RCMP REPORT submitted by Chase RCMP
On April 21, Chase RCMP responded to a report of a Break and Enter to the Pedal Bros Cycle Shop, located on Okanagan Ave in Chase. Various items were stolen including a 3 wheeled pedal trike. Approximately 1 week later, police received information about the location of this bike and attended a residence on Hillside Ave in Chase and were able to recover the stolen trike and return it to the Cycle Shop. Police continue to investigate the recovery of the stolen bike and the link to the Break and Enter. On April 21, Chase RCMP received a report that a local resident had located a vehicle down a steep embankment approximately 2.5 km up 670 FSR in Scotch Creek. The vehicle was a green 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier was located at the bottom of a 40M+ steep embankment with the vehicle having severe damage. No one was located in the vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Kamloops on April 15/20. On April 21, 2020 Chase RCMP was advised of an MVI roll over at the 2390 Block of Hwy 97 in Monte Creek BC. It was reported that a single vehicle had gone off the road and a single female occupant was trapped in the vehicle with injuries. Police attended and located the vehicle, an orange 2004 Mazda 3, down a slight embankment. It appeared that the vehicle had been travelling South and had misjudged the sharp turn going off road left and down the embankment. No witnesses to the event. Fire Rescue was able to remove the 25 year old driver, from Kelowna, from the vehicle and transfer her to EHS who were able to transport her to Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital. The driver suffered a stiff neck and injuries to her face.

On April 20th, 2020 the Chase RCMP Detachment attended the 2100 block Evans Rd in Celista, in an attempt to locate a male on a warrant. Police noticed in the driveway a motorcycle with an incorrect plate attached. A check of the motorcycle showed it to be stolen out of Ridge Meadows. There was insufficient evidence to link the motorcycle to the residents of the property. Motorcycle was recovered and returned to it’s owner. On April 24th 2020, Chase RCMP were dispatched to a motorcycle accident on the Trans Canada Hwy near HWY 97 in Monte Creek. Police arrived on scene and spoke to the occupants who said they just came off the on ramp to the Trans Canada HWY when they hit loose gravel and lost control and hit the median and slid. Both were accessed by EHS and were transported to Kamloops Hospital to have their injuries treated. No charges pursued. On April 25, Chase RCMP approached a backyard painted black 2 door coupe type vehicle, Acura style with a lone Caucasian male seated behind the driver’s seat. The vehicle quickly accelerated onto Highway 1, narrowly missing a collision with a vehicle pulling in. Police activated the emergency equipment and also pulled out onto the highway heading westbound to close the distance with the evading vehicle. The vehicle had a big cloud of blue smoke behind as it took off fast westbound. Police then observed the vehicle pull out into oncoming traffic with moderate traffic present travelling at a high rate of speed (170 kms/hr). Kamloops RCMP were also notified of the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle but it also evaded them. Police were not able to locate the vehicle. Continued on page 4...

RCMP Report
Continued from page 4...
On April 25th, Chase RCMP received a report of a vehicle that had gone off Highway 1 going up Jade Mountain west bound, and had down over the embankment. A male was seen coming up the embankment and told a passer-by not to call police and started to leave the area. Police attended the accident scene and queried the vehicle which came back stolen out of Kelowna. Police made patrols for the male driver reported to have fled the scene and located him. The 30 yr old male was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property and Driving While Prohibited. The male was subsequently released on an Undertaking and is to appear in Kamloops court on July 9, 2020. On April 26, 2020 Chase RCMP received a report that a vehicle had rolled over in the a big dust cloud, just east of the 97 junction on Hwy 1. Vehicle was left in the middle of the Hwy with no one around. Police attended and observed the Plymouth Sundance had been travelling west bound on Hwy 1, appeared to possibly be going off road right, over corrected back to the road. Vehicle then proceed across the west bound lanes, into the grass median, which then cause the
vehicle to roll and then land on all four wheels in the east bound fast lane. Police called the registered owner of the vehicle who then advised that his vehicle was stolen. The driver was not located and no suspects identified at this time. On April 27th, 2020 at approximately 9:30 pm, Chase RCMP officer was driving past the Petro Can in Chase and noticed a GMC pickup, gassing up, with what appeared to be a part hanging off it. Police stopped for a closer look and recognized the male gassing up as Owen Scott BLAGDON who had an endorsed warrant for Fail to Comply, from Salmon Arm. BLAGDON was arrested and released on an Appearance Notice for an August court date. On April 28th 2020 at 8:11 am Chase RCMP were called to report a break and enter that had occurred to a detached garage in the 300 block of Larch St in Chase BC. The theft occurred between 10:00 and 11:00 pm on April 27th as the residents had heard the something going on but didn't think anything of it till morning. Items stolen included a Pink mountain bike, beer, cigarettes and a Samsung S7 phone.

