The Senior Tree for Christmas! submitted by Brenda Patterson
There was snow on the hills a few days ago, and that means it is time to think about the wonderful Season ahead, and all the ways we can bring joy to friends and family! Our Chase Christmas Hamper Society i.e. the Food Bank, is happy to once again work with the lovely ladies at Eye Candy, and their Senior Tree to collect gifts for Seniors! We will also coordinate with Parkside Manor, which is currently a construction zone after their recent damage, to try and provide donated gifts for their residents, as well as those receiving Christmas Hampers. You might have noticed a little car carrying an Elf or two on Christmas Eve ,dropping off any extra gifts to seniors in the community, so that no gift is left unopened on Christmas morning! If you would like to donate a gift or two, you can put it under the Senior Tree at the Eye Candy store! We will make sure it is wrapped and delivered to a Senior for Christmas! We also need wrapping paper and ribbon, if you have any roll ends and extra supplies you could donate! The first Christmas Hamper Registration will be Monday, Nov 13 1:00-
3:00 PM at the Community Hall, The Toy Shop will be open also, for any parents registering for gifts for the little ones. Next Food Bank day is Monday, November 20 4:00-7:00 PM. Please register at 250-682-6155 for a pickup time. Wednesday, November 22 will be the Inclusive Cafe Christmas Lunch with turkey and all the trimmings!! 11:00-1:30. We are hoping for a big turnout from the Chase community! Everyone is welcome! If you would like to take out a meal, or several meals to share or deliver to people you know who are unable to join us, please phone ahead, to let us know , 250682-6155. Several days notice would be appreciated, so we can make sure to have lots of food for everyone! We are thankful for all the generous people who step up to help others where they can, donating their time, energy, and resources with no thought of getting anything in return, other than the satisfaction of knowing they made a difference. November 11 is Remembrance Day. Please take a moment at 11:00 AM to remember.
continued from page 1... Chase Country Christmas The Best Decorated contest will be a community voted on event, so you will have to register if you’d like your place to be judged. Once registered your place will show up on our community map with a penguin. Register yourself no later than November 30th by contacting the committee with your name, address and phone number. Email to chasecountrychristmas@gmail.com or send a message on facebook or instagam to @chasecountrychristmas. The maps and voting can be found at Eye Candy, Birch Street Flowers, A&W, Safety Mart Spacious 3bed/2ba home on 1.79 ac. above the TCH between Chase and Sorrento! and PharmaChoice. Voting starts on Dec. 1st and runs until Dec. 15th. The theme, which rotates through each year, is “traditional”. This cateogry is open to interpretation so bring your own personal flair and show “What’s your tradition?” Lets light up Chase! We hope to see everyone out enjoying this great annual event. The full schedule of activities will be in the November 24th issue of the Sunflower, watch for the special feature section.

Take action and book influenza and COVID-19 immunizations by Interior Health
IH-WIDE - Immunization is the best way to lower rates of respiratory infection, such as influenza and COVID-19. Booking your appointment for both vaccines is easier than ever this year. Invitations to book vaccine appointments are sent from the provincial Get Vaccinated system once you are eligible. These vaccines are free of charge and available at most pharmacies as well as some public health clinics and primary care providers. The influenza vaccine is available to everyone six months and older annually. The recently updated COVID-19 vaccine can be provided at the same time. Those over six months of age are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine when it has been six months since their last COVID-19 vaccine.
Immunization is especially important for those at greatest risk from infection including children under five years of age, adults 65 years and older, pregnant people and those with some chronic conditions. If you have not yet registered to receive invitations via SMS (text) or email, visit Get Vaccinated BC to register online. Registering online is the fastest option, but you can also register by phone (1833-838-2323) or in person at a Service BC office. Children under nine years of age receiving their first-ever influenza vaccine dose will need a second dose after four weeks. Those who have had it in previous years only require a single dose. a profound impact, affecting homes, businesses, and the lives of countless individuals and families. In response to this crisis, Shuswap Community Foundation established the Emergency Response Fund (ERF) to provide support for the recovery and rebuilding of affected communities. The local Rotary Clubs’ extraordinary donation will serve as a matching fund, doubling the impact of individual contributions made to the Emergency Response Fund. This means that for every dollar donated by community members, the Rotary Clubs will match it, effectively doubling the resources available to support relief and recovery efforts in the North Shuswap. “This generous donation from the four local Rotary Clubs is a testament to the remarkable spirit of community and unity that defines the Shuswap region,” said Roger Parenteau, Executive Director at Shuswap Community Foundation. “It will significantly bolster our efforts to aid those affected by the wildfires, helping them rebuild their lives and businesses.” Our local Rotary clubs have long been champions of local causes and initiatives, and their commitment to assisting in times of crisis is both admirable and impactful. Shuswap Community Foundation would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Rotary clubs for their substantial contribution, as well as to the community members who have already contributed to the Emergency Response Fund. Your support is vital in helping the North Shuswap communities on their path to recovery. Individuals and organizations interested in contributing to the Emergency Response Fund are encouraged to visit Shuswap Community Foundation’s website shuswapfoundation. ca for more information or donate directly to the Fund at any SASCU location. Donate today to take advantage of this incredible matching opportunity.

In Flanders Fields BY JOHN MCCRAE
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
