25th Anniversary of Chase Country Christmas
T
his year will mark the 25th Annual Chase Country Christmas event, which begins on Friday, December 6th, with activities running through to the next day. Chase Country Christmas is planned by a dedicated group of volunteers to bring holiday cheer to Chase. This year’s theme is “Snowflakes”. On Friday night, Shuswap Avenue will be closed to traffic uptown and the sidewalks will be lined with vendors
selling their wares to raise funds for their non profit groups. A parade, which travels from the arena along Shuswap Avenue starts at 5:30, will showcase many floats and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus! There will be some new activities this year, stay tuned for more information! You can now find Chase Country Christmas on Facebook. Contact Joanne at the Willows Health Food Store for more information on Chase Country Christmas 250-679-3189.

Final Push on Park includes Christmas Dance by Chase and District Skate Park Society
Since the grand opening of the Dr. Vagyi Memorial Skate Park in 2017, the skate park has seen many wheels zooming back and forth across it. It's been utilized so much that some may be unaware that there is are two more features that need to be constructed on the park for it to be totally complete. After the Kraft Heinz Project Play contest, and the huge push to get an appropriate plan
for Chase and working hard to bring the plan to fruition, the skate park committee stalled out on fundraising for the remaining features, which need to be completed so an engineer can sign off on the project. We are so excited to announce the Helping Hand group has offered to spearhead raising the final funds to bring the skate park to completion! More on page 9...

"Wait for Me Daddy" Helen Dalin: "Something very special to our family is the famous photo "Wait for me Daddy". The man directly behind the Daddy in the front is my Uncle Stan William Cairns who is the brother to James Drybrough Cairns my Dad. In New Westminister, where the original photo was taken
on October 1st 1940, a statue was created recreating the scene. My Uncle Stan never married and had no children. When the statue was unveiled my only living Aunt on that side, my dad's sister, was invited as an honored guest to the statue unveiling. My Uncle Stan drove tanks during the war."

Obituary Halbert, Robert Scott Scotty passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on October 29, 2019. Scotty grew up in Wakaw, SK, and was in the Navy from 1953-1963. He settled in Chase, BC, in 1964 to raise a family and remained there for five decades. Scotty was predeceased by his brother Bill and is survived by his sister Joyce, his daughters, Glynis and Meredith, his grandchildren, Taylor and Mackenzie, and his nieces, Diane and Brenda. Scotty’s sharp sense of humour and love of music and food was matched by an endless appreciation for nature and wildlife. A skilled craftsman who could build or fix anything needed, Scotty charted his own course through business ventures that made the province of BC as familiar to him as his own backyard. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at The Hamlets Westsyde and all of Dad’s special friends who filled his life with love and laughter.
Thank You,
Everyone, for the Condolence cards, phone calls, visits, Tributes, Hugs and Best Wishes sent my way since Carman’s passing recently. The Love, Respect and support from our friends and the community means so much to myself and the family. I think he would have been amazed not only with the Honors shown him but to realize just how many lives he touched. He is and will continue to be missed by so many. At times like this, we are reminded how Grateful we are to live in such a small caring community,, “Where everybody knows your name”. Again, Thank you all. With Love, Charlaine (Charlie) Lynch

HEAT TAKE SHOW ON THE ROAD submitted by Scott Koch
The KIJHL schedulers deemed it necessary to put the Chase HEAT Hockey Club on 5 overnight road trips this season. The 2nd of the 5 has just been completed with a trip to Grand Forks and Summerland. In two weeks time they visit Nelson and Castlegar, with the last trips in December and February. They are two game trips versus the old school three games in a weekend, hence the extra expense. To this point it has been worth it as the team has 3 wins out of 4 matchups. Friday night the 1st of November the bags full of twisted twigs stayed over in Grand Forks. The BORDER BRUINS were the hosts for the evening. With a minute gone in the 1st Gavin Mattey turned up the heat when he scored unassisted. 44 seconds later Marino Bordin let a slapper go from the point that bulged the twine, assisted by Rhys Lepine and Hayden Wiebe. Finishing off the 1st Brett Alexander potted his 1st of the season from Corson Nordick. In the 2nd the hosts scored, however Captain Cam Watson on the man advantage with 6 seconds left got that one back from Breckin Erichuk and Mattey. In the 3rd the “Beast of Burden” Evan Hughes popped a pair on either side of a border bear goal. The 1st 24 seconds in from Mattey and then the finale at 4:44 unassisted. Vince Benedetto once again backstopped his team to success repelling 42 of 44 scoring attempts in a 6-2 win. Saturday the 2nd in Summerland saw the STEAM playing host. In the 1st twenty minutes there was no scoring. In the 2nd veteran Colton Nikiforuk scored from Erichuk and Benedetto. Summerland got that back and the period ended 1-1. In the 3rd the flood gates opened with a trio of tallies from the twigs of the HEAT. Wiebe from Erichuk and Trevor Kennedy scored the game winning goal. Tyson Lampreau from Watson and Hughes got an assurance goal. Hughes game in and game out takes the team on his back and in doing so insures something good happens for the team. In this case he was first down the ice, fought for possession versus two STEAM defenders and set up the counter. Jayden Russell then got
his 1st of the season, an empty netter assisted by Mattey and Haden Nordick. Benedetto got an assist and denied 26 of 27 to backstop a 4-1 victory. Next up a Wednesday road trip to face the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS. Friday the 8th the HEAT face the Kelowna CHIEFS at the Art Holding Memorial Arena, followed by a face off versus the Revelstoke GRIZZLIES at the local Chaos Castle on Saturday night. Two contests worth viewing for the price of admission as the HEAT face two of the best! Heat Beat: Saturday, Breckin Erichuk played his 100th regular season game while leading the HEAT in scoring. In 2018-19 he was the leading scorer for Chase, currently he has 22 points. Five players on the HEAT are in the top 50 in the KIJHL, three of them in the top 20. Chase has won 4 games in a row and 8 out of the past 10 games. Their goals for are rising and goals against dropping, just what “Doctor” Fox ordered. While Hughes is the “Beast”, Erichuk is the “Set Up Man” and Alexander is the “Agitator” after getting into another tango tangle in Summerland. Chase remains in 2nd spot in the Doug Birks Division, just 3 points back of the Mountain Mecca Mad Bears. There is a new brother act on the HEAT, Jacob Biensch an 18 year old forward from Marsden Saskatchewan has been signed and joins his 20 year old defenceman brother Caleb. Come out and check things out, you won’t be disappointed! THIS IS
