Lions to Build Off Leash Dog Park
T
submitted by Chase Lions Club
he Chase Lions are very excited to announce our new
project. We are building an off leash dog park. It will be located behind the Mill Park ball diamond. There is a large flat grassy area there, and lots of parking back there away from the congestion of the RV park and boat launch. We are hoping to get started shortly if the
weather holds out a bit longer. This large area is approx 24,500 square feet with plenty of room for pets and their owners to play. We are hoping to get the fencing in this year still, then benches, trees, a dog water fountain, and maybe some doggie agility infrastructure in the spring. Stay tuned for further updates.

Sorry we have missed you the past couple of weeks folks! The flu bug has taken over our household and we are just trying to recoup! Where to start! We sent a team of our youth bowlers to Salmon Arm a couple of weekends ago – and they did not disappoint! The team consisted of Alyssa Becker, Logan Natrall, Haley Riley and Ryder Louis, along with their coach, Jeremy Merrill. The kids bowled amazing, and ended up placing 2nd in the prestigious Youth Games tournament! Way to go guys. This past weekend, we held our Annual Ladies Sip & Splurge event at the lanes – and was it ever a success. I would like to extend a big thank you to Chelaine Woodcock for assisting with organization of
the event. To Brandi Nakazawa for taking the lead on the yummy baked goods, and to Brandi’s daughter, Haylee, for running the door that evening! We had a total of 17 local vendors, sold a total of 57 tickets, and gave away $90.00 on the 50/50 draw! We are happy to announce that we were able to donate a total of $660.00 to the Chase Community Toy Store by running this event, and we are so grateful for all of the women who came out, did their part, and shopped til they dropped! This weekend, public bowling is in full swing from 1-5pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Get out of the cold, and come and throw a game or two! Until next time…

one hour to escape. The room will be open Friday and Saturday, and on Sundays with specific entry times. Two to six people can enter at a time, with tickets costing $15 per person. Profits go back into the community hall. People need to preregister for a time by calling 250-4631920.

Crispy Almonds
Ingredients: 2 cups of plain raw almonds ½ tablespoon sea salt Directions: Place almonds and salt in a quart jar. Fill to the top with filtered water, cover with the lid and swirl to dissolve the salt. Let the jar sit on the counter at least 7 hours, or overnight. Drain the almonds from the jar and place in a single layer on a dehydrator tray or cookie sheet. Allow approximately 1 cup of almonds per tray.
Dehydrate at approximately 95 degrees for 12-24 hours, testing every few hours after the 12 hour mark. To dry in the oven, set the oven temperature to no warmer than 150 degrees and dry for 12-24 hours, again testing every few hours past the 12 hour mark. Store the nuts in a container with a lid.

Interior Savings Renovation Celebration From sponsoring community events to helping members with all their banking, investment, borrowing, wealth management and insurance needs, Interior Savings has been an important part of the Chase and surrounding area for more than half a century. More than just business, the local credit union strives to engage themselves as a true community partner and every year supports many community events, initiatives and tries to give back to help the heart of their business and the people in the communities that they serve. “We are a member-owned credit union dedicated to understanding and meeting the financial and related needs of our members with quality products and services,” explains Chase Credit Union Branch Manager Kerri Lindsay. “A credit union offers the same services and competitive rates as chartered banks with the main difference that we are owned by our members and share the success of our branches with our
members and communities. Interior Savings Credit Union was founded in 1939 with just 20 members and has grown throughout the years. We still bank with some of the original members and have accounts here at the branch that were opened in 1949.” Here in Chase, Interior Savings has taken t h a t mission v e r y seriously. They have been a visible and helpful presence for 70 years and have resided in their current building at 814 Shuswap Road since 1949. After seventy successful years in business at this location, they decided that it was time for a major upgrade and have just finished a round of renovations geared towards improving their members banking experience. “We are here to stay and we are sporting a fresh new look,” continues Kerri. “Our renovations
have included expanding the main banking floor and we have four new offices to accommodate our financial representatives. This will allow us to give our members greater privacy when speaking with our representatives about their banking needs. We are inviting everybody to come down and join our renovation celebration, see the new offices and find out what we have to offer.” The Interior Savings Renovation Celebration is taking place at the Chase branch located at 814 Shuswap Avenue, Chase, BC on Friday, December 6th from 10:30 am until 3:30 pm. Mark your calendars and make a point to stop by the credit union and insurance office, enjoy a refreshment, see the new renovations and learn a little about your neighbourhood credit union and insurance services office. There will also be some fabulous prizes to be won including a $500 term deposit and a $500* insurance voucher. If you have ever wondered what joining a credit union could do for you or are just curious about what kind of services Interior Savings provides, this is the perfect opportunity to learn.