Obituary
Robert Stewart Jr
I, Robert Stewart Jr, am writing my own obituary so as not to impose upon my family, who might not accurately report my life. Firstly, I would like to apologize to my children for not staying in touch, this last while. Illness is not something I’m very familiar with. Let’s just say, I’ve always done things ‘on my own terms’. I was born in Kamloops March 22, 1935 and I passed away in Kamloops, April 8, 2020 after a brief but swift illness. I lived in Pritchard for 81 years, moving into Kamloops to more sociable quarters in 2016. I have always shared stories of my somewhat scandalous behavior as a lad growing up in Pritchard, to those who would listen. From forcing a CPR train to stop abruptly, causing a lady passenger to break her arm, to setting firecrackers in Old Man Pritchards’ pipe, to causing the Pritchard School Teacher to almost lose her job-saved only by giving me “A’s”. Never one to shy from large social gatherings, I met Sami Haner at one of those events, and married her in 1958. Settling back at the ranch with our 3 young children, I eventually increased our ranch’s capacity - The 69 Cattle Company. Over time, with the help of my two boys, Kerry and Jay, we produced a variety of crops and Alfalfa. In the late 70’s with children grown and gone, I purchased a small section off the back of the ranch. My second wife and I especially enjoyed the company of my grandchildren, spending time with them at the river, playing silly tricks on each other and watching them in rodeos. My “Stewart Hay Sales” trucks were commonly seen on the roadways from the early 70’s through the 90’s. I was on good terms with the ranchers in the BC interior- those who paid on time at least. I was probably known as a pretty good “BSer” to most and was never one to shy away from legal skirmishes in protecting the ranch from municipal or corporate greed. With eventual diminishing business responsibilities, I enjoyed building many handcrafted wood items in my workshop, which I distributed to my children and other family members. I. I continued to be involved in the ranches management -whether needed or not- until I moved ‘into town’ (Kamloops) in 2016, to more socially stimulating surroundings. I was predeceased by my father Robert Stewart Sr, my mother Agnes Brechan Stewart (nee Campbell), my oldest brother Alistair Stewart and great granddaughter Macy. I am survived by my brother Campbell Stewart, my sister Helen along with my three children, Kerry Haner (Ruby), Jayson Stewart (Cathy), and Kris Stewart, 5 grandchildren (Jo-Anna and Clay Haner, and Cyle (Erica), Colby, and Jaylene Stewart), and 6 great grandchildren (Emma and Julia Haner, Declan, Logan and Ethan Haner, and Hazel Stewart), as well as many nieces and nephews, and my second wife. Not being comfortable at funerals myself, I want no funeral. I will however be present in spirit only, at a Celebration of Life that my children, will hold at a later date. Family friends and my coffee buddies will be informed of details.

Nature Study with Kids- Butterflies Did you know?
submitted by Ashton Sweetnam, Chase and Area Young Learners Society
•
Sunny days are best for butterfly watching.
•
Some individual butterflies live only a week, but the flight season for a species may be more than a month. The migrating monarch “super generation” may live for several months.
•
Butterfly season can run from as early as March (in B.C.) through October.
•
Females are slightly larger than males — because she carries the eggs!
•
Butterflies and hummingbirds share many nectar flowers, so efforts to lure one may attract both.
British Columbia has the largest diversity of butterflies in Canada, with 187 known species! Some of the butterflies that have been found in the Thompson-Okanagan Plateau ecoregion include the pale swallowtail, Stella’s orangetip, common wood nymph, and the alfalfa Sulphur. Creating and restoring butterfly habitat offsets what development, roadside mowing or wetland drainage have destroyed. (Gardening pesticide-free helps, too.)
adults — throughout the year.
Following are some ways to create butterfly habitat. 1. Host plants- Adults need a place to lay eggs where their caterpillars will forage. (Plant species that will get eaten and not just look pretty!) 2. Mud puddles- Some butterflies rarely visit flowers. They prefer mud, poop (a.k.a. “scat” or “dung”), sap and rotting fruit. 3. Overwintering habitat- Consider not raking leaves to provide a butterfly nursery! Most butterflies in Canada overwinter as caterpillars, others as pupae. A few species winter as adults, hibernating in hollow trees, under bark and firewood piles, or in garden shed cracks and crevices. Few spend winter as eggs.
