Letter to the Editor Dear Editor, In this village, predominantly inhabited by seniors, there may be criticism aired about younger folk walking and texting. However, when one attempts to retrieve one’s mail between 10:00 and noon at the local post office, one might encounter persons of the silver hair variety closely scrutinizing mail while walking. One fair day last week one observed one’s own husband doing so, which caused him to

walk beyond the unfamiliar place in which his vehicle was parked and around the corner to the familiar spot. This was unfortunate as he unknowingly trod directly on to a deposit left on the sidewalk by a senior’s little companion. Keep smiling, stay safe, and read your mail at home. Sincerely, Cathy Moore

When she was twenty, she had her oldest boy Ed and then her second boy Charlie when she was twenty-two, with her first husband Lance Staines. Judy and Lance divorced when the boys were young. Judy met her soul mate and true love Jack Giesbrecht in 1977. Jack and Judy were married August 24th, 1979 in Maple Ridge, BC and blended their families. Judy became a stepmom to three more children: Sheryl, Angie and Joe Giesbrecht. Judy and Jack moved their family to Chase, BC in 1983 and this is where they raised their family. Judy became awesome at horticulture and retail work. Judy had the joy of becoming a Grandma to twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In 2007/08 Judy and Jack moved to Williams Lake, BC for their retirement. They both worked part time. Judy was a greeter for Walmart for several years and Jack did maintenance at a local hotel. In 2013 Judy and Jack moved and settled in Gadsby, AB. They made themselves a beautiful home there. They planted several fruit trees and bushes that Judy loved. Judy continued to work at Walmart as a greeter in Stettler and Jack did maintenance at the Ramada. Judy was diagnosed and fought Cancer not once, but twice. RCMP REPORT submitted by Chase RCMP

Stolen Kayak - On May 1st, Chase RCMP responded to a report of a theft of a kayak from the 2900 block of Buckley Rd in Sorrento. The kayak had been secured to a dock at that location. The kayak is described as a 13 ft Coleman 130, grey and beige camo coloured with orange trim. The paddles and pedals were also taken. No suspects have been identified at this time. Incident - On May 1st, Chase RCMP were called to a campground in Magna Bay after receiving a report of a bear spray incident between campers at that location. Police arrived and determined that a group of campers were partying late into the night and were confronted by another camper. The original partiers confronted the concerned citizen and an argument ensued which led to one of the partiers being bear sprayed. In the end, cooler heads prevailed and police seized the bear spray. No charges being pursued. Domestic Assault - On May 2, 2020 Chase RCMP responded to a domestic assault on the side of the road, on Squilax Anglemont Rd in Scotch Creek. The female victim was bleeding from her face, and the male suspect had departed on foot into the woods. Police learned that the suspect had punched the Victim over 20 times, broke the rear view mirror in her vehicle, held broken glass to her neck, threatened to kill her numerous times, attempted to push her out of the moving vehicle, stole her wallet, would not allow her to leave, choked her, and drove her vehicle in an extremely dangerous manner. The male suspect was identified but not located. A warrant has been requested for the male. Stolen Truck - On May 3rd, 2020 Chase RCMP were requested by Kamloops RCMP to conduct patrols on Old Ferry Road, near Monte Creek, for a stolen pickup with On Star that was mapping in that area. The black 2017 Chevrolet Silverado BCLP # LV0582 was stolen from Kamloops. The vehicle was located on a dirt

road, off Old Ferry road, slightly inside Kamloops area. The vehicle was locked, ignition intact and no obvious damage. No suspects identified at this point and the investigation is ongoing. Prohibited Driving - On May 4th 2020 Chase RCMP observed a white Volkswagon Jetta driving on Brooke Drive in Chase and when police checked the license plate it was discovered that the license plate was invalid. Police stopped the vehicle and learned that the driver did not have a valid driver’s licence and was a prohibited driver. The 32 yr old male from Chase was arrested for Prohibited Driving and his vehicle was towed. He is to appear in court in October. Memorial Park Incident - On May 5, 2020 at 1034 PM, Chase RCMP attended what was reported to be a collision at Second Ave, and Cummings St, near Memorial Park in Chase. Upon police arrival, they located a vehicle with a jack stand under his front driver side tire, and transmission fluid leaking from the car. The driver wasn’t co-operative with police, but when it was pointed out that the driver had driven his vehicle through the Memorial Park playground and smashed into a culvert, the driver then provided information that he was approached by a male, who for no reason, shot him in the face with a pellet gun and he was trying to escape from him. The male was treated by EHS on scene and released. The driver was more concerned about fixing his tire and departing before police arrived than calling police about what had transpired. The investigation is continuing. Abandoned Car in Mill Park - On May 8, 2020, Chase RCMP received a report of an abandoned vehicle at Mill Park in Chase. Police attended the location and found a newer dark grey F150 pick up. Police determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Prince George. The vehicle had a broken steering column and the driveshaft had been removed.

The vehicle had not been at this location the day before and the suspects would have been working on the vehicle for some time in order to remove the driveshaft. Any who may have seen this vehicle being worked on or any information related to the vehicle are asked to call police. Excessive Speeding - On May 8, 2020, Chase RCMP were conducting patrols on Squilax Anglemont Rd. in an unmarked police vehicle travelling south bound in Scotch Creek area and noted a blue Ford Mustang travelling south bound. The vehicle was clocked on radar going 140 km/hr in the 80 km/hr zone. Erratic Driving - On May 12, 2020, Chase RCMP officer was following a suspected impaired driver travelling East bound on the Trans Canada Highway. The vehicle drove into the ditch and could not maintain its lane. Police located the vehicle and stopped it. Police spoke with the driver, a 21 yr old male from Mission, and could smell cannabis in the vehicle. Roadside sobriety tests were inconclusive. The driver was issued tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act for his erratic driving. Approximately a half hour later, Chase RCMP were called to a report of a single vehicle accident involving the same vehicle, where the vehicle had driven off into the ditch just east of Chase. Police determined the vehicle had suffered a tire blow out, likely caused by the initial trip into the ditch, causing the vehicle to go off road into the ditch. No one was injured and no further tickets issued. Impaired Driving - On May 15, 2020 Chase RCMP responded to a disturbance in Pritchard where a male had been driving a green dirt bike on River Rd and appeared to be impaired. Police located the male and conducted a sobriety test resulting in the male blowing a FAIL reading. The male was issued a 90 Day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and vehicle impounded. Stolen Items - On May 16, 2020 Chase RCMP were contacted by a Victim of a theft, who believed he was following the suspect vehicle on Kamloops Shuswap Rd, near Pritchard. The suspect attempted to avoid being followed and reversed into the Victim’s vehicle before fleeing. Police were able to locate the vehicle and did not locate the stolen items, however, noted the that driver was a prohibited driver and was driving a vehicle with no insurance. The 24 yr old male from Chase, was arrested for Prohibited Driving and issued a ticket for no insurance. The male is to appear in court in October.
