Fish and Game and their commitment to give back to the community. Our club’s aim is to protect, enhance, and promote the wise use of the environment for the benefit of present and future generations.

Fish and Game meetings are always the 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm, Creekside Senior Center, Shuswap Ave. Chase BC. All newcomers are welcome. Download membership forms off cdfgc.ca or go to Village U-Brew on Shuswap Ave. to buy a membership. Individual, Senior and Family memberships available.