Council’s Procedure Bylaw Council gave three readings to its Procedure Bylaw to allow any two members of Council to phone in to a meeting without any prior notice, and to include a provision for “Notice of Motion”. The bylaw will be advertised before it comes back to Council for adoption. Off-Leash Dog Park – Alternative Location Suggestion Council received a letter from Peter Van Hoof suggesting an off leash dog park be constructed on the Rodeo Grounds on VLA Road – as these grounds are under lease to a private group, this location would not be suitable at this time – Council thanked Mr. Van Hoof for his input and for being such a consistent advocate of an off-leash dog park for Chase. Chase Community Legacy Tree and Chase Country Christmas Several volunteer groups and individuals and businesses have donated funds towards both the Community Legacy Tree and the Chase Country Christmas entertainment. Letters of thanks will be going out to all those who have donated. Water Rates Special Meeting
Water utility service not collecting enough revenue to cover costs submitted by Village of Chase
Council held a meeting on Monday, November 25, 2019 to discuss water and wastewater utility service rates. It was shown to Council and the members of the gallery that the wastewater utility service collects enough revenue to cover costs, however the water utility service is still not collecting enough revenue to cover the costs of that service. This has been discussed with Council and the public
before, and Council will be deliberating at their December 10, 2019 meeting in relation to water utility service rates. Comparison rates from other communities were also shared at the meeting, highlighting the fact that the water utility service rates in Chase are some of the lowest in the Province, despite the water system being of high quality, delivering very high quality water.

FINDING WAYSsubmitted TO byWIN IN NOVEMBER Scott Koch With two games left to play in the month of November, the Chase HEAT have garnered 13 of 18 available points. Six wins (4 on the road), 3 losses including one in double overtime at home. Not to shabby some would say, as only the November 5th game in 100 Mile House got out of reach for the local pucksters. Snapping at the heels of the Revelstoke GRIZZLIES the HEAT sit in 2nd spot in the Doug Birks Division with 30 points. With the tenders being stingy, the defenders being hard hitting and the shooters being sharp the boys have found multiple ways in which to be successful. The mind bending video sessions, the body bending yoga sessions, the cursed cross fit workouts, all added to daily hard working on ice practices have tuned up the lads as an interchangeable player force. This past weekend provided 4 valuable points but the opposition didn’t make it easy. On Friday Night at the east end of the Shuswap Lakes the arch rival Sicamous EAGLES welcomed their foes from the west. Former HEAT player Brayden Haskell got satisfaction scoring on his
former teammates, the only goal in the 1st period. The 2nd was all Chase, the recently very hot Hayden Wiebe from Evan Vinterlik and Marino Bordin tied the game up. Before the period ended veteran Brett Alexander scored the game winner aided by Corson Nordick and Jacob Biensch. No scoring in the final frame saw this match go in the books a 2-1 win for the HEAT. Dylan Barton in net denied 26 of 27 shots he faced to lead his team to success. Saturday night the 23rd at the Art Holding Memorial Arena the HEAT hosted the Princeton POSSE. In the 1st stanza both teams scored 3 times, the visitors once again scoring first. Brandon Gremaud took it upon his self to make it 1-1 on a short handed unassisted charge down the ice. That got the fans out of their seats, a hooting and a hollering. Less then 2 minutes later the POSSE retook the lead. Colton Nikiforuk couldn’t put up with that and put the biscuit in the basket from Jayden Russell and Evan Hughes. Not totally satisfied with that Nikiforuk did his own impression of Gremaud scoring shorthanded and unassisted to take the lead. That was short lived as Princeton tied the game before period’s end. In the 2nd there was no scoring but the on ice antics gained a higher level of rowdiness. In the 3rd the antics continued while the HEAT popped a pair of
goals. Cam Watson from his good friend Hughes placed the puck in the neighbour’s net prior to Hughes scoring from Wiebe and Nikiforuk. At the 60 minute mark the HEAT had earned a 5-3 victory. Vince Bennedetto stopped 29 of 32 in providing his team the ability to succeed. To end the month the locals welcome the Creston Valley THUNDERCATS on Friday the 29th, followed by a clash in 100 Mile House versus the WRANGLERS on Saturday. Heat Beat: At Friday Nights game the camoflage jerseys will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the local Legion Poppy Fund to assist our Veterans. A nice keepsake for donating to a very worthy cause, see you at the game! While Breckin Erichuck leads the team in scoring with 27 points he missed the pair of weekend games after having all four of his wisdom teeth extracted. Close behind in scoring Hughes (26), Gavin Mattey (26), Wiebe (22) and Nikiforuk (21).
