Environmental Packaging ....Continued from page 5
Such changes will take time and diligence at a corporate level—and will require consumers to ‘buy into’ greener packaging and consumption. Checking container markings, researching environmental improvements, talking to store managers, avoi d i ng single-use plastics, and utilizing non-plastic shopping bags will all play a part in making a difference to the environment in which we live. Aerosol cans made of valuable aluminum or steel can be infinitely recycled into new metal products. Used to store everything from food to paint to bathroom products (e.g. men’s shaving cream),
empty aerosol containers are recyclable at many depots. BC’s Recycling Council Hotline at 604.732.9253 or 1.800.667.4321 can provide information on what’s recyclable and where. As Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” So let’s shop with a view to the future and advise the manufacturer, the store, the supplier, the sales person, and the manager what we’d like to see in environmentally friendly packaging. Our kids and grandchildren will be glad we did.

Chase Fish & Game Update for November 2019 by Helen Dalin, secretary
The CDFGC has continued to work on updates to the pistol area of the gun range. In the last few weeks they have managed to get target stands raised at 5, 10 and 15m. Anyone choosing to use this part of the range will have to take their own targets and tacks or staples. Those items are not available at the range so shooters will need to pre-plan their targets before heading up to the range to shoot. It has been raining quite a bit lately so until sand or wood chips get laid down you will need to wear appropriate footwear to deal with the mud that is there from construction. Please remember that all this work is being done by a small group of volunteers so patience until it all gets completed. Without this group of volunteers there wouldn’t even be a range to use. The CDFGC is also working on trying to get a float ready for the Chase Country Christmas parade for December 6th. It is the 25th anniversary of Chase Country Christmas this year so the club is trying hard to support this community event. The biggest item the group is working on is their annual banquet. It is surprising how large a job this is to get ready! This is our only fundraising event of the year and we are asking the community and surrounding local businesses for their support for this event. It has been a long-standing event in this community for many, many years. This year the banquet will be on Feb 1st at the Chase Community Hall. It has been moved back to the hall so that people can walk home from the dance. It seems that there is not always a taxi available in Chase and no one wants to drink and drive. Watch for an Ad about the banquet in the local papers for where you can pick
up your tickets. CDFGC is trying to get the tickets out before Christmas so that they can be bought as Christmas presents for those people “who have everything”. Consider giving them an experience this year instead of an item. There is going to be a popular live band playing the event. Game meat will be served but if you don’t like game meat no problem. Roast beef and ham are also served along with the usual salads and ve ge t abl e s . There is food for everyone! C D F G C will also have a silent auction, raffles and 50/50 to help with the fundraising efforts which are so necessary to keep our club functioning and able to maintain upkeep to the range but also to support environmental projects in the area such as replacements or repairs of small wharves at small fishing lakes in the area and hopefully some outhouses at the far end of Skamana lake. Ivan Hawley, our CDFGC Range Safety Officer, is going to be teaching a PAL course on February 15/16th at the legion. The cost will be $130. Ivan will also be teaching a CORE course February 29, March 1st. Cost is $150. Ivan will be away for a few weeks so contact him in the New year to register for the courses. Ivan’s phone number is 250-679-2758.

NEIL MURDOCH SPLIT FOR THE HEAT submitted by Scott Koch
The Cole’s Notes version of the past weekend, it started with a close one in defeat and a scare on the way to a win. The Neil Murdoch Division can’t be taken for granted when the Doug Birks Division teams pay regular season visits. The HEAT travelled on Friday the 15th of November to picturesque Nelson to face the LEAFS. The City and
surrounding area were welcoming but the “Green Team” were not. After 40 minutes or in hockey parlance two periods, the hosts had pumped in two powerplay goals and an even strength tally. A deep ditch well shoveled one could say by an honest labourer. But this is hockey and the HEAT quite often this autumn have chosen to make third period comebacks for the brass ring. The “Beasty Boy” Evan Hughes scored on the man advantage from Gavin Mattey and Breckin Erichuk, it was a start. 12 minutes later the LEAFS countered with a shorthanded unassisted goal. “Captain Courage” Cam Watson scored on the powerplay from Mattey and Hayden Wiebe with a little more than 3 minutes left. Vince Bennedetto in net had been pulled to make it a 6 on 4 advantage and the gamble paid off in spades. With 25 seconds left “Whirling” Wiebe from Erichuk and Mattey got the visitors close 4-3. But the buzzer went and the LEAFS didn’t fall, the HEAT did. Saturday Night was alright for fighting and some tango tangles broke out in a contest versus the Castlegar REBELS. After
18 minutes of penalties the evening prior, Chase garnered 79 minutes to assist in changing their mojo to mayhem. The hosts scored in the 1st period, which included 4 misconducts by the strangers on the ice. After 1 period it was 1-0 hosts. In the 2nd wrestling exhibitions took to the stage as 6 more misconducts were issued by the men in stripes. However, Chase discovered several ways in which to put vulcanized rubber past the blue paint and into the foes net. Trevor Kennedy from Rhys Lepine tied the game up before Colton Nikiforuk from Corson Nordick had Chase gain the lead. Wiebe and his twisted twig then paired up to pot two, both on man advantages. The first from Erichuk and Kennedy and the second from Nikiforuk and Bennedetto. In the 3rd the volume got turned down very low with no scoring or dancing. A 4-1 victory with “Benny” Bennedetto stopping 29 of 30 shots faced to backstop his team to success. This coming weekend the Shuswap Two Team Title recommences with a contest in Sicamous versus the EAGLES on Friday Night. Saturday the 23rd the POSSE from Princeton visit the Art Holding Memorial Arena at 7:00 pm. Heat Beat: November is National Diabetes Month and the HEAT have two young men on the roster that play big roles who have Type 1 diabetes. Against the odds Trevor Kennedy and Vince Bennedetto face the adversity and challenges associated with diabetes. Camouflage Jersey - Poppy Fund Silent Auction continues till the 29th. Nab a natty camo jersey with the name and number of your favourite player and at the same time support our veterans in this month of Remembrance.
